They sent out a technician by the name of Marcus Booker, who was very professional and who quickly identified the problem as simply needing replacement of the gas control which cost me $679.00. He did not try to upsell me to a new water heater at a cost of about $2400, indicating the the existing water heater was relatively new and in good shape. Yesterday, I called and told your staff that my hot water heater wasn't working, and I told them what the error light/message was, and your staff was helpful in explaining how to get the parts under my warranty. So I made the call and I got the parts and then I set up an appointment. I was told that the labor would be $300 - $500. When the technician arrived, he told me it would cost $500--before even looking at anything. So I guess the price was always going to be $500--but your company was playing a game with me. Then he told me the price would actually be $679 because the $179 service call was added on to the $500. I've NEVER had a repair company that didn't apply the service call fee to the total. In other words, at the most, I expected your company to charge me $500. When I called to ask questions at the Riverside office, I quickly realized that the manager was not about to consider my perspective or an adjustment to the bill. He said it costs the company to send a truck out, diagnose the problem, and get the parts, and then there's labor on top of that. But your company didn't diagnose the problem (the system told us the problem), and your company didn't get the parts, I did. So, there was a 5 minute initial phone call and 45 minutes of labor, and you charged me $679. I am really disappointed and wouldn't recommend Water Heaters Only to anyone. read more

I cannot under any circumstances recommend this company. I called them to replace a 16 year old 50 gallon Rheem water heater. After quoting me $2K to replace with a 50 gallon Bradford White gas heater, the technician said my existing tank was a little too tall and a short, 50 gallon tank would be better. He then said the price of that tank would be another $900, so now, $2900 for the installation. The prices of the tall and short tanks is EXACTLY THE SAME! Yet this crook was up charging me for no reason other than, "buyer beware." He also said my sixteen year old ball valves were in decent shape and didn't require replacement. Absolutely ridiculous.I called their HQ in Grass Valley, CA and they couldn't understand why the quote had changed, but I cancelled the installation anyway. I called another company. They quoted me $1950 all in for the same short, 50 gallon Bradford White tank, and they replaced every ball valve. Imagine that? An honest company. My recommendation? Find another company. read more

Brad came to our home after a major SNAFU with American Home Shield. AHSs plumber (?) (PLYMWR) would install one, a week later. Their excuse was they got the Purchase Order Friday noon and their supplier closes over the weekend! Our heater I shut off the water heater 11/17 due to leaking. AHS after calling numerous calls finally said they'd reimburse me for the install if I found a suitable plumber. I DID, not some 1star plumber! I called Water Heaters Only. The 40-gallon water heater that came with our home was installed 20 years ago in 1998 (which is surprising since Google says average lifespan is 8 to 12 years). We found WATER HEATERS ONLY on Yelp. They were available the next day, arrived On Time (in fact a little early), and were friendly and professional. They installed a 50-gallon Bradford White to proper code (which they said meant raising it 18 inches off the ground since its in a garage). Price for parts and labor was $1,654. This included a $50 discount for a YELP coupon. Only reason I'm giving them 4 stars is because my handyman friends on Facebook think it was overpriced, but I have no idea if that price is reasonable as I didn't call anyone else for quotes beforehand. Overall it was a positive experience using Water Heaters Only. Update: I sent an email to the company to inquire about the price I was charged and they called me within 10 minutes and explained again how that price was reached. read more

I called a number of places and received estimates from several plumbers to install a new water heater. It was not an emergency job. My current water heater was 18 years old so a number of code upgrades were required. OC Water Heaters had a very reasonable estimate and every code upgrade was explained. This company is an absolute joke. I call on a Saturday and schedule an appointment for 1:00 pm on Sunday. Very professional response, although I had to repeat my email and phone number several times. I was told to expect a call 30 mins before the appointment for an eta. At 12:50 on Sunday, I call the office to tell them I had not heard a thing. I was told technician was stuck on another job in Riverside but I would get a call back in 10 mins. 2 hrs later, still nothing. I call the office and was now told the technician just got to his first job and I would be waiting a few more hours. I basically wasted an afternoon waiting for these inept people. I called around 9:20 on a Sunday morning and by 3 PM installation of a new, high quality, water heater was complete! The technician, Ron Gautreau, could not have been nicer or more professional. He actually encouraged me to ask questions about any part of the installation. There wasn't any pressure to replace my existing unit, although the advantages of doing so were explained. I would probably give these guys a 4.5 if it were possible. They did a fantastic job, and they were very quick and efficient. They were even kind enough to move a couple of pipes around in my garage for no additional charge (other than parts). As far as quality, service and professionalism, I have absolutely no hesitation in recommending them. That said, they are not the cheapest guys in town. In fact, I felt like they were a little pricey. I have learned the hard way in the past that you get what you pay for when it comes to contractors and service professionals. So, while I wish that it had cost less to replace our water heater, I do feel that I would likely have gotten a lesser quality of service if I had chosen someone else, based solely on price. It's better to pay more up front for a quality job than to pay less up front, but have to pay for it again later when the flaws in the installer's workmanship surface. So, to make all that a little more succinct: you will get great quality service with Water Heaters Only, and you will pay for it, but it's worth it. read more

Describing the current water heater model and infrastructure, WHO, Inc. was able to quote me over the phone. The quote was excellent and I decided to hire WHO Yesterday, the technician Thomas came by and did a change out of the water heater. Thomas executed the job very professionally, bringing the installation to current code. It was a pleasure watching Thomas work, very focused and expedient.
