This is a review I hate like heck to write but I believe in reporting the truth. We found this unknown hideaway 2 years ago. It was amazing. Fresh food, huge portions, strong drinks, just a very out of the ordinary place. Good music, etc. We invited friends to dinner tonight and everything was straight up bad. The pork steak used to be huge, thick and delicious. What came out tonight for our friend was half the size, 1/8 inch thick and cooked to death. Hamburgers are no longer fresh, but frozen and flavorless. Drink portions were completely off. I was served a drink in a large solo cup, no alcohol to be found. I've been telling everyone what a great spot this was for 2 years. Now I am eating my words. Don't know what has happened but it's all been bad. Wait staff is still great but the quality of the food is trash. Sad to say but so long Waterfront Grille. It was fun while it lasted. read more

My catfish was average, not as good as many others, and my grilled asparagus was thick and had no oil or spices, making it mostly tasteless. Had our motorcycle group, prearranged, show up last Saturday May 2, at 1:00pm. Service was really poor and just about everyone's food was COLD! Why? The older woman told us a couple people didn't show up to work, so that justifies cold food? unacceptable food and service. I don't get it, my wife's hamburger and fries were horrible and COLD, why. She didn't even eat it. Amother gals chili was cold, and served without a spoon! I hear people who ordered the catfish was at least warm, not served hot! WHY????????? Had a group of 4 for a late lunch today. Had catfish sandwich, beer cheese burger, beer cheese sandwich, and smash burger. All were excellent! Ate outside overlooking the Kentucky River. Service was great and everyone from the waitress, the cook, and the owner were extremely friendly. Would go back in a heartbeat. read more

Thoroughly enjoyed this place. I stopped in on a freezing cold snowy night and I'm glad I did. They serve simple, but delicious, hamburger. A hot bowl of chili and an icy cold beer were the perfect accompaniment. Highly recommend. read more

The pork loin sandwich was HUGE. it was cooked on a salt block and was tender, juicy and cooked perfectly. It was not overly salty as is usually the case at other places. I live in Winchester and this is just a few minutes down the road from my house. A buddy of mine frequent this watering hole often. They are a bar/grill with a huge deck that overlooks the river and a stage which normally on weekends has a live band playing. It is a place where a great collection of people hang out. Their food is great with large portions. The beer is all bottled or canned and is cold. They sell liquor and mixed drinks as well. If you are looking for a place off the beaten path, I suggest to pop in here on a Friday or Saturday night. Be ready for some fun. The staff here are super friendly and will learn your name quickly. They also remember your order/drinks from each visit. I love this place. I have found myself here once a week to be honest. Stop in and maybe I'll see you there. read more

I was told that there was a new restaurant, by the river. So, we headed to the river on a Friday night around 6 pm. It wasn't very busy, but we were told that once the band starts playing at 8 pm, it gets packed. For the record, it isn't new but does have new owners. A husband and wife team who are judges in Winchester. Well, the husband is apparently now retired. The LLC name listed on the window is "AINTJUDGINENT"... love it! And I loved the food and everything about the place. When the band places, they only have a limited menu. That was fine by me because everything on it was some of my favorites. The waitress was very informative, she's the one who told me about the owners and that he was actually part of the band that was playing at 8 pm. Anyways, she explained that because they get so busy while the band plays, to keep the kitchen flow going and organized, they don't offer steaks and things that take more time. Great management, if you ask me. I ordered chicken tenders from the appetizer menu, with a side of fries. They both came out piping hot. My dad got the beer cheese burger, which was pretty big and he raved about it having plenty of beer cheese. The service was phenomenal. Not only did we have an informative waitress, the lady who brought out the food was nice and stopped by a few more times to make sure that we had everything that we wanted. Someone else even stopped by and asked if everything was ok... again, great management. This place is definitely worth the trip from Lexington, or if you're in the area and want to try a place on the river. Side note to the owners though, they do need a better beer selection. All of the excellent craft breweries in the area have created a ton of craft beer fans who won't drink anything else. read more

We decided to try this place out after touring Fort Boonesborough. We got the pretzels and beer cheese and salmon dip. Both appetizers were great. We then got cheeseburgers and fries. The cheeseburgers were excellent. They are probably the best I've eaten out in more than 10 years. The meat was juicy and seasoned perfectly. We will be back! read more

We went because it was close to where we were camping, Boonesborough State Park. We sat inside at a booth. There was only one other family inside and a bunch of people outside on the deck. This should've been a warning. Our waitress was friendly and helpful when we ordered. Service was slow to say the least. It took 25-30 minutes for our food to arrive. Then it was only my wife and son's orders. I had to wait another 10 minutes for my grilled chicken breast dinner. The food was OK and the portions were generous. The only time our waitress returned to our table was to bring our food and eventually our check. She never checked to see if we needed refills. I had to take our glasses to the bar, twice, to get refills. The second time, the bartender didn't want to be bothered from putting beers in the cooler to get refills for us. A higher priority was given to the customers on the deck than the families inside. A young family sat in a booth near us as we were leaving. I heard the waitress actually tell them, "I'll be with you in about 15 minutes." read more

My son was playing in a band scheduled here, so we all decided to make the trip. The reviews seemed pretty good, so we reserved eating supper until we arrived here. The day was dreary and rainy and for a late April day, very cold. We entered the building through the entrance reserved for the band. The dining hall was pretty large, and it was evident that there had been some money spent to make it nice. There was a sizeable stage for the band, and the sound system was nice and sounded good. The walls had five or six glassed garage-type doors in the outer wall so that they could open them in nice weather. These doors lead to the large deck overlooking the Kentucky River. But on this evening, it was too cold to have the doors opened. In front of the doors, there were a row of booths, the tables were crooked, and the cushions disheveled, and there was garbage under the tables that looked like either they didn't spend much of the budget on the tableware or that they weren't good at cleaning. I think the later was the case because as I looked around, I saw quite a bit of evidence that the place wasn't as clean as I would have liked. Maybe the deck hadn't been opened yet for the season, but you could see through the glass doors that it hadn't been cleaned in quite a while and that broken tables and other garbage was stacked in a corner of the deck area. Also there was a metal storage building visible from the inside and from the deck which made an eye-sore of the area. Again, this area probably hadn't been cleaned up from last season, so I would like to see it after the weather warrants use of the space, but because it is visible from the inside year around, it would have been nice to have it clean and neat. There is another room which included a full bar, the restrooms, and booths and tables. This room didn't have any windows and is very dark. I used the restroom a couple of times. You entered a long entrance to the restroom, but the sink and two stalls were on the other side of an accordion door and both stalls were open so that both people accessing the toilets could see each other. The restroom wasn't dirty, but it needed a good sweep. While the band was setting up, my husband and I ordered an appetizer of deep fried mushrooms. It took them about 10 minutes to get the order back to us. We both bit into semi-frozen mushrooms and then sent them back. The second order came about 10 minutes later and was better, but was obviously frozen and not freshly battered. However, they were acceptable. The order came with Horseradish sauce and was good. We then ordered cheeseburger platters with fries. I ordered bacon extra. I ordered mine well done with everything except onion. Dearest Husband ordered his well done with everything and extra onion. It took about 30 minutes to get our order, but I was fine with that because the band had started playing and we were being entertained. Our orders came and the burgers were well done. However, my burger had onion and my husband didn't have extra onion, but he took mine to make up for it. The bun was fresh and the burger was tasty. The bacon was a little undone for me, but acceptable and tasted good. The fries weren't very hot, but they weren't cold either, so they were OK. They would have been better if they had been hot. The wait staff was very friendly and checked on us often. They apologized many times for the frozen mushrooms. The meal total was reasonable ($27 for two cheesburger plates, an appetizer, a tea and water), and the band was great (Custom Made Bluegrass). I think this place has the potential to be wonderful. I think it needs a really good cleaning, and the front needs to look a little less "divey." The view of the river is increadable and coupled with a great live band, this would make a great summer evening stop. read more

Lack of staffing, kitchen issues ( cooking the food outside on a gas grill), warm beer, poor service, chastised for complaining, salad arrived with entree, $9 for a scoop of beer cheese and some crackers. We came upon this bar and grill on our way back from our ride. The food was ok, but the service was slow. Our server seemed overwhelmed even though there was only four other tables and two outside. We waited over two hours for our food, until my husband asked about it did the food finally come out. We are locals and we used to go here all the time before the remodel. Right before the remodel, they began to have trouble getting food out of the kitchen in a timely manner. They began to have a reduced menu on Fri and Sat. I have been there 3 times since the remodel. Well, I took my Dad there for lunch and we had great service and good food. The other 2 times we have been there have been on Friday nights and have not gone so well. Last night it took 5 mins to be acknowledged, sat in the back room with the stage and it was so cold we had to move, 2 other couples also moved. Food took a long time. We got 2 sandwiches and a pizza. We were there for 90 mins. The food is good, when it comes. So, do not go hungry and keep your expectations low. Just took my family there for appetizers and they were delicious. Their banana peppers can't be beat. Crisp and not greasy. The beer cheese - what little there was of it - was decent enough, if a little too whipped to be considered real cheese. Very disappointing! We had a party of 7 on a Thursday night. Our server was great, she kept our drinks full. We waited awhile for our food, but it never came out. We asked our server about the status, and she went to check.. About 10 minutes later, a man, who never identified himself, said that he heard that we were "yelling" at our server. Great place to go to relax and enjoy a great meal on the spacious deck outside over looking the Kentucky river or inside. Weekends are always fun with live band music ,sometimes karaoke and dj's. Also have pool table and TV's in every room for sporting events or whatever!!
