We stayed at Wentworth Mansion from December 21-26, 2025, and it was truly a wonderful experience. Our room (Room #1) was very spacious and beautifully appointed, with a sitting/sunroom area and an outdoor terrace. Everything was spotless, and the property was impeccably maintained. The service was absolutely above and beyond--attentive, warm, and professional at every level. While the property is on the pricey side, it is well worth it for the experience. The complimentary breakfast at Circa 1886 was delicious and a fantastic added perk. Highly recommend taking advantage of it. One helpful note: if you book through Hilton Honors, you can take advantage of Hilton Honors benefits and offerings. If you book directly through the hotel, those benefits do not apply. The Wentworth Mansion is an amazing small historic hotel. Walking around the mansion you see a part of the history of the house. In guest rooms you have the wonderful old house with hardwood floor cracking sound that holds tons of history. The gardens are beautiful and well kept. What sets this place apart though is the amazing service received by Kevin- It is clear how much Kevin cares about the Mansion and its guests. I am so happy they are affiliated with Hilton Hotels now- This is a fantastic place to stay and explore. read more

Absolutely amazing in every way. Bryan, the concierge, could not be more personable and professional. Mark was also very friendly. There was not one detail that they missed. In the morning there was always hot coffee and pastries in the parlor and a hearty breakfast at Circa 1886. They had iced tea in the afternoon and horderves with wine in the early evening. We did the Model A experience - twice. The tour guide, Mr, Crane, was exceptional and the car transport one back in time. I could not recommend this place and experience more. Just WOW. Our 2 night stay here was everything I could have hoped it would be and more... I mean who wouldn't want to stay in a magical historic mansion? I have had Wentworth Mansion on my hotel bucket list for a number of years and could not be happier with our experience. We stayed in room 1, which is a garden room with a cute little outdoor patio. The room was very spacious and felt like we had stepped back in time...but with electricity! We took advantage of the big whirlpool tub both evenings which was a treat. The bed was incredibly comfortable, with lovely linens and great pillows. The room had every amenity we needed, including ice which they filled up each after/evening. Little chocolate/sweets each night in our room, the full complimentary breakfast, afternoon lemonade and incredibly friendly/tending staff made our time memorable! From the moment we arrived in the private parking area until we left the next day it was a 5 star experience. Complementary glass of champagne at checkin, a brief tour of the mansion with history on the way to our room, our Garden Suite with stocked refrigerator with a selection of beverages, happy hour and the opportunity to visit with other guest, assistance during our stay, the breakfast in the Circa 1886 restaurant and sadly our checkout. Everyone was friendly, helpful and professional. The location of the property was great. We decided not to bring our dog but now wish we should have. Many "dog friendly" establishments are dog "tolerant "....not the case here. I witnessed a true dog friendly environment.....next time Pippa will get to go. read more

**5-STAR HOTEL WITH OK EXPERIENCE** For $500+ a night, we expected better. CHECK-IN We did appreciate the early check-in at 3pm instead of 4pm. Another person escorted us to our room to show us around. After 15 minutes inside our room, someone knocked on the door to put small vases inside. We thought the timing was off for that. RATING: 3/5 ROOM 12 We had a spacious room with a whirlpool tub (that didn't work). The bed was nice with legit pillows and bedsheets. RATING: 4/5 BREAKFAST It was supposed to be a full menu, but we had ONE choice of an array of items. I ordered the shrimp and grits. Not the BEST shrimp and grits or award-winning, but slightly above average. My ordered OJ tasted like mimosa, not sure why. The atmosphere was super quiet with guests. It felt like everyone was whispering. RATING: 3/5 CHECK-OUT At 10am, the housekeeper was banging at our room door. We were confused, did she not see the DO NOT DISTURB sign on the door? The front desk said that it was common, in case we needed towels. Really?? What if we were sleeping in? RATING: 2/5 A day later, my husband called the hotel to inquire about his pink shirt he left behind. The staff said they'll call him back. Guess what, they never did. Sad face. :( OVERALL: We liked their wine hour and the complimentary WSJ newspaper. Free parking, not "valet service" because there was no bell boy to greet us or carry our bags in the rear parking lot. Not the best 5-star hotel experience we've had, but not the worst. Stunning hotel, rich in history and architecture. I'm so glad we stayed here while we were in Charleston. The staff at the Mansion went above and beyond, our every desire was fulfilled. The bed was super comfortable, the bathroom was as big as some NYC apartments and the little balcony was adorable! We dined at the on-site restaurant, Circa 1886, and it was AMAZING!!! The "grilled cheese" appetizer was the most original and decadent dish I've had in quite some time. I highly recommend it. My husband and I visit Charleston on a family trip every summer and we like to try a different B&B every year, but I think we may have to just keep coming back to the Wentworth because it was just too good. read more

My husband and I stayed here for 3 days and 2 nights. It was everything you would expect. We will only stay here when we visit Charleston. They made us feel so welcome. My husband forgot to pack the toothpaste. So we called down to see if they sold it. The bellman went to the local store to buy it for us. We were so impressed. They cleaned the rooms daily. We were greeted anytime we enter or left. Every evening they treated us to Port and chocolate truffles (2). They serve hors d'oeuvres and wine from 6-7 but we never made it. The bed was comfortable. The room was immaculate and wonderfully quiet all the time. That was wonderful. The peace and quiet was so relaxing. The room had a large soaking tub and comfortably sized shower. The location is perfect for site seeing. We walked all over Charleston. We went threw the famous Charleston Market. Then the nicer downtown boutiques. They have a street that has several high end shops. We walked about 10 miles in 2 days. It was so fun. We were able to see and do so much because of the prime location of this hotel. The hotel had a lovely back garden. It had several benches for people. They also had an air conditioned sunroom overlooking the gardens. We really enjoyed our stay. All COVID rules are being followed here, we are visiting Charleston and wanted to stay at a super nice historic home , the Wentworth Mansion is beautiful, the folks working here go above and beyond , the afternoon wine and cheese was a nice touch, we stayed in room2 "the Mansion room"the nice thing about this room is an additional entrance in the back, the room has a very comfortable king bed, gas fireplace, separated sitting area with couch and TV , the bathroom has a jetted garden tub with separate shower, we really enjoyed our stay here and when we wanted to see the sights, we were hooked up with Kathryn Abrams 1-503-267-2986 she is a private tour guide that was very knowledgeable and had a great energy , great tour of the city, this will be a trip we will long remember, we highly recommend read more

My first time inside the Mansion itself and this was to meet a client from out of town. Once before, I have been in the restaurant (also expensive). Upon walking into this place, the wood trim is what struck me first, then the ornate tile floors, the cool temperature (perhaps as the first floor and lobby are not well lit by natural light) and the friendly and efficient desk clerk. I was directed into the parlor and thus sat myself in a luxuriously soft chair. There was the fireplace looking at me, and thus I just "had to" take a photo and submit that photo. Just walking in, and sitting in the parlor for an hour was great, and probably (I cannot tell) the rooms are of the nature, age and grandeur of the Grove Park Inn. read more

This was an easy 5 stars! Wow!! From the moment we made our reservations, the Wentworth staff were always there for us making sure we had what we needed. All staff members provided recommendations, made reservations, and delivered a great stay. The hotel itself is a great piece of history which provides for the opportunity to experience something unique. If you like boutique lodging, you cannot go wrong here. The room #12 was huge!! Much larger than we had expected. The furniture and furnishing were classic but comfortable. The mood in the room was set to the history of the building. The bathroom provided tons of space and privacy. The classic wood floors creaked and squeaked as you walked on them from time to time which added to the experience. The room has been modernized with central and heat which was great! The location of the hotel is perfect. East walk to the waterfront and shopping on King Street. The whirlpool tub in the room didn't work. Staff offered no refund or to move us to a different room. The breakfast was terrible because the lady who prepares the waffles thinks they need to be well done and overcooked. If you complain about anything, they just disregard it because they are known as highly rated and stick their nose in the air as if you are privileged because they accepted your reservation. It's late on a stormy Friday evening at this grand old mansion/hotel a few blocks off King Street on the peninsula in Charleston. It's kind of a spooky place that reminds me of visiting my rich old aunt's house back in the fifties. Squeaky parkay floors, large sleigh bed, adjoining library/sunroom (I spent an afternoon on the couch reading a book I pulled from the shelf, what a treat) dark hardwood trim and tiled bathroom larger than most motel rooms, this is a grand Charleston experience. My bride and I came here on a whim and so far have had a fun time. As others have noted, this place has a lot of added value. Convenient, free parking, free breakfast, free cokes and water in the fridge, free wine and snacks in the evenings, all help the top end rates seem not so harsh. The staff was welcoming and efficient. The concierge and bellman reminded me of Keven Spacey and John Cousack in the 1997 movie "Midnight In The Garden Of Good And Evil": Deliciously mysterious and only slightly menacing! A lot of classic Southern charm that only Charleston can offer. If you want a five star experience (and want to try something other than the corporate chains) it features luxurious furnishings in quiet, private suites that make great retreats after a day of shopping. An on site spa and five star restaurant only make it better. read more

Where to begin! There's so many wonderful things my husband and I enjoyed during our stay for our honeymoon. We especially loved the Circa breakfast (they feed you so well!), turn down service and chocolates as night. The mansion is beautiful and even more so with their Christmas decorations. We enjoyed just sitting in the reading room or sun room in between our activities which I think is rare to find at a hotel. We also thought the location was perfect - away from the hustle and bustle but not too far of a walk (even more appreciated after a big meal!). The view at the top was an amazing treat as well. This truly is a mansion. As soon as you walk through the well curated and cared for gardens, through the grand and well kept historical doors, you are welcomed. The staff is always helpful and courteous. The rooms are large and airy. They went out of their way to provide me with a balcony, which I fully enjoyed in the evenings. The soaker tubs are large and both of my rooms, the bedroom and the bathroom, had fireplaces. They were cozy and enchanting on cool nights. Housekeeping is attentive, leaving weather forecasts for your home locale and for Charleston, as well as chocolates made on the property. They aren't stingy with toiletries or towels, and that's appreciated. Breakfast from their restaurant, Circa 1886, is included, and is not your ordinary complimentary breakfast. We had the frittata, avocado toast, homemade yogurt and granola, and the pancakes, all good. They have evening hor d'oeuvres made by Circa 1886 as well, and complimentary wine, sherry, and other spirits out at all times. They also include a fridge stocked with drinks daily--sodas, sparkling water, regular water. Like the last independent historic inn I stayed in, the bed was much firmer than I prefer, but that's the only thing that wasn't perfect. This place is luxurious and beautiful. I wish we had more time to spend here to explore its original structures, antiques, stained glass, and hidden corners. The cupola offered gorgeous 360 degree views. We stayed at the Wentworth Mansion from December 29 until January 4. Our experience was outstanding from start to finish. Every member of the staff we made contact with contributed to our wonderful stay. In no particular order, Zack, Dillon, Michael, and Stephanie are all names that come to mind that gave us exceptionally warm and welcoming service. There were others whose names escape us now, but also contributed to our experience. The Wentworth is a stunning edifice, actually more impressive in person than in the online photos. We were more than delighted with our suite (Number 9), which exceeded expections in virtually every respect. We especially loved the gas fireplace on a timer and the very comfortable bed. The lounge areas on the main level were beautiful. Having pastries and coffee in the morning was especially convenient when we didn't always have time for a full breakfast. The " cordial station" of port, sherry and brandy available 24/7 was a particular treat. Being there during the Christmas season, we especially loved how beautifully decorated the common areas were. We felt like guests in a Victorian-era private hotel. We dined once at Circa 1886, the on-site restaurant and that was the special 6 course NYE meal. It truly was a 5 Star experience. The food and service quality were superb. And we made a smart, on the spot decision to go with the wine pairing accompaniment. This took an already exceptional meal to an even higher level. This was our first visit to Charleston. We are experienced travelers and have stayed in many luxury properties in Europe and North America. We were hard pressed to find any areas of dissatisfaction here, beyond trivialities . As indicated, Wentworth Mansion has the feel of a private hotel, including the warmth and intimacy that few hotels provide. A quintessential boutique hotel in Charleston's historic quarter. The first time I stayed here I didn't review it because frankly I didn't want to spread the word. If you visit Charleston, this is the hotel to book. The Planters Inn is also a good option, although you can't really compare the two- WM is just exquisite. We were in, I believe, room 16. Had a nice view, but the room was so luxurious & beautiful. Nothing was overlooked and the bed & furnishings were beautiful. The suite is huge with a separate living area and huge mahogany poster bed. The bathroom was bright with white carerra marble and vintage brass fixtures and a large tub. The staff was knowledgeable and very attentive & courtious. A real 5 star gem. I would absolutely stay there again, if we go back. I have visited other Southern towns, but this really was the creme of the crop and represents southern elegance and charm at its highest.The way they modernized bathroom & still kept with the integrity of the original home was flawless. The epitome of what a B&B should be. I picked Wentworth Mansion on a whim because it's one of the few places in Charleston that allows pets. They had one of the few rooms they allot for guests with pets open and it was $349. That may seem high but there's free parking, wi-fi, cooked to order breakfast in the restaurant Circa 1886, an in-room fridge with complimentary soda and water, coffee and pastries in the morning and hors d'oeuvres in the evening. As you can tell the list of perks is quite lengthy. This is easiliy the best hotel/inn/B&B I've ever stayed in. read more

My husband and I stayed at the Wentworth Mansion for two lovely nights in April. This is a beautiful historic home that was beautifully converted into an inn. Our room was on the garden level with a bedroom, fireplace, sitting room and large bathroom. The bed was very comfortable and we never had any issues hearing any of the other guests either pass by our room or walking above. The evening appetizer and wine hour was very nice, as was the daily breakfast in the morning. I have no hesitation recommending staying here; absolutely perfect. read more

We've been here about 5 times over 15 years. We've stayed on the top floor, bottom floor, and have visited in various lengths, spanning 1 night to 6 nights. The owner is nice, staff amazing. Most of the staff are college kids and they're pleased to work here. I don't mean to sound like they're servants. We always ask them for candid dining advice and they always give us great places to dine. They do recommend the onsite restaurant always, but we ask for lunch advice. One person there recommended the Peninsula grill for dinnner, and we are eternally grateful as that's the best restaurant to which I've been worldwide. The onsite restaurant is actually fantastic as well (Circa 1888, I think it's called). It's usually quiet here, beds always comfortable, place always clean. The other guests are not snobby... this place is upscale, charming, Southern, and has that quirky Charleston feel.. which I can't explain. Just watch the Clint Eastwood movie about Savannah, GA, "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil ..." and that might only begin to describe the Charleston SC feel. The wentworth mansion is one of the top places to which we've ever been. My ONLY caution is it's far from King Street. We never minded the walk, but others might. Its lack of CLOSE proximity to king st also means it's QUIET. The sidewalks are in a bit of disrepair by Wentworth because of tree roots, but each time we visit Charleston, we walk likely 10 miles daily, if not more. You can reserve a taxi, but that's hardly worth the 6+ block drive (might be less than 6, can't recall exactly). One of my favourite things was simply walking the nearby residential areas during evenings, a step back in time. If you go too far, you will end up in a very bustling area of Charleston.. towards King Street is far nicer.. the other direction is urban in feel, in a bad way (noisy). read more

Pretty phenomenal experience staying here in Charleston, SC, in a secluded, tree-lined neighborhood, not too far from the touristy downtown area. Close enough to partake of the wonders that are Charleston, but far enough way to feel you are "away from it all." This is an old mansion, once owned by a wealthy planter (with a wife and 13 children), who paid $200,000 for it in the 1800s. That's equivalent to $5 million today, if you're counting. It is about 3-4 floors, with a beautiful spiral staircase leading to a gratifying view of the entire city on the rooftop. The outside staircase has two ways up, and a gorgeous fountain that bubbles over. (There is also an elevator if you need it, or prefer, and a small parking lot if you drive here). The rear garden is so lovely, you may just sit out there doing nothing, wondering at the lush trees and fragrant grass. It has 21 luxurious rooms, replete with velvet draperies, intricate wooden shutters, Italian crystal chandeliers, hand-carved marble fireplaces, and Tiffany stained glass windows (yes, THE Louis Comfort Tiffany). Real art and furniture from the period, or suggestive of it, adorn the walls. Books are on shelves and elegant, period style furniture. They use real old fashioned keys, (not the ubiquitous and philistine "key cards"), that go in a real key hole, not a digitized panel. You are here in another world. It is a marvel. Yet, you do not miss for modern conveniences, such as a large (2-shower head) tiled shower with superior water pressure, and a separate bathtub, hair dryer, iron, and a discreetly stowed away television. WIFI is excellent and included. You have a downy bathrobe in your closet, but you can also ask for slippers to match, and they will be brought (and given) to you. The hospitality of the staff is BEYOND. The concierge waited up for us when we had trouble with our (horrid, American Airlines) flight, and still showed us around (quietly and serenely), despite it being after midnight. All of the staff acted as though it was their mission in life to assist you. (Kudos to you Mike, Mark, Tim, Ebony, and the rest of you whose names are escaping me!) There is always a paper at your door, a door being opened for you, your bags being lifted from you, bottled water being offered to you, iced tea and lemonade in the parlor, turn-down service with truffles and "bennies," (the sesame Charleston wafer delicacy, unique to the area.) They have flavored seltzer water and Cokes in the mini fridge (no extra charge, of course). And everyday a social hour at 5pm with hors d'oeuvres and wine. And for those who need a nightcap, a (crystal) bottle each of brandy, port, rum, and something else extravagant, just out for your taking. Every morning has croissants and fruit, and coffee. But if you want your own coffee, at a different hour, don't hesitate to ask. They will make it for you special, in a carafe, with white table cloths. (None of this pedestrian Keurig stuff). Same with hot tea, and they have a perfectly embarrassing number of beautifully arranged tea choices for your selection. A hot breakfast is included and is hot and to order, with a server who should be on Broadway, he is so charismatic and perfectly suited to the role of server. If you go here, DO NOT LEAVE WITHOUT TRYING their shrimp and grits, a Charleston specialty. They do this one at the top of their game. Their hotel restaurant (Circa 1888) is top notch. I am not surprised that they told me they are one of the two best hotel restaurants in the country. There is also a spa. (I did a separate review of it). This is the reason that I pay my hard-earned money when I go on vacation. Treat me like I'm one of the 0.1%! It was shockingly and oppressively expensive. And worth it. read more

The Wentworth Mansion was the 2nd largest private residence in Charleston, until it was converted into a fabulous 5-star hotel. It's small with only 20 rooms, and feels like a home-away-from-home. We stayed in a Mansion room, with 25-feet ceilings, original hardwood carvings, a fireplace, and a huuuge bathroom: I've stayed in my share of luxury hotels, but I've never seen a room as elegant and authentic as this one. The service is perfect. When we drove onto the parking lot, a bellboy immediately came to help with the luggage. We received complimentary champagne in the room on arrival, and with the turn-down service they placed a whole bunch of votive candles in the room. At 5pm there is free wine and hors d'oeuvres. They also made a reservation for a carriage ride, and they can make all kinds of other arrangements. One suggestion: if you - as the other reviewer 'Scott C.' mentions - want to have a "very, very sexy time", you probably want to avoid room 5, which is right next to the parlor and the lobby (otherwise it's a great room). The next time we go to Charleston we'll go to the Wentworth Mansion again, if we have the budget. It's pricey, but totally worth the money. read more

It's so rad you may just stay in your room and gaze upon it, despite the historical splendor surrounding you in Charleston. They pay attention too. Absolutely GORGEOUS! Our very well appointed room was large and cozy at the same time. You factually felt like you were sleeping in the master bedroom of an old southern mansion. Our room was my favorite hotel room that I have ever stayed in. On the roof there is a turret where you get 360 degree views of the city. Not only was the hotel beautiful, the staff was incredibly curteous and knowledgable. But, it's not a typical hotel. For instance, if you are fond of sleeping in, expect to see the housekeeping staff lurking outside of your door. Most guests are up and at 'em well before noon. TIP: skip the hotel's restaurant, Circa, it is waaaaay over hyped. read more

After two nights at the Holiday Inn near the airport, the BF and I stayed at Wentworth for 4 night. The house is gorgeous and it really felt like you were at home the entire time. We had the room on the second floor in the East Wing and I LOVED it. It was nice to be off the main house and have windows all around the room. There is a fireplace in the bedroom and one in the bathroom. The evening wine and hors d'oeuvres were nice, but they were gone in like 20 mins on Friday and Saturday. A perk is the complimentary breakfast and prix fixe deal at Circa 1886 for hotel guest. We didn't know about the prix fixe for dinner until the waiter told us, and i was pleasantly surprised that we could just pick whatever is on the menu, since most prix fixe has a separate menu. The only bummer for me was that the hotel was further than I thought from a lot of the restaurants. It only became an issue at night because the streets are really dark at night and there were a few blocks that we walked down the first night that we avoided afterwards. After my boyfriend booked the rooms, the concierge was in contact with him immediately checking to see what they could do to help us. They were able to get dinner reservations for us, which was extremely helpful. The BF also got passes from the hotel to use a gym down the street (i think it's about 6 blocks away) and he said it's not bad. Overall I'll definitely want to come back again. read more

The staff at the Wentworth Mansion really helped make our recent honeymoon to Charleston perfect. Everyone at the hotel was extremely hospitable, accommodating and efficient. We loved the fact that the hotel only offers 21 rooms - it makes the experience very intimate and personal. When we returned from dinner our first evening there, we arrived to a bottle of champagne and beautiful note from Lori at concierge congratulating us on our marriage. Complimentary breakfast each morning at Circa 1885 was a nice touch, as the menu offers fresh, healthy options in addition to some delicious daily specials. We also treated ourselves to a couples massage at the spa, which was the best massage both of us have ever had. If you're on a romantic vacation and looking to relax, this hotel is definitely worth considering. read more

My wife and I just spent our honey moon in this hotel and we couldn't be happier with our choice. Wentworth mansion is truly a unique experience. The southern hospitality the staff showed us was charming and like nothing we have experienced at any other hotel. The room itself was gorgeous, king size bed, plenty of windows, fireplace, balcony and a large luxurious bathroom just to name a few. A bonus for us was the fact the room was wired with speakers so we could plug in our iPod and listen to our own selection of music, whilst taking a bath or sitting on the balcony enjoying a cigar. Every time we left to go downtown (it seemed) we returned to an immaculately cleaned room, and once champagne on ice with a card from the staff congratulating us on our wedding. They have lots of reading rooms by the lobby with books, and hors d'oeurve at about five daily. Also if you need a night cap, they have a selection of port and some other spirits for you. Exploring the hotel you can see the beautiful architecture and also make your way to the roof. Going up a winding stair case you have access to a great 360 degree view of the city. Siting and watching the sunset with my wife was one memory we wont forget. The connected spa was incredible. We had a 90 minute couple massage, and it was worth every penny. The lady I had got all the knots out of my back, and went to town on my muscles. By the end I felt like I had just experienced a transcendent moment and was so very relaxed. My wife had a similar experience. The restaurant Circa 1886 was delicious. Complimentary breakfast came with our stay, so we ate it practically every morning for a week. We fell in love with grits and sausage. The freshness of the food (including the coffee) was stellar. Even now writing this back in New York we are thinking about how we want grits in the morning...... So if I could give this place six stars I would. You just have to stay and see it for yourself.
