I hadn't been here in awhile and WOW I was missing out. It's so big and airy and I love all of the plants. The indoor space, outdoor space, and even parking lot were all great! I love that they put on events with other businesses and have created a community. Oh and the food is delicious too! They have a great kids menu and high chairs available. From the curb, this looks like one of those places that sells potted plants. (I think they're called nurseries, though I'm not sure why.) They might want to consider branching out into that field, in case someone pulls up wanting to purchase a ficus or whatever, so that they don't have to turn anyone away. It could help boost revenue, so that they're not having to constantly raise prices, like at McDonald's. There's a list of things this place carries on the building's facade, suggesting to me that this is a known issue. It's also announced that all are welcome, which came as a relief to me, since I'm never quite sure. I wonder if there was an incident, or if there's another place nearby that's known to turn people away. There's a nice little area where you can sit at some picnic tables set up in the parking lot, like you're on a smoking break at your old warehouse job, but the air was weirdly swampy, possibly due to "corn sweats," and we'd just gone on a run, so we decided to eat inside. We were all gross and sweaty. I hope no one minded. Their policy of not turning anyone away may have worked out in our favor. The group that I'm in is on a sort of breakfast burrito tour, so I already knew what I was going to get, though I was curious about several menu items featuring weird-looking boiled eggs, that I saw photos of here on Yelp. What in the world? They look like they were thought up by an eccentric gentleman of a certain age who still collects VHS tapes, for personal reasons. You could imagine Gene Hackman's character in the movie The Conversation eating such a sandwich. I briefly toyed with the idea of ordering one of those sandwiches, for the lulz, and now I kinda wish that I did. I prefer a breakfast sandwich to a breakfast burrito anyway, and the breakfast burrito here is just okay. It's neither very bad nor very good. I liked the sheer size of it and the simplicity of it. There's only a small handful of ingredients: eggs; your choice of bacon or some non-meat option (so just bacon); some sort of melty cheese, possibly cheddar; roasted red peppers and that might be it. I don't know that the peppers added much. I'd sub them out for something more interesting, like a salsa, a sour cream or a guacamole, maybe something with more of a temperature or textural contrast. The egg was weirdly rectangular and artificial-seeming, like maybe they're frozen pucks that they just microwave. I got an iced Coconut Latte, a seasonal item, and I'm not sure what was going on with that. It was good, but it didn't taste anything like coconut, to the point where I'm not sure if they gave me the right drink. The girl who took my order may not have heard what I said. People who work the register in these places get nervous when a big group walks in, like they're not going to be able to take everyone's order in time and, as a result, they're going to get let go--which would violate the terms of their parole. I can sympathize with their plight. I would never intentionally cause someone to get locked up just because they gave me the wrong drink. read more

My wife and I have been coming to the living room since we started dating over a decade ago. Over time the restaurant has expanded but kept the same great service. The new (ish) expansion was a great move. The restaurant space is open and bright with ample room to spread out. The menu has a good mixture. My favorite is the wingspan breakfast. The Living Room is a perfect place to grab a coffee with a friend or meet up with someone. It's a quiet and relaxed atmosphere where it's very easy to talk. The menu is pretty focused with light fare and interesting drinks. By interesting I mean espresso and orange juice!? Espresso and root beer!? Don't knock it till you try it! Although I haven't tried EVERY coffee place in the St. Louis area, this has to be my favorite so far, and one I want to keep coming back to time and again. If not for the coffee, but for that great cheesy scone! This time I had a Salted Honey Latté as well as a Brown Butter Chocolate Chip cookie. The cookie was a little tough - and there's nothing wrong with that - I just like my cookies a little softer. The team here is always very friendly and they are well organized and keep everything running smoothly and efficiently. My Sunday was started perfectly at living room! I've been here before many times over the last few years and they've been consistent. This time we got an iced matcha (surprise surprise) with brown sugar, the sunset espresso, and a coffee cake! The matcha was a a bit milky/watery and could've used a touch more matcha for a creamier consistency and a little bit more sweetener (personal preference). The sunset is STRONG, a little bitter but the blood orange taste offsets the bitterness. Line moved pretty quickly and seating wasn't an issue. It was pretty busy for a rainy Sunday but the acoustics inside alleviate the noise level, making it a decent place for work/studying with headphones. I have been here several times! On my most recent visit, I got to enjoy the patio. It was a beautiful day and since staying is limited outside, I got to share my space with some new friends. Oddly enough, we made new friends on our very first visit to The Living Room also. I've been excited to try living room for a while, bc I've only ever heard good things. To start, the food was delicious and the coffee was pretty good; however, the service from the baristas was alarmingly strange. I work in the industry & I understand that people have bad days and maybe this was a particularly tough morning for them, but the way they dealt with my party was completely unacceptable. We were a party of 5, we all speak fluent English but my bfs family was speaking Spanish between themselves (I only mention this bc I'm wondering if this affected our level of service). We had never been before and were excited by the menu. We were definitely being a bit difficult, asking extra questions & being minimally indecisive. At the register the woman taking our order was visibly frustrated and became more and more impatient with us throughout the interaction. I have dealt with difficult customers and understand the frustration, but again we were not being rude in any capacity & we're simply trying to navigate a new place. That interaction put me off a bit, but I was still excited to try the food and drink. We waited 10-15 minutes for our coffee to come out (not too long given we ordered 4) & when it came the barista delivering the coffees literally threw them towards us, thrusting them across the table. This was the wildest part of the interaction, we were all caught off guard & thanked her, but it was very strange and not a kind way to deliver product we'd just paid decent money for. In my 10 years working the restaurant industry I can safely say I have NEVER thrown something at a customer, no matter how difficult or awful they've been to me. I do want to note that the person that dropped our food off was lovely! Our poor experience only extends to the baristas that took our order & delivered our coffee. At the end of the day, I felt that this interaction was worth leaving a review. I really did enjoy the food and coffee, but the experience with the FOH staff was extremely off putting and honestly pretty disrespectful. For a place that prides itself on being inclusive & respectful of all, I am shocked that this is the service we received. I guess my advice is to go for the food and coffee, but maybe don't expect kind service. Although I enjoyed the food and drink, I honestly don't think I'll be back. read more

I like the taste of goat cheese and honey and these made the sandwich for me. Excellent balance of flavors. The sandwich would have been 5 stars if it had more goat cheese and some seasonings like lemon pepper or basil. The side of grapes were ripe and sweet. Great help at the counter when we ordered. Well i finally stopped by on a given weekend and chose to sit inside, though it was a pretty warm day. my experience was i ordered at the counter and then they'll come bring whatever you order to your seat well, i got some french toast and this was by far the worst french toast i have ever eaten. it was only later on that i checked the menu and realized this was actually vegan french toast... which means they wouldn't be able to use eggs, butter or milk to make this dish? part of it is my own fault for not checking more carefully, but i was really just astounded by how bad this tasted. 2 stars because the staff was all really nice, but vegan french toast is truly terrible EDIT: turns out V means vegetarian, not vegan, initial review was wrong. im not sure how french toast with eggs, milk and butter could have tasted like this read more
