I moved to Alameda during this pandemic when ALL business were closed. I would walk by Wescafe and so wished it was open. I appreciated the decor, when I peaked in the window, as well as their obvious support for the Black Lives Matter movement. When they opened, I was there, buying their housemade sanitzier, affordable, well-priced espresso drinks and, their pastries! Let me tell you about how fantastic their housemade scones are! They are so tasty that I find myself wanting to get one daily. Although I literally can't afford that on my current budget, when I do get one, I always enjoy them. Also, their back patio for SD seating is tranquil and lovely to sit in any time of the day that they are open. If you haven't been to Wescafe, go, now. They have a fabulous breakfast menu that is also very well-priced for the Bay Area and always looks delicious when I see it being served. The ample seating, wide variety of specialty drinks (alcoholic beverages included) and food, wifi, and patio seating make Westcafe a great place to catch up with friends, get work done, or just enjoy a cup of coffee! The food menu includes a variety of sandwiches, bar bites, and a daily selection of quiche, pastries, and other baked goods. They've got a great selection of draft beers and bottled beverages too for those of you looking something other than coffee. I was definitely impressed with the selection of food and drink items that this place has to offer! The zucchini quiche I tried was decent and came with a side salad for around $8? For food and a drink, I would say expect to pay $10. Moreover, it's a clean and friendly space and the staff are friendly, which is also a plus in my book. I would definitely recommend this place for anyone looking to crack down on some work especially given its proximity to the College of Alameda main campus. I found it amusing that the music that's played on the speakers is EDM, but either way, I suppose it could be conducive to studying...? Anyhow, if the music doesn't suit you, there is plenty of seating in the back patio and is perfect especially on a warmer day. All in all, a great new spot for anyone looking for a cafe on Webster! I'll start my saying that the nicest people work here. A little kindness goes a long way! I went here over the weekend, this is the cutest cafe I've been to so far in Alameda! The inside has a rustic theme going on, the patio in the back is so charming. So I wasn't planning on getting anything. I just need a cup of water for my puppy, but I ended up ordering a ham and cheese croissant, I added spinach (I needed some type of veggie, since it was closer to the afternoon). It was really good, everything about the croissant was amazing and they definitely didn't skimp on the fillings! I will be coming back to try more of the menu, now that I fell in love with this place. read more

When Wescafe moved to their new, larger location just down the street, I had to check it out. Upon first inspection it seemed to be, quite possibly, the perfect cafe. The food is very good, the pastries delicious, the coffee is decent and the atmosphere can accommodate pretty much any taste... Unfortunately, the service is subpar. I've gone there many times by myself or with my girlfriend only to find the service is exactly the same every time. The people who work there a very nice but, if you were to order a sandwich it's 90 percent likely you won't get any silverware, napkins, hot sauce, catch up or anything like that unless you ask for it later but it's kind of hard to get their attention sometimes. Another unfortunate thing that I've experienced there is I'll order a burrito or sandwich, it doesn't really matter what I order, but I'll go sit down and wait for it and everyone in line behind me will get their food before me. It just stood out to me as being pretty odd, especially since it happened multiple times, but I don't really see any reason why some people get their breakfast burrito in 20 minutes and others in less than 5. I've decided that it's not worth my time to go there anymore, which is a shame because the owner is a nice guy and except for the service it's a great cafe. read more

Outdoor sitting was a bit too cold. Their breakfast burrito was huge. Their coffee wasn't that impressive. It is spacious but can get loud. I like the big tables though. Overall, it is good to go with a friend fora lighter workload. Not a place you would go by yourself and focus quietly. I still would come some times to read and get some brunch. read more

This place has great food l, great staff and is really cute, but the hours are sooooooo inconsistent. It's very frustrating when you go online to check when an establishment closes, it's says a specific time, you go to the establishment to find out that the kitchen is closed and that they actually close at a completely different time. They have no hours posted on their door but have INCORRECT hours posted online. Please fix this issue. It's disappointing and inconvenient. read more

Came here for brunch for the first time for my mom birthday and to start off the service was good and it's in a nice area as well as having a nice ambience setting. Only gave 3 starts because the food was pretty bland but overall the service was okay. Wouldn't say this is my first stop for brunch. read more

My 1st time at this restaurant and will be my last. I ordered a breakfast plate with over easy eggs and hash browns with onions cooked inside. I received uncooked eggs and hash browns with the red onions on the side. I informed the waitress. She returned with the hash browns and the onions had been put on the top. I declined the meal and the waitress left the plate over on the trash can behind me. She was not user friendly nor did they try to rectify the problem. I like that this place can gracefully scale from just a coffee shop to a full-on meal or wine bar/lounge. We stopped in for some coffee and WiFi time and to do a little work, originally. There are lots of places to sit, including the counter, and it has a pleasant ambiance. Then we decided to have some real drinks (mimosas, then wine, beer). (It was that time of day). Eventually, we ended up having real food. The food was pretty good. The WINE was quite good! My wife and I ate here on Saturday (06/15) -- we were a bit apprehensive at first because it was obvious (due to the alcoholic beverages permit notice in the window) that this was a fairly new restaurant. We were not disappointed. Noise level is low -- there were four other tables occupied at the time we went in (around 5 PM.) We sat at one of the café-height tables and our server came by who was fairly knowledgeable about the menu; although she wasn't able to answer one of our questions from memory, she had no reservations about quickly asking and coming back with a suitable answer that met the need. She was very friendly and attentive throughout the meal. We ordered a few different things (verde enchilada, relleno, mexican rice) - all were served hot and both of us commented on how delicious the food was. Some of the dishes are large enough for two so be sure to ask your server, especially if you are looking for a light meal. We ended our meal with the recommended banana beignet for dessert which again, did not disappoint. The serving was large enough for 4 people. Only thing I wish we would have been told was that there is a really nice back patio area -- only after washing my hands at the restroom down the hall did I notice this little gem tucked out back -- it's a great space and since the day was so sunny, the weather would have been perfect for outdoor dining. Stylish cafe but DON'T order steak wrap. Post-workout at gym next block, picked up the wrap to go. Tasted good for 2 bites, then noticed the very obvious texture of blubber vs. steak. Started picking out blubber pieces, something like 1/3 of the "meat" was fat. Rest of the meat was gray and no signs of grilling/char. For 8 bucks I don't expect freshly medium-grilled steak, I can accept the use of pre-cooked meat, but come on... Rest of this cafe seems ok but whoever made that wrap must be clinically insane. read more

Went with four friends and had a good time. Place was pretty busy for a new place on a Thursday night. I like the decor. My Caesar salad was not a Caesar salad. Well, there was lettuce and parmesan cheese. No garlic, no lemon, no egg, no anchovy = no flavor = me sad. My friends ordered and shared a few things and enjoyed the enchiladas, black bean and albondigas. I am not sure I "get" the menu. Feels like it needs filling out and organizing. Maybe some hints about sizes and ordering. At first it seems like it is an all tapas menu, but then you realize it is not. But, things are kind of a la carte, so it feels like you should order more than one, but the sizes are large. Just a bit perplexing. Nothing they can't work out, but I hope they work it out. My favorite cafe! Nice ambiance, friendly baristas/workers, and very good coffee. I come here for their coffee because it beats Starbucks! For some reason I just find it more flavorful especially their americano. Maybe it's because their workers put more love than SB's? I've had their quiche, ham and cheese croissants, sticky buns and other pastries, no complaints. I've been here by myself and a group of friends but still received the same great customer service. If inside gets packed, go on and step to their beautiful back patio. I'll miss this place when I move so I'll definitely continue to keep going here til I move. read more

I actually love this place. It's got a variety of interesting things to order. It has a great outside space in the back (you have to walk through to get to the patio.) It's good at accomodating my unusual food preferences; like giving me spinach instead of the bread, in eggs benedict. And I like that it seems to be a family run business. But I need to stop coming here. I buy a $5 mocha here weekly or more and it's made wrong about 75% of the time. I know this because I've gotten to the point where I watch them make it. I've had too many times that I've clearly gotten a caffeine mocha when I've asked for decaf, or they use the wrong milk when I specify. These things matter to me or I wouldn't order it a specific way. I get asked if an order is for here or not and if I say here inevitably it will be packaged as togo. I also put effort into making sure the person I'm ordering from is hearing me too. This place is lacking systems that allow the workers to do their jobs well and know the details of an order. Expecting the espresso person to hear the orders taken at the counter while they have a loud machine near them doesn't appear to work. Not to mention when there's a line of drinks waiting to be made with no indication of what they are. So, I guess my point is to just know how it's going to be if you ask for anything out of the mainstream average. read more

Relaxing, friendly place to start your day. I grab my coffee, write for an hour, check email, chat with friends from around Alameda, then roll on. Coffee and pastries are good, as are the breakfast croissant sandwiches. Free wifi is best in the restaurant, spotty out back. They also have a coffee card- get your 11th coffee free. Plenty of seating so is easy to work for a while without feeling I need to make space for new customers. Staff is also welcoming. There are so many really great cafes here in the Bay Area but this one is one of my favorites. The place is very clean, the food and coffee here is amazing and the staff is very helpful and friendly. What else can you ask for? On top of that, you can eat very, very healthy here. My GF eats gluten free and they have accommodations for that as well as fresh pressed juice here! Of course the coffee is fantastic, rich and amazing. I'm giving the place a 3 star rating only because our orders were not correct. First I ordered the Gold Coast hash with no cheese and wheat toast. The cheese wasn't visible on top of the dish but rather melted under the hash browns. Sour dough toast was on my order. My friend's order was a scramble with no toast and extra hash instead. His order came out with wheat toast and potatoes. Aside from that, food was tasty and well portioned. Coffee and espresso drinks were also good. Great ambiance and service was just right. A million years later and they're still my favorite. The owners Monica and Miguel are an amazingly hard working couple that always make time for small talk no matter how busy it might seem. We love stopping here for quick on the go breakfast and coffee, lunch, or weekend lazy meals on the cozy and relaxing patio. I really like the waffle, oatmeal, burritos, breakfast sandwiches, and pastries which is just a small chunk of their menu. They also make THEEE BEST BLT's! I haven't the faintest idea why, but they are delicious. Our entire school has fallen in love with them and we'll get Wescafe to cater our events or host staff parties at the cafe. Always a blast. And can I talk about the coffee?! I don't remember where they said they source from, but the coffee and espresso are distinctively delicious, deep, dark, and robust. They have brown sugar and soy milk in addition to the usual stuff on the condiments bar so you can get things just to your liking. I mean, great food and coffee at a literal mom and pop shop? Today I ordered a turkey club and an order of French fries. I was so surprised how badly my sandwich was prepared . The French fries was soggy, undercooked and cold. It was totally inedible the sour dough bread was hard it didn't have any Mayo, lettuce was old, the outside of the sandwich has bacon crumb pressed in to the bread and the cheese looked like it was microwaved. I called the restaurant and complained to the manager how bad my sandwich was prepared. The manager offered to make me another sandwich and delivered it across the street and to be totally honest it was only a little better. The sandwich was prepared better but it was so dry and the bacon was cold and dry. I want to thank the manager for remaking my sandwich but I would highly recommended that the staff be retrain in making club sandwiches if they want to charge $14. I was so upset about the sandwich I didn't't even mention the fries, both items were thrown in the garbage. I'm sorry I didn't take pictures. read more
