Dang.. I checked in after I paid and ate my pastry! Discounted coffee on yelp check in!! Next time. I had a choco almond cookie crust with marzipan filling. Cup o joe and snack good. Also got two apple strudel for morning!! So many choices yum!!

Despite Covid this pastry shop continues to deliver quality cakes with a smile. Picked up two pre-ordered cakes curbside that was scrumptious. It was worth the 47.7 mile one-way drive. It added a whole level too birthday celebration. Sadly at this time they are only open two days a week. Keep this on your radar. Your palette will be appreciative.

Still some items on offer. Even 30 minutes before closing on Mother's Day weekend.

I offer three stars, which is to say it was not bad. For any of us in the DMV, the Watergate is known to be a famously exclusive enclave for DC elite. I had an inappropriately biased view that every proprietorship located in the lower shopping lobby was going to be Tip Top. Watergate Pastry is situated directly across from a large concrete fountain in the shape of a shallow bowl. It resembles the height of that 1950 / 1960 "International Style" design sense that informs the sweeping shapes of the Watergate and UN building in NY. Yes, I was walking into a pastry shop...30 minutes prior to closing...on Mother's Day Weekend. Because of these extenuating circumstances, I forgive the obviously picked over selection. I'm also willing to wager that the fountain outside was the culprit responsible for the insane number of flies and other winged insects lazily fluttering around inside the business. The interior of the shop felt old, somehow. To their credit, the selections we made were not unpleasant. We bought an assortment of cake slices and small cookies. Even at the end of the day, the apple galette was still crisp, the éclair pastry cream still retained integrity, and the cookies tasted fresh. The favors and textures were...all there: everyone raised their hands. What I did not get was anything exceptional. Not everything in life has to be exceptional. I think part of me was just a tad crestfallen because I (wrongfully) expected the aura of hushed exclusivity that is the Watergate to have held halo over the shops situated therein. What I mean to say is that a visit to Watergate Pastry is perhaps not unlike the first time one rides in an old Rolls Royce. You expect it to be somehow transformative. What you get is the slight must of old leather, an admittedly smooth ride, but ultimately a memory matching slightly less than expectation. Nibble well, my friends.

Happy Birthday to me! This is my movie reel cake...Yellow cake with chocolate layering, fondant top and buttercream stars.
    Yasmine B.

I had a birthday recently and wanted a movie reel cake. Anton, the baker at the Watergate Pastry worked with me to get me what I wanted. I got a 10" yellow cake, with chocolate icing, fondant top and bottom to make the movie reel casing, and buttercream icing on the sides for the stars. The chocolate oscar statue is from Schokolad, and had to be laid down as it wouldn't stand. Tasted wonderful .... Everyone was asking me where I got the cake. I am very pleased with the Watergate Pastry and recommend them highly. Their service was prompt, professional and courteous.

Vanilla Almond and Grand Marnier cakes
    Devon N.

Ordered the Grand Marnier chocolate (on the right in the photo) and the Vanilla Almond (on left). The Grand Marnier was overkill on chocolate - so rich you could only stand to eat a teeny sliver (and then no takers on leftovers), but the Vanilla Almond was a winner. Light cake, fresh flavor - we enjoyed it for several days. The cakes are packaged in high quality boxes secured with ribbon. Lovely presentation and beautifully decorated. Recommended!

We made a special trip out here after we were done with the embassy tour. This is such a cute little bakery. We ordered a piece of chocolate fudge cake. The cake was kind of dry but i really liked the frosting. Overall, that cake was ok. I liked the interior and selections this place had. The prices are kinda on the high side - thats why it got a three stars.

    Drool- chocolate mousse cake

I would give the desserts here four stars, but my overall experience would have to be three. This bakery is hidden down a path of stairs, in a little corner. When you step in, you can tell that the bakery has been there for a while. There isn't a lot to choose from, but that's okay because everything they have is delicious! They have cakes, cookies, and chocolates here! I got a whole white chocolate mousse which tasted delicious. The mousse was was so rich and creamy. It had flakes of white chocolate all over the cake, so you got even more of a white chocolate flavor. When I went there, it was so hard to decide from the white chocolate mousse and the milk chocolate mousse, so I ended up getting a slice of milk chocolate mousse and I was pretty happy I did. I actually liked the white chocolate mousse, so I was happy I got the bigger version of that, but both were delicious! The lady working at the bakery wasn't friendly and she wasn't very welcoming. That's why I would say my experience here was a three star rating.

They are open until 1 PM on Saturdays, we reached at around 11:30 AM and I was half hoping for them to be out of most items. Fortunately, even though they were super packed, we were able to find all of the items we were looking for - thanks to the hard working staff as they continue to make their pastries until closing - unlike so many other bakeries these days that make a certain amount and call it a day! Now to the food, everything we had was absolutely phenomenal! I am not a donut person but I loved theirs as they were very flavorful and weren't too sweet. I definitely prefer their Ube and Pandan over the Black sesame donut. The Matcha chocolate croissant and the Ube Kouign Amann were my favorites of the bunch! I cannot recommend them enough, this will surely be my first stop every time I am in DC!

I'm on a kick with trying new whole grains, wheat berries, etc. so this bakery was calling my name. I also loved that they offered some unique pastries that I hadn't seen elsewhere. We ended up picking out four of their pastries and coffee drinks to have breakfast on-site as a family. In our typical tradition, we cut everything into fourths and the whole family tries every pastry (everyone wins... ;). We thoroughly enjoyed both the savory and sweet (chocolate) options. I could see how this would be an acquired taste for some. I loved being able to peak into the kitchen to see the big oven and where all the magic happens. I also appreciated their sweet neighborhood location and the big windows offering lots of natural light. Overall, a positive and tasty experience.

I had absolutely no plans on buying or eating cake that day, but as a cake lover stuff happens. It was such a cute building the pastries had to be everything! It turned out to be the perfect stop. 1. The looks The building itself is so cute on the outside, and being a fan of the color pink, it instantly caught my attention. Inside, it feels less like a fast, high volume bakery and more like an intimate cake boutique. It gives small town where the owners know you by your first name. You can feel that real love was put into the space and the baking. Tasted like every ingredient was hand mixed, every cake hand frosted, and every cookie carefully hand scooped. They even served my slice of coconut cake on a real plate, which was such a cute, bourgeois touch that I loved. 2. Service The hospitality here is top-notch. On my first visit, yes you heard me! Lol! The gentleman Eric who rang me up was incredibly knowledgeable about all the different cookie and cake flavors. I ended up returning the very next day, and although he wasn't there, the other two staff members working which included Mikaela were absolutely delightful and so kind. The young lady told me her daughter loves the carrot cake as well and Mikaela said they started working there because they loved the patties so much! 3. The Cakes -Coconut Cake: This slice was so delicious, fluffy, and airy that it instantly reminded me of being a kid at holiday family meals with a fresh coconut cake on the table. -Carrot Cake: It was everything you want a carrot cake to be. It was nice and dense yet soft, with a pleasant texture from the added fruits. Definitely noticed pineapple bits! The cream cheese frosting wasn't overly thick and was so good you could eat it completely by itself. -Strawberry Cupcakes: I stole a small bite of my son's. unfortunately, this one was my least favorite. The frosting had a little chemical taste to it but it was a super cute cupcake. To answer your question, will I return? Absolutely! If you are in the DC area or planning a trip there soon, check this spot out. It truly feels like a mom and pop or pop and pop boutique. Not a bakery but a BOUTIQUE! Check them out! Tell them Anisha from Milwaukee sent you! (Not that they'd remember it just sounds cute!)

Instead of leaving the logistics to a third-party organizer, Caspian Crust hosts the experience themselves, and it works beautifully. Everyone shares one long Sultan Breakfast table, making it easy to meet new people over incredible food. If you see one of these events, book it. It's absolutely worth it. The Sultan Breakfast was outstanding and there was so much food. The value for the price is incredible. Every dish felt thoughtfully prepared, and I especially appreciated that many of the traditional meat dishes use beef rather than pork. As someone who doesn't eat pork, that made it easy to enjoy nearly everything on the table. One of the unexpected highlights was learning more about the culture. Another guest at our table was from Türkiye, and she shared that breakfast is traditionally enjoyed before coffee. Once I knew that, it completely reset my expectations. Instead of wondering where the coffee was, I got to enjoy an amazing, leisurely breakfast first. There was a little confusion at the end about whether coffee was included with our event, but the staff quickly sorted it out, and we finished with Turkish coffee and a piece of Turkish delight. It ended up being the perfect ending to the meal. I also learned that the owners have family roots in Azerbaijan, which makes a lot of sense once you see the menu. While the restaurant describes itself as Mediterranean, the flavors and breakfast traditions are distinctly Turkish and Azerbaijani, and it is wonderfully authentic.
