Food good but 35 minutes asking twice for a milkshake is totally insane. Female worker was rude.

Sadly for a chain restaurant that usually offers very good quality for fast service style food. Unfortunately this location has suffered since being taken over by the new owner not only is it visible in the overall quality that has declined severely, quality or food has declined l massively as well as the customer service. Last time I was in there I overheard the owner and the conversation that took place which was absolutely a palling not only towards the staff but about financial problems that need to be resolved by way of cutting back on quality of food to the point where no one wants to be responsible for serving food in such poor quality not to mention be the one paying that much for small reheated food. Sad really because the staff actually really are the only reason the place stays going. And it was so clear that the owner has no intentions of anything other than spending as little as possible to make the most the can. Sadly under the new ownership of someone that has no knowledge in the food industry nor any integrity in terms of quality standards, will not be returning since recently finding out that the good staff members that had worked at this location for a very long time, no longer are there due to this extremely bad ownership in which this location currently has. I would recommend the Wayback franchise to anyone in any location but this one sadly can only hope new ownership for a place again soon.. seems to be inevitable at this rate. Luckily there's a location in West Grove that is very good and run like how most Wayback 's are supposed to. Even with gas prices being as high as they are I would much rather drive the 20 minute extra distance to the other location rather than endure the horrible direction set fourth currently with the new owner. read more

This reminds me of a fast food version of Red Robin. The food is good (I like the Chicken Caesar Salad) and the employees have always been nice. read more

This place used to have awesome burgers and be so clean and good. Tonight we ordered online to pick up. The order was incorrect and a blank stare was the response when I asked questions about it. The restaurant had only half of the lights on and there were stacked boxes everywhere. The burgers we ordered were over cooked and like jerky instead of beef. The fries were not salted and also quite dry. Sadly, this place is so close to UD campus and in the heart of a college apartment complex. Would NOT recommend. read more

Last two times I went to the restaurant, I was sickened by the inappropriate behavior of the manager and workers. Rap music(don't get me wrong I love rap music) playing so loud you can't place an order, that was a while ago. Last night, I chose to give them business and we were greatly disappointed. Ordered 4 classic burgers, four fries and 2 milkshakes. Ketchup on the side. We ordered from @Eatstreets.com. Driver shows up swinging my, very light, cold bag of food. Ketchup was in a cup and spilled all over inside of bag. No receipts showing total or how much I tipped. After I checked the food to my total online...my 2 shakes, 2 burgers, 3 FRIES and both milkshakes were missing. Driver said, "yeah they been doing that" I told him to take it back and he beligerantly refused. Then after 3 requests he refused to leave my property. According to my neighbors, he actually paced around in the street in a threatening type manner talking and cursing loudly on the phone. I almost physically had to remove him. My kids went hungry! note: I did not know he was in the street pacing and cursing. I was in trying to contact Jakes Wayback burgers. Or I would have called the Newark Police. I was eating my burger alone in my kitchen when within 4 minutes I had already swallowed it all and then without hesitation said "WOW" ... a few minutes later my roommates came out of their room and said "did u just devour that burger and say wow?" ... that was my wayback experience read more

Chili dogs were great, but service is unbelievably SLOW! I don't get it. Been here a number of times and its never gotten better. The wayback in Kennett Square is terrific, but thus place is the worst. I'm done. read more

Absolutely ZERO concept of customer service. Delivery order placed through GrubHub, the website says the restauraunt handles deliveries. An hour and a half goes by, and no food or contact or anything (estimated 30-45 minutes delivery). Call the restaurant, and they say GrubHub handles the deliveries, and that my order "isn't there so it must have been picked up." Contact GrubHub, who is unable to reach anyone at the store. Decent enough burgers, but no way to treat customers. read more

I went in to order 2 milkshakes to-go and I ended up waiting over 15 minutes. The lady making our milkshakes seemed very inexperienced. She had no idea how to operate the machinery involved in making the milkshakes. She constantly asked other employees questions and even talking about private conversations with them un-work related. She used the same mixer for all different types of milkshakes making my cookies and cream milkshake have banana, cinnamon, and other flavors in it. The milkshake itself was pretty bad in terms of milkshakes. I don't think I've had a worse milkshake in my life. The 15 minute wait for a simple order combined with a terrible taste, I know I will not come back to this specific store and I would advice others to steer clear as well. read more

I had really high expectations for this place. If you plan on working here DO NOT apply. They will give you the option for direct deposit but you will never receive your money. Also they will give you the run around when asking about your pay and the next check. The managers are cool but this job does that have any stability nor organization. This job will leave you tired and on top of that you will be missing pay from your check. its just a lot of red flags so I had to get out fast. read more

Very friendly staff and good burgers and shakes. However the institution seems to be disfunctional. We placed an online order that included shakes and paid for it but when we went to pick it up they could not make the shakes and claimed that they could not reimburse us and we would need to contact their headquarters for a reimbursement. We contacted them and they never got back to us. This is unacceptable and not the way you run an honest business. read more

Waited 40 min for my burger after I watched three people get theirs first. Then I asked if mine was ready and I was told they called my name (while I'm sitting directly next to the counter in a quiet restaurant). When I explained he did not because I'm sitting right next to where the orders are called he argued with me again and then tried to hand me a cold burger. Got a refund and left. Terrible customer service, out of town on business and loved wayback from where im from. But this place is absolutely terrible. Took over an our to deliver, gave rude remakes when called to ask where my delivery was. My food was cold when arrived and milkshake was completely liquid. Burgers are good. On par or better than Five Guys, Smashburger, etc. However, they only have Pepsi products. That's a major downer.

Mac and Cheese bites are amazing!! Like a mini cheesy cheesy grilled cheese. Love love love the plain vanilla shakes. Also had a chipotle burger which hit it out of the park! Could tell it was fresh and the spicy toppings were perfect. Well worth the price and the wait for my cooked to order meal. read more

I am shocked to see such terrible reviews for this establishment. I am from California and was craving a cheeseburger and a milkshake! I accidently ended up here and let me just tell you - it was DELICIOUS!! The staff was extremely friendly and everybody had a smile on their face! It was refreshing - usually you walk into a restaurant and employees look miserable. The restrooms were extremely clean which is always a plus (nothing worse than a skanky bathroom)! I can't think of one complaint; other than I can't go back every weekend! Please don't let the poor reviews scare you away...you will be missing out! read more

Embarrassing Customer Service. After forgetting my milkshake for two consecutive deliveries, I decided, next time, to place an order for pick up. While in there I politely explained the situation and asked the manager if they would be willing to comp my milkshake. Keep in mind this is after losing $10 on the two that I paid for and did not receive. I was told "absolutely not" because I "did not have proof". The workers at this location are incompetent. Don't order food for take out or visit this restaurant. Our order was wrong. When I called for a refund for the food we didn't get, they accused us of lying. Top notch people to go with top notch burgers! While I enjoyed my delicious rodeo burger I noticed the staff were enjoying themselves laughing with each other and engaging with the customer at the same time, effortlessly making conversation with every customer coming and going. If I could've given NO STARS i would have! I pre ordered my lunch at 9:30am. I came on time. I opened the bag and there was Mayo and Ranch spilled all over the bag. I called and the manager was very nice and apologetic. Offered to send out a new order immediately. Well before the new order came my co worker who also ordered with us said never mind because by the time the new order arrived our lunch would be over. The manager didn't mind but the driver had an attitude as if it was our fault that lunch came totally disgusting. Fast forward to the new order. On my Burger i specifically put in CAPITALS "No Mustard" Im highly allergic and dont even go near it. Well the new burger had a shit load of Mustard. I yet again called and let the manager no and he did apologize and let me know that it was his mistake but im still mad as hell and still hungry!!! This is probably why there all closing down now. WOW! DON'T EVER ORDER TAKE OUT FROM THIS LOCATION.If you do decide to order take out after reading this review or a couple of others below, make sure you check your bag BEFORE YOU PAY OR LEAVE THE LOCATION. Here was my recent experience, I recently placed a take out ordered on a summer evening around 5:30pm... no big deal a couple of burgers and some sides including french fries. When I arrived to pick up my food, there was absolutely no one in the place so it was not an issue of them being too busy to get my order correct. My food was in a bag sealed up with a 'Jake's' sticker and my receipt attached so I did not check inside the bag. I foolishly assumed that the 3 people working at the time would get my order correct. When I arrived home with the food, a large french fry I ordered was not in the bag. I called the restaurant and explained that I did not get the french fries that I had paid for but they insisted that they had packed the fries in the bag with the rest of the food. I told them they did not and I would return to pick them up. When I arrived they DID NOT have french fries waiting for me and instead continued to maintain that they had given me the fries in the bag. It is at this point that I began to get upset, incensed that they would accuse me of trying to scam them out of french fries that I had paid for. I ended up arguing with the jerk behind the counter for a few minutes as he assured me he was the one who packed my order and insisted that the french fries were in the bag. I asked for the manager at the location and it turns out the jerk I was arguing with was the manager. He proceeded to call me a liar and tell me that "I should show him more respect". I assured him that I would not be leaving without the french fries I paid for. He continued with the worst attitude I have ever seen for someone working directly with customers, even mocking me at one point (this last straw almost got the guy pulled across the counter and punched in the face!) If I were the owner of this location, the "manager" would be IMMEDIATELY FIRED!!! I WILL NEVER ORDER FROM THIS LOCATION AGAIN!! If you have a craving for burgers in Newark, DO NOT GO HERE, I recommend Red Robin or the Jakes on Ogletown Road, they pay alot more attention to getting things right and customer service. read more
