This was my first experience at Wave and I wasn't super impressed. When we arrived there was one other table of four in the dining room but the service would have you assume it was a full house. Once we ordered we probably waited approximately 1/2 an hour for our food. My overall impression is the restaurant is trying to be much fancier than it is. The shrimp fried rice, while delicious, wasn't much better than what you'd get anywhere else for $7 cheaper. The only difference was the shrimp were bigger in size. The wonton soup was very good and chock full of chicken but the wontons were broken and overcooked and the chicken tasted like the smell of boiled chicken and wasn't trimmed very well. I'd definitely give it another shot. read more

I went here for lunch with my dad and brother. Apparently my Dad is a regular, because the hostess (AKA, the owner) knew all about our lives, and even asked where mom was... awesome service. I also /love/ that the owner corrected my socially oblivious brother regarding his etiquette. How else are they gonna learn? On top of having great wait staff who were friendly, prompt, and fun to be helped by; the food was delicious. The glazed-shrimp-whatevers are amazing. I will eat 15 of them (orders.... not shrimp). Pat seemed to give this place a bad review just because it's in a strip mall, but don't worry; this in no way impacts the wonderfulness of this place. read more

I have been frequenting Wave Bistro for the past year or so after I read the World Herald article praising this restaurant as well as hearing fabulous reviews from my coworkers and friends. This place is outstanding. I usually come here with my girlfriends for an afternoon lunch or an evening out with the hubby. For lunch, it comes with a soup or salad and most menu prices are very reasonable, most of the dishes are under 10 dollars. Wave Bistro has awesome asian rolls, as a previous reviewer said, are AMAZING! I would argue that prices aren't as steep as one reviewer makes them out to be. The last time we went, my husband and I had a three course meal (drinks, appetizers, meal, and dessert) and it was under 60 dollars. I usually get the salmon with the cashew crust. It come with fresh asparagus, rice, and this wonderful sauce that comes along with it. The salmon is so tender and a really good portion. My husband has gotten the sea bass several times that has a miso or soy glaze and it is one of the best fish dishes I have tasted. It's a sweet and flaky fish and they have a butter sauce that is to DIE for! Their presentation is always astounding. We've branched out since then, trying different things and have never been disappointed. Their food is always fresh and we've gotten to know the owner, this cute little woman who is always there when we go. We were shocked when we came the first time and the owner knew almost everyone who walked in the door! It's so great to find a family-run restaurant with such quality food. read more

Another new stop and an overall nice experience. First, the ambiance and decor defies expectations for a non-descript strip mall restaurant. The dining room is roomy, clean, perfectly lit and shows as fine dining. The waiter was EXCELLENT with both descriptions and suggestions and the food was well priced. I started with the spring rolls and the firecracker shrimp appetizers. Both were nicely done but the shrimp in particular is worth a 2nd mention. The dish was well balanced and paired well with the house made chili sauce. I am a HUGE fan of chili sauce when done right and this was top 3 anywhere I have been. For the main course I went with the spare rib special. I had a difficult time reaching that decision and part of me would like the decision back. Although the peppers and the sauce were very nice, the ribs were on the dry side. Overall, it was a 4 start experience and I will be back to try out some of the other main courses. read more

We were in the area last night and decided to try this place. I'd heard good things about it, but came out pleased but not thrilled. The wait staff was very friendly and attentive, so high marks for that, and the decor was stylish and pleasant. We started with the won ton soup. It says it's shrimp and chicken on the menu, but a few minutes after we ordered, the waitress came back to ask if we could eat pork, which is what's in the actual won tons. My husband doesn't so that was a disappointment right off the bat. The soup came out beautifully presented - seriously one of the prettiest soups to look at I've ever seen. It had a really nice, rich broth, crisp asparagus, tender chicken and shrimp and yummy wontons. Unfortunately, it was too salty for my taste. Admittedly, I am pickier about salt than most, but it was a disappointment when everything else about the soup was so nicely done. We both ordered specials - I had something called Spicy Seafood Delight or something like that. It was good, and nicely spiced, but again, a little saltier than I would have chosen. My husband said the same about his, which was a Thai Basil Seafood thing. Like I said, good, but not great or especially memorable, so considering the prices (relatively high for Omaha, though not outrageous), we probably won't go back. It's sad, because we're out there relatively often to visit my m-i-l and it would have been nice to find good food closer than the Thai Spice over on 108th. The 144th and Maple area is a bit of a suburban culinary wasteland. :( read more

I am a BIG fan of their tofu Pad Thai! The tofu is slightly crispy and the dish, flavorful. Even my elementary-aged mini me loves it! I order this to go on occasion if I am craving Thai and low on time. I've eaten in over lunch as well and was pleased with the service. A little pricey but the food is on point. This place is a bit atypical. They seat you at a table that is beautifully set only to take the plates away and tell you they were just for decoration. That made us laugh. Our waiter, Juan Carlos, was very friendly, although I thought it was weird that when I couldn't choose between two meals, I asked him to pick his favorite, and he said he wasn't allowed. The food was prepared well, but a little bland. The plate presentation was pretty interesting. I had the salmon as my meal and shared the dumplings and chicken lettuce wraps with my friends. They claim to be a French-Asian fusion, so the spice and flavor combinations are unique. If you like almond butter, you'll love the sweet rolls they bring you before your meal. The decor is clean and modern, but the whole place is one open room with a very high ceiling, so if you're looking for cozy and intimate, this is not your place. You'd never suspect the level of service and quality of food you'll find at the Wave just by driving past. It's on the end of a (mostly empty) strip mall outside of a Home Depot, but once inside, the owners and staff really go above and beyond to make sure their food is delicious and their customers leave pleased. We'd been here for lunch before, but our first dinner experience at Wave came during a girls' night out for Restaurant Week 2013. For $30, we each got a glass of wine and three course meal. But these three courses were on a whole new level, portion-wise. My appetizer, a seared scallop, was delicious. A perfect few bites. Then came the entree ... or what I like to call "Mount" Thai Basil Crusted Chicken. This was two massive chicken breasts stacked on top of a pile of asparagus, surrounded in a delicious lick-your-plate-worthy sauce. Delicious, yes. But maybe hold off on the second breast and, in the spirit of Restaurant Week, just donate it directly to the Food Bank? Then, just when you decide you can't eat another bite, out comes dessert. I stupidly ordered the TRIO of creme brulee (raspberry, vanilla and chocolate). Each one was large enough to be a dessert in and of itself -- and I had three sitting in front of me -- after one of the largest entrees I'd eaten in years. In the end, the Wave gets four stars for flavor, add a star for service, subtract one for ridiculous portions ... and it's solidly a 4-star choice. Just maybe consider visiting for lunch? It will save you a little money and a notch on your belt. read more

Dinner with the family. As always the food and service was great but this time the food was even more incredible. I do not want to use her name but our waitress was incredible. She has a gift. She remembered everyone in our party, where we sat at our last visit (not just the table but which seats at that tabke) and exactly what each of us had ordered at our last visit over 4 months ago. (We are from out of town or would be visiting Wave so much more often!) Her recommendation for food and wine were great and we ordered what she recommended. It was all incredible. My parents thought the duck was even better than the duck they had in China. The seafood dynamite was incredible! Elegant dining. I've been here before for lunch. Dinner was elevated to a fine experience. The waiter was kind, friendly and respectful. He gave us plenty of time to decide. Maybe a bit too much but was relaxing all the same. The manager was as much at service as our waiter. Making sure we had what we needed and all was delicious. They started us with house rolls and almond butter. The rolls slightly sweet but flakey and the butter melting into them. Had garlic chicken with spice over asparagus and fried rice. Generous portions! The chicken was tender and flavorful. Asparagus was perfectly cooked. I just returned from eating at Wave Bistro. I arrived at 12:30 and no one came to the table to wait on us (2) until 1:12 p.m. I ordered the Beef and vegetables and my friend ordered the salmon. The sweet and sour tea that came with my meal was at the most 1/4 cup and it was very bland. I was so disappointed in my food. The beef was tough and what little sauce had no taste. They brought me hot spices to add but it was not helpful. We got our waters filled 3 times but the food and service was definitely not up to my exceptions. I should have left after 45 minutes of not getting waited on but my friend recommended it and I thought that I would give it a try. My mistake. read more

I've driven past Wave multiple times but finally got an opportunity to stop for dinner. I didn't expect the inside to be so nicely decorated. The cocktails were fantastic, and they had a nice wine collection. The meal began with delicious sweet rolls. I ordered the Basil Chicken with Mango Sauce, which I would definitely recommend. The menu indicated it was a spicy item. For someone sensitive to spice, I wasn't overwhelmed by the level of spice. The meal comes with two breasts, asparagus and your choice of fried or white rice. For dessert, we ordered the Japanese Cheesecake for dessert, which was larger than expected and delicious. Our waiter was very attentive and provided excellent service. this place is absolutely phenomenal, and one of my consistent favorites for a West Omaha date night. They are extremely accommodating with vegetarian, vegan or food allergy modifications and the service is impeccable. Get sake hot in the winter, and try the sake martini in the summer-- it's fantastic. I also love their vegetable dishes and the ginger carrot sesame dressing that comes on the house salad. We were given a gift Certificate for dinner and could not wait to use it. Linen Tablecloths, appealing music, extremely clean, and great food. I brought my family, Pad Thai fans, who loved the food. The food is really exceptional here, and so is the service with pleasing decor to top it off. White tablecloths, pretty tableware. We've enjoyed a few dishes here. The Asian bread/rolls are delicate and perfectly flavored. One of my favs is the tempura shrimp for starters; it actually is fresh and tastes like shrimp should. They are happy to provide a carryout if you don't have time to dine in. Service is always impeccable and professional. They seem to ask and remember names there. Wave Bistro is my favorite place to get pad Thai, chicken fried rice, and cashew crusted salmon with teriyaki sauce. Not your typical Thai food, but an Asian fusion version which is even better, plus I would recommend asking for spicy 5 on our pad Thai and fried rice. Every dish (for lunch at least) comes with a soup and I love their hot and sour soup. Service is fairly quick and the workers are so nice. The restaurant itself is very nice too. So we are all clear- this is Asian FUSION, and they've done this quite well. It's food is right up there with what I've experienced in bigger cities. Nobody really likes greasy, sugary stir fry and they don't serve that junk here. The almond shrimp is done right - large shrimp, not overcooked in a light sauce. My girl ordered a stir fry dish (I normally hate all stir fry ChinAmerican food) and this was done very, very well. All of the ingredients were cooked perfectly - you really need to make an effort to cook a dish where the carrots and other vegetables are all cooked to the proper texture. I really like this place. I'm originally from San Francisco and since moving to Omaha, grew to really hate "Chinese" food. This place does it right. I didn't leave feeling sick with that "OMG, I just ate a pile of MSG and grease" feeling. Their dishes are light and you can actually taste the ingredients. Service is great. OH! and the decor is modern, like you'd see in SF. No cheesy gongs and crappy Chinese flea market pics, etc. They aren't trying to be a chinese food dive, they just happen to be asian and serve good tasing food at a nice place. I showed up very late in the evening and there were a few other tables there. They treated me like they were happy to see me and I received great service from James. I ordered the firecracker shrimp roll for an appetizer. It was so good i could have just ate another helping of that and not needed a main course. But I went and ordered the green chicken curry with Pino Noir. I normally lean to yellow curries but this was outstanding. Fresh veggies and the chicken wasn't flimsy or stringy. Very good portion. The three ladies dining next to me left before I knew they had paid for my second glass of wine, so I celebrated and ordered the creme brule for dessert. I normally have picked up food to go from here and have been pleased, but I will definitely dine in again whenever I can. Great experience. read more

I was so insanely disappointed with my experience at Wave Bistro. Here's why: - Seeing as I was super stoked to try a new place, I called early in the afternoon to make a reservation. Upon arriving (right on time, I might add), the hostess was completely clueless and our reservation was long gone. - To try to smooth things over, the manager promised us a "quiet, romantic table" in the back. Turns out this table is located behind a partition, leading to the restaurant's old entrance, where Wave now stores their extra chairs and tables. The manager literally had to unstack the table and chairs to set a place for us, and didn't even bother to put a table cloth on the table. - Seeing as we were now sitting behind a freaking partition, the server promptly forgot about our existence. At least 15 minutes passed without any service before the bartender finally pointed us out to one of the waitresses. - After taking our order, the waitress apparently forgot we had ordered an appetizer during the time it took her to walk from our table to the kitchen. The next time we saw a server, she was delivering our entrees. - While setting our food on the table, the server dumped almost an entire serving of rice all over the floor and our table. Normally, this wouldn't be a problem; things happen. However, instead of cleaning up the mess and bringing out a new rice plate, the waitress just used her foot to "sweep" the rice under the table and continued to serve us the almost-empty rice plate. For real?? - Throughout the meal, the server never returned. We finished our meals, left cash on the table and showed ourselves out since we had very obviously been forgotten. Again. As for the food, it was actually pretty good. Which makes our terrible experience at Wave even more heartbreaking. I would love to return for some Lemon Creamy Almond Shrimp, but I just can't bring myself to do it. Bummer. read more
