Our Breakfast Group went to Werewolf on 4th in the Gaslamp. We started off with Werewolf Double Bloody's that were really great and full of flavor. Two people ordered the Speciality Mimosas and said they were fantastic. We ordered Chilaquiles Roja, Pork Belly Benedict, Biscuits & Gravy, Blueberry Lemon Cakes and Country Fried Steak. I can honestly say that each (yes we share) breakfast entree was great. However, the Pork Belly Benedict was phenomenal. The eggs and pork belly were both cooked perfectly. They were seasoned well. The potato cake was really good. The Blueberry Lemon Cakes were also just amazing. The whipped cream and powdered sugar provided just enough sweetness without being too sweet. I would order any of the entrees again.I will be going back very soon. Hopefully Werewolf will have added pitchers of Double Werewolf Bloody's. Had a great experience at Werewolf Bar & Restaurant! Morgan, our server, was fantastic--friendly, attentive, and made the experience even better. The prices were reasonable, and the food was delicious. The pancakes were especially good and sweet enough that we didn't even need syrup! One thing to keep in mind is that they add an extra 4.5% fee to the bill called the HOH (Heart of House) fee, which goes toward the upkeep of the establishment. They do say it's voluntary and can be removed, but realistically, who's going to ask to have it taken off? Well, first of all, this is a very cool spot and I kind of got caught in between brunch and lunch so I didn't eat as much as I normally would. But the one word that describes this place is service and Ruby. Every single person had a huge smile on their face and couldn't wait to help. I was with a large group of friends for a farewell brunch. This restaurant didn't have anything vegan friendly. I thought at the very least, I could get an avocado toast. For a brunch spot, they don't have toast! When I tried to order a toast with a side of avocado, I was told they didn't have toast, but could get a biscuit. I went with that, but as I was eating the biscuit with avocado, it dawned on me that most biscuits have butter or dairy as an ingredient. Ugh! My friends consist mostly of omnivores and a few vegetarians. Everyone else was happy with their orders. The service was fast and friendly. I've been here twice now, and both visits were before a Padres day game for brunch. Both times the food was absolutely phenomenal. My first visit I ordered the sausage and gravy, and the second time I went with the Cali burrito. They were completely different dishes, but both were fantastic and packed with flavor. The service is what really sets this place apart, though. On both visits our servers were attentive, friendly, and always one step ahead. I especially love that they actually ask for your name and then remember it throughout your meal. It's such a small touch, but it makes you feel genuinely welcome and says a lot about the quality of people they have working there. The spacing of the seating is kind of weird and the bar takes up about half the restaurant. It was half full when I got there with two bartenders and one server. I sat at the bar assuming I would get quicker service, which was not true. I ordered a coffee and a blue plate, which was basically cheesy chive scrambled eggs, breakfast potatoes, and a biscuit. The original plate comes with bacon but I subbed it for avocado. The food came out warm (not hot), but I was hungry so I didn't say anything. The eggs, although delicious, were not made with chives, but rather with green onion. The biscuit was dry and came with a pat of butter and some packaged jam. The breakfast potatoes were crispy and well seasoned, however, most of them were burnt or just the scraps at the bottom of the fry basket. Disappointing. The one good thing about this place (other than the friendly staff), is that it might be the cheapest breakfast you can get in Gaslamp. Which is right up my alley. This happened to be karaoke night. This may be an unpopular option but I'm not a fan of karaoke. If you are, you're golden. I would've enjoyed the ambiance a bit better on a standard night. We sat at a wooden booth in the back of the restaurant. Service (3/5): You order at the bar (both food and drinks). They were fairly busy on a Wednesday and only two bartenders were working. As a result, service was a bit slow. After placing my order, I closed out. Their cocktail list doesn't list prices. Not a fan of that. I asked the bartender how much some particular cocktails cost, and he didn't go. Not a good look. Drinks (4/5): Werewolf has an interesting list of craft cocktails. Plus a full bar. Just list your cocktail prices on the menu! Food (4.5/5): The food is surprisingly quite good. I went with the wings appetizer (and made them sticky for a dollar extra). Sweet with a little kick. The wings were fried just right with a crispy exterior and juicy inside. Finger-lickin' good! I also couldn't say no to papas balls lol. Werewolf has great food and a great atmosphere! We walked over to grab some lunch, and it was pretty quiet. Not sure if it's normally like that on the weekend during lunch or if it's because the streets were closed for the annual pet parade that was happening. We entered the restaurant to some awesome music by an awesome DJ! There's a bar that takes up half the restaurant and eclectic decor all over. We ended up ordered off the brunch menu as there was so much good stuff on there! It had been years since I have been down to the gas lamp area so part of the allure besides the name was the location. It is the quintessential college town, bar area, downtown (city) collection of people. Menu had strong suggestions, happy hour had 50% off appetizers, and prices were very fair. I ordered the Beets/ Brussels/ and Blue salad. It stated it had golden beets which you don't see on many menus and unfortunately is the reason I am giving a 4 for this location, there was not one golden beet in my salad, in fact, there wasn't even one beet. Blue cheese crumble was minimum, and the Brussels were pan fried, to the edge. I also ordered the Hot Chicken Sandwich. This was good, the chicken thankfully slathered in Franks red hot was trying to hide the "blackened" fried chicken. Just on the edge but it was still enjoyable. The star of the food... was the fries. Crisp, hot, lightly salted, and retained the heat and crispiness through me eating the whole sandwich. I am eating healthier today and wasn't planning on any fries, but I did enjoy a few.
