This is a good breakfast spot. Next time I visit Albuquerque, I will be back. The atmosphere is open, large and has nice decor. The staff is extremely friendly! From the time you walk in the door to the time you leave, everyone is smiling and helpful. Great kids menu with a nice selection and good prices. The little girls ordered eggs and bacon and then a large pancake with chocolate chips. The regular menu offers all the traditional breakfast foods plus the New Mexican options. I loved ordering an eggs Benedict (traditional) and then getting the green and red Chile sauces on the side. Awesome substitutes for hollandaise sauce! The only feedback is that the poached eggs were hard instead of runny. My cousin orders the "Papas" which was just the largest plate of food and loved it! I ordered Hashbrowns with cheese, green chili and an orange juice. The hashbrowns were ice cold. The cheese was on top and it was cold, it never melted showing how cold the hashbrowns were. Went to this location with my sister and a mutual friend this morning. I was sooooo hungry and, boy, Weck's delivered. It was a bit of a busy morning so our way it was about 20 minutes for a table. After being seated our waitress was very responsive and quick to take our orders. I got the spinach omelette with gourmet coffee. They must be working some kind of magic in the kitchen because our food came out in less than 10 minutes! Everything tasted so fresh and flavorful and the portions are huge. The prices are a little spendy but it's made up for with the amount of food you get. Definitely enough for two meals. A bonus is that they have a very convenient system that allows you to scan a QR code on the receipt with your phone and pay online. And the staff are consistently friendly with a manager always swinging by to make sure everything is OK. Our table ordered a bacon breakfast burrito. I love eggs; there was no skimping on eggs or bacon. Came smothered with cheese and green chili that had a medium heat to it. In lieu of hash browns, I got fruit, and it was fresh and good. My son got a New Mexican eggs Benedict which had red chili. He said it was great. He ordered the New Mexican pancake which had bacon and green chili. We all shared. We have been eating at Weck's for 20 years!!! I'm surprised to find that I haven't reviewed them before now. This is our "go to" for a warm and hearty breakfast on an occasional weekend. It's on our list of "must eat" for anyone visiting from out of town. And it's been the home for my son's birthday breakfast with his grandparents for the last 10 years. It is always busy but you never wait long for a table. I'm convinced the host staff are magicians of some kind the way they get you in so quickly when it looks packed inside. In all those years I can confidently say we have NEVER received anything less than stellar service. Wait staff are friendly and attentive. They take excellent care of you and you feel like you are family. The menu is extensive. Whether you're craving savory and chile or sweets, you can't go wrong. They are also excellent and accommodating at substitutions and changes to make you happy. The food is outstanding. Nothing we have ever ordered has been less. They take time to make high quality and delicious food. The manager is always on their feet making the rounds. They will come by your table to check on you and the service. We stopped for brunch as we were traveling through New Mexico and were delighted. Although it was very busy, we were seated right away and had coffee in front of us in 2 minutes. The gourmet coffee was fabulous as was the food. My French toast was fluffy, eggy, and totally yummy. My husband had an omelet with "Christmas" (res and green chili) for extra spice. This is the first time I've visited Weck's in years! This is the kind of place you'd go to get some good 'ol diner breakfast food. Large portions, larger beverages (with to-go cups!). It was a satisfying meal. I just wanted some biscuits and gravy. I accidentally ordered the wrong type of eggs (I can't have raw eggs) and the wait staff had no problem bringing out another order of cooked eggs at no additional charge. "Great spot to get a wonderful, filling, breakfast." Me and some family went here on a Saturday morning trying to find an out-of-the house breakfast. We got here, and it was super packed which made me even more excited to try it out. We were seated pretty quickly after being told it will be a 15 minute wait which is always good. Our waiter was honestly one of the nicest and most relatable waiters I've ever had. Super charismatic, down to earth, and friendly guy. Huge props to him. I decided to get the chicken and waffles which sounded perfect to me. All the food took a little while to get to the table, but it is understandable from the amount of people. I eventually got it and was pretty disappointed. The plate was fairly small, the menu made it seem like it was huge. The 3 pieces of chicken were very dry and I could barely cut them, the waffles did not have much flavor along side the chicken at all. The french toast with bananas however was really good and flavorful, with freshly cut bananas. The atmosphere of the place made me feel right at home with the cool walls and family friendly staff. When I first came to Albuquerque about 16 years ago, wecks was one of the first places I ate, and I LOVED IT. But I have come to see that 16 years later, unfortunately the quality has declined, and I was pretty dissapointed on my last visit. THE PROS: The staple of wrecks has always, in my opinion, been the fact that you get a LOT of food. If you leave wecks hungry, then you need to be in an eating competition, because the portions are absolutely huge. The service is pretty good, and even though we went in with a large party on a Sunday afternoon, we were sat fairly quickly. THE CONS: When I first ate at wecks, I was impressed by not only the quantity of the food, but the quality. This time around, they seemed to try and make up for the quality of the food by giving you more badly cooked food than any normal human can eat. I got the carne adovada papa's, and was presented with a MOUNTAIN of undercooked and under seasoned potatoes, along with chewy and fatty carne adovada, and fairly bland green Chile. Wife's pancakes were very large and slightly undercooked. It hurts to write this review because this was one of my early favorites. Weck's is obviously a New Mexico chain of breakfast joints aimed at competing with the Denny's of the world, but with a local twist. I get it, keep your discretionary funds local... got it, trackin! However, I get the impression their target audience is the older crowd, i.e. seniors. Maybe I'm off base there, but that's the vibe I gleaned. And maybe that's why, in my humble opinion, their food is very bland. Flavorless! Generally speaking, and yes I know I shouldn't generalize, but generally speaking seniors really tone it down on flavor & spice the older they get. They really start watching the salt, and they can no longer handle the spice of yesteryear. So maybe the chefs are cognizant of this when frying things up in back as they know their audience. Look, if you read the description of the stars: 1 is horrible; 2 is I've experienced better; 3 is A-OK; 4 is Yay, I'm a fan and 5 is obviously out of this world, love it! It's not horrible, but it's not A-OK either, therefore, it gets a 2. Since moving to the ABQ, I've not tried them, though I've seen them all over town. My wife heard a few good things about them & one of my co-workers swears by their biscuits & gravy. Well, as I'm sure most of you know, any self respecting fat man gets pretty stoked over biscuits & gravy. So when I heard that, they officially made my list. So Veterans Day, after the parade, we were hungry. So when debating where to go, this popped into our minds & off we went. I knew what I wanted, biscuits & gravy, of course. I ordered my eggs over easy & a side of sausage. Decent sized biscuits, but the gravy was lame! Seriously, FLAVORLESS! It was not a true sausage gravy with a good pepper kick to it, it was pasty & extra white with a ham base. Just a major let down. The eggs, sure, OK. How do you mess up eggs over easy? The side of sausage, also lame. No flavor & a bit dry. My daughter had a cheeseburger off the kids menu and I was surprised at the size, it was adult sized. However, very lame as well, no flavor & on the dry side. My wife ordered the Chicken Fried Steak, a staple yes? Not bad, very tender & the saving grace out of all our meals. But alas, the gravy covering said steak was the same boring, flat, flavorless gravy. In my humble opinion, nowhere near the hype & we'll not be returning. I've only been early morning (weekday) and only breakfast food. This isn't my typical wow review, but the food was good and the staff were nice. I have no complaints but I wasn't wowed in any way (not that is required). We had tried a few of the dishes including omelet, french toast, and pancakes. All have been delicious and plenty enough food to take home for leftovers. The staff have always been friendly and attentive, so I have no complaints here.
