We visited dozens of sites on the internet, and drove to six places in the north Dallas area. The one place that jumped out to us was Parkview in Frisco. We have never been sorry that we chose this as our home. It is a an attractive facility, and the landscaping is beautiful. Parkview has several different floor plans and apartment sizes, but we chose a two bedroom, two bath apartment that meets our needs perfectly. It has a modern kitchen, large living/dining room and a comfortable balcony with a view. All utility expenses (except TV and phone) are included. Our maintenance needs are also included and fixed rapidly just by a phone call. But it is the friendly residents and serving staff that puts Parkview ahead of other retirement complexes. Smiles and hello's greet you in the hallways and warm conversations are the norm in the dining room. And by the way, the food and service iin our Embers Restaurant is first class, with a wide variety of selections and all prepared and served well. We love to take cruise vacations, and our life "aboard" Parkview is very much like that on a premium cruise ship: daily activities, entertainment, dining, etc. So if you are looking for a retirement place, you should come by Parkview in Frisco. We think you will like it . . . we certainly do. Bob M P.S. Here's a link to a website we publish highlighting life here at Parkview in Frisco: www.parkviewers.com

I've noticed that there's ALWAYS a happy buzz in the restaurant - which to me says a lot about how much people enjoy themselves and I've NEVER seen that so consistently at any of the other many many communities that I've been to - and the food is GREAT! Parkview actually have the ONLY restaurant that I've been to in the US where I can get a salmon cooked and served as it should be - and I'm from northern Sweden so I definitely know my salmon! :-D ...and the grilled chicken salad with the Chef's homemade dressing - O M G it's so fingerlickin' gooooood I wished they sold it bottled!! The last time I visited, I got the chance to see their new Assisted Living and Memory Care next door and...WOW!! That is the most astonishing AL/MC that I've EVER seen - on any side of the Atlantic ocean! It seriously looks like a serene SPA with a Texas-twist - it's sooooo beautiful in every little detail and it's amazingly well thought through to help the residents thrive. It totally astonished me and still, I have a veeeery critical eye when it comes to living conditions and surroundings! :-D I definitely recommend this place! :-)

Starting with Julian (who's a real gem), Summer (couldn't be more accommodating) & Carmen (going above & beyond to meet the needs of the residents (& their families) among many others at the facility. My uncle had turned into a recluse at his prior assisted living apartment & started falling a lot & broke his back so he needs more assistance than they're set up for. His time at Bethesda saw his old self coming back out. He was talking & joking & making friends. At mealtimes he sat at a table with 5 other gentlemen & felt a part of the group. His pride & joy was an apron one of the men gave to him to prevent spilling on himself (all the guys at the table wore one) He has now broken his back twice, had Covid twice & had a couple more falls without breaking any bones. Needless to say, he needs more skilled care & it's breaking our hearts to have to move him from Bethesda. If you are fortunate enough to have your loved one live at Bethesda, you won't be sorry! My Mom lived at The Landing at Watermere Extended Care on their 3rd floor for most of the year in…read more2024. This was such a huge disappointment! The price to live at The Landing was exorbitant for what my Mother actually received in daily care. I naively assumed that with the overall beautiful look of the facility and the high cost to live there that the level of care would match accordingly. I was paying for EXCELLENCE! My hopes were quickly diminished. The Aides that were there- and had been there a long time- had terrible attitudes. It was as though they hated being there. I communicated with the Director of the floor, regularly, to make problems known, as I hoped for change in behavior towards my Mom. The Director was super-helpful & did everything in her power to correct the problems! She had meetings, hired new people, & sadly, very little changed. As people were fired & some good new people were hired, it seemed as though this was more of a "systemic problem". Actual change did not occur. The food was very poor quality- I heard one woman describe it as worse than food given in prison. (Imagine school lunch 1975) My Mother lost 20 lbs in the first 3 months, she was down to 97 lbs! The Aides nor Nurses on staff did anything to try to help her find something else to eat. Simply shrugged their shoulders. Her daily routine was: -Get her out of bed in the morning for breakfast. They may or may not put clean clothes on her. May or may not brush her teeth and hair. After breakfast they Put her back in her bed, in the dark, for 4 hours until lunch. -They'd get her up & take her to lunch. Bring her back to her room and may or may not change her dirty briefs, & Leave her in her bed, flat, in the dark, staring at the ceiling, for 4 more hours until dinner. -They'd get her up for dinner, bring her back and put her in bed by 6:00pm, May or may not change her dirty brief, & Leave her in the dark in her bed until 5:00am the next morning when they changed her brief and left again. ****This is not a LIFE!**** It was almost as though they were just waiting for her to die. And I believe she would have if I had not intervened. When I realized the Aides had no planned routine they followed daily, & no one ever seemed "to know anything" about her care routine & who was responsible for what. I finally made a specific list of daily care for her since they had NO care report to follow other than 1. take her to eat and 2. make the bed. These instructions aren't complicated or unreasonable things: Change her clothes daily. Brush her hair & teeth. Change her brief at least every 4 hours. Turn the lights on in her room- open the blinds. Make sure she has fresh water & it's beside her. Don't use her food tray for diaper changes! After several months of fruitless negotiations with her Aides & their terrible attitudes, As a last resort, I took my concerns to meet with the Executive Director & he was talking to Corporate & as it turns out, Corporate was very upset with ME that the Aides were having to follow private instructions daily! They clearly didn't want to make changes & I never heard back from the them or the Director at all! I have everything on photos & videos as well as endless emails listing the lack of care & proper attention on any given day. *Bruises, cuts that took weeks to heal. *Sores on her bottom where her brief was not changed often 8-16 hours between changes. It happened MANY times! It's truly disgusting. (It is the LAW that briefs be checked & changed every 2 hours!) *Dirty gloves, used in changing her briefs, were not removed- handling her clothes, wheelchair, tables, doorknobs, etc. *Diaper changing items placed on her rolling food table during changings. *Dirty clothes hanging all over the room & then put back in her closet dirty. The list goes on. *The RN they are so proud to have on the 3rd floor to have "Hospital Level Care" is actually responsible for making rounds to the other 2 floors in their shift. This means they are very rarely at their Nurses Station seat to monitor the 3rd Floor because they are spread so thin working on the other floors. *Aides are given a certain number of patients they are responsible for, but some people require a lot of time in a shift due to their ailments, so the Aides end up almost ignoring the ones that are "easy" because they don't "need" as much - Or they hand them off to a newly trained Aide that doesn't have experience & doesn't look around to see what is actually needed. In the end, As I was preparing to move my Mom out, I found out that even the people in the leadership positions on the Landing 3rd floor started leaving over the last 2 months we were there. I hope things have improved and it's possible it has-but potential new Guests or current Guest families need to be aware! Get a good camera for your loved one. The saddest part is that I KNOW my Mom isn't the only person these things happened to.

Example: My father in law managed to get out of the memory care wing twice - and nobody knew. When we questioned the door alarm policy - the administrators (Caleb and Jon) admitted that the workers didn't do their job. They admitted the workers lied to them about checking the residents after the alarm went off. Their comment, as they were shrugging their shoulders 'yes, they lie...we can't do anything about it'. The turnover is ridiculous - I realize this job is difficult...but still. Workers, administrators, nurses - all positions had multiple turnovers throughout his time there. Communication with my mother in law was very very poor. He fell on several occasions and nobody could tell her anything about it. We have moved him to another facility - not as 'bright and shiny' as The Landing....but so much safer and competent.

When I arrived to visit my mom, the smell overwhelmed me as I waited at the nurse's desk 10 minute while the staff was scrolling on their phones before acknowledging me and telling me what room she was in. On Tuesday February 17th my mom called me in tears stating she didn't like it there. Come to find out at 4am in the morning the staff woke her up saying they were going to change her colostomy bag but didn't. Multiple staff members came to look at it and then proceeded to complain in front of my mother that they weren't and didn't like to change them. About 8am they finally changed it after asking my mom if she brought the supplies with her to change it! (you accepted the patient but asking for supplies, really?) I went immediately to the facility and spoke with Carmen the nurse director and expressed my concerns, but I felt as if I was talking with a wall. I then spoke with the hospital liaison and submitted a complaint. As I was getting to my mother room she was getting back from PT and needed to be transferred from the wheelchair to the bed. The nurse proceeded to ask me how they normally transfer my mom to the bed. I told the nurse they usually use 2 people and asked her shouldn't you know how to transfer patients. Her excuse was that it was her first day with her. She went to go get someone to assist her and came back with a lady who had a very bad attitude as you can hear her complaining as she entered the room. (Very unprofessional) Needless to say they almost dropped my mother. Had I not been there to slide the wheelchair back under my mom she would have fallen!!! I expressed that this is unacceptable care to the nurse director and hospital liaison. That day I requested a transfer to another facility. When I asked for an update Sunday February 22nd on the transfer I was told they would check on it and I didn't hear anything. Tuesday February 24th, I was told the transfer wasn't put in because the case manager was under the impression we had changed our minds. (Without talking with us) During my mom's stay she did PT/OT for about 20-30 a day, the rest of the time she was stuck in her bed. Her diaper was not changed, nor did they rotate her position in the bed without a fuss. When concerns were brought to the Center Director, he basically said my mom probably didn't remember. I had to tell him I am here frequently and have everything written down, even when I visit, I have to tell them to do things because if I didn't nobody comes in to check her! Not once was my mom offered to join any activities. The food was served cold the whole time and when asked why, we were told they were trying to get the hot plates fixed. My mom was supposed to be transferred to another facility on Sunday March 1st, but the discharge paperwork was not completed so she had to wait. Come Monday morning they didn't have transportation to take my mom to her dialysis, stating they had her down as discharged and nobody could give answers as to why! It took 3 hours for them come up with a solution and that was only because I called to get my mom a later chair time! Beyond happy when my mom finally transferred that evening to other facility! Complete chaos, unorganized, and unprofessionalism is what this facility offers! The left doesn't know what the right is doing there! They made an already hard time even harder for us! I suggest you spare your loved ones and your sanity, take them someplace else!

In the past 40-days our family member who is a stroke victim has been forced to lay in her waste on a half dozen occasions because no one has been willing to come assist her to the bathroom even after she has called for assistance and has waited at least 90-minutes each time. She has been told by 1-member of the CNA staff that they are very understaffed and most nights there are only 3 CNAs for approximately 60 patients. My family member was even told to dial 911 (BY AN EMPLOYEE no less) if she has an urgent need. The crowning blow perhaps was the nonsense of last night, which carried over into this morning. The toilet in my family member's room was clogged and she repeatedly asked for it to be unclogged. This never happened after numerous requests so having to go to the bathroom and no staff responding to her call button, my family member got herself into a wheelchair and wheeled herself out into the hallway asking for assistance with the bathroom. Well the first CNA, a woman was heading to break and the 2nd CNA a man did not want to handle the task so the 2 of them stood there and argued in front of my family member about who should do this and where was someone named Pillar instead of just HELPING my 57 yr old stroke victim family member. I have tried discussing the situation with the Executive Director, Chris Hodge but he has refused to discuss these issues. His indifference and apathy are disgusting and frankly seem CRIMINAL to me! The "shadow of the leader" in this facility is very weak, which is most likely why their employees are performing badly. We have made arrangements to get our family member out of this HORRIBLE facility on Friday and my advice to anyone considering this place is to STOP and find a different facility.

I think to highlight here: Windhaven's unique Spark program has made all the difference for her. Windhaven Senior Living is considered a premier Assisted Living and Memory Care property, and is relatively new, having been recently constructed. We've been pleasantly surprised that, after over four months, they have succeeded in creating a warm and family-like environment that met our expectations. One remarkable aspect that my mother-in-law particularly appreciates is the Spark program. This program is all about providing seniors with real-life experiences. She absolutely loves the cooking classes, and they have been fantastic in keeping her engaged, both mentally and physically. Witnessing her happiness and her positive sense of community here warms our hearts. The staff here is exceptionally caring and deeply involved.
