Waverly is a super cute brunch spot in Cardiff! I loved the interior and vibe overall. They had a DJ playing music this Sunday for brunch, which added to the overall vibe. The cocktails were also really good as well. We had Aperol Spirtz and the Blueberry Spirtz along with the Dark Horse, all I would recommend. The food is okay. I'd say go here for drinks, ambience, and apps! It's a super cute spot regardless right next to the beach and definitely should be checked out! read more

The bartenders were attention and greeted us promptly. I ordered the chicken Caesar salad and my friend got the pork belly. My salad itself was delicious but the chicken was very subpar - tasted like something that was cooked, frozen, then reheated. I only took a bite of the chicken. The pork belly was delicious but my friend thought the portion size was small. Very cute/trendy ambience is a little strip mall. EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTING I ordered the Salmon, and my husband had the pork chop. I was shocked by the size of the salmon entree. The picture illustrates the salmon which, was smaller than the parameter of a radish. This truly was less than a 3 oz portion. I wouldn't mind going back for the great atmosphere and the drinks, but the food didn't grab me. We sat on the patio; I was facing towards the interior while my friend was facing towards the parking lot and beach. The interior reminded me of a cross between a resort in the Bahamas and Malarkey's Burlap (now shuttered), and I enjoyed having that view. They were busy and it had a good vibe without being overly crowded. Although six draft beers is a small selection, I was quite happy with the Boss Pour IPA at $9. The food is where I was disappointed. The Hamachi Ceviche did not taste like any "ceviche" I ever had before, and at $21 it was quite small (with 4 teeny round chips about the diameter of U.S. quarter). It tasted pretty good, but it did not taste like any of the ceviches I have ever had before, and I've tried plenty. I think there were around 6 bites in the ceviche (3 per person as we shared it). For my main I got the Duck Meatball @ $16. Unlike the ceviche, the duck meatball was plenty filling. But, the taste was completely lacking. It was completely blah... There was no peppery spices or anything. And the polenta came with it was definitely lacking in quantity and flavor. I might come back for a beer, but I doubt I'll be back for a meal. read more

My friend recommend to go here when we were in town because she mentioned that she knew the owner. The ambience is really cute, the furniture is all very trendy and bohemian looking. It's definitely a location that is Instagram worthy of photos. The style was super unique. However, I was a little confused by the menu. There were entrées all grouped together in the same section, but they were all randomly different entrées. I would like to see some options that were more relatable, versus 15 completely random and different things. I couldn't find anything on the menu I'd like, so I ordered nothing. My husband got the eggs Benedict but it was on a croissant with bacon. He didn't mind the bacon spin but the croissant just didn't seem to go. We've had unique eggs Benedict's with potato cakes or thick cut tomatoes as a better base if trying to do something out of the norm of English muffins. It just seemed more like a open faced breakfast sandwich with a poached egg. So maybe renaming it on the menu would be a better idea. read more

Max was the star of the show by a long shot. Waverly has been one of our favorite restaurants for a few years now. The Waverly used to be a restaurant with elevated service, a welcoming atmosphere and high quality dishes with bold and decadent flavors. Tonight did not hit any of those marks. My fiancée and I booked a reservation expecting to celebrate our anniversary with the comfortable elevated dining experience we have had at Waverly many times before. Upon arriving, and realizing the ambience and seating arrangements were not up to our expectation, we began to leave for another restaurant. The manager followed us and convinced us to say, by having us start at the bar and later move to a table. (We really appreciated this.) that is where the detractors began. We started with the ceviche, which was noticeably skimpy, little fish, all avocado. The acidic sauce was so offensively sour, it irritated my mouth like eating too much pineapple often does. Far beyond the normal lime juice in ceviche. The dish itself was sour, bland, and had no flavor other than an unpalatable amount of black pepper. My fiancée ordered the pickled potatoes which we have had many times before. Today, they were sour enough to be inedible. They tasted like nothing other than plain white vinegar to a concentration even the crème fraiche couldn't save. Moving on to our mains, the beef rioja, while great in flavor, was a laughably tiny portion. I would have much preferred to pay $40-$45 and have a dinner sized portion of short rib. Overall, the dishes felt skimpy. Theres no other way to phrase it. My fiancées cavatelli had only a whisper of the sausage the description leads with and according to her was the same as having auntie Anne's Mac and cheese. We were so beyond disappointed that a restaurant we knew and loved had let us down in so many ways. The saving grace was our server, Max. He was attentive, informative, polite, and anticipated all of our needs. It is truly a shame we won't be back to Waverly as being served by him was truly a pleasure. Service (from max) 10/10. 10/10 would recommend this place if you're looking for a VERY cute picturesque brunch place. It was honestly love at first sight when I saw the little yellow parasols out in the front. Stepping inside, I could not stop staring that this was the vibe of my dream home! Made a reservation online and they were able to accommodate my last minute change to a party of 3 instead of 2 easily. I will say they weren't the best at picking up their phone as I had to call four different times until I finally reached them. The BEST dish (I ordered this twice because it was that good) was the hamachi ceviche. It was so flavorful and such a good twist on your regular ceviche! I also really enjoyed the eggplant dip as well, although I personally prefer my toast not so crisp. Creme brûlée French toast - 3/5; I like my French toast really sweet and oozing with syrup. Stopped by here after hearing about their creme brulee French toast and the soft shelled crab eggs benedict from AJ & Sara's new podcast ("All In San Diego") interview with SD Foodies. Such a pretty restaurant with lots of open space, a cool breeze right next to the ocean, and a lovely staff. Food ended up being very delicious, and just the right portion (for my order). Price-wise it was a bit on the high end for me, but worth a try. Menu is pretty simple which makes it easy to order, but I'm not sure if I'd like to try another item. This is such a great new addition to Cardiff! The whole spot is adorable and super trendy and hipster. The restaurant is super open and bright. Love the interior. The staff was also super nice and made sure that we were content, plus it looked like the bar tender was really enjoying his job! Busy, lively restaurant on a Saturday night. Sat inside as it was less hectic than the outside area where kids and dogs were playing. The server was helpful, explaining the menu items, as many ingredients were unfamiliar. Shared two appetizers among four adults. Trout ceviche was delicious, but should have had bread, crackers, or chips to hold the ceviche. Also shared the Cesar salad, which came with large, delicious croutons. One salmon, 2 barramundi, and one braised beef were the entrees chosen. The braised beef was served on a salad plate and consisted of a small portion of beef on a small bed of some mashed potatoes. We were still hungry after the entrees so we ordered two servings of the chocolate cake. All of the food was very good, but we all left the restaurant hungry. The portions of appetizers and entrees were terribly small. I am not a big eater, and prefer not to feel full after a meal, but it was ridiculous to spend that kind of money and still be hungry. Good service, delicious food, but somewhat pretentious. If you go, eat beforehand. read more

I love this place! Great customer service and the ambiance is amazing, not to mention the food, which are shareable, and drinks. Came here on a Friday evening. We made reservations for 5:30pm. Arrived on time, gave our name and were seated immediately. The hostesses were welcoming and had smiles to share. We asked for seats in the patio area. So happy that we did because that was an added bonus to have the colors of the setting sun on the ocean behind us as we dined. I had the Flora cocktail. A 10/10! I would definitely have it again. It was refreshing with ingredients such champagne, vodka, vermouth, lemon, botanical rose, and pomegranate. My friend and I shared the following: Hamachi Ceviche; Roasted Eggplant and Crispy Cauliflower. All 3 had layers of flavor, the presentation of each dish was beautiful in its simplicity and the serving size of each was satisfying. Since I gave my cocktail a rating, it only follows that I need to do the same for our entrees. 10/10 x 3! My friend found this place to visit while we're in town for thanksgiving break. It has a GORGEOUS interior and it's right next to the beach, with tons of natural light - the atmosphere is definitely the main highlight. The food is nice - the avocado toast wasn't overly salty like at other restaurants, and what I had of the smoothie was creamy and not too sweet. The only thing I noticed was that our server was a tad too anxious to get us out of there - she came by once or twice to ask us if we needed anything, to which we said we were fine, and that we'd maybe just be another ten minutes or so. Maybe 3 minutes passed and she came by and picked up my card from the table and was ready to put it into the machine. (It wasn't sitting on the edge or anything, it had been on the table the whole time because I didn't bring a wallet). Anyhow I'm no expert in dining, but from my little experience serving over the summer I'm pretty sure you're not supposed to do that. We'd been there less than an hour.
