I just want to say that this Wawa has the stalest chips in the world! (Exaggeration of course). I usually don't get chips but lately when I get a little shorti I like chips with it. So yesterday (1/13) I went into this Wawa location to get a bag of the mesquite bbq (which I love)...get back in the office and most of the dam chips didn't have the mesquite flavor on them. Secondly they were stale as hell!!! Messed up my whole lunch! I tried to salvage what I could from the bag (which was close to nothing because it was filled with air) but since I paid $2.49 for the dam bag I tried to make the best of it. This is your classic Wawa located near Rittenhouse Square. We had just finished a good meal and wanted a quick cup of coffee. Where else to go but Wawa? There was only one person working and he was taking his time doing all the orders. It must be a stressful job doing all the orders when everyone is pushing you to hurry up. We placed our order, picked up our drink, and went on our way. The 16oz iced coffee was okay but it was mostly just ice. I wish there was more there but what can you do? Found it interesting that the signage for this particular Wawa is different than most (no red, done in black/white, all caps) so if you're looking for their regular signs, you'll miss it. On the evening I went, this was a rough one! Perhaps it was the time of day I went (a little after 8p), I counted three security guards throughout the place. This location was the only one that had a broken coffee machine (I just do the whole pour your own french vanilla stuff that cranks out) and this was busted. I asked the guy behind the counter and he apologized but said it wasn't functioning. I ended up getting one of their actual coffee drinks which I don't normally do, and this wasn't too bad. Girl at the register seemed as though she was used to the 'atmosphere' that seemed to be here tonight. I imagine during the workweek, especially in the mornings/lunch rush, it's busy as heck. I shop at the Whole Foods on South St. between 9th and 10th, and every time I walked by the corner of 9th and South, I would be overwhelmed by the fragrance of chocolate! I didn't know why, until last week. The doors on 9th St. were open to the establishment, Popcorn for the People, as I was walking by. I stopped, and asked a woman who appeared to work there, why there was always an aroma of chocolate in the air. She said "Wait here, I'll be right back." She retuned with 3 bags of popcorn - she said they were testing a new brand, that they'll be selling at Wawa, one of which had chocolate in it! She gave me butter, kettle and dark chocolate espresso flavors! I'm a dark chocolate enthusiast, and enjoy a good cup of coffee, so, of course the first bag I opened was the Dark Chocolate Espresso Popcorn. The popcorn is coated with melted expresso infused dark chocolate, joined together to give you a hint of that sweet mocha flavor in every bite. It's addictive. I had to limit how much I had as I didn't want to eat the entire bag at once. It's a good thing I had the other two bags! You probably guessed the next one I opened was the Kettle - it was a perfect blend of sweet and salty popcorn. The last bag was Old School Butter - it was fluffy, with a rich buttery taste! I actually combined them (2 at a time) and enjoyed eating them together. The popcorn in each of the bags was premium and very good. However, one very important piece to this popcorn puzzle I figured out, is that Popcorn for the People was a non profit founded in 2014 to employ individuals with autism and other developmental disabilities. I go to this Wawa often as I work on the same block. As busy as it can be during the lunch rush (especially during the first few weeks of hoagie fest), the staff are very efficient when it comes to preparing food. My only complaint is that the hot foods such as the Sizzlis and cream cheese pretzels are almost always not available when I seek these items. It would also be great if the self-checkout kiosks could redeem the bonus offers on the Wawa app, as waiting in the regular line is not always ideal. read more

Sad to say but my Wawa time is coming to an end; we're down to one in Center City (from at least 5 in the area not long ago), at 1707 Arch, place has always been an 'armpit', but so much worse of late. Assuming management is trying to run it into the ground and then once closed have no presence in the city. Did an order online today, did not include soft pretzels since 50% of the time they are not available once you get there, and once part of a mobile order, charging for them becomes dicey. So, got in line to buy just pretzels, at least 20 people in line at 4:45p, one cashier. After 10 minutes gave up, and went to retrieve the sandwich. It was being prepared, only 5 mins late, had several items 'on the side', asked for a bag, moron (and I'm being very nice) behind the counter said the plastic bags are only for soup, I pointed to the small brown bags behind her, at least 5 of them awaiting pickup, she said they are only for DoorDash. So, DoorDash gets better service than customers who actually come in? Utterly ridiculous. Yes, I'm done with Wawa, and will not be at all surprised once they rightfully leave the city for good... read more

This particular store has gotten worse over the years. before covid, I'd often go here in the mornings at least 3 times a week. now in 2024-25, I'll go only once every few months. they seem to always be out of something and it's just not worth the attitude you get from some of the employees. I have been coming to this location for years and feel fortunate that there is a Wawa near me as I am a Wawa fan. I will also start off by saying that there are some nice and well intended people that work at this location BUT this store just needs to get it together. Every time I go there they are out of the coffee flavors I want, or there is a big advertisement for sizzlis on sale but there are no sizzli's made. You punch in orders on the computer and the staff members don't see the order until you ask them what is going on. The breakfast items are always locked making it look like they don't have bacon or other items but they always do you just have to ask for it. The sandwich counter is always crowded (although they actually control that pretty well), and the space just can't accommodate people roaming the aisles plus waiting for sandwiches plus waiting in line to pay. The plus side is that it is a Wawa a little more north than the other few, although there is one on 19th and Market now. If you know what you're getting and a pro and getting in and out, it shouldn't be that big of a deal, but be wary that people are rude and Wawa brings out a certain kind of beast population that some would call angry sheep but I just call them hangry. In all seriousness, it's nothing I've never experienced at a Wawa before, it's just always a mental battle going in. read more

This is probably the worst WaWa. It's not big enough to handle the crowds. The Lines at the registers can snake around the room, there aren't good places to stand to wait for your sandwich, and napkins are scarce. You are better off going to one of the newer, bigger, WaWas. This location also suffers from WaWas biggest problem. The biggest problem is that they bake their own hoagie rolls in store instead of buying rolls from Amoroso. Amoroso rolls were perfect. The rolls baked in store do not compare even when cooked perfectly. But many times the rolls are overcooked making them even worse. The hoagies are still good, but you can get better ones elsewhere close by and there was a time when you couldn't say that, especially about the tuna hoagie. read more

If there was an award for "Worst Wawa Ever" this location would win 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prize. I have lived nearby for 8 months so I unfortunately still come here for convenience. I have never (and I sincerely mean NEVER. not once) had a fully positive experience here. I grew up in PA so I like Wawa and have tried giving this place so many chances. If I order from the counters, there is always either something missing or wrong with my order. Literally every time. The quality of the other food isn't good either. I just got Buffalo chicken bites, one of my favorites. They are supposed to come with 5 nuggets. There were 4 in the bag and two of them weren't even Buffalo they were regular. Small issues, yes, but there is some quality issue with EVERYTHING I have tried here. I think this is the worst Wawa of all time. I'm not typically a Wawa reviewer but felt a moral obligation to do so with this one because it's just that bad. This Wawa and I have quite a history and I hoped just maybe it improved since my last visit. Nope. Not at all. After checking into my beloved Windsor Suites yet again on a recent SUNDAY night the homeless man opened the door for me as usual. Honestly, Wawa I think you need to hire that dude as he's much more attentive to your customers compared to your sandwich making crew working that shift. Two out of the four people waiting for their hoagies were complaining because they had been waiting for over 25 minutes. Again, it's 9:30pm on a Sunday. Not noon on a Tuesday. I get the wait then but really? On a Sunday night there's no excuse. They were out of the fresh food options so it was either wait 30 minutes for a sandwich, eat a bag of chips, or get a hot pretzel by the register. Not the cleanest Wawa out there, but they almost always have what I need. I like their chicken soup, and the new spicy chicken tortilla soup is pretty good too. I can never get a salad with crasins, they are always out of the damn craisins, so I think they should just take the craisins off the menu, okay? I honestly try to avoid this WaWa at all costs, but it is near impossible working across the street, lol. I always find myself popping in here for something: a fork, salad dressing, the ATM, gum, etc. But each time I leave I remind myself of how much I hate it. I guess a necessary evil? It is just very tiny and with all of the surrounding businesses crowded as hell. I wish I could tell you a time that it's not packed, but I honestly don't think there is. Been coming here a lot since they remodeled and all is well. It's smaller than other Wawas, but has everything a typical Wawa has, minus a gas pump. Lines LOOK crazy here, sometimes reaching to that back of the store. But it moves quick, so don't be intimidated by the crowdedness. And more true for this location than others - it's probably the best bang for the buck in the nearby area for coffee, lunch or just a quick snack. read more

I have always loved Wawa. My parents used to send me there for milk, because apparently, Wawa has the best milk. Now, until I started frequenting this particular location, I lumped all Wawas together, generically, considering all Wawas are created equal. This is just not true. I HATE THIS WAWA. It takes forever for the ladies behind the counter to make a sandwich, but I know a lot about their personal lives, who their brother is dating and what they did the night before. I don't really care about their gossip, I care about my sandwich! Also, they are always out of something, but don't tell you until after you order your food. I might not have gotten a salad had I known there would be no shredded cheese or tomatoes! I think I have mentioned pickles in a couple of my reviews. I love pickles. I could eat pickles for days. So I always ask for pickles on the side, and almost always get an attitude when I check to make sure they've included them. Eye rolls? They're just pickles, but they're important to me! Even when the line is long, there's never much of a wait, but usually the shortis are sloppy, the staff is rude and the store is understocked. There are many other better places to go in the neighborhood. I really dread going to this Wawa. And I guess this is true of many Center City businesses, but there is always someone outside begging for money or asking me to buy them something inside. I hate that crap. read more

How are 7/11s in business in this area when you can go to Wawa! They have great hoagies for anytime of the day. Plus their new foccasia bread is a nice addition if you're craving pizza but don't want to go very far. They have seasonal iced drinks and smoothies that are to die for: try the pumpkin pie latte in the fall! You'll be hooked. I like that you can get fresh salsa or quick snacks, even eggs and milk. The service is quick and friendly. 1 stop shop for anything you need on a whim. The only downside to this location which isn't wawa's fault are the bums that hang around outside.
