We took my mom to Waves for Mother's Day because this is her absolute favorite restaurant. She goes here all the time with her friends, and after eating here, I can definitely see why. The food is always amazing, and honestly, I don't think you can go wrong with anything on the menu. If I had to recommend something, their salads are incredible. Their cocktails are also fantastic. I ordered a margarita, and it was perfect. I also had the chicken wrap, which was phenomenal, and the half sandwich and salad combo is absolutely to die for. Went here last night. Loved the variety of seating options and unique interior design. Our server, Shannon O was super nice and helpful. We split some calamari, my friend said she liked it very much and it was some of the better calamari she had had. I had the banana bay chicken. I liked it, it was a solid serving. Maybe a few more bananas but i thought it was good. Thought it might be a bit sweeter but that is okay. I had the side of rice which was very nice and the Hawaiian salad.... Visually, i was perplexed. Yes, i ordered it without almonds, but this was very much chopped lettuce with dressing and cheese. I liked the dressing a lot but it felt super plain to be featured as an entree on the menu. The free bread was solid. My friend liked her perch. Overall, good portion sizes and a little more of a new age tropical feel versus a normal sea food restaurant. read more

I realize what I'm about to say doesn't make sense, but it's true: wife ordered salmon from here on DoorDash, and it was delicious. I always avoid DoorDash, because the quality is generally suspect, and frequently the orders are wrong. But, everything was perfect. Even the bread dusted with Parmesan cheese was good. So, here we are today. No surprise, she ordered the salmon again, and it was great again....and even better because of how fresh it was. Likewise, the bread was flawless. This isn't just bread with cheese sprinkled on it, like a pizza place. The bread itself has excellent seasoning, and it was freshly baked. My wife got a Caesar side salad with a robust Caesar dressing. I opted for the crab bisque, which - like everything else in this place - was full of flavor. And, unlike many places, it was reasonably full of crab. I ordered the paella, a massive tray full of large succulent shrimp, mussels, crab legs, and perfectly seasoned rice. We went to Spain a few years ago, and this compares favorably to the quality of the paella there. There's no way a single human being could eat this by themself. It was very reasonably priced at $24. There are places on the Nautical Mile where you'll see younger people. This is not one of those places, unless you count the staff. As I looked around, I realized that this was a decidedly older crowd. The ambiance might not be considered cool, but it's not exactly like this is a Denny's. As a member of that crowd myself, I can tell you that you should respect your elders and listen: go to Waves if you want excellent, reasonably priced food. I can't promise that it will be as good if you use a food delivery service, but that was a rare time that I was happy for DoorDash. We would not have found out about this amazing seafood restaurant otherwise. read more

Another fantastic meal at Waves! The bar area is like Cheers...everyone knows each other or they will quickly be welcomed into the Waves family. My sister, niece, and I dined here before an event. Prepare to come hungry as everything is very filling. My sisters fave is the crispy chicken sandwich it is huge. I chose the paradise burger, and it was perfectly cooked. Due to the time restrictions we had, I ate half of my paradise burger and took half home with the fries. It was a smart choice when your event was walking around, followed by a long drive. The bread is tasty also. It is buttery deliciousness. They have a large variety and would have got a bigger entree, likely seafood if I was dining here for dinner. You get a lot of bang for your buck here. It is very popular for that reason. I wouldn't mind returning in a warmer season as it's on the water and they have outdoor seating. I visited in December for a holiday event. I like the clever name for the categories on the menu under the wave for all things seafood and over the wave for all things living about the sea. Even the name for the restaurant is a good one, considering it's on the nautical mile in St. Clair Shores. I don't live out here, but when visiting my sister, I would definitely return. Our waitress was friendly and attentive and the restaurant was very clean. I like how it was decorated for the holidays. The drink menu looked great also, but due to the long drive for 1.5 hrs and at night, I chose pop instead. Great job Waves. read more

We were here valentines weekend and food/service was excellent. The like that the calamari (not pictured) comes in a tomato sauce so no need to dip in cocktail sauce. Was very good. I had the coconut shrimp which was also delicious. Shrimp were plump and still had a nice crunch. The sauce that came with it was ok, didn't have a ton of flavor but was tangy and didn't take away from the shrimp. Hubby got the burger and said it was cooked perfectly. Fries were nice and crispy as well. We tried their signature drinks that were on the valentines specials, the secret admirer and I forget the name of the other. Both were well balanced, not too strong but could still taste the liquor. We will absolutely be back. read more

Had a lovely lunch on Thanksgiving. Food was great, except the Brussels sprouts, everyone enjoyed their different entrees. Food was plenty full and well prepared. My wife and I arrived around 8:25 on a Sunday, when the restaurant closes at nine. They seated us without issues, fuss, or muss. The waitress was chill, patient, and very quick with our orders. We decided to split the Grouper Nuggets and Waves Coconut shrimp (as the other waiter said they were the most popular appetizer on the menu). Appetizers came out promptly, and my wife and I started to fill our gas tanks of love with seafood. The grouper nuggets weren't up to our remarkably high standards for quality grouper. This isn't objective, as we lived in Florida for over a decade. We decided to split the Lake perch sammich & the Grouper Reuben. After dousing the Perch Sammich with a lot of lemon love, splitting it with the wife, I dig into this generously portioned sammich. I thought it was pretty good, but I've had a lot of perch in the frozen mitten, and this was just a fair entree. The Grouper Reuben is where we screwed the pooch. We forgot to order the GR without sauerkraut. The GR sammich was covered like four cops on a perp that had been pulled over for driving under the influence. Scraping was needed to remove that gnarly kraut, replaced it with their delightful coleslaw, took a sip of my iced tea, and chowed down. It was our second trip there, and the first time was much better. We also arrived around 7:30pm on the first trip, which may have factored into play--still, a good joint to check out. The atmosphere is immaculate, calm, and serene(except for some local drunk yelling about last call). I think that was the best part of the meal lol. The drink was okay it was too strong they it's their spend on tropical Long Island. The fried perch didn't have a lot of seasoning but it was decent and wasn't crispy. The first were good. I was told the seafood Alfredo was good as well. I was there with an group event and even though it was 20 of us the service was still amazing we had two awesome waitress and took good care of us and the once we ordered it didn't take long at all to receive our food. Food looks good and taste good. Surprisingly it was not crowded at all. There were plenty of open tables and we were seated immediately. Burgers, Salmon cakes and paella looks very appealing. They taste great also. Paella is questionable because it tastes like Mexican rice so i don't know how authentic it is. Servers refill water constantly and check on anything you need. Last night, I had the pleasure to take my beautiful girlfriend to dinner at Waves. Now, this was the first time I have been here in a while. When I used to work in St. Clair Shores back in 2020, I was an avid Waves eater (mermaid pasta is just great, although I am lactose intolerant, so I would rarely make it through the meal if you know what I mean..). Anyway, we went last night. Our waitress was just so incredibly kind. A smile every time she approached us to check in. Good on her. Aside from that, the food was great. For myself, I got Miami Spice Pasta. It was awesome. Chicken was nice and the shrimp was beautifully cooked. A little spicy too. My wonderful birthday girl got the Seafood Alfredo. It came with snow crab. Very good. The prices here are unbeatable. ~$80 for a dinner for two, appetizer, and drinks. What a night. My only criticism: the calamari. I will start with the good and end with my constructive criticism. The calamari was breaded and cooked perfectly. I was very happy. The only thing I did not like is how sweet the tomato based sauce was. It needs to be a little less sweet, and may I recommend maybe a little spice? Say, Hungarian peppers? The food was delicious and the waitress was on point. Restaurant was clean and we were able to get a table right away. My girlfriend and I had the Philly cheesesteak egg rolls and Coconut Shrimp amazing, then entrees were sautéed perch with loaded potato and salad. Around Christmastime 2023 my husband and I took a car ride up Jefferson Ave to see the lights and stopped in at Waves. Beautifully decorated, outstanding service and delicious food. We came again and brought our daughter and granddaughter they loved it just as much. Came for my granddaughters 12 th birthday had 16 guests. Made reservations a couple weeks prior and we were afraid it would be too busy because it was Good Friday. Let me tell you service was impeccable. Our waitress was nothing short of amazing. So attentive and forgot nothing. Food came out all at the same time from steaks, seafood pasta, salads, kids menus meals, appetizers drink refills they nailed it ! I was introduced to this restaurant by friends who go there often. I was not disappointed. I ordered the grouper nuggets twice, one to eat there, and the other order was for carry out! They were that delicious! As my entrée, I chose the Mahi-mahi fish. It had a good taste, but I should have gotten another order of the grouper nuggets! Lol my husband said his burger was delicious and my friends complimented on their salad. For desert, rave reviews were given about the Keylime pie. Our server was fantastic and so was the atmosphere and environment. FYI, they have a very nice room set for a large party of people. Just make your reservation and enjoy the delicious food. Gordon Ramsey needs to visit this restaurant and help them out. We ate there for dinner tonight (4 of us), and each entree was disappointing. I had to send my crab cakes back, because they were almost like pâté, not light and fluffy like a crab cake should be. You can see and taste where corners have been cut with every dish. The only thing that we all agreed was delicious was the mashed sweet potatoes. Otherwise, the quality is just not there. We have given this place a chance 3 times in the past 6 months, and they have struck out. We won't be coming back again, which is unfortunate, because this place could be a goldmine. From the outside looks average but lunch was really really good! Everyone was so friendly. And, most importantly, ranch dressing is homemade and delicious. Actually all the sauce/dressings were delicious. Complementary bread was excellent, combo of rolls & sticks, and one of the super buttery soft rolls was amazing. I almost asked for some to take home but tried to maintain control. I had the grouper nuggets app with a side salad, combined the two into a lunch salad. The fish was delicious, I know it's not local but it was lightly fried and not over cooked, super tender. The chipotle sauce with it was awesome. The side salad was great too, not just lettuce, but also cheese, almonds and some other stuff to make it interesting. Can get side or full size.
