Then as they were closing it up, had to remind them of the hots. I will add that I was the obit customer in the market, so we can't blame it on the overwhelming lunch crowd. I ordered the small, traditional Italian sub. I ordered mine with easy oil/vinegar, tomatoes, hots, lettuce, and mayo. I'm not a fan of raw onions whatsoever. The sub arrived perfectly, fresh not soggy. The sub roll is super soft, yet somehow holds up to the vegetables and condiments! The bread is freshly baked and some of the best bread I've had from a sub spot! The sub was piled generously, yet sliced perfectly thin for a more "airy" bite. This is exactly how I like my sandwich. I am not a fan where it's like biting into a giant, thick slab of meat. Here, the meat is sliced thin and arranged in such a way that every bite is "airy". True sub fabs will know exactly what this means. The closest example to this is the chain, Jersey Mikes. The meats were sliced thin. Arranged perfectly on that pillow-soft sub roll. Veggies were great, fresh and crisp. Juicy tomatoes. Delicious hots that truly make the sandwich! This is our new go-to for subs in Waltham. The basil was so savory and fresh; the roasted peppers were just barely caramelized; the onion wasn't too overpowering. The crust is a little crispy on the edges, chewy, and dry and puffy in some parts. The large pizza is pretty big so I think it's a decent value. I have also had this scampi pizza and another kind, which were both pretty good, but the Vegeterania is one of my favorites. Pick up and check out were super smooth and easy. Parking extremely convenient. I also love the bakery next door, which had absolutely delicious ricotta coconut ball things (gluten free, smooth, creamy, not too sweet or cloying). I definitely recommend trying out the food here.

They really are fried to perfection. Frituras de Maiz: (10/10): Wow, these fritters are also amazing. They come with such a rich sauce. The fritters are exploding with flavor. Cazuela de Coliflor Asada (9/10): Insanely good dish. The cauliflower has perfect texture, complemented by the pistachios. The sauce is SO good. The cauliflower soaks it up so well. Chicharrones (9/10): Melt in your mouth pork belly. The pork skin crust was perfect. The sauces really make most of the dishes here. This dish is no different - I loved the sauce. Ropa Vieja (9/10): Perfectly slow cooked meat. One thing that really stood out to me was actually the white rice. The rice was VERY high quality, and I appreciated it so much. It's rare to come by rice this good. It had the perfect texture, chew, and fragrance. Ropa Vieja de Hongos (9/10): Pretty much the same as Ropa Vieja above. The mushrooms are delicious, and the dish is just as good whether your order the mushroom or steak version. Empanada del Carne (9/10): Oh man, the crusts are so good. This is pretty on par with the ones I just had in Puerto Rico. Chuletas de Cordero (8/10): The seasoning is heavenly. I was licking the lamb chops clean. Croquetas (8/10): Very solid croquetas.
