We just recently went to the "new" location for a wine tasting. They have a neat space in the back for tasting events, and a good selection of wines and other spirits. The tasting we attended was free, and the rep was friendly and knowledgeable. They didn't have a particular wine we were asking about, but offered to order it for us, and it arrived within a few days. If paying with a card, there is a fee, as with many places these days, so bring cash if you'd like to avoid a fee. If you're looking for a good wine selection in Milwaukee proper, Waterford should be on your list. read more

We had a wonderful time last night at the wine & chocolate pairing event at Waterford Wine! The beautiful chocolates were provided by Fazio's Chocolate in Elm Grove. The chocolates were all super flavorful and had an amazing creamy texture. Clearly high quality stuff. The wines the staff at Waterford paired beautifully! They even let us sample some espresso liqueur and peanut butter tequila to go with our chocolates! The staff was also very knowledgeable and helpful. This is a great little shop with a wide and interesting selection. They also have spirits and I found a lovely bottle of whiskey to take home. All in all, this made for the perfect environment for a Galentine's date! I will be back! read more

I've been coming here for many years, usually spending a couple hundred dollars a month. Knowing it is typically more expensive than anywhere else, I appreciated the knowledge and the helpfulness. Unfortunately, the last few times the staff couldn't even be bothered to get off their phones and even say hi, let alone make any recommendations. Want to charge more for wine? Fine. Want to even add a 3% wine credit card surcharge? Great, I don't mind. However, the staff better provide some resemblance of customer service for the added fees and higher prices. This will be the last time I come in unless behavior changes. I expect better. UPDATE: Against my better judgment, I returned for convenience only to be over charged one time and misrepresent another. My recommendation for anyone that comes here is to take pictures of the goods on the shelf. They will often ring up differently on the register. They will not try to fix it or catch it after the fact. read more

Love this place. I often order online and then go to pick up. The process is easy. They're also great if you go in and need help finding a bottle. I'm not sure how the prices stack up since I tend to be the $7 bottle of champagne type, but everything I've bought from here has been fantastic. The gentleman at the front desk (whose name I *thought* was Chris but might be the owner, Ben) was very friendly and helpful. Great location but poor service. They barely acknowledge your presence when you walk in and seem just a tad more interested when checking out your purchases. I try to engage them every visit and its a struggle, so after this visit i am officially done. Sad part is they have great wine selection and pretty cool liquor selection. Visited Waterford recently and will not be making a return trip. Beautiful wine & spirits selections but could not have felt more unwelcome by the staff. I was the only customer in the store with three staff members on hand, no one said as much as hello let alone asking if I needed any help. I definitely felt like I was profiled as someone not worth their efforts, although I spent $65 on two bottles of white and was interested in several bottles of red had anyone bothered to answer any of my questions. The only human contact I received was when one employee grunted when I asked where to purchase my bottles because they don't have an obvious check-out area. Beautiful loft space - lots of wine great wine here, not sure it's a wine value place - interesting that the help are often drinking - there's a sense that no one is in charge but that's ok. I did a $50 wine tasting and it was awkward, the person that led it had condfidence issues and was suffered from being poorly explained, he was a late 20's guy - most of it was drawing a map on a white board and this person spit out everything that was low priced that we tasted but then enjoyed a great pour on anything that was expensive lol - I don't think I even got honest glass of wine with all of the very minimal taste pours. Will never do a tasting session ever again here. There prices can wildly fluctuate without reasonable explanation. I wanted this place to be so awesome. This is the best boutique wine shop in town, good for both those who don't really know that much about wine, but don't like to look ignorant, like me, as well as those who know a lot about wine, like my Chief of Staff. They have an excellent selection, varied by region, grape, price, and they can either help you find something and learn about it, or leave you alone to find what you already know you want. Well, I didn't order any wine but I did work with Waterford Wine to order 4 bottles of scotch for my father's 80th birthday. I'm in Florida and he's in Milwaukee so I wanted to find someone who could delivery and Waterford Wine did not disappoint. I already had 3 bottles in mind, which they had in stock, and then I took their recommendation for the 4th bottle. They were terrific to work with and they even put the bottles in a box with some tissue paper to make it festive for my father's birthday. Great job! Everyone from the novice to the expert is welcome here...although, for a novice, this place may seem a bit daunting. But don't be put off by the boutique-y nature of this gem of a wine store! Associates are really quite helpful and will do all they can to ensure that your wine tasting/buying experience is not only pleasant, but educational as well. I can't remember the name of the woman who helped me last I was at Waterford, but she literally took 30 minutes of her time to chat with me about the merits of late-harvest Zinfandels versus aged Tawny ports and which would pair better with a particular pot de creme. Though I've never met the owner, I'm on the email lists, and will say that I feel as though I know the guy without ever having met him. His vibe shines through even in text, and his cheeky way of talking about Waterford's wine specials makes the idea of going to a tasting accessible and fun. Well my review may not be filled with cheesy wine puns but I still love Waterford Wine! I'm still a beginning on the wine front and love the wine tasting classes! I learn so much and get to try lots of different great wines. It definitely expands my taste of wine. The wine tastings are a great time and would be perfect for a date. Ben the sommelier is awesome. Waterford Wine is as good as a powerful 1982 Bordeaux! Purely remarkable! When walking past the store, I immediately thought it was just a cool looking little wine store, but I assumed it didn't have a wide selection. I kept walking past and not stopping for weeks because it did not seem too amazing. WHAT A MISTAKE. Crossing the threshold of Waterford Wine Co. is like going on an adventure to the Loire Valley! The owner, Ben, is one of the most knowledgeable and helpful "sommeliers" ever. He's about as sweet as a Trockenbeerenauslese Riesling. Even if I walk into buy a simple bottle of wine for a Tuesday night dinner, Ben will go out of his way to help you find the PERFECT match for whatever food you're eating. Not only does he make a recommendation, he takes the time to explain the region, explain the flavor and "introduce" you to the producer. It's fun and educational... and more importantly, it'll get you drunk in the end. The most important recommendation I can make about Waterford Wine is to participate in one of the weekly wine tastings. These are not simple tastings, I consider them wine classes. The setting is the quaint upstairs tasting room with a large 10 person table. Once everybody arrives, Ben kicks off the tasting on his white board explaining a region or a varietal... and then the drinking commences. For a tasting of 10 people, you'll all finish 9 bottles of wine. You do 3 flights of three wines and then the remainders are free for all for the table after the tasting. Every wine that I've had at the tastings has been amazing. I've never left without a case (which gets a special tasting discount too!) We love wine, but as most wine drinkers know, it can be an expensive hobby. My son lives in Milwaukee and told me about Waterford. All I can say is WOW. We subscribed to their email blasts and just love reading the reviews on the wine of the day. They make is so easy, read the review, if it sounds like something you might like, order a case. Then every month or two, make a trip in and pick up your orders. And the new store even has parking... For downtown Milwaukee, that is a good thing. We have told our wine friends, and a couple of them have already started ordering. Good to great wines at good value prices, what could be better? I think I will open a bottle now. read more

My husband and I love Brady street and we happened to find Waterford Wine after a day of shopping. Love the shop, love the selections. We were really happy they offer wine tastings and other tastings as well. We walked in to join in the American Whiskey tasting and the gentleman informed us, "Oh, those sell out so quickly...within hours, you really need to be on top of things and sign up quickly..." So my husband wanted to then sign up immediately for the Scotch tasting...click click, "Oh sorry folks, that's sold out too." Then we were there in silence for a few minutes and he then tells us to check their site and sign up sooner for their tastings and shows us the door. Now let me ask you, why wouldn't they have two days of tastings? I realize the representatives maybe from out of town, but if they sell out so quickly, why not have a 5pm and 7pm tasting? Plus, we didn't feel like we were valued enough to be put on a list, he didn't as our names, didn't say he'd alert us of future cancellations...long story short, we felt like he just didn't want our business. I'm sorry because we enjoy good wine and have money to spend. We then walked by an hour later to see three people milling around the shop...so the tasting was over in an hour? With small business closing left and right, why wouldn't they want our business? I understand they are friendly for purchasing a bottle of wine, but good luck getting into their elite club for tastings - at least that is what he conveyed.
