By day, it's an inviting space perfect for sipping on coffee or a soothing cup of tea while nibbling on delightful treats like tamales, sandwiches, and croissants. The ambiance is just right for hanging out or getting some work done. But the real magic happens when the sun goes down. The café transforms into a music venue, featuring performances that highlight the talents of its owners, Mandy and Gary Schoenberger. Such a cute cafe in the Webster Grove area. I love the ambience and the decoration of the cafe. It's a good place to study and hang out with friends and family. They have a big menu with many drink selections which is a huge plus. They also sell alcohol if that's what you want. I ordered a salted caramel latte and blackberry coconut latte. I liked the blackberry coconut latte but the salted caramel latte was just okay. Overall I think the drinks were decent but nothing special. Price is very reasonable however. I would recommend this cafe if you are ever in the area. It's a solid choice. read more

A perfect spot to stay warm & cozy on a cold winter's day. This cafe is positively lovely as are the staff. Coffee came out plenty hot (an Almond Joy Mocha!) and the ham& cheese stuff croissant was so good. I don't eat eggs and it's hard to find spots with sandwiches already egg-free. I was pleasantly surprised this cafe had something delicious and filling good for the savory craving I had. I enjoyed myself for an hour or so nursing my beverage, reading a book and listening to their very relaxing live music (which is there every Saturday and Sunday). My friend & I stopped in first time last Friday late lunch 1:30pm Only 1 table outside w/ 2 people. 2 employees, one eating the other no help at all. Saw wine in glass door refrigerator in work area asked about white wines she had no knowledge of ask to see some bottles she only turned the light on in the unit Still couldn't see Ask for a wine menu .. she turned the sign around w/ no listings other than White, Red, Red blend. Ask if I could walk behind the counter to look in the cooler was refused so changed to iced coffee and then tried to order lunch croissant Ask if they could add ham to spinach/goat cheese was told all are per made althrough Ham and Cheese was on menu. Ordered 2 other croissants and paid for our order asked us about a tip, told them I woukd leave a cash tip on the table then was shown the tip jar on the counter. We took a sit outside in the sunshine Attempted to sit at the only table with folded umbrella and iron chairs without cushion but entire table top was loose from the legs and unsteady So took a seat at the concrete picnic table Shortly, the employee that was eating behind the counter brought our drinks to the table She told us her employee should have told us they have no table service. I thought she should know about the table we tried to sit at in case she was unaware... she then told me our sandwiches were ready and sitting inside on the barrel. I when in to get the sandwiches but the whole experience thus far was very poor. I told them given the number of patrons there I felt they should provide a better level of customer service in a pleasant non foul language way. the woman who was eating the sandwich and bought the drinks out claiming to be manager over the other employee abruptly raised her voice and said " we are not interested in your advise" I did respond in a calm firm voice" with that kind of attitude and service rendered they won't be employed long" I picked up the sandwiches and when to my table outside, stunned by the attitude of the employees. I have owned and run like businesses and I feel for the business owner They have an invested and employees like this can ruin a business. This is the primary reason I am writing this review. So may times the owner is not aware of toxic employee/Manager ( the worst) in Closing, The sandwiches were just ok but had been prepared upon ordering (1) ham & Cheese (1) Chicken Salad so a slice of Ham could have been added for additional revenue to the spinach/goat cheese. Plus, there was no lettuce/tomato/ offered or present the chicken salad was decent but there was hardly any ham on the sandwich nothing like mayo, mustard etc was offered or given. Reopened after the Bad Times and even open today (Easter Sunday!), Webster Groves Garden Cafe is as #LocalCoffee as you can get. I stopped in this morning and spent an hour Yelping, drinking my coffee and enjoying the coming and going of the patrons. They actually have cortado on the menu and that's fantastic. It was even served in a ceramic mug and it was very good. Creamy and rich coffee that is still giving me the caffeine boost I need. There are quite a few tables and chairs for sitting. The cutest cafe in Webster Groves. It has a front outdoor patio and a back outdoor area for seating as well. There is also an indoor area to eat. There are so many great syrups to choose from, including a lot of sugar free options for coffee and teas. There are many breakfast and lunch options including the stuffed croissants, pizzas, and lots and lots of baked goods. My favorite is the almond croissant. They also warm the baked goods up which amps it up even more. A great place for working or meeting up with a friend. It has very eclectic and homey decor. Lots of bright colors and little Knick knacks. I have been several different times and the service is always top notch, super friendly and helpful with any questions. Finally stopped into the WG Garden Cafe tonight and wish I had done it sooner. The vibe is perfect with just enough eclectic stuff and furniture to make it a bit artsy, a bit homey and full of the sounds of the coffee shops I loved as a college student many yrs ago. We had two coffee drinks and a cherry danish and each was fantastic, with the danish taking the win! Met the owner/proprietors and a few other people. It felt great to be there. It's a cute little place run by great people. The outdoor live music events are very nice. The back gently sloped hill creates an intimate venue, much nicer (and Covid safe) compared to the inside shows. In addition to their small but good food options, they have a small variety of alcoholic beverages. I took off one star because I eat vegan so their menu is limited for me, but most people will enjoy it. Coffee and tea options are very nice. Baked goods are yummy! I went to Garden Café with my daughter, and the owner, Mandy, was manning the counter along with a worker. An African American man came in at the same time or before us, and began to ask information about her shop because he apparently wanted to promote it on Instagram. But Mandy was so rude to him, even making fun of him at one point. I don't know if she's racist, but it definitely had that vibe. Every time he began to say something she cut him off in a very rude way. She wouldn't even listen to what he had to say, and she said that she wanted to take our order. A most rude woman. What an adorable neighborhood cafe! My other half and I were looking for somewhere new to explore on a cold Friday night, and we found Webster Groves Garden Cafe on Yelp. When we arrived, there was a local artist performing a live show, and we were immediately met with the friendliest smiles from some members of the audience -- I think one of them was the owner or manager of the establishment. As I have also seen some others state here, the older woman who works there, it seems like some people on here say she is the owner, was extremely rude to me and my fiancé while attending one of their open mic night sessions. We just wanted to come and enjoy the music (while also buying some treats from the counter and spending our money) but as soon as we walked in the woman looked at us and spoke to us like we had no right being there. I was even thinking about coming back to play music sometime but now I'm not sure. She made us feel AWFUL. All we did was walk in, order food and sit down but the amount of passive aggression and arrogance she showed us in that time was insane. TL:DR - Great local Cafe with a homie feel. Live music most nights and very friendly staff. Great local Cafe. Came in on a random weekday afternoon trying to kill an hour. Fairly quiet indoors. Barista was very friendly and was patient with me as I explored the menu. Menu was relatively extensive with pizza and sandwiches from other local businesses. The decor is very homey with mismatching tables and chairs. Signs for live music were every where. I got a matcha tea latte which was made perfectly. I dont understand how anybody can rate this anything but a 1 star, they DO have vegan options in terms of coffee, they ask if you'd like almond or oat milk every time, as for the pastries it is a slimmed down but still have options. Ive gone almost every single day for nearly a year, every single time was a pleasure. They have a massive variety of coffee options, and have typical cafe sandwiches and treats. They also ask if youd like your food warmed up, as ive noticed that one review said it was cold, they mustve said no to that question. Id give this place a 10 star review if possible, as they had some of the friendliest staff ive ever experienced, they are VERY friendly of those who do school work there as well, as I see people doing homework there every single time I go. Beautiful scenery as well, it is well decorated and is a very cozy cafe with couches and comfortable chairs for those who visit. I am convinced that the people who give this place bad reviews are simply people who are stuck up or just have issues of their own. 10/5 a million times would recommend the garden cafe. read more

There is one big problem with this place, and it's the owner's wife who serves the beverages. She is not only rude, but borderline hostile. At the recently resumed Thursday night Open Mic she will treat you like a huge inconvenience for just asking a question about their drink selection, which is way over-priced. The spicy chai was excellent! I make my own chai and this blend is great! I also had the spinach and cheese croissant. I thought the croissant was almost bitter and the cheese and spinach was tasteless. There was so little on it that maybe more, would have improved the flavor. I met a close friend there for some good ole' coffee and catching up this week, and this was the perfect spot. The baristas are super helpful and friendly, and the whole place just feels like home. Even if you're not in the mood for coffee, they have super fresh tasting black iced tea. It's not too bitter on it's own, so no need to get it sweetened. In the evenings, occasionally they have live music. Pro tip: In the mornings if you want to sit outside, sit on the south side of the building it's perfectly shaded until exactly noon, and it's nice and cool over there (even in the summer). I really like this casual coffee shop. It feels more eclectic non-matching than a Starbucks style coffee shop, which I really like. They have live music at times, and other times when you can go and peacefully work at your table. The only thing that would make it better would be a bigger selection of lunch style food...but I get it that they don't have a full kitchen so have to get by with things that can be served room temp or microwaved. I have been to this coffee shop several times over the years and I've always wanted to like it more but it seems to always fall short in one way or another. Location: I love Webster for any occasion so will make an excuse to visit businesses in the area. Parking lot for parking convenience is located on the side. 5/5 Atmosphere: Here is the first failing of Garden Cafe. During the day it just seems exceedingly dark and gloomy inside. It doesn't help that it was freezing inside in the middle of summer time the last time I went. There are plenty of places to sit but it feels cold, hard and uncomfortable, making it difficult to concentrate. The decor is actually really cute and homey, there are a lot of plants hanging around which is awesome. The music was loud and poppy, and hard to drown out with headphones the last time I was there. The baristas are usually very friendly and accommodating however which I really appreciate. 3/5 Product: Another failing. I have ordered the lattes were the milk is burning/ scalding hot and over-steamed/over-dry so that the espresso, which is inevitably burnt, tastes really bitter. The light roast drip coffee is actually decent though and they offer a lot of different fixings to add as well, which I appreciate. They have a huge amount of flavors to add to the lattes, which is not the best sign. I'm really not sure if any of them are made in house, I did spot a collection of Torani syrup bottles next to the machine though. Yikes. I've tried their quiche and many of their croissants and they're good...as long as they're heated up enough which they usually are not. I've found the middle of the croissant cold every time, no matter how long it takes in the toaster oven. I once asked for it not to be heated up but the barista insisted, and I finally realized it comes frozen. 3/5. Overall: I really wanted to like this place, but more often than not I come away disappointed. read more

I normally visit Webster Groves Garden Cafe during the week, because it's close to my work and they make a good cup of coffee. I dropped by on Sunday, early afternoon, after a walk at the Botanical Garden. The place was busy, but not hectic; there was outdoor seating on this very warm day in February. I sat with my coffee on a sofa in the corner to ponder the piece I had been writing earlier in the day. Gary, the owner, was on stage with another guy, the two trading songs on guitar, in a very casual and entertaining manner, like listening to old friends in your own living room. The owners have done such a nice job giving it a unique vibe that feels authentic to Webster as well as one of those unique places you stumble across when traveling and sit for hours.
