Wasteland has a decent selection of name brand items and is clearly curated based on current trends. However, it is not the spot if you're looking for traditional thrift store prices. I was so excited to go to wasteland since I am visiting the Bay Area and it's always my go to spot. Unfortunately I only lasted about 1 minute in there because the music was SO LOUD. Blasting. Want to give context that I am a bright-eyed and bushy tailed 26 year old who worked in nightclubs for 3 years- I know loud music and can tolerate. But to try shopping in blaring music was a no-go for me. Also want to mention that having a store with noise that loud also effectively excludes neurodivergent people where constant loud sound is overstimulating. Maybe turn it down a bit y'all. read more

This store is def worth stopping in. You may get lucky as with any thrift/resale store. I think that they definitely have a lot of items. So many of everything and various sizes which was great. My cons for this location and the reason for the rating is mainly the price to quality ratio. While there are many beautiful designer pieces, I noticed that many were extremely damaged. There's no way I'm going to pay $150 for a dress with holes, snags, and/or rips $300 or a pair of shoes with huge noticeable black scuffs. I know the allure is designer but if it's not in good condition why put it out or not account for that in the price. Lastly, I asked about a For Love and Lemons gown today and was told it wasn't for sale! Lol what store would do that?! It's a store for buying not a museum so if you're enticing ppl to come in to buy with items in the display window they should be for sale since that may be the reason someone stopped in! I wouldn't really call this a "thrift" store. It's more of an upscale consignment boutique. Expect to pay retail prices. I found the style of the clothing here pretty basic and a little too trendy. Lots of uninspiring clothes that are made by a high-end designer with a high price tag. I find that if thrift stores are charging high prices, I want to see a well-curated collection of interesting clothes that make me want to spend a couple hundred dollars! Or, on the other end of the spectrum, I'm willing to go to Goodwill and sift through racks to find a gem at a steal of a price. We came here during our tourist visit to Haight. Didn't really pre-read any of the reviews. they have a wide range of designer and many things vintage. My boyfriend bought a pair of balenciaga track sneakers for 695 which retail at 890 only to find out they weren't authentic a week later. If you care about authenticity this may not be the best place for you to shop. They do have a huge store but beware of buying luxury goods at prices near retail and thinking your getting a steal only to find out you've basically been scammed. After reading several reviews this seems to be a repeating issue. Unfortunate since they claim to be a designer resale shop. Workers are friendly, not very helpful as they claim authenticity of products falsely- but can't really blame them for that completely. Shop at your own risk. read more

Everything was so inflated that I very soon decided to just treat is a trendy museum. I did absolutely fall in love with this Jeremy Scott gold winged leather jacket with fringe though. SO IN LOVE. I had never seen something so glorious and terrible, and I was ready to spend a stupid amount to have it....but not $500. Ouch. Wasteland is a shop for the person who is seeking quality vintage clothing and is willing to pay a price for it. Meaning, they have great stuff but you are not going to get it cheap like say at a thrift store. What Wasteland does offer is that you do not have to go on a quest to find that specific item of vintage clothing that you are looking for. You just go inside, it is all very well organized, and you go right to the appropriate section and possibly find what you are looking for. I have been shopping at this Wasteland ever since it opened. I will say that the overall market and availability of vintage clothing has changed a lot since this shop first opened. Now, there is a lot more competition and a much greater possibility of you finding great vintage clothing at other local shops that, in many cases, charge less for what they are offering. This is not a criticism, this is simply a fact. This being said, Wasteland continues to offer great items for the seeker of vintage clothing and/or shoes. Wasteland is located on Haight Street so it is easy to find. It is housed in a large space so the overall atmosphere is non-claustrophobic. This is not the case with some of the other vintage shops in the area that stuff way too much into way too small of a space -- combine that with a lot of customers and it can become very crowded. It is never like that at Wasteland. Overall, this is a good shop. If you are seeking vintage you should check this place out. read more

Wasteland is a really trendy place, and I must admit that I really like most of the clothes they carry. My problem lies soli with the price. Being that it is a vintage store, the price point should be pretty low. Even if it is a trendier vintage shop, the price point should at least be affordable right?! Everything in wasteland is about triple the price it should be. T-shirts for 30 bucks used, pants for 60, and jackets for 100+. These are Nordstrom prices brand new... I moved to SF in January of last year from LA. Wasteland quickly became my favorite place to thrift. Until I stepped onto a needle from a magnet in the fitting room. This wasn't a big deal other than the risk of infection and lack of empathy from the store front clerk. I told her that blood was pooling in my tennis shoes... the clerk said "it wasn't their problem" -- I had to request a first aid kit. Watch your feet when you enter the fitting room! read more

This location was one of the most unique places I've seen. The prices of the clothes were stupid though. The clothes being sold were by regular people that get a small commission of their clothes so they Jack up the price so they get a decent bit of money. There was normal wrangler jeans for 150 FREAKING dollars! It's a unique store to pop in but it's not the store to buy used clothes from. read more

Take the time to browse. And more importantly - make sure to enjoy it. If you just rush in and out - you're seriously missing out. 2.) If you see something you like - act fast and buy it. It probably won't be there next time if you don't. 3.) Take advantage of the photo-booth at the back of the store (I still have yet to do so) 4.) If something looks too small, and you're having trouble getting it over your head - just forget about it. I've learned the hard way that it won't magically get any bigger . read more

I dropped by Wasteland to try and find a costume and though I didn't find anything, it's still a pretty neat store with a ton of vintage styles. For halloween they had some great wigs for 20 bucks and they have testers so you can check yourself out first. Apparently they don't carry these after halloween... more's the pity. Photobooth in the corner which may or may not let you wear their clothes while in it (I'm a little unclear about the rules). However one of the vintage dresses I tried on smelled a certain way. The way I remember doctor scrubs' smelling in the early 90's. A sort of chemical/ deathness. Not good. Their service is also at a snail pace with the checker who was working looking bordering on keeling over from starvation. I'll give it 3 stars and call it a day. read more

RIPOFF Here's an idea: Buy a bunch of cheap T-shirts from thrift stores, garage sales, remainder sales, etc., put them through the wash a bunch of times to make them look older and raggedier, multiply their original (new) price by several times, and -- voila! If you look carefully, Wasteland has five or six pairs of the same shoes that they are trying to pass off as unique or special. Some of the other vintage shops along this strip have much more genuine merchandise, at way better prices. read more

My boyfriend hates this place, because we will be stuck here FOR. EVER. They have THE greatest selections. Alot of the pieces I've bought here have been major staples/investments to my wardrobe. Sometimes (keyword: SOMETIMES) prices seem like they can get out of hand, but if you really think about it... $150 for last season's Kate Spade zebra bag sounds much better than the msrp. $28 bones for a Moda International silk cocktail dress that looks worth more than what you paid for? I'll take it. I'll take it all! "So...can I see that Marc Jacobs brooch over there? No, over there...to the right... Can I see that one too? And that one? How much is that Alex & Chloe "Coco is dead" necklace? Oh, nevermind..." The customer service here is pretty distant, but I get great inspiration from the employee outfits. So they think they're better than you. Better at dressing up is more like it. Shit, I think I got made fun of for not knowing my drug paraphernalia when I asked what a feather clip on display was. I'll gladly take the abuse, in exchange for some banging outfits that nobody else in the world has. They're just gonna have to deal with taking things out of the glass display until I run out of things to look at. If you are a huge fan of vintage photobooths, they've got one all the way in the back near the shoe area. Remember, it's not a fitting room or a waiting area. Waiting area is near the front, fitting rooms to the right of the register. Also, be patient, those things take forever to develop. Expect a 10-15 minute wait to complain to the 800 number. And... on your way out, pick up a free copy of Vice or Paper magazine. They have a ton of designer duds. Alot of the delicate or valuable shoes/ accessories are the ones on the top shelf in front of the glass displays. Location in the store may vary (because they move things around alot), but they've also have a designer showcase, where the items are new and have more than one size available. Items feautured aren't necessarily high end, sometimes it's a local designer or items from brands like Scrapbook, Drifter, etc. This area I find to be particularly pricey, and not justified. This place is incredible. Come prepared with alot of time on your hands (and an arm prepped to do major rack flipping), and only bring company willing to do the same. Otherwise send them on their way to Kid Robot or something. They do holds til the end of the day, and they also buy clothing from you. read more

This is definitely not the best vintage store around, but sometimes you find little gems here. I would recommend "Held Over" before this place. Additionally, this place always smells kind of funny....at least when I am there (which may mean that I just kind of smell funny...). This is a good place for t-shirts and jackets, I'd say. The selections here seem more higher end than Crossroads Trading Co. & Buffalo Trading Co. but that naturally means the prices are also higher. That's not necessarily a bad thing but I'm into bargains so I'm less incline to pay $30 for a pair of used corduroy Levi pants when I can score it for about $10 less elsewhere. Wasteland is an interesting shop where they have gently used designer clothing, as well as vintage clothing as well. There are a lot of good labels here like Acne, Joie, Marc by Marc Jacobs etc. but as with all second hand stores you gotta come back frequently since inventory can vary. I would say given the original prices of these brands the prices here are reasonable although not dirt cheap (this isn't goodwill)! There were some gorgeous dresses and shorts but some of the jackets were a bit too trendy for me. read more

TL;DR - Super rude staff and questionable items. I walked in to check out what they had and I was surprised to see so many "designers." Why the quotation marks? The pricing seemed odd for the pieces that were there. I've worked luxury retail and even at resale, some of the pieces are priced too low and makes me question the authenticity of the items. I would have asked to see the goyard, but the rude staff deterred me from wanting any interaction with them. *side note, resale on designer pieces actually requires a ton of training and product knowledge, the "buyers" here just seemed to glance at the label and throw it in a pile. So for items that are commonly faked (ie LV and Chanel) I would HIGHLY discourage from buying here since you could be paying a ton for a fake bag that Wasteland says is legit. read more

The clothes here are super trendy! All in great condition! Very one of a kind. So much so, that I found this beautiful yellow pleather jacket in their shop window that made me stop dead in my tracks. I instantly wanted to try it on! Ran inside with excitement, asked one of the cashiers if I could try it on, only to be completely shut down.. he said that it was a display piece, and that it wouldn't be out on the floor for a few months. He said there was absolutely no way of me purchasing it sooner, and zero way to contact me when the jacket would hit the floor lol what? I thought the whole point of window displays was to bring in clientele & sell merch.. he didn't even try to work with me, or show me any other similar styles. Nothing. Being shut down like that makes me never want to talk to those clerks. As much as I loved that jacket, and the store itself, I now have no reason to go back if that's their protocol.
