Me and my husband visiting from California stumbled upon this club, we tried out two before this one and we were confused on exactly where it was but behind this little red door was a pretty cool spot, it's so low key which I love, no one gave us bad vibes or messed with us, me and my husband stayed to ourselves and had a good time together chillin but the best part was the music, it was 80s night but the music the DJ mixed was so good! 80s vibe is what he gave! Music I haven't heard and then he would throw like whip it somewhere in the mix. Only thing I didn't like was someone vomited on the floor and I accidentally stepped on it, that wasn't cool, but other than that the people were cool and music was great, I just drank beer so not sure on drinks but I'll def miss this place and next time in San Antonio I'll be there hahaha read more

Located on San Pedro, the Wax Club Lounge offers the best in customer service, 80s/90s New Age music and an atmosphere that's for every type of person. Within the first few minutes, we were welcomed by the owner and she engaged in conversation with us. This is the type of bar/club that San Antonio needs more of. You can be you and no one will judge. It's pretty great! We had probably 8-10 drinks between the two of us and it cost around $50. Not bad considering they were well mixed. The owner also owns a DJ company and we have hired her to DJ our wedding. She is truly committed to ensuring everyone has a good time. Great night out! Glad we checked out a great place! read more

This is my favorite rock bar in the area. I am a huge fan of dark weird places where you're surrounded by unique characters and good music, so this is the place. The DJ plays awesome music, the bar tenders are SO friendly, the manager is super personable and comes up and meets everyone. It's a little small, worn, and divey, but it adds to the experience. I've seen a wide range of subcultures here, the cyber goths, Victorians, punks, Lolita's, metal-heads, and just regular door-next-door types. I 100% recommend it and wish I could make it out more often. I only recommend you park in a well lit area and lock your car (the area seems a little rough, but we have had no trouble....except for the midnight fruit guy who told us his life story of betrayal, defeat, a pack of wolves) read more

Last night we had our roller derby 80's party at Wax. Drinks were super cheap and pretty strong. I was drinking vanilla vodka martini's all night at $5.75 a pop. I spent less than $40 at the bar all night and had a really good buzz. Most places charge $8-10 for the drink I was ordering. Usually this bar caters to a lesbian crowd so there were lots of regulars at the bar. Not my cup of tea, but I chatted with one girl for over an hour and it was the best conversation. I could easily hang here on a regular night and not feel like the out of place straight girl. The club is pretty small so it packed up quick, but there was never a wait at the bar. That is a sign of a really good bartender. I also didn't wake up with a hang over this morning so kudos for that too. read more

From the outside this place doesn't look like much, but once you go in, you will be pleasantly surprised. This place is one of San Antonio's hidden gems. The owner Gina is usually there and gives a warm welcome to everyone. The music is a great mix of old and new, the drinks are good, and the people are friendly. I Did not know what to expect after reading the reviews for this little club. But I decided since it doesn't look like anyone has updated in awhile I'll put in my 2cents. Ok, so I only have input on the Friday I went, since I was only visiting SA I don't know what the other nights are like: I'll start off with the parking, there was a very small lot out front but that was already filled up by the time we got there at 9:30. We managed to find a place nearby on the street closest to club, the street was kinda dark but it seemed safe enough. If we had to park any further down the dark street I might'v felt a little sketched out. The club itself is a little small, which works just fine at this place. The dance-floor did get a bit crowded, I hear it usually isn't so packed on a Friday but this night it was wall to wall people by 12am. There were some guest djs playing some great 80s and club classic (yay razormaid!!). The bartenders were nice enough and I met the owner of the establishment so was super sweet.The crowd was mixed. Looked like an older crowd this night. I especially liked the patio,it had a stage back there so I am guessing they have live acts out there sometimes. I am going to say this is a little bit more divey considering the size but it was clean, had a nice restroom but as far as I saw there was only 1 for guys and 1 for girls so there was a line during the peak of the night. No big deal, next time I'm in San Antonio I will definitely be back. read more

I didn't buy any drinks because they were bought for me but it was a cool vibe of late 80's/90s electric/techno vibe, the decor was very punk and it made you feel cool! the owner came up to us and introduced herself, we were there with friends who knew her and we felt really welcomed! This club brings back the nostalgia of my youth. I used to go to Phazez and Changez and dance the night away, and I was sad that there was never a club to replace them. My only regret is that I have not been here sooner. I am already recruiting all my old dancing buddies to meet me here. read more

Excellent music, atmosphere always makes a place and with the ambiance this place leaves, your feet want to keep this place to yourself but you must share with the friends who really love 80's, techno, trance, new wave and goth nights. Was first brought by my beautiful other half. other places that I have been to in comparison are big and always need cover but this place's size does not matter. Always bumping amazing tunes. I love this place! It is the perfect neighbor bar/club. The bartenders are great and friendly, the owner is an amazing hostess, and the club has wonderful character. There's awesome drink specials during the week and I love that they have a fully stocked wine bar. I've been here several times for drum n bass shows, goth shows, American Horror Story showings, and more. Every time I come here I have a great time. I have tried this place several times over a couple of years thinking it was just a bad night, but it has only gotten worse. I have done my research and I want to complain about Katherine Svoi, the bar back? Every time I spend my money here I have an encounter with this lady. On numerous occasions she has bumped through us either on the dance floor or in other areas and rubbed her wet and dirty cleaning towel or trash cans on us. I think it's terrible she takes the trash out the front door during business hours, which is how we were greeted as we arrived on our last visit and were told to get out of the way. On our last visit we noticed the the toilet was clogged and had a huge pile of human waste. This woman was trying to correct the problem and was visibly upset and running back and forth from 2 bathrooms with a dripping plunger. On this night the air conditioning was not working or working well. Other issues I have noticed on multiple occasions have been malfunctioning speakers, or speaker connections, that this woman has rudely told us to get out of the way so she can try to repair. The area location is cool but there is only neighborhood street parking because the few front parking spots are for the employees. Inside the the club is really just an old house or small store front that has speakers and low quality club lights and is very outdated and worn. The biggest problem is that the dance floor is sandwiched between the ENTRY and EXIT and the bar, so you are always in the way. This place is similar to the other house turned club I checked out a couple times called the Thirsty Camel. At WAX, I always seem to have a $60 tab for a few beers so it is expensive. Overall I think they tried to accommodate all of the Club Atomix dislocated patrons and went from a what I thought was an all girls bar to an 80's/ Industrial club. I know it's trying to be underground but it's just not for me. I do prefer the AMP ROOM but that place changes their nights and themes and it isn't consistently 80s. I hope someone that reads this makes corrections. I wish we had a consistent 80s place that was truly underground from the beginning. So far SIN 13, ATOMIX, and SANCTUARY, were the best modern day and legit 80s clubs around because WAX LOUNGE is terrible and I'm done giving it chances and most importantly my dinero. read more

Go here often enough to support my friends play. The crowd is... how do we put it... eclectic. It's definitely got it's own vibe. Mixed drinks depends on the bar tenders. Last time I visited the guys working the bars were great. Got pretty plastered ordering gin and tonic a couple times. Went there last weekend for a foam party. Man, people get kinda kinky crazy when there's foam around. By the end of the evening I was trying to roll a cigarette at the one section of the out door foam area that the foam hasn't encroached and I think i was getting dry humped from behind by a cute girl. What do you do in those circumstances when they hit you? I just kinda went with it and shaked my booty a few seconds. I think she realized what she was doing and left before I can finish rolling that cigarette. Strangest things happen at this place when you hang around for a while. If your looking for an adventure out of the norm, I highly recommend this place. read more
