We had a Rheem water heater that stopped heating the water, but was still under warranty. Water Heater Man sent out a repairman to assess the problem. Parts were required. At this point we were told that every service call would be $200. When some parts arrived the service man returned to install them. We were told there was one more part to arrive, so that would be another $200 service call. What a scam! A business advertised to replace and repair water heaters does not have the needed parts and when they do have them, it takes two more calls to finally repair the water heater. The cost would be well over $600. Also, for the first call we were charged $99 for a Commercial Service Fee, and for the second we were charged $69 for a Residential Service Fee. Stay clear of this business. They are obviously eager to gouge their customers for as much as they can tolerate. read more

Water Heater Man installed a Bradford White water heater. While under warranty it failed. They came out and tried to fix it, staining our carpeting in doing so. They were not able to fix it. They installed a new water heater of like model. There was no mention of any associated charge. They were quick and responsive over Yelp/email and indeed had the best price around - some others came somewhat close but most companies were quoting $500-$600 more (don't waste your time getting quotes from Home Depot/Lowes, they were charging 2x as much as Water Heater Man!) I work for a commercial facilities maintenance company and called Water Heater Man after one of my restaurants lost hot water and our regular plumber couldn't get pricing to repair until Monday. I called about 9 PM on a Saturday night and spoke with Don. He was super helpful and helped me troubleshoot a little over the phone and explained the mechanics of the water heater needing service. The unit is old, and parts are not going to be easy to come by, but Don did everything he could to figure out how he could help. I've also worked with (and for!) many plumbing companies over the years and no one can come close to WHM's pricing or knowledgeable staff. Our old water heater started leaking, so I shopped around. Water Heater Man was the best price, and most of the reviews were glowing so I went with them. They took about a day to reply to my initial request, but once the ball was rolling they were very quick to reply. Service was scheduled on Friday, for a Monday appointment. Contacted this company to get a price of a water heater and installation. Great customer service. During a hold time I heard there advertisement about their hot water recirculation system. When I was taking off hold I asked about the system. There was no up sell attempt just information and if it sound like something I would be interested in. I did have the recirculation system installed, but I did have a 50 gallon water install at a great price and with in 3 hours of reaching out to them. I could have done the installation myself and saved a couple hundred, but not wanting to deal with picking up a water heater from Lowe's, dealing with fittings and having to dispose the old heater, the extra cost was well worth it. I had water heater installed in 2013. The company told me that they mostly do commercial, they rarely do any residential work. However, since I was close to their warehouse they installed a new American Standard water heater for me. So far the pilot assembly has failed 3 times, each time I've asked for their help to fix it. They suddenly say they have nobody available to help and if I'm willing to wait a week I can get it fixed. I feel like they are giving me a much lower priority since I'm not worth as much as a new installation or a commercial property that will pay more. Additionally, I called them in the morning and had to call back twice for them to return my call. Finally, I was just told, no way, they can work on it, till the following week. I am a professional property manager. I have probably purchased between 5 and 10 new water heaters from this company over the past 20 years. I like the fact that they have a quick turnaround, because renters do not like not having a hot shower available. In the past few months, I have had The Water Heater Man out to service one particular water heater (that was built in 2012 so it's not that old) on three separate occasions because the pilot light will not stay lit. At each appointment, a different technician came out and tried something different and I paid the bill. After three service calls, I am out hundreds of dollars on this particular water heater, and none of the three technicians knew how to fix it. I called for service again, and suggested that I was ready to replace the entire unit, since it seemed to keep breaking and no one knew how to fix it. And when making this appointment, I have to say the lady booking the appointment was rude to me on the phone. After I booked the 4th appointment, she made a special effort to make a follow-up phone call to me to let me know that I would be expected to pay the full $115 fee for the technician to walk in the door (I paid the service fee on the previous calls, I'm not sure why she thought I wasn't going to pay for the fourth service fee?). Anyway, I gave this company lots of chances and lots of money to fix this particular water heater, and when the woman was rude to me, I decided I didn't need to deal with the water heater man in the future. I have to amend my prior scathing 1-star review, not because anything changed with the previous interaction with the antagonistic person on the phone who identified himself as "Bill", but because an extremely professional man named Donald (not sure his last name) followed up with me and assured me that the way I was interacted with was not the way that his company usually conducts themselves. He went over and above to offer to explain that what the rude man had meant was that their territory is Orange County, and since I live in Long Beach which is the Southernmost portion of LA County, they normally do not come that far. But he offered to replace my hot water heater and attempted very sincerely to rectify the negative feelings created by the man answering the telephone. (I noticed on other negative reviews that other reviewers also experienced antagonism upon calling this company.) I told Donald how much I appreciated his professionalism and customer service, but declined to have them replace my water heater because I had been left with such a poor impression of this company that I had no trust in the company as a whole, since I had been told in no uncertain terms by the guy who identified himself as "Bill" that they were not interested in replacing my hot water heater system. Had I encountered others from within this company as stellar as Donald, there would be no question... I would have hired them in an instant. So although Donald himself gets five stars from me, the first encounter with "Bill" was so negative that he would have gotten zero stars which equals out to 2.5. Sorry Donald, cuz you are great. I have a homeowner's warranty that covered my water heater. However when 2 other companies came, they wanted $800 and $1020 for "uncovered expenses" such as supply lines, straps, pans, sediment filters, expansion tanks etc. This was on top of my homeowner's warranty covering the labor and water heater itself. To me, this cost was not justified as the ancillary parts were more than the water heater itself. When I called and spoke to Matt, he said that generally their company offers flat rate pricing to avoid any surprises. He said that if any of the aforementioned components were needed it was included. After having 2 horrible quotes it was almost too good to be true. It made me skeptical if this was actually a switch and bait. Instead Matt provided it in writing via email which provided me with the reassurance I needed. Appointment scheduling was also very accommodating where most companies were quoting a week out. When Mike came, he noticed that I keep a very meticulous home. He immediately laid out a protective runner to prevent tracking in dirt on to my carpet especially with the rain. He noticed that I was curious about all the little steps, and was kind enough to share his experience with me and what he was doing. At the end, he even mopped and cleaned out the water heater closet all without being asked. This was above and beyond to me. Obviously once the water heater is in, I'll never be able to get behind the water heater closet to clean it out and this was going to be it's once every 15 year cleaning. Mike also seemed very patient and methodical in his process. He never rushed like he was trying to get off to the next job. He made sure to leave everything as clean as possible. I literally could not ask for a better experience especially from Mike. The clear, flat rate pricing, honest sales approach, and excellent quality of work is to be commended. I DO NOT RECOMMEND!!!! BEWARE OF THIS COMPANY'S STANDARDS !! I had a water heater installed in March 2012. They re-used the existing straps which were 30 years old instead of supplying and installing new straps with the new heater. This is NOT good and professional service. A NEW heater should come with NEW STRAPS. The straps they installed were not installed properly. They do not wrap all the way around the unit. Additionally, the unit was not properly "blocked" or secured to ensure no movement in case of earthquake. Straps are sold in a longer length for the sole purpose of being wrapped around the entire unit. This was confirmed by general contractor, inspector and basic 'how to video' on YouTube. This company was unprofessional when I called to request a RE-DO and correction of the initial install and they do not care about customer safety or code compliance. They quoted $870, but ended up charging an additional charge of 89.50 for labor cost due to (1) flight of stairs. read more

The water heater at my parents' house broke down. I called several companies, and found Water Heater Man to be the most professional. I spoke with Matt and Bobby when making the appointment, and they were upfront about all the details. (Other companies would quote ~$2000, $1500 and then would give discounts after "talking to managers"). I was able to send pictures of my existing setup and Matt followed up promptly with all details. I really appreciated Matt and Bobby for their patience in giving overview of the installation process, tank-less/traditional water heater pros/cons, different brands, etc. They told the total to be ~$980 and no surprises -- it was the best combination of price and service. I also wanted to give a shout out to Jimmy Bassett who came to install the water heater. He called ~30 minutes prior to arrival giving us ample time to be at home. He was truly professional in the entire process. He carefully removed the old water heater, and fixed the platform underneath, and installed the new one. The entire process must have taken ~2.5 - 3 hours, but Jimmy did not seem to be rushing in just "getting things done" but rather "getting things done right". After installation completed, he checked all outlets in bathrooms ensuring that heater working. He also explained the water heater operations. He said he had heard good things about this company and suggest I try them for faster service. He gave me a range of what I should expect to pay so I wouldn't get ripped off. I called and spoke to a gal and she gave me an estimate that was on the low end of what the plumber I know told me to expect so I booked an appointment for the following day. I have to say that there 4 hour window is a little annoying and the gal on the phone offered zero flexibility and even sounded a little annoyed. But here is what drove me to write this review -- the plumber cleaned my garage floor!!! Yes, he went above and beyond and left my nasty disgusting moldy floor spotless and I am so grateful. When I got home from work, after a 10 hour day, I honestly almost cried because i had been dreading scrubbing the garage floor this weekend. He has excellent communication and interpersonal skills and showed patience when accommodating my needs as a customer. I am very detail oriented and he let me watch his work. I can be a big pain in your side with me hovering, asking questions, requesting certain things be done in a certain order. Andrew took this all in stride and I felt very valued as a customer and the work was done very well. I would recommend this company and would use them again. They also quoted me the lowest price after calling five different companies. The next lowest price estimate was $250 above Water Heater Man. 7/29/30 update The owner personally called 2 days after I posted the last review to discuss the matter and made things right today by not only replacing the screw cover but the entire plumbing cover panel with new parts. This is definitely a 5+ star follow up service but unfortunately still have to knock off a star for the overall 'total' experience. From my conversation with the owner, I could tell he really cares about his company and its reputation. I have mentioned before that there are one do the few Rinnai certified techs around and I would definitely still consider them again in the future. --------------------- Prior review: Just like many others, I only take time to write reviews that are only either very positive or negative... I've decided to write this review after receiving a phone call from a manager early this morning. Make a long story short, not only was my problem not resolved, their tech broke the water valve knob and lost a screw and screw cover. Because of the Covid-19, I stayed outside of the garage but saw him using a ranch to pry open the water valve and heard him dropping the cover onto the floor. I discovered these issues 2 days later and called the main office, the tech's phone and left an email. The main office called back the following Monday and agreed to send someone out to address these issues, however, I was rescheduled 3 times before someone came and was late when he finally showed. So the same tech came back out and he knew right away what he had done, but instead of apologizing, he said that this does not by any way affect the performance of the water heater. Honestly, it was very awkward confronting him and I couldn't believe they sent him back out again. I told him this is poor customer service and not a justification for him to cover up his mistakes. He did went ahead and replaced the valve knob and new screws. He then told me the manager agreed to order the screw cover and will most likely mail me the parts when available. He took more pictures of the unit and model number and went on his way. Two weeks later a field supervisor came but with the wrong replacement parts and said have to reorder. Fast forward to today, a manager called and said I have to pay out of pocket for the parts and with labor that will be over $300. I told him that there is no way I'm paying for their mistakes and this is not acceptable but I can't tell them how they run their business. Few things to keep in mind when hiring any contractor for any job in the future: 1. Always do research ahead and look for alternatives if unsure. I contacted them because not many Rinnai certified techs near me. 2. Make sure you take pictures of your unit before and after the service to avoid any disputes afterwards. 3. I called at the beginning of Dec 2017 to book an appt before Christmas, I wanted just the annual cleaning, so we wouldn't have any issues since company coming for the Holidays. Three weeks out no issue for me... I waited and 3 hours into my 10-2 time frame, I got a call the they were to busy that day, restaurants had issues and they had to go there before a homeowner. I rescheduled for February, but had to cancel due to a family emergency. I called 2 weeks ago to reschedule my appt. Today was the day!! Time frame 10-2pm... Even got a phone call last night to confirm... Well, here we go again, just got the call and they cant make it because restaurants need them... I had a leak and called 3 different places. One was cheaper but couldn't come immediately. The other one was about $250 more. I called Water Heater Man on Monday morning and they said they needed a 4-hr window but could come on the same day. About an hour later, they called me back and told me that they would be there at 11:30am. Johnny got there on time and was very professional. He removed the old one, cleaned up the mess and installed the new one, all in about an hour. I ended up getting the 50gallon tank, which is only $30 more than the 40gallon tank. Everything works perfectly and I am very happy with the service. The price is not the cheapest, but they are very professional and get the work done quickly. read more
