I have had bad experiences here in Vegas! An Optometry person highly recommended Wellish Abrams. I went today for my first visit with Dr, Shay. He was great and so knowledgeable and pleasant. He put my mind at ease due to another Opthalmologist in the valley, Brimhall, who had no time for me! The exam was thorough, his assistant was amazing, scheduled time was perfect, prescribed a better version of one of my eye drops. Agreed that I continue on with eye drops (a few different kinds), and my regimen was working well and needed to continue doing what I have been doing! Dr. Brimhall wanted to take me off of my NECESSARY eye gel at night. I have Sjogren's! I'm feeling blessed to now have a great Opthalmologist! What a relief! I happen to go there for a follow up of surgery that was performed two years ago. They were as usual amazing. The staff was great if I only had one complaint they were just extremely busy, but other than that, they didn't waste my time and the checkup went well. If I could rate this place lower I would. I got lasik one year ago here and have had issues ever since. My eye didn't heal properly so I've had to come every month for a check up. During those "check ups" I pay a co pay, get told to come back the next month over and over and over. DONT EVEN TRY TO GET AN APPOINTMENT with Dr.Wellish because you will be here for 3+ HOURS!!!! This is not good folks. I am an ongoing patient of Wellish Vision Institute for years. Last year they called and emailed and texted me several times to come in for a follow-up visit. So I finally went in for the follow-up. Now they are hounding me to pay $400.00 for being a NEW PATIENT!!! I KEEP EXPLAINING THAT I AM AN EXISTING PATIENT! The doctor who was "treating" me at the box canyon location left abruptly so I was rescheduled with Wellish. They called me and asked me to come in two hours earlier when I called back to confirm of course no one answered. I got there exactly on time for the new appointment. I was immediately brought to a second waiting room for 2plus hours. I drove across town early only to still wait until the original appointment time and still I was not seen. Obviously this man couldn't care less about anyone eles's time and this double, triple booking clearly affects the quality of the overall experience. It was bad and I would never recommend this person. Its all him and he obviously does not care. read more

My mom's cataracts were starting to get pretty bad so her new eye doctor referred her to Wellish Vision Institute to have them removed. Her initial consultation was painless and easy. They explained exactly what and how they were going to do the surgeries (one for each eye, about two weeks apart from each other). They gave her a plethora of information and many drops (soooooooo many drops). They also scheduled the surgery and subsequent appointments quickly. She didn't have to wait long at all. A week, tops. Two days before the surgery, my dad mentions that someone at his work had an awful experience and went blind and is in a legal thrall with Wellish. Now, I don't know if this is true or not, but I can tell you this FREAKED ME OUT! However, thankfully there is Yelp (and Google for the "lawsuits") and I was able to read the reviews and do some research and decide that we should go ahead with the surgery. We saw many of the complaints were over wait times or "friendliness." I'm less concerned about waiting and having a new best friend than I am over quality of service, so these are non issues for me. If I have to wait 20 hours to have the procedure done by a complete a*hole, I will, as long as it's correct. We also trusted our gut regarding the look of the facility and the care we did get in the consultation. Luckily, we didn't seem to have the issues others had. Both surgeries, she went in on time and came out at the estimated time. They were great about calling me up to the pick up spot and they brought her out and helped her into the car for me. They gave good after care advice. She can see much better now and is in great spirits. She did have an issue after the first surgery... Her vision was blinking in and out after the second day and this wasn't one of the side effects mentioned so we brought her in. She saw a different doctor than Dr. Wellish (I can't remember his name cause I was so mad, I think it was Dr. May?) and he was the rudest piece of .... that I have ever encountered. My mom has a heavy accent and talks with her hands and he mocked her! He was super dismissive and would hardly even listen to what she was saying, stating that it had only been 2 days and she should just deal with the blinking vision and pain. He finally changed his tone when he saw that the lens they put in had flipped and was pushing on her eye. He removed it and she could see again. He never apologized but he was nicer to her after that. Aside from the one hitch, very happy with this surgery and would come here again, but hopefully we don't have to. read more

I went to Abrams for cataract surgery. After paying an extra 5000 dollars for "special corrective lense" my vision is worse than before I went. Now I have to undergo another surgery, with another Doctor, to correct what I paid Abrams for. Would not recommend to anyone! read more

I initially had a consultation & were scheduled for LASIK surgery w/ Brimhall until my counselor didn't respond to my email or answer my questions. Then his staff mixed up my appointments. I was done a/ Brimhall by then even though their office was much closer to me. I decided to have a consultation w/ Wellish Vision Institution instead. I then had my LASIK surgery YESTERDAY. The counselor, Taylor, has been very responsive & answering all my questions. She even checked on me soon after I got home & took a nap. The staff were friendly, helpful, and professional. I met Dr. Wellish on my surgery day & he performed my surgery. His staff & he were pleasant & friendly. The only thing is I had to bounce from one office to another, but it was worth it. The surgery itself was pain free. I was able to see much better after my nap. I can now see much clearer than yesterday. I can't believe I can see without my glasses or contacts. I highly recommend Wellish Vision Institute for your Lasik. They were very informative & thorough. They informed me of all the benefits & risks & had me prepared well for my surgery. The cost itself is well worth it. You wouldn't want to go cheap for something like your vision, and you want it done by an office you can trust & feel comfortable with. Everything was included (goggles, sedative if needed, sunglasses; except for antibiotic eye drops ($10 copay), Systane eye drops, and anti-inflammatory drops ($10 copay). Absolutely the worst experience. The Dr called me dude 2 times in 5 mins and asked me to arm wrestle... I'm a 60 years old woman. (From birth) I asked for my prescriptions to be called in to one store and they never did...I asked 4 times. It's funny how they ONLY time anyone knows exactly what's happening is when it's time for them to get paid...then they magically grow a brain. I have been coming here to be treated for dry eyes and feel abandoned. Why? Because my appointments have been canceled, most without my knowledge. The staff seems more interested in charging my insurance than actually treating my dry eye syndrome. Well today I called because I had a 1pm appointment and found out that it was canceled. I have been treated for over a year now at Wellish on Eastern Ave., Henderson NV. I had cataract surgery a few months ago and can see better now, though I still have blurry vision in the mornings and by the end of the day. But that's not why I'm writing. The opthalmologist who did my surgery has left, abruptly, and I was assigned another practitioner, Dr. McCandless. I waited quite a while to see him on the day of my apt., and though the wait was long I was fine with it because I really did need a second follow-up after my surgery. Frankly, the exam was spotty. First, the doctor's aide gave me the usual eye test, to see how my vision distance is now. Then I waited quite a while again for Dr. McCandless to come in, and when he did, he was perfunctory, never mentioned my surgery, asked me a few brief questions, barely looked at me, and did not search my eyes to see if there was further macular degeneration, or how my eyes were adjusting after surgery. He just asked questions like was I seeing OK now, and took notes as I said Yes or No. When I said I was still having some vision problems, and that I had a bad case of blephirasty (extreme dry eye) he never looked at my eyes, just said "OK". I told him I was using OCusoft Lid Scrub+ and Theratears Xtra. He mumbled another "uh-hu" with his face, like he'd never heard of those remedies (which had been recommended to me by the surgeon). He was mainly turned away from me at the table in the room where he appeared to be taking notes, though on what I have no idea since he barely spoke a word to, or looked at me. I asked him, "Should I get new glasses?" He said "Sure, good idea. It'll sharpen up your vision." He left soon thereafter, like he was very busy - rushed out, leaving me sitting there wondering what the heck had just happened. He didn't seem to care a darn about my post-cataract surgery, my dry eye problem, my blurry vision. I only realized how careless this visit was when I looked him up here on YELP. He's not even an opthalmologist. He's an optometrist! I expected more from Wellish, which bills itself as a top tier vision center, seriously dedicated to eye health. Honestly, Dr. McCandless acted like he barely had a moment to give a darn. I am an older woman, and worried about losing my eyesight, which my original doctor at Wellish (the one who vanished suddenly, after operating on me) told me might happen. What the heck is going on over there? Is this another "corrupt Medicare issue" the whole country is focused on lately? Is my Medicare not valuable enough to get a real opthalmologist, after recently having had a major procedure? Something was just not right about this visit. I did not feel "cared" about. Notwithstanding the up to two-hour wait times, cramped seating areas, inadequate communications from staff and doctor, and worst of all, lack of concern from Kent Wellish, I would gladly accept all if not for the fact that this "so-called" doctor botched my cataract surgery. And then to make matters worse attributed it to a previous surgery I had more than 35-years ago [on both eyes]. Kent Wellish has taken no responsibility whatsoever. He tells me he advised me of the risks, which is a bald-faced lie. I had cataract surgery 8-years ago under the exact circumstances which turned out well enough so I can get by on the sight of my right eye. Your eyesight is too valuable to risk on a doctor that has no sense of responsibility for his actions and appears to be in it for the almighty dollar. On the day of my 15-minute surgery, I waited over 9-hours while this man did one surgical procedure after another. At approximately 1800 hours, they wheeled me in, and I asked, "are you sure we shouldn't do this on another day since you started at 0800 hours?" Don't risk your vision at any of the three Wellsih Eye Centers referenced here on Yelp. They are all the same, so don't be fooled by three distinct locations. I deeply regret ever having gone to this man for simple cataract surgery as more than two years later; I am trying to find a way to better what this man has done. read more

I'm so shocked to see the negative reviews on wait times because I had the total opposite experience. This is a healthcare facility so masks are still required and luckily they had some at the front as I was not aware. They made sure on the next text reminder to place a friendly reminder on it! I called in and made a 9:00 spot and they called me back within 5 minutes to move my slot to 8:40 because someone had booked just before me and they didn't want me to wait a long time! Initial appointment was SOMEZ WAIT, 20 minutes to enter in my information. But literally it's out out of the office within an hour, came back for a follow up and had my eyes dilated and other exams which they told me would take 2 hours but it didn't even feel that long. I booked my lasik and will have it this Thursday and I loved it so much my husband booked his lasik later this month! Can't wait to be able to see without my smudgy glasses read more

I waited over six months to post this so that it wasn't too soon for things to change with my vision and they haven't. I got LASIK at Wellish at the end of June 2019. I was always nervous because I cannot deal with touching my eyeball. I can't touch my eyeball, it's tough for me to use eye drops and when I tried contacts once before, two people had to pry open my eyelids to get the contact in. So if I can do Lasik, anyone can. I was nervous going in as anyone would be. However I was given medication to calm me before the procedure. The procedure itself was relatively easy on my end, just stare at a red dot. In 10 minutes the procedure itself was over. (You spend more time just waiting on the medicine to kick in) The doctor and staff were amazing. They were patient with me as the medicine kicked in and would not proceed until I was calm, taking the utmost of precaution. The best part? It worked. The doctor did an amazing job and I was seeing 20/20 immediately. I even went to work the next day. If you are going to do Lasik, go to Wellish! read more

The doctors seem competent but the office seems poorly run. It can easily take two hours to see the doctor.

I've always had great experiences with all staff. Dr. McCandless (my main Doc), Dr. Wellish, and Dr. Ortiz have been taking care of me since about Sept.2018. I've never once had a bad experience,they've always taken their time out to listen and answer any questions I've had. The refractive surgery staff (from the front desk, to the techs, and Taylor) are all amazing as well! Extremely friendly and knowledgeable! I received OU corneal cross-linking (CXL) epi-off. Prior to getting it done I did a lot of research on the procedure and people's experience with it (googled, Reddit, articles around the world), so coming into it I was a little nervous. My nerves were relieved with the pre-op preparation the whole team provided me. They prepped me from the moment of my first appt by controlling my dry eye problem (throughout this I began to feel a whole bunch of relief). Followed by the 1-2 week standard pre-op with meds, diet, and plugs. The days of my procedures I felt extremely confident going in, I knew that everyone did all they could so that I may be fully ready. My mom was there as my driver after the procedures, staff were friendly and kept her up to date by informing her my status throughout the procedures. Fast forward 4 months (OD) and 2 months (OS) post-op, I feel fine. I never had any of the issues or complications that most have stated (reddit, other forums) from other places (although everybody's eyes are different for CXL). If anyone asked me where to go for CXL epi-off, I would highly recommend Wellish! read more

In September, I had the 1st morning appt at 7:40 for Dr. Wellish. I got called back for the initial exam and then waited for Dr. Wellish. At 8:50 I finally gave up and had to leave. I rescheduled for December for the same 7:40 appointment. Same thing occurred, I was called back at 7:40 for an initial test and ten waiting for the Dr. At 9:00 I was still waiting for Dr. Wellish. I asked the reception how long she thought it would be. After going to check she stated that she texted him but didn't get a response but she thought he should be there in 30 minutes. I had to leave again. It takes time out of a busy workday for these appointments and this Dr. obviously has zero respect for his patient's time. Needless to say, I did not reschedule. read more

Dr. Tigran Kostanyan of Wellish Vision Institute is a great doctor. He is very professional, effective, efficient, and most of all very compassionate. I have not encountered any doctor like him in my entire life. He went out of his way to fix my scheduled appointments. In order for me to catch a flight to Hawaii, he volunteered to see me on his day off (Sunday). Yesterday, I had my right eye surgery and I did not feel any discomfort. I have been fully informed of pre-operative and post-operative instructions. I am very thankful to his wonderful staff. I need to have eye surgery, and came to this place because of my wonderful regular ophthalmologist, Dr. Perozek, who knows about my weird night owl schedule; though he'd be perfectly happy to do my surgery, he understands that it would be hard for me to comply with his own surgery schedule, with me having to show up at 6:30 a.m., and then again just past the crack of dawn the day after for the follow-up. So he recommended that I have Dr. Wellish do it, because, as owner of the surgical center, his hours were more likely to mesh with mine. How thoughtful is that?! When I visit Dr. Perozek, I almost never have to wait at all, sometimes maybe five minutes. Here I was faced with a large and full waiting room, with almost every seat taken. I suspected I was in for the long haul, and nearly four hours later I was proven right. Reams of paperwork, more than usual. Then some tests. Then a long wait in another inner waiting room. Then more tests, than another long wait in that same waiting room. I got so fed up playing my usual word games on my phone that I started reading the Yelp reviews about this place, something I would have normally done beforehand, but didn't due to the referral and promise of surgery at a time I could live with. After reading those reviews, I was not a happy camper. Finally, I was taken in to the room where I'd meet the doctor. But that's when he goes into the room to see the previous patient, so another long wait. He did introduce himself, and apologized for the long wait (with the usual "there were some emergencies" excuse), but then it all broke down. He talked really, really fast, and most of the time he was mumbling to his assistant, who was taking notes. He told me that I had astigmatism. I am no babe in the woods, have been wearing glasses since I was 9, and have never been told that. When I mentioned it, he shoved a paper with colored graphs in front of me and asked "Well, did you ever have this test?" He also told me that I had a severe case of dry eyes. Yes, I know, and I'm being treated for it. But then he produced a slick, colored brochure, outlining a complete program for dealing with the condition. All very fast, with no time to ask questions. What I was able to glean from this is that I would start out with a 5-day course of antibiotics (SUSPECT!). Then follow up with antibiotic eye ointment. I told him I had it at home, but learned later that he called it into the pharmacy anyway. Finally, there was the real money-maker: an eye medication that would be the gift that keeps on giving - from me to him - because it's not covered by insurance. I kept thinking that I was in one of those incessant medication commercials that end with "Ask your doctor about..." My husband had to go to CVS to pick up some meds for himself. I told him not to get the 5-day Z-pack, but I assumed the doctor had listened to me about the ointment. Wrong! Hubby brought it home, and I noticed that it had been prescribed with 11 refills. ELEVEN! That told me that this "program" for dry eyes was obviously a cash cow. I am distrustful of doctors who push programs that look designed to keep patients tethered to them by a checkbook. I am also distrustful of doctors who own the surgical centers in which they operate. Needless to say, I'm meeting with my regular ophthalmologist next week for a second opinion, but he will be my first and only choice. And I know he will listen to what I have to say and answer all of my questions. It'll be worth forgoing a few nights of sleep. read more

Doctor May is wonderful! He takes the time to explain everything to you and your options. I cannot recommend him enough!

And I thought it was just me! Dr. Choy was abrupt, rude, insulting, called me "ma'am" in an impatient and condescending tone and repeatedly informed me that he did not have the ability to examine me within my limitations and could not be bothered to offer or explain any available alternatives. He said that I was either going to be examined the way he wanted or he would refuse to be my provider in the future. At one point in the exam, I was so stressed by his manner and method, that I was crying. His response to this was to rudely snap "Ma'am, would you like me to give you a minute?" I was also informed that because of my reluctance to proceed with certain parts of the exam, that I might be responsible for the bill as my insurance might not pay for an incomplete exam. This was an intimidation tactic, nothing more. I provided my insurance information appx. a week before my visit yet at the end of the visit, the staff attempted to collect a payment. I had to inform them that I had met my annual out of pocket maximum and that even if I hadn't, they were attempting to overcharge me. My specialist co-pay is $40, I was asked to pay $60. I refuse to see Dr. Choy again. He clearly does not have the skill to treat a patient with my needs and is also oddly worried about getting sued. This did nothing to increase my confidence. He gave contradictory instruction, frequently told me to stop speaking when trying to clarify his instruction and attempted to touch me without fully explaining what and how he was going to do so. I was going to try a follow up appointment with Dr. Wellish but after reading these reviews, I will seek care elsewhere. read more

Arrived for appointment a little early the receptionist processed me immediately. I was taken to be examined on time surprise surprise this rarely happens at any doctors appointment so kudos to the staff. Everyone was friendly and the whole process was quick and efficient. Just an FYI everyone is required to wear a mask and the seats are labeled on where to sit. I don't know this for fact but it appeared they actually set appointments to limit amount of people in the waiting room. read more

Excellent! I had LASIK in both eyes in 2008. My experience was fantastic. The first visit was just a consultation. From there you go in for a thorough test that takes about 2 hours. They charged for this (not sure if they still do) I believe $150. If you elect to get the surgery, they take that off of the final cost. Extremely thorough. I needed a touch-up (I was warned that I might as my vision was horrible). They saw me monthly and wouldn't do that touch-up until my eye stabilized. While waiting was not fun, it proved to me how thorough they are! I probably had 10 follow-up visits and I wasn't charged a dime. After the procedure, they put a kind of "contact lens" in. It's supposed to stay for about a week. Well mine came out on a Saturday. Dr. Wellish himself met me at the institute. I can't give them enough praise! Oh and my vision is still excellent. I can tell I'll probably need a touch-up in my left eye in the next few years. After ten years, I don't mind that. And of course I wouldn't go anywhere other than Wellish. Be prepared to wait 3 to 4 hours before seeing your doctor at the Box Canyon location, so bring a book and a snack or meal with you. There are televisions in the waiting rooms showing some sort of home network program to entertain you while you wait. You will see a lot of people packed into the waiting room. Even after pre-filling all your patient information online, you will sit close to an hour in the waiting room before being escorted to an examination room. Here an assistant will ask you a series of questions one of which is, "why are you here today?" I would hope they would know why I'm there. I have been going to the Wellish Vision Institute for a year and a half and it's the same every time: the long wait, the same questions as though I'm a new patient. During my last visit, the assistant told me that I had Phorias, did not explain what it was, but tried to play it down by telling me to not worry, "a lot of people have it" and that was it. Then I became worried and assumed Dr. May would address this Phorias diagnosis: he did not. I had to ask my regular eye doctor whether this flippant diagnosis from an assistant at the Wellish Vision Center was correct. While you are sitting in the first examination room, the assistant puts a series of eye drops in your eyes and performs routine tests. Then you are escorted to another waiting room with the same home improvement program on the televisions as the first waiting room. Expect to sit in this waiting room long enough to wonder whether they forgot about you. This is a good time to have a snack or take a nap or start looking on your cell phone for another eye specialist: emphasis on the latter. Finally, when all hope seems lost, you are escorted to the last exam room where the doctor sees you. You will likely sit there for a long time. Then finally the doctor comes in and he's there for not more than 10 minutes or less. The good thing is that Dr. May is excellent. He's nice and listens to what you have to say, but again, the visit is brief. There are a lot of good eye specialist doctors in Las Vegas, so if you don't want to burn through your PTO or sick leave to wait for a max 10-minute doctor visit, then go elsewhere: I am. The reception area staff are not helpful and are particularly difficult on the phone. For example, I needed one tear duct plug and I was told over the phone that the appointment would last 2-3 hours. I asked why it would take that long to insert a tiny plug into my tear duct when it only take a few minutes. She ignored me and told me that I would need a driver because my eyes would be dilated. I asked her why they would need to dilate my eye for a tear duct plug since this was not check-up visit. Well, when I went to my appointment, I did not need a driver because they did not dilate my eyes since this was not a check-up appointment. My appointment still took two hours and 45 minutes of waiting of which 50 minutes was spent in the reception area waiting room. I am moving on to a different eye specialist elsewhere. This is sad because I really like Dr. May. He's been fantastic which is why I hung around so long. read more

So far I've only had my consultation which I thought went really well! I am sick and tired of glasses and am so excited to be getting my eyes fixed. My appointment was at 8:00 am, from the time I walked in, filled out my paperwork, had the tests done, had the consult, scheduled for my pre-op and procedure AND paid the deposit I was out within by 9:00. I worked with Taylor and I really felt comfortable with her, she answered my questions and did a really nice job. I will make sure and update my review after the actual procedure, but if you're considering a corrective procedure for your eyes the consultation couldn't hurt and it's free! read more

Brought my mom here for first time, her appointment was at 2:30 and we are still waiting and waiting and it is now 5:00 and there are 5 to 7 other patients still here. Worst Dr. office ever!
