I've been seeing Melinda for over 10 years so this review is long overdue. Melinda is the best acupuncturist I've ever seen. And I've tried 3 others in the past. She is extremely attentive, knowledgeable, and most importantly, she truly cares about her patients. She has cured me of tennis elbow in both my arms, tendonitis in my lower back, and I see her a couple times a year for the occasional back or neck sprain. I've recommended her to all my friends and family and now my mom and her friends are also going to see her. I cannot recommend her more. Accupuncture truly works for chronic pain. read more

To me, this is your typical asian office. What I like was that this office did not have that medical office, funky herbal scents or massage salon smell. The office was very clean and well kept. To me, the staff was nice and as expected. Some folks may not understand Melinda as her accent maybe strong and can come off wrong but she is nice, a very direct person and funny at times, too. I am used to that as I understand their culture. The only downside is she is the receptionist too and does not always get to the phone. Her phone skills are ok and better in person. She does offer hours from Monday -Saturday though! I really come here for the medical services she offers and from all the Yelp reviews, she does an awesome job and makes sure that all her patients have the treatments needs; all needs are different. Melinda was very thorough with explaining the procedures that she would do to my back and what she will do in my weekly appointments. I suffer from a pinched nerve on my tailbone and with that an irritated disk. I have gone here twice now and all experiences have been great. The needles are put in gently on the surface of my skin and she pushes it in by tapping it little by little. She states for it to work, it has to go, at least, half an inch below the skin! Aiy yah!! She uses a little electro machine to attach to the needle. I have to have this on for at least 20min-40 min depending on the severity of my pain that week. She states this way it will stimulate the muscles better that are inflamed. I know it will take time for my back to heal and seems to relieve the pinched pain but of course, its not a cure. I know I will have to have regular maintenance of her procedures. Good thing I am not afraid of needles! The best part was the little massage that was part of my treatment as they are severe; not all treatments will receive massages. I got it done by Annie who works Mon, Wed and Friday. For a little lady, she has some strong hands! Very nice, too! I wish she could do it for longer!! Maybe, she would if I paid her! LOL ;) I can't wait for my next week appt. The Verdict: "Great acupressure massage, acupuncture treatment with guarantee" I went here after three days of slowly recovering from a twisted back/shoulder muscle. Even after three days, I was feeling stiff, so I decided to try out eastern medicine and I'm glad I did. I was able to schedule a same day appointment for 5pm. Melinda has a L.Ac and she was friendly and courteous. She explained everything she was going to do and asked if I was okay throughout the treatment. It first started with intense acupressure (basically a deep-tissue massage in the problem area). She called in her assistant. Aside from the fact he was a male who breathed a little rough, he did a great job on my pain points. It seems like it lasted a good 30-40 mins. After he worked away a lot of the knots, Melinda came in to apply the acupuncture needles (another 30-40 mins). She explained that I might feel a little pinch and then intermittent small electric shocks to stimulate my muscles. It was very soothing and not painful at all. I think it is was more psychological than anything else. Afterward she cracked my neck muscle and this is where I got tense and freaked out even though it didn't hurt, I was a little surprised by the quick snap coming from my neck bones. The whole session was $60. Some insurance plans cover acupuncture, so check to see if yours does. Melinda even guaranteed the treatment, telling me to come back if I wasn't feeling well the next day! However there are definitely a few things that can be done to make mine and others experience better: dim the lights for relaxation, especially during the acupressure; turn the loud ticking clock down or replace it since it makes me think I'm on the clock, even though they took their time to work on me; have a basket for patients to set their close and belongings; add some lavender or nice aromatherapy to the otherwise drab room. Give these improvements, they could be a real contender with massage clinics. Would I Recommend it? Overall, if I just focus on the treatment it was worth it. I would go back especially to relieve my pulled neck muscles, which happen to me quite frequently. read more

Decided to try accupuncture for my severe back pain/spasms that I've had for over a week now that kept me home, stuck to my bed unable to move. Spasms so bad that it was way worse than labor pains, and I gave birth without anesthesia! First time here. Glad she accepts my insurance. Came in 10 min early, filled out paperwork and gave her my insurance card. Melinda brought me back right away. Gave me a gown and had me undress. She poked and prodded me until she found all my painful spots. Then she had her massage therapist Lucy do acupressure on me which felt like forever. Lucy took her time and put pressure on all my sore spots. OMG...that was what I needed! I felt really relaxed. Then she put a hot towel on my back and wiped me down. A few minutes later, Melinda came in and explained exactly what she is going to do. She put the needles in lightly first then told me to breathe and put them in deeper so it wouldn't be...too painful I guess. But I only felt one needle was painful out of the multiple ones she put. Had me lay there for 20 min. I actually fell asleep but woke myself up from the snoring! That was the first time in the past 2 weeks that I've had relief from my back spasms. After she removed all the needles she had me do some stretches and told me to do it everyday. Since this appointment, I am able to move easier, and back is feeling 80% better! I wish I saw her once the spasms started! I'd probably feel much better after a few days instead of almost 2 weeks! read more

Melinda was on the phone . She saw me but still keeps talking over the phone for like 10 minutes , looking at me waiting for her. Then answered my questions impatiently like she was rushing for something . She was very rude and did not care my pain nor listened to my concern. I paid for 30 minute massage but it lasted for like 20 minutes only. I told Melinda that I paid for 30 minute but she seems like she is rush for something and does not care at ALL. How RUDE! I came in to see Melina for neck and should pain. I found her on yelp and decided to give her a try. When I called she was able to schedule to see me the same day. The other acupuncture place I called said the next schedule is two weeks. Who can wait two weeks when you are feeling discomfort. Clinic is clean like a doctor's office. Wait time was short. She asks me to fill out a form and she came back right away and put me in a room. Dr. Li was very gentle when she put in the needles. I had an electric acupunture because my shoulder was too stiff. I didn't feel much pain and felt comfortable because she told me what she is doing. Massage after the acupuncture was super. The women who worked on me was really good at putting pressure in the target area. Only bad part I can think of was when the timer on the heat lamp was done I was laying there where my back is getting cold. I had never had acupuncture until coming to see Dr. Li 6 or 8 months ago. I noticed a reduction in my lower back pain after just one session and went back twice more. She did suggest that I should come regularly, but given that my insurance does not reimburse, I couldn't make it a habit. Dr. Li spent some time reviewing my history and then a male assistant came into do about 25 minutes of acupressure before the acupuncture. Someone mentioned that he's a heavy breather, which I also noticed, but try to keep in mind this is more of a medical office than a relaxation spa. The acupressure is just that - it's not a Swedish massage so don't be taken aback by the more aggressive approach. I'm going back again due to neck pain from a car accident and I'm really hoping for the same results. For $60 it's totally worth it. read more

I scheduled an appt to see Melinda Li due to some discomfort that I have been experiencing in my right shoulder, scapula, & neck. When I called her ofc, she answered the phone & took her time to listen to my concerns & gave me some feedback. The scheduling process was simple. I called on Friday early afternoon & was able to go in on the following day to be seen. She has a nice office in the Balentine Plaza. There is a waiting area where you fill out a quick info form regarding your visit. I was then taken into one of the treatment rooms where Melinda went over my concerns. She was kind enough to allow me to point out to her on her shoulder & neck to pinpoint exactly where the pain was. I was instructed to lie down on the treatment table & the session began. She was extremely gentle & asked me each time she inserted one of the acupuncture needles to be sure that I was OK. She then connected the electrode machine that administers the pulses. She also used a heating lamp that radiated onto the area that was being treated. During the acupuncture treatment, there was soft music playing in the background. I was told by Melinda that this treatment will last about 20 minutes, during this time she came in to check on me several times. I felt very relaxed & also felt that she really cares about your comfort. Once the 20 minutes was up, Melinda removed the needles & informed me that she would be the one who would give me the acupressure massage. I was in luck because the assistant who usually performs the acupressure was still working on another patient. My shoulder & neck is feeling better today, however I do realize that this is a process, so I will be returning to see Melinda again in the near future. If you are like me & would prefer to use "Chinese medicine" w/o having to see a Western style specialist & RX, please give Melinda Li a try. My session lasted about 1hr & the cost was $60.00. Dr. Melinda deserves more than 5 stars! She is absolutely amazing.. Been going to my physical therapy for about 3 weeks with 6 sessions to go and I felt like the stretchings and exercises they give me don't seem to do much good. I've been having mid-back pain going up to the left side of my neck, when my friend suggested that I go to Dr. Melinda. After 1 session my pain was almost gone. She did acupunture and her therapist did deep tissue massage which was so relaxing. My muscles that were too stiff had loosen up and I felt so relieved after that. I definitely recommend her to anyone who suffers whiplash or any injury. After my 2nd session I am pain free.. She has helped me out a lot.. :) read more

I went to see Dr. Melinda Li for a horrible migraine I'd been having for 3 weeks. She went through some medical issues I brought up and begun treating me. She was very informative and interested in my health. She connected cables to some of the needles on my head which delivered small electrical pulses. None of my previous Acupuncturists offered this, so I was happy to experience it. I must say, I was a little freaked out at first, but then I relaxed and managed to drool my self to sleep. This lasted about 25 minutes. Then her assistant walked in and gave me a deep tissue massage on my neck, head and shoulders for about 25 minutes. Oh, boy! This was worth every penny. I agree with the other reviewer. It would be more enjoyable if the noise was kept to a minimum or maybe they should consider masking the noise with some zen music in the background. I have a low milk supply, so I decided to try acupuncture to increase my milk supply. Making an appointment was easy, and Dr. Li was friendly and professional. After answering some questions, she explained the acupuncture process as she was performing the procedure. The needles were tiny, so it didn't really hurt aside from a teeny pinch. The pulsing electrodes didn't hurt either. The whole visit from start to finish took about an hour, and I left with hope along with a prescription for Chinese herbs to make a soup --- which I actually never did. Even without the herbal soup though, the acupuncture definitely helped my milk production at least by half an ounce. Dr. Melinda is so professional honest and ethical she is kind and very informative of the conditions and effects it has on your body. Today I came in for a sinus infection that was causing me terrible terrible head aches and she was honest with me that my best bet was to go see an ENT she was honest and say she can't guarantee anything but will try a treatment on my sinus that causing painful headaches. She even had her amazing colleague Lucy help massage ‍me and she had magical touch to relieve my aches in my neck the acupuncture did help as Dr. Melinda made it aware it would be only temporary and still insist I see specialist Dr. Melinda recommend me some Chinese herbs that help relieve my pain for the duration until I was able to be seen by a specialist when other medicine like Tylenol didn't work. To inspect my abdominal area, she started to prod it without any warning. And it felt little abrupt and not reassuring at all. I have severe head and neck pain as result of past road accident in 2001. My condition is that I have to live with pain for the rest of my life. There are too many Scar Tissues that are causing me severe pain. I have been dealing with pain for almost 15 years. When I met Dr.Melinda, I discussed with her my pain history had a session with her and she was able to relate to me very easily and alleviate the pain that I was experiencing with a combination of Au-puncture, Accu pressure massage, Heat therapy and Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS machine). I came here with a swollen and painful foot and my Dr's at Kaiser took forever to diagnose my pain aside the x-rays and blood work showed anything abnormal my foot continued to hurt very badly, I had to take time off work and wear special shoes for support, because I couldn't wait any longer to be seen by my dr at Kaiser I searched around for acupuncture in hopes that it will treated foot everywhere I called no one was able to take me on as an emergency. My wife visited couple of times for fertility issues (pcos), melinda is knowledgable. She gave sound advice without pressure, suggested to take 1 or 2 cycles off from medication to recover health through acupuncture, worked with us while my wife was going through medication/iui, timing the sessions between treatments. My wife was very glad to have Lucy massages. We only visited 6-8 times (3 months) and my wife is pregnant. We have been trying for 2 years before this through medication, I can't say how much acupuncture made difference/coincidence (as we did medication + IUI) that it happened just when we visited Melinda for few sessions. I first saw Melinda about 6 years ago when I went out on workman's comp for carpel tunnel. I had gone through steroids and physical therapy treatments with no improvement. I decided to try acupuncture because I wanted to return to my job. A co-worker recommended Dr. Li., so on my own insurance I started treatments from her. I've been going to Melinda to treat my eczema and allergies and her treatment has really helped! I've seen several dermatologists and allergists and used many steroids but it hasn't really helped as well as the acupuncture and herbal medicines have. The office is very clean, it's easy to make an appointment and she accepts medical insurance. Melinda is knowledgeable and is very gentle with the needles. They're very small and I don't feel much at all. She leaves the needles in for about 20 minutes while spa like music is playing and you can nap away. I am a very reluctant patient to begin with mainly I have a negative concern about alternative medicine. However, my wife is a faithful patient of Dr. Li. I am experiencing intermittent pain on my right shoulder lately. My wife encourages me to give acupuncture treatment a try. I got an appointment with Dr. Li. She did a thorough physical examination during our first visit, and then outlined a treatment plan consisting of acupuncture treatment couple with deep tissue massage, and a series of isometric exercise. The first and second treatments did not produce any relieve, and I expressed my disappointment to her. Two things impressed me: 1) Instead of brushing my concern aside, she asked me to set up another appointment to review what she had done so far and if needed she will offer another treatment plan. 2) She was able to communicate frankly i.e. saying things that I need to hear, instead of things that I want to hear. After the meeting, she said that I have a pinch nerve that the deep tissue massage did not address sufficiently and recommended that we try acupressure therapy. She then emphasized the need to perform the isometric exercise which I had neglected to do. She made me realized that it is also my responsibility to work with her in order to expedite my recovery. Although I am still behind in keeping up with the exercise regiment, the new treatment plan is working. I would say that Dr. Li's expertise, skill, compassion, and no nonsense communication have won me over as a believer. It is very refreshing to have a medical practitioner that is willing to take the time to talk to the patient let alone listen to what the patient has to say. She listens to my concern, and takes the extra mile to address the issue. Dr. Li has set a new standard for the acupuncture professionals to attain.
