This is my first time reviewing a bank and a Wells Fargo at that-- so my experience had to be super positive to make this possible...! Met with 3 separate bank officers and the branch manager, over the course of a few months, re a complicated wire transfer and received Excellent customer service each time. Each officer took the time to explain the process, patiently troubleshot and resolved some issues that arose and were just really kind and professional. There is always a long line with multiple employees sitting around doing nothing while people are having to wait 30 or more minutes to see a teller. There are 9 teller windows but they are never utilized! Please train the bankers that are sitting around doing nothing to work as tellers. While waiting one of the other customers asked a banker if there were more tellers available to help. She had the audacity to say "there are enough tellers to help everyone". She said this while 14 people were in line! How stupid can you be? All I can say is that the management at this place needs to be fired. Every other branch does not have this problem. read more

Ten people in line and one teller. The tellers working are always polite, it's absolutely not their fault. Wells Fargo HQ needs to hire more people and give the branch more payroll to support the amount of customers visiting this branch. This has got to be the worst bank ever! As soon as my direct deposit goes through I am closing this acct and switching to the credit union! I have had a savings acct with WF since I was about 5 years old now that I am 16 I have a job and opened up a checking acct so I can have direct deposit . I get my first 2 checks they came together my direct deposit was not set up yet so I went in to cash my checks I am paid by the County these are government checks ?! They said they have to put a hold on it? Ok this was on Jan 11 the tellar said it will be (the total amount) available on Jan 14 she said only $400.00 will be released today? I come home and I wanted to order something's from Amazon my mom said check your acct first! I called the automated system it says I have $1609.00 and my available balance is $409.00 so I spend $199.00 on Amazon . The next day I check my acct I am negative $199.00?? I called WF and the lady said yeah you did have 409.00 available but at midnight WF decided to put a hold on the entire amount and revoked the $408.00 leaving me in a negative?? And they are holding my funds until Jan 23??? They said it could be a fraudulent check??? It is a GOVERNMENT check?? Why is it talking 2 weeks to clear? This is not a personal check?? I have been a Wellsfargo customer for years. I used to like going to Newark branch, but lately I find some tellers are not as friendly as other branches. This morning I wanted to withdraw some cash and a teller, Juliet was helping. I asked her if she could find new bills or at least clean/crisp bills. She said right away " I dont have new ones", then i told her, ok i can take clean dominations of 100 or 50s to make up the amount I wanted..she said 100's or 50s?. I repeated of what i said and she repeated what she said..acting to be smart... This girl needs some basic customer service. A teller should be able to help customers need and be flexible or at least try to look at her drawer , and not being lazy or being smart!. read more

I just went to the Wells Fargo Bank in Newark in the Safeway shopping center to deposit some money in a friends account. They wouldn't accept a cash deposit. They said they only accept deposits via check. Yes.... they would NOT accept cash for a deposit. As in a federal reserve note from the USA, which is legal tender. BEWARE OF WELLS FARGO: Wells Fargo closed all my accounts because they claim that I am being scammed and that they are protecting me. Closed my all my accounts. I bank with Wells Fargo for 32 years. I tried to do a wire transfer then they declined because they say It s possible that I am being scammed , they they declined to write me a cashier check to myself and that was declined because I was withdrawing the vast amount of many on my account. Then ,they claimed my deposit was being claimed by the sending bank which is not true. The sending bank was Bank of America who wrote the Cashiers Check which they didn't mention in their correspondence with me. I send them the copy stub and have not responded to me. I tried to reply to their email through the supposedly secured email. All my response I wrote was deleted upon me hitting the sent button. So I have to rewrite it again and faxed it and still no response from the Loss Prevention Dept. Up until this point they have not released my money. I can believe an institution like that will lie about their investigation. After googling I found out I am not the only victim of Wells Fargo. I had cost me more damage than them protecting me. They did not even care how its going to affect your daily lives. BEWARE: (If you have a large amount and/or deposit a large a mount of money beware they might do the same thing to you when you suddenly want to withdraw that money.) I needed to make a deposit into my sister's account. The first person I saw, I asked for a deposit slip. He had to search for one, but evevntually found one. He was nice and courteous. After I filled out the deposit slip, I stood in line. There were six tellers. Three were with customers. Three were at their windows doing other busy work. Two of the tellers that were actually with customers were chatting about their personal lives. They had already finished the business transation. Only one teller was actually helping a customer with Wells Fargo business. As i wait there, I get to hear about how "they" are trying to get this man out of the armed services. Here's the thing, for the elderly lady who was telling the story about the military guy, this is wonderful service. The teller actually took time to listen to her and appeared to be enaged in the conversation. But for the other person who needs to get back to work and sees all these tellers who aren't helping customers with Wells Fargo business, this isn't great customer service. BLOODY TERRIBLE FROM THE SECOND YOU WALK IN. My god it's services and corporations like this that drive people to bankruptcy and robbing places like it. Honestly I've never had WORSE customer services ANYWHERE on top of that fact that I was lied to and completely disrespected. The staff smoke right outside the branch which gives your company a super bad impression to the customers. It lingers and clouds then goes into the branch whenever the doors open. Screw the coffee and food at the door. NOBODY greets you so take it upon yourself to invite yourself to a teller or a banker. I went in to close my accounts, already pissed off since I was being charged for ridiculous amounts on every single account. Do I look like I have a quarter of a million dollars to keep in my college checkin account? YEAH NO! I DON'T. They set you up with accounts not suitable for your needs not to mention they don't offer to fix the problem or apologize. I walked up to a banker. I told her I want to close all of my accounts. She grabs my ID and card doesn't talk to me for 20 minutes and does whatever she was doing. Not once looks at me, not once asks why, not once offer me something else, not once apologize for the terrible services, not once thanked for being a long time customer, doesn't even bother walking me to the teller. Doesn't tell me how I'm getting my money or that I even have any. I walk myself over and the teller tells me that I need to swipe my card when I tell her I just closed everything. She said NO SWIPE IT WORKS. Yeah I swiped and WHAT HAPPENS, no. Shit didn't work because I already told her. No apologizes just rude and takes my card. Won't give me a cashiers check for my money saids I have to pay to get that. What the bloody sh*t. The manger didn't one come over to apologize or help out. By this time, I was beyond mad and I demanded for a manager. Norman, bless his kind soul, managed to apologize for a good 30mins for his staff but no. That was the worst service ever and we're talking about money and trust. NEVER coming to a Wells Fargo again, let alone this one. Avoid it just cause its open late doesn't mean you're money is safe or you're getting the respect or service you deserve. First off, let me start off by saying this Wells Fargo Bank is located inside the Newark Market Place Shopping with the Safeway and Ross. Not sure why this Wells Fargo Branch has such low reviews. I've been here twice and have received pretty decent service and even got a free 2014 calendar! Every time we come, we get greeted upon entry and usually there isn't a line, and when there is it usually goes by fast. The tellers here are pretty nice and helpful for the most part. Parking can be a hassle though because it's inside a busy shopping center. read more

I went to Wells Fargo in Newark, CA to open a business account. I was recommended to someone by a friend and I emailed this person and asked all the requisites i needed to open a business account, she evaded my questions and made an appointment to open the business account, once I arrived she was a few minutes late which I absolutely don't mind but what I mind was her attitude, she mentioned to me several times throughout that she was giving me "special treatment' as if didn't know she isn't the owner of the place and she gets paid to do her f%^&@#$ job. I have an LLC and I'm 80% owner of this business and she couldn't open the account. I went to another Wells Fargo location in Fremont and they opened the account without any problems. I have to mention that Wells Fargo is a cheater bank and if you could open your business account at a Credit Union or Capital One it would be much better. Wells Fargo is charging me $75 monthly payment and they will charge you if you don't have at least $500 on your savings account. Research Wells Fargo and you'll find out their history and how cheap and dirty they are. read more

waste of time going in the line, short of employee and too slow service

I've been a member of Wells Fargo since 2011, opened my account at this location, haven't had too many complaints about the bank itself (other than them seemingly being more concerned about selling you on a savings account more than helping you with your problem on occasion.) Recently, I experienced a death in the family, and in the chaos ensuing, miscalculated how much I had in the bank and as a result of the one charge, coming through at a weird time, along with the fast food I had to consist on for nearly a month as I had to put affairs in order, I ended up with 11 overdraft fees, primarily on said fast food. I approached the Wells Fargo location in Half Moon Bay to try to get this resolved. I spoke with a teller there by the name of Meltem Tanner, who after apologizing for the then even more recent and fresh loss in the family, took a look at my account and asked if I had a savings account, and was so befuddled about why I wasn't getting charged even more by the bank that she brought over an associate, who then informed her I wasn't getting charged due to the fact I had Direct Deposit going into my account. Whatever, this was standard. She then took one look at the charges and said she couldn't help me, and would have to talk to the bank manager on my behalf the following Monday. Monday comes. I get a call, stating the manager was only able to reverse three out of the eleven charges, and that if I wanted any more done, to return to the location I opened my account at, 35 miles away. Right... I should have just come here to begin with, and will probably make the trip across Dumbarton every time I have a problem. When I arrived, I did have to wait for the manager to finish his business, but once I sat down with him, I had ALL charges reversed in a matter of five minutes. Jeff Fajardo was his name. If there was ever a man who could quality to be a saint, he would be it, and I cannot thank him enough for helping myself and my family in our time of need, and will always recommend him to anyone I meet that deals with Wells or will be signing up for them. read more

This Wells Fargo is close to home so it's very convenient. Every time I come to this bank I'm always greeted and helped with great customer service. I always go inside the building because I don't trust the machines outside (that's just personal reasons). The downside, whenever it gets busy there is a long line and wait. When I go there on a normal day, no line, fast service. They always take care of me. Easy deposits and transactions. A few times I've needed checks they've given them to me for free! I stopped in again and the same employees were wearing different clothes but all very Professional again and again and again, Professional clothes, Professional Attitudes This is my go to location due to the professional employees attitudes, the way they dress and professionalism during the entire transaction(s).Excellent attitudes too. I have been coming to this Wells Fargo for the last 10+ years. First thing to note is parking can be a lil tight given that Wells Fargo shares its parking lot with Safeway and other businesses in the shopping center. It's usually no trouble but something to be aware about. Walking into this branch I am usually greeted by an employee who will guide me to the right representative, depending on the reason of my visit. Once with a WF Rep, I am provided excellent customer service. They are friendly, professional and makes me feel comfortable during my visit. The average transaction time is less than 10 minutes then I am on my way. The employees are very attentive and try to make sure they have you leaving satisfied. Definitely will continue to come to this WF for all my needs. Wells Fargo is always a crooked bank to deal with. They can't do anything without taking a fee or trying to get you swindled into opening an account. Over the years they have repeatedly taken my money where other establishments would not have. I go out of my way to avoid them at all costs, but occasionally have no other choice. I know the minute I step inside I am going to leave disappointed and and feeling taken advantage of... today was no different when they charged me $7.50 to cash a $175 payroll check from a company that does their banking with Wells Fargo. Next time I will know to just go to a check cashing center or Wal-Mart when I don't want to deposit directly into my bank account (at a bank that appreciates customers). My husband went in to cash his check that he got from work. His company banks through Wells Fargo, we do not and here is a clear example as why we don't have an account with Wells Fargo. The customer service is horrible. He went in with two forms of ID., Government issued California ID and his social security card and was told that those two forms were not excepted. This wasn't his first check and he has been able to cash it at other Wells Fargo branches. I just think the employee was being lazy and didn't want to help him out. read more

I refinanced my home with Wells Fargo a while ago. I just received a check for $607.00 for an overpayment on my re-finance fees. I walked into the Newark Blvd. branch today and tried to cash their check because I did not want to drive several miles to my credit union.. They said I would have to pay a $7.00 fee unless I opened a savings/checking account. I said it is a Wells Fargo check and I have a current mortgage account. The manager said sorry. I have cashed checks for years at the banks the checks a drawn on. Wells Fargo must be desperate for money with so many people closing there accounts over the phony accounts the opened for unknowing customers. read more

Went in to pay off an auto loan I had with them, I called ahead of time to make sure there would be no issue, they assured me I just needed to bring in the payoff quote and a check for that amount. So I go to my bank and get a cashier's check for the quoted amount get my check and then drive over to this branch, I walk inside and stand in the loan/financing line and was greeted by the same person I spoke with on the phone, she walked me over to the teller line and even made sure to tell the teller when it was my turn that I was paying off a loan today, I hand the teller my payoff quote and my check and tell him that I was paying it off. The teller pauses for a moment and calls over I assume one of his supervisors to make sure he was processing it correctly, his supervisor walks over and takes a look and tells him "Just process it as a regular payment, let them figure out the numbers (I assume by them he means Wells Fargo Dealer Services, the auto loan/financing side of their company)" so the teller processes the payment hands me a receipt and tells me have a nice a day. I checked my balance this morning and see that it shows only $958.58 was paid and that I will owe a payment $84 dollars by the 4th, naturally I was a little pissed, so I call Wells Fargo Dealers Services customer support to find out what was going on, the lady on the phone informs me that by going to a branch and paying it off there it was going to cause some delay in the payoff processing, and that they are only sending the payment in parts, she also informed me that since it was only processed as a regular payment it would only apply to the principle balance and not the daily interest they charge for a payoff. The customer services rep said she would request it be reprocessed as a payoff instead, which will probably take longer. I am going to be furious if I have to pay on something that is paid off. How is it I tell 3 separate people exactly and clearly what I was wanting to do that day and they still screw it up? I will not be doing any further business with Wells Fargo for banking, credit, or financing once this account is closed, I will also most likely be closing my credit card I have with them as well. read more

I see Wells TV commercials about how they messed up and are trying to improve their customer service. I don't see this at all at the Newark branch. I made a deposit form my own bank and another institution. They put a 7 business day hold even though my funds cleared the other bank same day. I went to Wells Fargo branch and spoke to 2 managers. They were not willing to make call at my other financial institution to confirm if the funds have cleared so they can release the hold. I wonder what their responsibilities are sitting in the branch, collecting a paycheck but not be willing to help. read more

This review is for the branch near Safeway. My family have recently funded a Revocable Living Trust. We need to retitle our accounts in several different banks. This branch is the first one we try to do the retitle. The person who tried to help us is with a title called "Personal Banker." He gave us a form to fill out and said we need to do notary. We were very confused because our lawyer told us we there was no notary needed. While we were waiting for another Wells Fargo employee who could perform the notary for us (he was busy at that time), the "Personal Banker" tried to pursue us to open a regular checking account. Since the PMA Package that we have includes a Premier Checking Account, we never bother to open a regular checking account. He said Premier Checking Account is NOT SAFE. People will create fake checks and withdraw money from our account. He said we better open a regular checking account and wrote checks from that account. What!!!!???? He talked to us about how important to open the regular checking account about 10 min. We felt something wrong so we decide to leave without doing the retitle. Few days later, we went to Citibank to retitle our accounts. Sooooooo easy. After the employee made sure we are using the same tax ID for both bank accounts and the trust. We just filled out a form and signed. Conclusion: 1. Compare with other banks, the employee in this Wells Fargo branch is lack of knowledge. The true is when all trustee present in the bank, you don't need to do notary. The most important thing a bank should do is make sure the Tax ID are the same. The Wells Fargo "Personal Banker" never asked us about the Tax ID issue. Employees in Citibank and other banks that we have accounts with all gave us the right information. To Wells Fargo employee: if you don't know or not sure about this issues, you should ask your supervisor, please don't tell your customer the wrong story. 2. The checking account is NOT SAFE. We really don't know how to comment about this issue. Yes, no checking account is 100% safe. But, a bank employee tells you "our checking account is not safe." Ha ha ha... Did he try to have us open a checking account so he can get more credit? We decide to close our PMA Package and move our $$ to other bank since your checking account is not safe.
