    Lunch on the patio!
    Tiffany G.

I don't even go out for burgers often, but this is a spot that I have loved every single time I've gone! Whether I've ordered a burger or chicken sandwich or a Philly cheesesteak or corned beef special (around Saint Paddy's Day), they have all been moist, juicy and phenomenal! The place is small and whenever we are there during nice weather, we sit out on the patio, service is always good and the owner is friendly. I keep an eye on their Instagram to see what the specials are because sometimes there's just one that I see that I have to try. They've won awards and I love supporting this Newington staple! I am also a sweet potato fry lover, so it makes me happy that they have them! But if onion rings are regular fries are your jam, then they've got those for you, too!

My son and I went to the DMV and wanted something to eat in the area. I had Goldburgers in my bookmarks for a place to visit, so we decided to check them out. We entered the establishment and were immediately greeted by the owner, Matt. He was very friendly and told us about the menu. My son and I ordered the Double Goldburger, which consisted of Lettuce, Onions, Pickles, American Cheese, Potato Chips, and Goldburger's Sauce on a seeded bun. We also ordered a small fully loaded French Fries that consisted of Nacho Cheese, Bacon, Jalapeno, and Sour Cream. The burgers were delicious and juicy. As we bit into our burgers, the juices flowed out. The burger was seasoned well, and the Potato Chips gave the burger a nice texture. The sauce was very flavorful and took the burger to another level. The French Fries were okay. It was small, and my son and I shared the fries, so a small is good enough for two people. In my opinion, the French Fries had too much Nacho Cheese, making them a bit soggy, but the food was delicious. The customer service was excellent and the owner was very friendly. I would definitely come back.

When you convince your parents to get you McDonald's, they'll most likely tell you that "we have Mickey D's at home!". If you want fresh and really good Mickey D's, then try Goldburgers. Trust me, it is a solid choice over super-sized fast food for their good quality hamburger. I went here myself for the first time last Friday and let me tell you here... It is almost like fast food but it indeed is quick-service and for only a "thrifty" price, you can build in / customize a hamburger the way you want. Want pickles? They're really good. Want chips in your hamburger? Yes, they do put potato chips on your hamburger patty. Seriously, they actually do that. May seem odd to some but that's the way I like it. I had a Bacon Cheeseburger with pickles and potato chips on that sandwich and it actually was really good. Although not enough seating inside, there were plenty of outdoor seating during that beautiful Friday evening. Jill (waitress) is a wonderful lady who took time to provide us food and customer service. What a pleasant experience. I'd rather patronize this restaurant over fast food any day. Now that's fresh and really good McDonald's hamburgers that you would expect at this restaurant.

(Last visited March 9, 2025.) GoldBurgers is everything you want a straightforward burger place to be! Here's why GoldBurgers is one of my favorite burger places in existence! Atmosphere/Appearance: Located right on Main Street in "downtown" Newington is this gem worthy of the name! There's parking spots along the front of the place, some more further down in front of other places and of course the big parking lot behind the spot. Once inside it's pretty straightforward. There are some tables right up against the window then there's the counter where you order. After that it's all tables and stuff. It felt like a nice, family-friendly atmosphere. Service: There isn't table service so you just order at the counter and the food gets brought out to you, no big deal. Easy-peasy. It fits with the esthetic of the restaurant and works well. Food: I've had quite a few things from GoldBurgers and they're ALL delicious. Above the counter is the vast menu with all of the options from juicy burgers, chicken burgers, falafels, hot dogs, sweet potato fries and the like. However, at eye-level there's a chalk board where the specials are! That's what you want! Those specials constantly rotate and they're all based off of movies! My latest acquisition was an incredibly spicy chicken cheesesteak based off the movie Hoosiers! So freaking good, filling and just hit the spot! I've had double-burgers here that had potato chips on it, chicken burgers and this place just does not miss! Value: It feels like an old-school burger joint so you won't pay more than $13.00 for a burger, but they don't come with a side. They're all separate, but you can make a combo out of almost anything. Super affordable food. In conclusion, I feel guilty for not coming here more often! Lol. That's it. I wish I did, but I will make an effort to come on in regularly!

A good juicy double-decker burger that is well seasoned and plenty of options for toppings one quibble is that the buns should be toasted a bit to make them even better. Waffle, fries and onion rings were perfectly fried A good quick option for under $20

Bucket list place, April 27, 2025

GoldBurgers had been on my food bucket list for way too long. Yesterday, I finally scratched the itch, and it was soooo worth it. Small head-in parking in front, but also spots in the rear. Seemed like more tables outside (7 wrought iron) than inside (less than seven). Extensive selection of burgers, hot dogs, chicken, etc, with interesting daily specials. And they feature CT-made Hosmer soda, fountain style! I opted for the mushroom steakhouse burger for 2 reasons. Yelp friend Jason P raved about it in several of his reviews AND my doctor wants me to eat more veggies, and this choice features BOTH mushrooms and onion straws. As an added bonus, I also used ketchup liberally on my hand-cut fries (ketchup counts as a vegetable in some school systems). The MSB was Dagwood-size. It was delicious. The fries (another veggie) were fresh, perfectly cooked, with a slight crustiness on the outside, and melt-in-your-mouth texture inside. In my Fries Hall of Fame. Also had a chili dog which was very good, although the MSB and fries stole the show. Overall, many of my Yelp friends rated them as 5 (Jason P, Elisa F, Tricia B, Des D, Dawn H, and Emily C) with two Yelp friends rating them as 4 (Tom D and Kara, who got a ROTD whoop whoop). I give them a solid 5. Service excellent, and wait time decent. One thing... their on-line prices do not reflect their actual prices. I would love to bring fellow foodie and best friend, Locomotive Breath next time as long as he promises not to use a knife and fork.

Had to come try GoldBurgers with my dad and thought my burger was really good. They gave a ton of fries too, which I enjoyed. My only complaint was how FREEZING it was while we ate in the restaurant. I was shivering the entire time!! Service was good otherwise. I'd come back.

These were some of the best burgers me and my boyfriend have had! The fries were also delicious . Friendly service and chill atmosphere:)

Went to Gold Burger since I heard about this place. Went it and it was a small place. The selection was decent. I ordered the mushroom burger and my husband ordered a normal burger with egg. The order came out pretty quick. We had also ordered some onion rings and waffle fries. The mushroom burger was very juicy and flavorful. The onion rings were on point. It was a good choice for us to come and try the place. Will come again.

A burger dive staple. Good, fresh, reasonably priced, and big This use to be a go-to spot for me for a burger on the trek home. The place hasn't changed much, but the quality has stayed as well. This resent outing, got a steakhous, Hrt, and the tso-ly loaded fries. Food came out quick, and we dove in. Just as good as my memories, seasoned patties nice and thick, juicy and topped with tons of mushrooms, cheese, and frizzles. The fries hand cut and perfectly fried. The loaded fries had these fried broccoli pieces which were surprisingly tender and the tops were very crispy. The jar dog was a very high quality dog, split and grilled with a nice grilled bun and ample amounts of pickled toppings. The Mac and cheese square was not great, not enough cheese. But we were easily full after the rest of the food. This place is not much of a looker. But the food is really good, the price is reasonable for the quality, and the staff are nice. If you get a chance to come here, then please do. It's worth the trek

Really good burger joint with burgers, sliders, dogs, fries, and rings, all solid to excellent. Burger: Went with the Honey BBQ, hold the honey and BBQ, because the rest of the toppings--bacon, American, and onions--were my go-to items. Double patties, cooked to medium rare by default, but not sacrificing any juiciness. Service had decent crusting. Good flavor to the meat, which was a noticeably higher grade than what you get at most places. Bacon wasn't thick, but it was tasty. The seeded roll (probably Big Marty) was fresh. Very solid execution. Fries: Wow. Wow wow wow. I thought I was being brilliant by ordering a kids veggie burger on the side, mostly because it would get me the fries in a smaller amount, but with a veggie burger to try too. These fries were absolutely perfect in every aspect, from the skin on to the crispness of the outside to the give on the inside. Perfect salting, perfect texture. I wish I had a whole order. Veggie Burger: My wife is vegetarian so I was doing some scouting, getting the kid size. Black bean and chickpea patty, a little mushy like most, but surprisingly tasty. Onion Rings: Good if you like the thick kind with a near corn dog batter. Definitely crispy. Frizzies: These are very thin, very crisp onion strings that come in some of the burgers, but if you know to ask for them, you can get them as a side. So we got those too, and they were very good. New England Dog: Solid rendition, split, mild, with mild chili on a potato bun. No complaints, but I think I'd get a second burger over getting a burger and a dog. Quick service. Small space. More parking in the back than out front. A place worth returning to for sure.

Great local joint!! Totally a dive - but amazing food. Staff was friendly and attentive. Not the most comfortable seating, but it was a gorgeous day outside and they had cute sidewalk tables and chairs. But there are minimal tables and chairs inside as well. Overall a great affordable delicious hotdog and burger joint. The hotdog (forgot to take a picture) was probably the best hotdog I have had in a while. Well done!!

Megalopolis special: sausage patty, added Mac patty, and more!
    Steve A.

I sat on my review for a bit and let the delicious juices stew inside me. GoldBurgers is a local store with a devout local following, and more importantly, mac patties! The rundown: A long, narrow, well kept place, not a lot of inside seating but the 3 of us grabbed a table and were served as the food was ready. Friendly service but basically walk up and order your dish. Feel free to add anything you want to your burger! Extremely customizable. I went with the Megalopolis special, featuring a house made sausage patty, and added the mac patty because mac patty. As I looked at my friends' dishes, the onion rings are small and densely breaded - not my style. The fries looked a little greasy but I tried one and it was cooked and salted to perfection. Not greasy, some skin on - 5 stars for that. My burger? The chorizo chili was a nice add. The jalapeno came through, the queso was fresh like it ought to be (not a lot of flavor, but that's queso). All in all, a strong 4 stars. I like that their beef burgers are ground fresh daily (at least in 2012, hopefully still). Next time I'm up this way I'll stop in and try building my own burger from scratch. See where that goes and if star number 5 arrives!

Are the veggie burgers/buns vegan? Thanks :)

GoldBurgers uses Martin's Potato and their seeded buns which contain milk solids. The veggie burgers contain Panko which also contain milk solids. Hope this helps.

Crispy on the outside, packed with well-seasoned chicken inside. Good spice, not overpowering. Came with a salsa and a ketchup-mayo style sauce, both worked, but the salsa had a little more life to it. Before that, warm ciabatta hit the table with a house-made dipping sauce. Oil-based with garlic, blue cheese, and a few other layers going on. The blue cheese gave it a subtle kick without taking over. Nice way to start. Now to the burger, the Luger Burger. I'm assuming it's a nod to the classic steakhouse, but didn't get full confirmation. The sauce is made in-house: slightly sweet, a little acidic (I picked up balsamic), smooth texture. It's a good sauce, it just needed a bigger voice on this burger. The burger itself is large. And I mean large. Menu said thick-cut bacon... that wasn't the case. Not a dealbreaker, but noticeable. Now I'm going to get a little critical, because this is where it matters. The burger needed more salt. There's a lot of beef here, and it can absolutely handle it. Even something as simple as salting the tomato would've helped bring things together. If the bacon had actually been thick-cut, that alone might've bridged the gap. This was a very beef-forward burger, to the point where the supporting flavors barely showed up. The patty felt a bit too tightly packed, which gave it a denser bite and let the beef dominate the whole experience. A looser grind or lighter hand forming it would've made it more tender and allowed everything else to come through. It also needed more acid. The Luger sauce was applied lightly, so either lean into it more or bring in something else, a pickle, a sharper onion, something to cut through the richness and balance it out. The bun was soft, nicely toasted, and held up well, which isn't easy with a burger this size. Fries were hand-cut, properly salted, and exactly what you want. No complaints there. Overall, this is a great spot. Clean, comfortable, nicely decorated. Staff was excellent. Food was good, with flashes of being really good. With a few small tweaks, mainly balance and execution on the burger, this could easily jump to the next level.

It wouldn't surprise me if she is an owner too. It's hard to find people, who aren't owners, who are that committed. I asked for a wing flavor recommendation and she said "Montreal Honey" first. I ordered 6. The wings are part-baked and then finished in a fryer. Good inner and outer texture. The Montreal Seasoning was right on. The Honey didn't have much of a presence either visually or flavor-wise. More was needed to balance the salt from the Montreal Seasoning and to justify the Honey in the name. I tried both the Blue Cheese and the Ranch. I'd recommend the Blue Cheese. I'll definitely return to try more wing flavors. I also ordered a crock of chili, which was full of ground beef and topped with melted cheddar and chopped red onions. The chili was solid.
