I Love Wayback burger! For sentimental reasons and for the burgers themselves (and yummy thick milkshakes!) but sadly this location I have to give a lower review. My cheeesy got burnt both sides and the fries were only so/so cooked. I could still taste the amazing cheesy, oily goodness flavor poke through. They weren't busy so it sucks it still didn't come out great hence the stars . However, They were super nice, great service from cashier to pickup side and the environment is clean. read more

Pretty decent burger here at Wayback Burgers. Seems like good quality beef and toppings. We had burgers with just some simple additions like lettuce and grilled onions. A bit on the greasy side but not overwhelming. Sides were some fries, onion rings, mac&cheese bites and some Cajun tots. All pretty ok. The bites were nice and crispy. The fries and tots were a little soggy but still ok. Lastly my Oreo shake was very tasty. Had to pop her in the freeze for a while while she tightened up it was so good after that. Prices are decent and quality is pretty good. Creeping up to be on par with Five Guys in my honest opinion. read more

Who is more surprised by a visit to Jake's Wayback? Mostly the employees! Who wonder "What the hell a customer is doing actually ordering food from them?" LOL Seriously the staff here isn't used to customers. Or Maybe they just hate you because you ordered food and they have to cook and throw it (literally) in a bag of mess. I believe I've been to this Jake's Wayback burger location three times since living in Bristol. Last night, stopped in with the wife, we did the BYOB -- she got a single cheese w/ mayo, ketchup, lettuce, & tomato. Mine was a double with pepperjack cheese, mushrooms and chipotle mayo. We shared a side of fries, and my wife ordered a strawberry milkshake. I've read a lot of bad reviews here on Yelp for Jake's Wayback Burgers in Bristol, but to be fair, we felt that everything we had last night was alright, decent tasting. My wife did feel her milkshake was thin, but it still had good flavor. Fries, burgers were OK. Total $ is a bit on the expensive side, to be honest. Crew working there were all friendly. Since we only live 4 miles away, I'm sure we'll stop back in again if we had a hankering for a burger. read more

Okay, I've been hitting up this chain for years--so this review is for this location, and given proximity, you'll see a lot of comparisons to 5Guys, because they are in the same realm of slightly upstepped fast casual burger joints (you could pile Smashburger, Shake Shack, and many other places into that basket, but as I said, proximity.) 1) Burgers. I tend to give Wayback a slight edge over 5Guys there--less greasy. They are a solid fast casual burger with many options. 2) Fries. Skip them. Seriously. They aren't good. 5Guys kick the living crap out of them. Then again, 5Guys have the best fries around. But these are particularly not great. Our 14 year old won't even eat them. This is a huge reason for the three rather than a 4. 3) Other sides. These tend to be really good! They have yummy onion rings and their house made chips are delicious and inexpensive. Definitely do one of those instead of fries. 4) Shakes. Theirs are reaaaaallly good. They're also reaaaaallly expensive for the size, which means I rarely order them. I feel like you should get almost twice the shake for the price tag, and since I've been to locations where you get the extra half in a silver cup when you eat in, that may be the case. If their shakes were more reasonably priced, or bigger for the price, this would, again, bump up the stars. Overall, Jake's is a decent place to get a decent burger, decent sides, and small, but tasty shakes. Just skip the fries, and realize it WILL put a dent in your wallet. read more

Food is very good here. Milkshakes are amazing. Pricing is average. Burgers are flavorful. Tenders are average. They had a cod sandwich which had good texture and flavor. Wayback tator tots are the best in the game. On a side note, when it's busy the staff is working their off to get your order out ASAP. They work very hard especially the kids working there. I was kind of apprehensive to visit Wayback Burger as I've noticed it is always empty inside and the prices are a little on the high side. I saw the $6.99 lunch special signs lately, they're in walking distance from my house, and my car happens to be in the shop right now, so out of all the little lunch joints in the plaza my son and I settled on Jake's. I'm pretty glad we did. The store was empty as usual and there was a manager on lunch (Tuck your shirt in!) plus 2 other employees- the perfect amount of people for the volume of customers. The cashier wasn't exceptional but nice enough, and he made some tasty milkshakes. The oreo mudpie was fabulous. I thought they used to come with the metal cup so you get the extra good stuff, but ours came in chintzy kid size cups. They were delicious but way too small for $3.59/junior serving. It was close to $5 for a regular serving and I refused to spend $10 for 2 of them, so I got the junior size. It really was a tease of a shake, but regardless, it was spot on taste wise. The food took quite a while to prepare, considering there were no other orders before or after mine. But, let me tell you- it was worth every second of that approx.15 minute wait. Our food came out steaming hot. I have never gotten food so fresh and hot from a restaurant. That's usually a problem I only have when I cook my own meals! My philly burger looked picture perfect, with cheese goo oozing down the sides all over the plentiful mushrooms and onions. My son's chicken tenders were also steaming hot. read more

I'm not really sure what possessed me to stop here. I hadn't been in years and I thought it's right on the way home and I'm hungry. Big mistake! The girl who took my order never even looked at me during the whole transaction and seemed about as miserable as you can be. It was uncomfortable. I ordered a fish sandwich because I was in the mood for it once I saw it in the menu. I made it a meal with fries and a drink. $11.00 that I will never get back... As I waited for my food, I overhear one girl on the grill say to another girl on the grill "how much longer on the cod fillet?" With the following response "I don't know, what's the temperature supposed to be, I forget. 165?" Hearing this made me quite nervous. So I get home and take a few bites praying it was cooked through. I hit a mushy part and just stopped as I was too scared to risk it. The fries tasted old and burnt without any salt. One star for the coke because that's the only thing that tasted correct. read more

Jake's falls at an odd place for me in the "burger restaurant" spectrum - it's better than most fast food chains, but falls a notch below the fast-casual places in the area such as Five Guys. What I do like is the amount of options available for their burgers and milkshakes. What I don't like is that I've been neither satisfied nor dissatisfied with anything I've gotten there before; everything I can remember eating has been firmly middle of the road. The problem with middle of the road with a place like Jake's is the price you pay and amount of time you have to wait for your order. If Jake's burger quality were at a place like a Burger King or McDonald's, where you pay next to nothing and don't have to wait long, you would have a great value. However, you pay about same amount of money and wait roughly as long as you would at a place like Five Guys, and the quality just doesn't seem up to par with them (at least in my experiences). The milkshakes are something they highlight, and rightly so. The hand-dipped shakes are pretty good and they come in an abundant amount of flavors for a non-ice cream joint. My last time there, I ordered a burger, fries, and shake, and had to go up to the counter and ask for the shake after about 20 minutes went by - they simply forgot about it. Also, my girlfriend refuses to go there anymore because she claims that they had messed up a couple of her orders. Those two issues could be from a number of different things, but they can easily happen anywhere. Overall, it's not the best or worst place in the area. But for the price you pay and the amount of time you have to wait for your food, I'd like a little more in terms of quality. read more

First, the bacon burger was passable, the only complaint I have- the bacon WAS a little weak. Chicken tenders were enjoyable until we found baked-in hair ( see picture below )... YUM! The 0-fries were diminutive. I got 4 rings for $3.40- hard to find value there. The regular fries were completely unimpressive naked, perhaps the dipping sauce would have helped had we actually received them. The chicken BLT, for seven dollars, should have had something other than a hamburger bun flipped upside down. The milkshakes receive a passing grade, but they were frozen. Might be my last visit. No craftsmanship here. $65 for McDonalds? I will wave back as I pass on this place. read more

I can honestly say I have NEVER had a more disgusting veggie burger in my life. Given that they are a burger restaurant & expensive, (for what I consider fast food) one would expect at least something edible but even that was expecting too much. It literally was made from rice, mushrooms & god knows what else. Tasteless, dry & the texture was absolutely dreadful. Just got home from my first visit to Jakes and I was underwhelmed. Burger seemed cold and thin and bun looked toasted but was soft and mushy. Don't know how they did that. Went in on a weekday, early afternoon. There were only two people working here and it seemed they were stretched pretty thin. The burger was nothing to write home about. As another reviewer has noted, there is no sear on the outside to give it a nice textural contrast. I did like however, that they had an extensive selection of toppings to choose from. The fries were also not spectacular. When my burger and fries were delivered to my table, I mentioned that I had also ordered a shake, since it was not also delivered. My server abruptly told me that someone else makes and delivers those and walked away. They really need to work on coordinating delivery of the entire meal at one time. I was halfway through my burger when the shake finally showed up. It was great, the reason why this place gets two stars and not just one. For a burger and fries in this price range, I'll go three miles east to Five Guys. But I may stop back here sometime for another shake. read more

Have been to this restaurant several times and have always had a great experience. I don't think that there is much on the menu that my family hasn't tried, and they loved it all. While the burgers are very good I only gave th is establishment 2 stars because I have been 3 times and IT IS ALWAYS FREEZING IN THERE! We were very hungry, so the burgers tasted great. They don't use pre-made patties, which we thought was a novel idea. EVERYBODY uses pre-made patties, so this is how they differentiated themselves. I've gotta tell ya, it worked! The ground beef is shaped individually then pressed onto the grill for quick cooking. Mmmmm! The french fries and the onion rings tasted 'fishy' for some strange reason???...Strange, since we didn't see fish on the menu. The interior was clean and the theme of the decor, of course, was yesteryear 50's-60's-70's-80's....High stools and tables gave a pop-shop feel. Wait staff was friendly. The tee shirt uniforms were uninspired. Would have liked to have seen a more buttoned-down look. Loved that they used round plate-sized trays lined with wax paper to serve. Very little garbage generated this way. Didn't like the shakes at all. Way too sweet (I like mine creamy). The cookie crumbs in the Mudslide flavor made it hard to sip through the straw, which kept clogging. Overall a nice meal, but not one I would go out of my way for. read more

We have held several fundraisers for our children's schools at Jakes. The owner has always been very gracious and accommodating. My son chose Jakes for his 8th grade graduation dinner. We have a large family and I was a little concerned about all of us sitting together. We talked to the owner about our little party. They went above and beyond! They put together a section of the restaurant for us with long tables and table clothes. They put up decorations and centerpieces with a graduation theme. They printed up signs that were up through out the restaurant congratulating our son. It was amazing. The food, as always, was good, fresh and hot. All of our guests remarked at how great the staff was. Everyone loved the shakes too. All I can say is that it's a class act. Thank you owners and staff for making my son's graduation dinner memorable. Everyone enjoyed themselves and the food. read more

Tried Jake's for the second time and the word that springs to mind is underwhelming. First time I tried the Cheesy Burger. 2 patties with 4 slices of cheese on a grilled and buttered roll and this time I tried the burger of the month which was a Brisket Burger. The beef is fresh and not frozen but lacks any crust on the outside of the burger as opposed to 5 Guys Burgers and Fries (their most similar competitor) probably because they keep their grill temperature too low to get any carmelization or searing going. The Cheesy burger was fine but nothing special and the Brisket Burger was not what I expected. When I hear Brisket Burger I have images of a beef patty made of ground brisket not their regular burger with a piece of brisket on top. It was fine. A slight hint of smokiness to the brisket and a nice soft bun were pluses as was the quality of the beef patties but there is just no wow factor. I should also mention that when I walked in to the store I was the only one there but for some reason my burger was just under 15 minutes from grill to table. I understand that this is not fast food but 15 minutes is excessive and perhaps further evidence that they need to boost the temperature of that grill. It's unlikely that I will return to Jake's as there are better options close by. I also wonder given the lack of traffic I've seen in that Jake's location whether or not they will be able to survive for very long. read more

Ordered delivery through Grubhub. Our chicken tenders arrived burnt and disgusting. Irish Nachos arrived with no toppings. The restaurant is claiming they had put the toppings on the side because I requested no onions. However the only sides I received were jalapenos and some sort of bbq tasting sauce. I contacted Grubhub customer service the night I received the order. I was asked for a photo which I provided. After following up with the restaurant I was informed management at Wayback Burgers refused to give me a refund for the topping less Irish nachos and for their 2.99 delivery fee. You would think as a courtesy for delivering burnt chicken tenders they would refund the delivery fee and topping less nachos. Horrible. If you guys google or yelp other Wayback locations and compare the chicken tenders I received to what its suppose to look like it's comical. This is one of the worst restaraunts I've ever been too. The wait was ridiculous. They gave us our milkshakes first and by the time we got our meals our milkshakes were melted. The fries and the burgers we got were ice cold. The onions rings were gross. They tasted and felt like they were frozen. The food is soooooo over priced for what you actually get. A BBQ burger, small fry, and a regular milkshake was close to $15. I would rather have gone to macdonalds or Wendy's where I could've gotten better food for half the price. This review is strictly based on the food alone. Although service was good they were friendly, quick and even bring the food to your table. Service in these kind of restaurants is hit or miss. I had the Cheeeesy Burger 2 patties 4 slices of cheese on a grilled bun. Now you can have a number of free toppings but I really wanted to taste the quality of the burger. It far surpassed my expectations. I have had Five Guys Burgers many times they make an above average burger but nothing like Jake's. It was the freshest tasting perfectly cooked burger I have ever tasted. And I have swallowed a lot of burgers in my time. Burger was $6.29 no fries but worth every penny considering what fast food places charge for their deluxe burgers. The fries did look really tasty though. My Daughter had Double Bacon Jake 2 patties 4 strips of bacon and a slice of cheese topped Jake's way (Ketchup, Pickles, Mustard, Onions, Tomato, & Lettuce. Awesome she let me have a bite. $7.29. She also got a mint milkshake $3.29 best mint shake ever. You can get Chili, Bacon, or Buffalo Sauce on anything for an additional charge. They also have yummy looking Hot Dogs, Onion Rings, Turkey, Chicken & Veggie Burgers and a Fish Sandwich.
