Knowing clearly Jacksons was not a Indian Bistro. It was a real stretch but one I was willing to take. I was almost disappointed by receiving my meal with a 1/4 leg placed on top of "jasmine' rice with marsala on top with a slight drizzle of yogurt. Not Raita,the rice was almost dry.. Enter Javier..our most amazing wonderful server. He totally was one of the most pleasant servers we have had in a LONG TIME Honestly Javier is the 4th star on this review review. This place is located in Harbour Island with water views. My family and I rented out the wine room for a private party. There were about 20 of us. A bread basket was placed on the table but there wasn't enough for each person at the table so they had to get more. The salad was basic but the balsamic vinaigrette was good. I had the filet mignon for my entree which hit the temperature of medium rare I wanted but overall some pieces were tough because it seemed like the silver skin was not cut off. The crème brulee was tasty and had real vanilla bean. Also, as we were in the wine room enjoying our private event, the staff were taking bottles of wine out from the wine wall in this room and passing it thru to another staff member. This room is not completely private as one wall is about 6 ft high. As they were placing wine bottles on the ledge between the hallway and wine room, one bottle fell and hit my nephews arm. I'm not sure why they were doing this with a private event going on. They could easily went thru the door. To top it off, they were not apologetic about this incident either. The crab tasted like it was Imitation crab meat, not real. For one of the appetizers we ordered grouper bites and they were very greasy. I sent them back along with my main meal. I was very disappointed management did not come to our table and asked why we had to return our meal. There was actually no presence of management whatsoever to come to the table and ask how you're doing. Jackson's seems to draw a pretty good crowd for Happy Hour. I wish Happy hour was a bit longer because service seemed a bit slow. The staff were great. The bartenders were great to talk too. The meatballs were OK. They were super salty. The kimchi fried rice with crab was awesome. I can have that anytime with any meal. The old fashion was on par. The outside area is really cute - it can be closed in when it rains and opened up when pretty out. There is a bar outside that has TVs and looked fun. We were there for a work trip and they were able to accommodate 6 of us with with no trouble. The drinks were delicious. This is not the first time I've been to Jackson's, and a lot has changed over the years. Ambiance does not feel as classy without the white tablecloths. My wife received a wine glass with lipstick stains, while it was corrected promptly, it's not something I expect from a place like this. Our server was attentive and kept our drinks filled. The highlight of the meal was the hamachi crudo. Thinly sliced fish with a red jalapeno and ponzu was tender and a delicious bite! Sea bass was also cooked well and buttery. They were out of the brussell sprouts so the sea bass came with baby bok choy instead. This was a fine substitution, but it would have been nice to know that ahead of time. Let me be honest: after seeing the 3.5-star average on Yelp, I went to Jackson's kicking, screaming, and mentally drafting my escape plan. But it was the closest restaurant to the convention center, and my legs were already threatening a mutiny, so off we went. And now? I owe Jackson's a formal apology. The menu is basically the Cheesecake Factory's slimmer, better-looking cousin: burgers, sushi, seafood, you name it. No one can complain here (and trust me, I tried). I started with the salmon nigiri, expecting "3.5-star energy." What I got was something straight out of a high-end Japanese restaurant. Fresh, perfectly sliced, melt-in-your-mouth good. Even the wasabi had its act together--just the right kick without igniting my sinuses. My colleague ordered the spicy salmon roll, and after one bite declared it "the best he's ever had." This is a man who eats sushi the way some people drink coffee: relentlessly and with standards. For our main, we both had the blackened grouper salad, which was tender, flaky, and seasoned like the chef has a vendetta against bland food. Perfection on a plate. It's the kind of dish that makes you forget you came in expecting disappointment. Service? Christian, our server, was attentive, friendly, and on the ball. The manager swung by, also personable, which is rare--most managers only appear when something is on fire or someone is loudly mispronouncing "gnocchi." I'm giving Jackson's five stars, every one of them earned. Even though the food itself was good, this was not a good experience overall. This was my third Galentine's outing with friends, and I wanted to try a new spot--what a mistake. We arrived at noon, were seated promptly, and got our drinks quickly. Once we placed our food order, everything went downhill. We waited an hour and a half for our meals. One of the orders was a Cuban sandwich, which should not have taken that long. Our server was nice and tried to be accommodating, but the constant excuses became frustrating. It wasn't even very busy, so it was hard to understand why every apology was followed by "just a few more minutes" that turned into much more. We were extremely hungry, and if another friend hadn't been on the way, I would have suggested we leave. A manager did come out to speak with us, which was appreciated. However, when our last friend arrived and ordered calamari--something we assumed would be quick--that also turned into a fiasco. The calamari arrived fairly promptly, but when she asked the food runner for plates, things got messy. The runner told the server, who then seemed confused. The kitchen ticket was still in the dish (which wasn't an issue), but instead of simply bringing plates, the entire dish was taken away. Another manager came out as if my friend had complained, but she clarified that she only wanted plates and said nevermind about the dish. She ultimately accepted the calamari, and they brought it, brought plates and did try to accommodate us, but by then the damage was done. To top it off, the two-hour parking validation was useless since we spent about two and a half hours there, and they couldn't extend it. We dined at 5:30 just in time to see a beautiful sunset. Our waiter was very attentive and took great care of us. We started out with the spicy tuna tartar and the Harbour Island calamari appetizers - both were a big hit. Three of us had the Kimchi Chilean Sea Bass served with soy glazed Brussels sprouts while the other three chose the Grouper and Jumbo Lump Crab as our meals. This review is mainly for myself so I don't make the same mistake twice. My husband and I walked from Armature Works to here. It's about a 2 mile walk so when it's not blazing hot in Tampa, it's a quite beautiful walk along the water. This restaurant is one of the pinch me I live where people vacation spots. Sitting outside looking out at the boats/water is a very enjoyable experience. They have an outdoor bar and it's seat yourself at the bar and high tops. We grabbed a high top. I ordered the Chai me maybe, thinking it would be like a chai version of an espresso martini (like the one at m.bird that I love). It is not. Future Christina, do not order this again. However, for everyone else, this drink was not sweet at all. It really took me by surprise. It had a very strong chai flavor, which I liked. The bartender was super attentive though so he came over to ask what I thought. I told him I thought it would be sweeter, so he asked what type of sweetener I'd like added. We ended up on brown sugar so he took it back and added some. It tasted so much better after that. I really appreciate the service and that he did that. I don't know if I would have said anything if he didn't come and ask, so I appreciate him checking in. My husband had the old fashioned and liked it. It tasted like a standard old fashioned. We had beautiful weather and really couldn't ask for a better ambience than that. As far as service, our waiter was super nice but our food between each course did take a little while. I got a crab cake and truffle fries for my entree. We enjoyed a Sunday lunch to celebrate a family dinner here last weekend. We chose to eat at a table outside on the patio, which had nice views of the harbor. It isn't super obvious, but there is a parking ramp under the hotel as you turn in, so if you go underground to that ramp, bring your ticket and the restaurant will validate your parking for the first two hours (you pay five dollars an hour for each hour after that). Daniel was our server and he was casual and very chatty, mostly attentive, except neglected to fill our water glasses for the second half of our meal. Our table had sushi and some entrees. We tried the volcano roll and the crazy salmon roll, and both of them were plated, beautifully and delicious. The server recommended the chicken and waffles which my son enjoyed. I had the Asian Chopped Ahi salad and I cannot stop thinking about it. I would eat that salad at least once a week if I lived in Tampa. Unfortunately, the food did not meet expectations this time. The risotto was undercooked and lacked the creamy texture you'd expect. The shrimp and lobster were overcooked, which made the dish even more disappointing overall. The clams were the only part of the meal that were prepared well. Yanni did inform the manager that our meal wasn't to our liking. While the manager did come over and apologize, the resolution fell short. They offered to remake the dish, which we appreciated, but we were on a time constraint and unable to wait for another meal. The item also was not removed from our bill, which was disappointing given the circumstances. In my opinion, meals should come out of the kitchen prepared correctly the first time. Most guests don't feel comfortable sending food back, so that first impression really matters. We may return in the future based on our past experiences, but this visit definitely missed the mark. read more
