Biggest negative is the very odd flushing toilet in room 204. Next biggest negative is the really loud hvac. Sort of like a boat engine is running somewhere. We stayed at this resort on August 14 2024. I share this thought with you, DO NOT STAY HERE!!! We were deceived by the pretty water front setting and location. This resort is a run down, 1990s special , seriously in need of updating!!! Every area we saw needed serious attention...entrance, restaurants, bars, conference rooms, etc. We stayed in a "royal suite" for $724 a night. The room smelled of musty odor and you could see mold in the edges of the air conditioning coming out of the ceiling. I discovered this when I felt sick when I woke up in the morning. To add insult to injury, we went to take a shower in the morning and had no water! We had no time to wait for a repair of the shower as we had to make a meeting. When we brought this situation to the front desk manager she was rude and dismissive. We asked if she would compensate us (suggested maybe taking care of our snacks and drinks, when honestly the room should have been taken off the bill). Her response was "she would decide if they would do anything for us and let us know". Our credit card got hit with all charges today. I only wish I had this woman's name so I could let her know directly how bad she is at her job! We travel extensively and have never been treated like this in a hotel. Thank goodness we only had to endure this debacle of a place for one night! read more

I recently went here with a friend for dinner. We were looking forward to coming here, as we heard very nice things about it and were looking forward to the waterfront dining experience. We started with drinks which took upwards of 20 minutes to arrive at the table. I ordered a grey goose cosmopolitan and I am 99% certain they charged me the grey goose price but just used cheap well vodka when they made it. My friend ordered the rum punch and it was more juice than rum. The taste was only a whisper of coconut rum. The appetizers were subpar--the meatballs were dry and the bread that was served on the charcuterie board was stale. There was also a fly on the charcuterie board. We didn't want to make a scene while there were other patrons around us. For our main meal, my friend ordered salmon and I ordered the filet. The dishes were served lukewarm almost as if they prepared them when we put in our initial order for appetizers and main entrees. Now I did ask the waitress to stagger the release of the appetizers and the main course. Maybe we should have waited to order our main course. Her salmon was very dry and as the meal cooled down, the skin on the salmon became very tough and hard to cut. My filet was served lukewarm and it has no taste and was also very dry. I also don't believe I was served an actual piece of filet mignon but rather a mysterious triangular shaped piece of beef. Our waitress came over before our main course was served and asked us if we wanted another round of drinks. We agreed and there was yet another delay in their arrival. We were told that the delay was that they were trying to find another bottle of grey goose. Well, after another 20 minutes came and went (we were done with our meal at that point) we took one sip of our drinks and declined them. Now our waitress was nice and took the second round of drinks off our bill but still. Had we not been starving we would have declined the whole meal. Overall, we were not impressed and will not be returning or recommending to friends and family. read more

Reserved here for Easter Brunch. Very nice dress for and the food selection was out of this world. Kinda pricey but well worth the cost. Even though some people were sitting outside and it was a sunny day it was a bit chilly. Went here for dinner on Mother's Day. Brunch was supposed to end at 5-we had 6:30 reservations. The hostess (who had a bit of an attitude) tells us that brunch 'went a bit longer' and we had to wait 20 minutes before we could be seated. Huh? Somehow they decided it was a good idea to let brunch continue until 6:30 and couldn't seat anyone who had dinner reservations on time. We finally got seated--took forever to get our meals. And we watched as our dinners were delivered to another table. When they figured out they were at the wrong table, they brought them to us and knocked an entire glass of water into my son's lap. He was soaked. They moved us to another table and after a while, someone came by and said--we can give you dessert on the house. No manager ever came by to apologize, they didn't comp his meal, barely offered an apology. I gave them one star because the food was good, but service was awful. I'm giving 2 stars because the shows are so much fun! I will say one show was a tad out of control with no one mitigating the drunk guests who were standing up front blocking the show and being disruptive. Other than that, the performers were wonderful and shows are fun. We have been here many times both for shows and to stay. However, the hotel part is extremely dated, many times the indoor pool is freezing cold and the hot tub is out of order more times than not. We just stayed again because of a show which was awesome! However, the room was subpar. Other guests we spoke to (maybe 10 other couples) were all complaining about the thick hard pillows and the "queen bed" that absolutely seems more like a full size. We really only come for the shows.... If you want to stay somewhere there are other nicer places in the area that are more quiet and updated. read more

Overall, a nice one night stay here, though it's expensive for what it is. The room was comfortable, a bit basic, but convenient to access from the lobby/reception area. Being October, it wasn't outdoor pool weather by any means so it was annoying that the indoor pool was closed. Given the reviews, we opted out of the onsite restaurant and ate elsewhere in town (lots of great options). The grounds are lovely - it's all in the name, this truly is at the water's edge so it makes sense that this is a hugely popular wedding venue (there were several the weekend I visited). I've been to the spa a few times in the past, and this time opted for a prenatal massage which was nice. Given there were a ton of people there for a wedding, the spa's 'relaxation room' was more of a social gathering which took away from the whole spa-like atmosphere. read more

My fiance and I chose to get married at Water's Edge after he proposed to me there and after having such good prior experiences. Our wedding was in December so the best part about getting married here at this time was that there were minimal to no guests at the hotel. We were able to take photos across the grounds and didn't need to worry about people in their bathing suits walking by and staring. It was also great because it was decorated for Christmas and the trees and lights inside just made it even more beautiful. The food was fantastic, we did a tasting of the whole menu and had a hard time making up our mind for not only the entrees, but even the passed apps and starters. The chef worked with us on a few minor requests we had and truly did a great job with everything that came out. HIGHLY recommend the duck spring rolls and the short ribs. The open bar was perfect and our bar tender for the night (Jenny) did not let a moment go by without us having a drink in our hands! She was great! Nancy was our wedding planner and I can't say anything but huge positives about our experience with her. Nancy was not only on top of everything, but just seemed to do everything behind the scenes without needing too much from us. She was detailed, organized and made the day go by seamlessly. She also has a great sense of humor! All in all, I couldn't have asked for anything better. I highly recommend this place for the scenery, the people you work with, and the amazing food. One week before attending the Eagles Tribute dinner show, waters edge called to see about allergies. Impressive...I explained my allergy in detail. When the buffet opened up, The only thing I could eat was Mac/Cheese and the vegetables. The three entrees all had an ingredient that I was allergic to. When asked a server if there was something for me to eat based on the phone call earlier, I was told no. So, I spent $90 to see a mediocre band and fine dinning of mac/cheese and veggies. Food quality for this event was poor. No fine dinning establishment should be serving mac/cheese as the starch for a buffet dinner. Especially when fried mac/cheese was one of the appetizers. The veggies were carrots/red & green bell peppers which were also on the table along with cheese n crackers. The dinner was just more of the appetizers just prepared differently along with a spiced chicken, spiced pork, and cajun fish (very smelly). Very disappointed. Maybe only eat here off the menu. Don't do the dinner and show. Cheap inexpensive food served for $90.00 per person. $90.00 per person, 10 people per table, 25 tables. That's $22,500.00 TOTAL and they served Mac/Cheese, Cajun Fish (smelly), Spiced Chicken/Port and a slice of yellow cake for dinner. Insulting. read more

My SIL and I came to enjoy a spa day and get some much needed relaxation. Making a reservation was very easy, the spa front desk staff were exceptionally lovely and accommodating on the phone and very communicative with reminders leading up to the day. Upon arrival, the facility looks beautiful from the outside. Even walking in to the spa area is very posh and modernized, which seemed promising. However, inside the locker room and the actual spa facilities themselves, the age of this establishment definitely showed it face more prevalently. We both changed and left our belongings in the locker room and made our way over to the relaxation room, which was very relaxing and lovely indeed. There were little snacks, waters, juices, teas and coffees to enjoy and we were found after only a few moments for our massages. Massage rooms were very basic and again, showed evidence of an old facility (paint along the trim cracking, etc.) The tables were warmed and comfortable and rooms had the basics for the massage itself. While we had separate massage therapists, both of us thoroughly enjoyed our massages. Mine was male and my SIL's was female and they both did exceptional jobs releasing tension and allowing us to relax. The service itself was great. Post-massage, we did enjoy the relaxation room for a few moments longer until we headed to the indoor pool. The pool area was large but again, very dated and seemed like a bit of a resort afterthought. Pool cleaning items were left out in plain view, etc. I did not love how the gym windows and gift shop windows appeared to face the pool, so everyone inside could see you and vice-versa. The pool was clean, comfortable temperature and we did enjoy it for a while. We also really liked the hot tub, as well. We attempted to use the sauna but it was honestly so deep in a sort of tucked away, eery basement, corner of the facility and was totally cold when we got down there, so we didn't have the patience or interest to heat it up and give it a fair try. Ultimately, the most incredible thing to speak on about this day was the pricing. With tax and tip included, the cost for the massage and full spa access for the day was $160ish. Having enjoyed many spas and massages in my life, I felt like that was an exceptional deal. On a happy side note, the young lady behind the spa desk (brunette, recent grad from Morgan School, she shared) was also so kind when we were leaving, recommending the best seafood spots locally for us to go enjoy lunch. It was just an added level of assistance that was above and beyond that is important to note. This wasn't a cold business transaction; they actually care. All in all, would definitely go back for the affordability and the basic use of the facilities again perhaps in the colder New England months! read more

Not a pleasant brunch experience. The food was good, but not nearly worth the price. Additionally, the customer service is atrocious. Made brunch reservations for 10 adults and two children but unfortunately, due to a change in flight plans for one family, only 7 adults and two children attended. We were charged for the full 10 adults and 2 children. When attempting to resolve the situation, I was told there was nothing they could do and I would have to eat the cost. Furthermore, the restaurant manager, Carol, was very very rude during the conversation. This was one day after my family spent over $100k for a wedding for my sister in law at the same venue. I will not be back due to this bad experience. Update: The general manager corrected the bill after I called the resort to escalate the issue. I'm not sure where to start. I took my daughter here for a mother-daughter overnight stay. The hotel decor was really pretty. Just after Christmas, it was still decorated with trees and such. Definitely a pretty place. Checked in at front desk. The front desk staff was just okay. Didn't talk much. Didn't wish us a nice stay. Just did the bare minimum- checked us in. Gave us a key. When we got to the room it was clean and nice but again definitely the bare minimum. I think I just expected it to be a little more upscale for the price we paid and the location of the hotel itself right on the water. It was absolutely clean I will give it that but in need of some updating for sure. The bed itself was nothing at all I would want to return to. A very hard uncomfortable mattress, strange uncomfortable pillows and the sheets were very rough. Again I really didn't expect that such a nice hotel would offer an uncomfortable bedding situation. The bathroom all I can really say is it was clean there was no frills whatsoever. The balcony was cute we didn't have the best for you which is fine but it was definitely the cutest part of the room however being December we weren't out there much. The room was absolutely clean I definitely had no issues with cleanliness but everything else about the room just didn't read nice hotel to me. Went last weekend for a facial in the spa with a close girlfriend. First visit to the spa but I have been to the property prior for a wedding and an overnight stay. The staff was kind, professional, welcoming understanding and which is why there is a 2 star rating versus 1. Facial received was the Vit C facial. You can tell as soon as the products are on put on your face that they are not great quality. I have had many facials and these products (unfortunately I didn't catch the name of the product line) are absolutely subpar. You didn't even feel them on your face afterwards like the soft, glowing feel you have after a facial. The facial itself was 50 minutes. It was just shy of $190 with taxes and automatic gratuity added. Expectations at a resort and spa at that price point are much higher than what was received. The esthetician was very kind and sweet but that's all of the positives from the 50 minutes. You expect you will pay more at a resort and spa but this was likely one of the worst (if not the worst) facial I have ever received. When asked at checkout about the services my friend was very honest. I initially felt reserved on sharing my thoughts however then decided it was best to provide constructive feedback. The gal checking us out was very appreciative of our honest feedback and was professional in seeking a better understanding of what could have been improved. She provided a few vouchers for the restaurants on site and a full sized complimentary hand cream. None of that was necessary but the gesture was appreciated. Unfortunately, the restaurant was even more of a fail than the facial experience. I went yesterday to a private esthetician where I received almost 2 hours of services, a great facial, a wonderful hydrating jelly mask, red light therapy, dermaplaning of entire face and eyelash tinting for $40 more than the facial services at Waters Edge. This facial was amazing not to mention all of the additional services. The property is beautiful, the staff was very accommodating but I would not even consider going back to the spa or the restaurant. read more

The technician said they had NO pillows and did nothing to offer me any comfort. I have had many facials in the past where this request has always been met with no problems. Room is bland, with little decor or charm, corporate style, and overlooks the jacuzzi. We asked for a different room saying it was a seventieth birthday and a clerk said nothing was available and we'd have to pay $100 more for an ocean view. (We'd been told the resort wasn't full.) Basically, we were treated like poor relations after paying $450 on a Tuesday for a standard room. I said we weren't having a very good experience so far. Food at Sunset Grill was adequate, but very slow coming out. View was gorgeous and live music was enjoyable. And sweet waiter brought cake to celebrate my friend's birthday at least. A winter spa break brought me here with a friend last weekend, and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The spa package was not bad $500 including room, two spa treatments, the humongous brunch with more selections you could ever imagine and 10% off dinner at their fine dining restaurant and additional spa treatments. The check in staff member was really my only negative experience in Saturday afternoon, as she was very cold and lacked any welcome at all. Our questions seemed to inconvenience her. However she was the only a staff member like this for the rest of the weekend. The rooms are comfortable and spotless, safe and magnifying mirror included - two things I like to have in my accommodations. We ate in the bistro not the fine dining establishment, sharing sirloin tips appetizer and lobster roll entree both of which were fantastic! But the brunch the following morning blew us away! From pasta bar, to crepe bar, traditional breakfast fare, brisket, salads, gourmet Mac and cheese and gorgeous desserts, my favorite of which was the chocolate croissant bread pudding - out of this world! Too many dishes to count or list! The spa was smaller than most I've been to but the treatments we had (massage and facial) were good, not spectacular. Cannot wait to come back! read more

Very disappointing. The hotel decided to shut down the hot water today for some repairs, with barely 30 minutes notice. They promised that it would only be out for 90 minutes. Well, 3 hours later, they can't even tell me when they will be done. This place should be shut down for renovations, rather than inconveniencing their paying customers. read more

Arrived at 5pm, and were told the room was not ready (despite check in at 4pm). Last time here, we were greeted at the door, and luggage carried in. This time, 3 people standing outside too busy looking at their phones to do any of that I suppose. Finally given a room which was about equal to a Super 8 at best. The room was clean, but the bathroom was in need of repair. The tub slanted to one side, and the floor tiles were all cracked, but if you put enough caulking on anything, it looks fine I guess? No, not a "resort" room. For $450+ you would expect something better than a motel room. So now we head to the beach area. PACKED. But hey, we can get a drink at the bar near there. $18 for drinks. Hmmm, frozen ones...they must be GOOD...nope. The bar closes up at 6pm, so now we head to the upper outside bar for some food and entertainment. Limited seating, but found 2 spots on the far end of the bar. It was soon apparent why the previous people left. The STENCH of sewer emanating from the drain at that end of the bar was overwhelming. Bartender came by, ignoring everybody and proceded to pour a gallon of bleach down the drain and walk away. After 30 minutes there with no one coming by, a bartender finally arrives, but is ignoring folks pleas for service. So my girlfriend asks for a drink and got a angry "GIVE ME A MINUTE!!" response. After talking to the others around the bar (I mean we had plenty of time), it was apparent they were way understaffed. So, we then went to the bar inside to get some food. Different menu than the outside bar though? Why? So we got an appetizer and sat and watched the ONLY bartender working (Grace) doing a fantastic job. She put up with more crap from folks than any human should have to. Everyone was coming inside to get drinks and complaining, and she handled it all. She needs to be cloned! So it's now the end of the night, we head back to the room and get a good nights sleep (mattress was a A+). Wake up, get a slanted shower, and check out. When asked how our stay was during checkout, we expressed we were disappointed in the place. He told us to talk with the restaurant manager, and we did and can only hope something will improve. The response was not encouraging. They definitely have a staffing issue. So if you are looking for a "Resort and Spa", this is not it. read more

Went to this "Spa" for a friend birthday celebration and was immediately met with racism and harassment. We went to the pool area and they let us know there would be a limit to how many people could be in the are, the limit was 15 people. It was myself and 4 friends, why would you feel the need to tell us about a capacity limit when there was only 4 of us and no one else in the pool area? Maybe i was overthinking it, then why did we get noise complaints from 7:30, when the noise rules begin at 10pm? Shouldn't the desk be letting the people know that we have the right to be alive in our private room before 10pm, after 10pm then we can address your noise complaints. This place did everything in their power to make a few black people uncomfortable staying there. They succeeded and i implore any pother people of color there are plenty of other ways to waste your money rather than being harassed by this hotels staff, day and night during your stay. Racists are welcome at this establishment, but if your black or brown and paying your hard earned money as well they will not welcome you. We stayed here for the 2023 July 4th holiday. Great location on the ocean; easy access to food onsite and within a short drive of Old Saybrook. The twins kayaked out to the nearby island, and made use of the gym and indoor pool. Of special note is Leeanne at the front desk. She was friendly, welcoming, and professional. Honestly, she was the nicest person we encountered during our stay in Westbrook. My one regret is she won't be at the Hilton Midtown for phase two of our vacation. read more

We went for Thanksgiving thinking it would be an upscale style buffet experience in a nice atmosphere. It was hugely disappointing and I would never go back or recommend. It was highly overcrowded, no ambience, hot as ever, very poor coordination of the buffet lines and people were bumping into each other or cutting you off. When I went to get turkey, I was offered one skimpy slice and had to ask for a 2nd piece and had attitude back from the "chef". . I did not get to most of the offerings as I'd have to wait several minutes to get to most of it. Some of the buffet also did not feel clean and don't get me started on the dessert options. It was one bite each and they ran out of everything. To top it off, this total rip off was $80 a person. There was 5 of us and we all left hungry. Big disappointment for what I assumed would be high standards of service. The diner would have been a better experience. Just got home from a two night stay with my friend. I had requested an early check in and the manager (Stephen Jarzabek) told me my room was ready (at 10am) and to come whenever I would like! The staff was very friendly, and the room was beautiful. Yes, it was your typical hotel room, but it was clean and very spacious. We stayed at the hotel for dinner both nights figuring it was safer (and more convenient) giving the current covid situation. Our waitress, Denise, was fabulous, and our food was absolutely delicious both times! An added bonus was the magnificent sunset! Will definitely be going back!! read more
