This is a review of my on-line shopping experience for two weddings with this company.
Wedding number 1- Daughter #1 came across this site after we had bought bridesmaids dresses by The Dessy (Dessy collection) Group elsewhere and my daughter felt bad that the prices here were so much better here than our local bridal store. However, we did order the flower girl dresses and two other dresses by Dessy for non-bridesmaids wedding attendants and everything arrived quickly and fit well with only very minor alterations (which are to be expected).
Wedding Number 2- Daughter #2 said lets use this site to save my girls some money and she also choose dresses from the Dessy Group (Alfred Sung Collection). We had the girls try on the dresses locally and get measured. We looked at the Alfred Sung size chart. I sew so I also remeasured the girls and looked at the chart before every one ordered. We ordered 5 bridesmaids dresses and two flower girl dresses. The dresses were ordered in May and arrived in about 5 weeks, 4 weeks ahead of schedule. The dresses were beautiful!!!
The flower girl dress fit well with minor alterations needed- no problem. However, every one of the bridesmaids had an issue with their dress being much too big. All the dresses were HUGE. I called the store and they said that this sounded like we had not measured correctly. I had the girls come over and bring there dresses, and I even remeasured the girls and took another look at the size chart at this site and at the Alfred Sung link through Dessy. Everything was ordered correctly, yet this dress was fitting every one wrong. I even called Dessy to see if the sizing chart was correct. I am still not sure where the sizing went so wrong on this style. My only saving grace was each of the girls' dress was a different size, so we were able to shuffle the dresses and get it where each girls (except one) was able to uses someone else's dress and yes they all will need alterations, but at least now it was reasonable and customary alterations.
The Wedding Shoppe does allow returns of bridesmaids dress, but with a hefty 50% restocking fee. Most bridal store do not allow returns, so I grateful we had an option, but the dress my daughter chose was a pretty common color and a very popular style, so this 50% fee seemed a bit high, but again it is better than nothing. We did request to ship back & reorder the one dress, a size 12 and exchange it for a size 6 ( due to the shuffling, not that any dress was that far off, though many of the girls dresses were two sizes off). The wedding is three months out, but I was told the dress would arrive after the wedding unless I paid the $40 rush fee. I was hesitant as the first dress came so quickly, but I didn't want a fiasco so I did pay the rush fee. The girl on the phone did send me a 10% off coupon for a small discount to apply towards buying the new dress. They also sent me out the return label to send back the dress. I had to pay for the new dress and the rush fee, minus the discount & I did get free shipping prior to getting any refund. I also had to pay to ship the return dress back on my dime, and I did choose to pay for confirmation that they received it & insurance (an extra $5 at the post office) because I wanted to be sure they got it. The return dress arrived and my return and credit was processed quickly. Yesterday the new dress arrived, 4 weeks ahead of the promised date, so did I need to pay the rush fee? From a stand point of piece of mind yes- but after the shipping, rush fees etc. the re ordered dress cost 62% more than if I had received the right size in the first place. I as mother of the bride could not let the bridesmaid suffer through that so I paid the difference, but at least it was only on 1 dress and not all 5.
So yes you can save money, but I am not sure I would do this again. read more
