After moving to the area, two neighbors mentioned they had used Wayne's, which was extremely convenient as it was only a few blocks away. I needed my brakes done before heading out for the thanksgiving holiday and they were able to fit me in the day before thanksgiving. I was excited to have a worry-free car before I hit the road. That is not what I got. Brake work turned into a quote for well over $3000. I was told I needed new rear struts and new tires because the suspension was wearing them down and they could "blow at any time." It was a safety issue they said. Over and over. Safety. When I questioned the quote, Mike rolled his eyes at me and told me he's been doing this for years. His tone was condescending and I felt gaslit into a corner. "Have you noticed a low roar when driving on the highway? Do you see these grey lines on the tires from where it's rubbing?" The answers were no but I was set to leave on a long trip the next day and I had to make a call. I chose to do everything but the struts, knocking the bill down by a grand but still blowing up my credit card debt regardless. Because safety, right? I drove around the block after picking it up and while there was still some squeaking, I chalked it up to recent work. It wasn't until I was on the freeway headed out for the holiday that I saw my hood flapping. They had neglected to check the latch. I pulled over but couldn't get it closed and it was a holiday so no one was open. I rigged a system to keep it shut during the drive and took it to a local shop once I arrived. They cleaned some gunk out that was preventing the latch from engaging and closed it no problem. No charge. When I got back to Philly I sent Wayne's an email describing my experience complete with pictures. I requested an email response so as to maintain records and so as not to have to have a phone discussion with Mike - I try to avoid gaslit conversations with folks steeped in toxic masculinity. Of course I received a phone message in response. From Mike. No direct apology or responsibility taken. This happened three times before I gave up and called it a loss. Since this time, I've taken my Subaru into the Subaru service station twice for full inspections. Still no strut work needed. Probably didn't need those tires either. I've since found out that the two folks who had suggested Wayne's also had a great deal of extra work recommended - for safety, of course. So, if you want to be conned into expensive and unnecessary work while being gaslit into thinking they care about your safety even while they literally leave your car in a condition that could kill you, go to Wayne's

Quoted me an absolutely absurd price for an oil change, something like $100. Walked out and have never been tempted to return.

While their labor cost is on the higher end of the spectrum, as other reviewers have pointed out, their quality work is worth it, and they have an 18 month/18k mile warranty on all parts and labor.

Extremely Disappointing Service and an Unreasonable Repair Estimate…read more I had an extremely disappointing experience with Midcity Tire & Auto and would not recommend this shop based on the service I received. I had a cracked rear light lens/glass that needed to be replaced. I had already had the damage inspected for an insurance claim, and the insurance estimate for the repair was under my $1,000 deductible. Because of that, I decided not to go through insurance and instead planned to pay out of pocket for what I understood to be a relatively simple repair. I brought the car to Midcity Tire & Auto, and the experience immediately felt unprofessional. The television behind the counter was blaring loudly, making it difficult to hear and communicate with the person assisting me. He came outside, looked at the damage, and told me the repair would cost $1,200. When I expressed surprise at the price, he then said he could "get it down to" $990, before tax. I asked how much the actual part would cost, and he told me approximately $600. He said the remaining amount included the service/labor fee, despite telling me the repair itself would only take approximately 30 minutes to an hour. What concerned me most was how arbitrary the pricing seemed. When I mentioned that my insurance deductible was $1,000 and that the insurance estimate had been below that amount, he suggested he could lower the price again. This was essentially the third different price I had been given, and I was never given a clear explanation for why the price was changing or what specifically justified the original $1,200 estimate. As a woman coming into an auto repair shop, I was particularly uncomfortable with the feeling that I might be assumed not to know enough to question the price. I came prepared to ask questions, and once I did, the price repeatedly changed. That completely undermined my confidence that I was being given a fair or transparent estimate. I understand that repair costs can vary and that shops need to charge for labor and parts. My issue is the lack of transparency, inconsistent pricing, poor communication, and the extremely high estimate for what appeared to be a straightforward repair. If you're looking for an auto repair shop, I would strongly recommend getting a second opinion and comparing estimates before authorizing work at Mid city Tire & Auto. Based on my experience, I did not feel that the pricing was transparent or that I was being treated fairly as a customer. Poor customer service, questionable pricing, lack of transparency, and an extremely disappointing auto repair experience.

I have overlooked a few things that were suboptimal service wise but not this latest incident. I made an appointment for an inspection for 10am, received a confirmation the day before, and arrived a few minutes before 10am to drop off my car. Upon arrival I was informed that they were short staffed and could not accommodate my appointment, nor could they reschedule it until FOUR days later. There were three employees behind the desk and not one bothered to call me or email me to let me know they could no longer accept my appointment before I made the trip down there. Then they had the audacity to send me an automated email that I missed my appointment. Unbelievable. I booked a sitter to watch my baby to go to this appointment and the lack of common courtesy (and now wasted expense I incurred) is just totally unacceptable. I realize they don't make money on inspections but that doesn't allow you to deprioritize and screw over a customer. Beyond disappointing and I will absolutely NEVER go back. Avoid avoid avoid.

Granted that I don't know much about cars, I initially trusted the highly rated google reviews on this place since they seem to be run by honest people who are trustworthy. I really should've trusted my guts after my car's AC suddenly stopped working after taking it in for a yearly inspection here a couple of years ago, but I kept coming back in hopes that it was just a one-time thing (when I took the car back to have them take a look at it after that incident, they claimed the issue was not reproducible that there's nothing wrong with it. As if by magic, my AC suddenly worked after I picked up my car from them). This year, I dropped my car off with them for the yearly inspection and oil change (each of those services cost at least $100 btw). I was pretty busy at work when they texted me several images of my car tire. When asked if it needed a change, I was told it's highly recommended but not needed to pass the inspection. On the other hand, since I just replaced my car battery, I needed to drive my car in order to generate sufficient emissions data for the inspection. When I called them to ask about the tire issue on the phone, I was also told that the tires would only last around 25 more miles before they gave out. Since I don't wanna risk having a flat/blown out tires, I asked them to give me the quote for the cost of the tires. On the phone, they mentioned a set would be around $621. I thought it sounded a bit expensive, but after checking online, it seems like a reasonable range so I proceeded with it. They later sent me a text that all services (oil change + state inspection + 3 tires) would cost around $840. Mind you, whenever someone mentions a set of tires, one would assume they meant the entire set of 4 tires unless you're driving a tricycle. I didn't pay much attention to the part where they mentioned 3 tires since I thought it was a typo. Nope. I was fooled. They REALLY meant the change was only for a set of 3 tires. Since I picked up my car at the end of a workday, I didn't have much energy left for anything else than to just get home and rest. Granted that I've been going to this place for the past 4 years, I also thought that my loyalty to them would allow me to trust them with a high level of service. To hell with that expectation since none of the following were provided on the day I picked up the car: 1) the digital invoice (they link they sent on the day of service did NOT work), 2) the physical copy of the invoice, 3) the information on the tires' warranty, which they claimed verbally was only 6 months from the date of service or based on the tires' thread life, and 4) the safety inspection results. Before I picked up my car, I looked up Yokohama tire's website (the manufacturer of the kind I purchased), and it clearly states that they offer a warranty up to 65,000 mile and a 30-day trial satisfaction guarantee. After mentioning this to Ken's Auto on the call, they said that guarantee is only applicable if I were to 1) purchase 4 tires, and 2) submit the claim on my own on Yokohama's website. Granted that I last changed all 4 of my tires at Costco at the same time, I fail to understand why they'd only change only 3 of them ESPECIALLY if it would limit me from being able to get the manufacturer's warranty honored. Any automotive resources would also tell you the replacing either a set of 2 tires (front-wheel drive) or 4 tires (all wheel drive) simultaneously would be optimal to prevent uneven wear and tear and maintain balanced handling. This place has snake oil dripping down their teeth when they mentioned that the last tire didn't need to be replaced since it's still in good working condition and that I'm being charged fairly since I wouldn't be able to find a business that'd install my tires without charging for the labor costs (hello, Costco does this ALL the time). The part that pissed me off the most was how gaslighting they were about all the things they mentioned on the phone call and texts as follows: 1) they claimed they never told me my tires would only last 25 more miles, and 2) they claimed they DID inform me that I'd be charged for 3 tires by the 3 text images (despite the fact that they look like they're pictures of the same tire but from a slightly different angle) as well as on the phone (a complete lie). If you're looking for an honest and trustworthy car shop, this place isn't it. Keep looking elsewhere and save your money. Update: In response to Ken L.'s reply, I'd like to clarify that the estimates were provided AFTER the complaint call. The link to the invoice on the date of the service only says to "contact the shop to reshare the link". I was probably put on blast/speaker by the business during the complaint call rather than when the original conversation concerning the tires issue and pricing. So much for customer service...

The service advisor was Angelo. He made sure I got taken care of as quickly as possible and despite forgetting to bring in my wheel lock, he was able to get the tech to bleed my brakes. The tech also said my brakes are fine but Angelo got him to check it again and bleed it anyways to get rid of any air. My brakes felt instantly better. Unfortunately, the reservoir was completely overfilled when I checked it so I had to go buy a syringe to remove some of the fluid myself. I also saw some fluid near the brake booster so I had to monitor it for leaks for the next couple days. This wasn't exactly the experience I expected. The second time I came in, I spoke to Angelo about getting my tire/tire valve looked at due to a flat tire.
