I came here for two surprise bag pick up orders a couple of days ago. It was a fast pick up and the food was nearby to the cashier. In my orders came two ham sandwiches, two tuna sandwiches, a slice of marble cake and a slice of coconut cake. Am I the biggest fan of coconut? Not at all, but it was actually tolerable. The marble cake was alright as well. Want some honesty? Neither of these types of cake are my fave, nor do I particularly like cake. I don't hate cake, but if I could only have it once a year for whatever absurd reason, I'd be quite alright. That said, these baked goods would probably be delightful to someone who likes cake. Also, this place is like a small coffee shop setting that serves light breakfast items (you're not getting pancakes here) and lunch, closing at 2 PM daily. The tuna sandwich was good. Fair. I think it must be quite hard to mess up a tuna sandwich considering the easily ingredients, so it's what you'd expect. I especially liked that they served it on a brioche roll, my favorite. Now let's talk about location. I imagine people that live and work around here are the average customers. If you're interested in trying it out, it's about two blocks down from Lake Merritt Bart and across the street from OMCA. Parking is a hit or miss. read more

This review comes a few months late, but I had bought a Too Good to Go surprise bag for Eden Plaza Cafe. It came with a pastry (a Danish), soup (I believe it was minestrone or something similar, it tasted vegetarian) and a sandwich. All of the food was decent quality, though not mindblowing, and tasted fresh. I felt it was a good value for the price. (I haven't seen them on Too Good to Go lately, so they might've discontinued particpating in the app, but the cafe is definitely still open.) I appreciate that they offer a variety of foods including baked goods, sandwiches, burritos, and drinks at reasonable prices. Oh, and how can I forget they also serve coffee and espresso drinks. For the amount of times Ive gone to Edens, Ive gotten mixed experiences; some days are better than others but overall pretty consistent. I have only tried the parfaits & tuna sandwiches. I read the reviews but I'm a stickler that watches how ppl make my food lol. If I see there's not an enough tuna on my sandwich while she's making it I simply ask for more. They're nice about it & I tip. Don't wait until the last minute to say what you need. It can get busy in the mornings & with all the orders she moves quick as to not keep anyone waiting for too long. The area seats about 8 ppl at time and isnt that big but also have outside seating for . I love being able to get in/out. It takes about 5-15min depending on how busy it is but I highly recommend if you love tuna melts as much as I do. read more

This place has pretty decent food but I will never go back there again because of poor customer service. I went there today just to grab one of their pre-made salads because I was in a hurry. The older male cashier saw me standing behind the previous customer waiting to pay for my food. He continued chit chatting with the man for 5 minutes despite me standing there. It wasn't until the customer chose to leave that he finally served me. I don't know if he just doesn't like black women or what, but I'd rather starve than deal with such rudeness again. Eden Plaza Cafe is a deli on 11th and Madison. They have a variety of sandwiches, baked goods, homemade salads and even burritos. Their food is tasty and their staff are pretty responsive. I especially like their breakfast croissants with eggs, cheese and sausage. There's a good amount of sausage offered, and unlike a lot of delis which just use standard cheddar cheese you can choose what cheese they use, I usually use pepperjack. I've also enjoyed their sandwiches, I have an affinity for Reuben sandwiches. I've also liked their seafood salad sandwich. They also have good homemade salads, including pasta salads. There aren't a lot of food options in that immediate area and I work nearby, so I check this place out when I'm looking for a quick and good lunch. read more

Took a quick break from work to grab something to eat, since I didn't bring my lunch to work today. So I decided to hit the local cafe that is down the street from the job that I frequent from time to time. Recently I did a food review on their chicken cesar wrap and posted it on my Instagram page and it was tasty. So it seems that they saw my review and the owner thanked me for the love I showed them. I told them no problem the food is good so I'm going, to tell the truth. Today I went in there to order a polish sausage sandwich. When chatting advised the owner of my new adventure as a food blogger and advised hey if you ever add any new menu items let me know and I'll be happy to check it out and give my honest opinion. The owner asked if I've ever tried Pozole before and if I like pork. I advised no and I don't mind pork from time to time. He asked me to try it out and gave me the soup free of charge to show his thanks for the review. Now I will say this soup was tasty, I'm really picky when it comes to food and new foods at that. I try to play it safe when it comes to things I try and eat. However, this dish was very good and I had to look it up to see what's in the dish typically. Overall I give it a 4 out of 5. the only thing I would change is to make it a little spicy. As according to most recipes the red version is supposed to be spicy. Would recommend trying the soup if you are a fan of pork dishes and hungry on a Thursday for lunch. read more

Eden is one of those last choice spots if you work in the area. Honestly go somewhere else I have worked in the area for 8+ years and eden has always been there. I recently got a sandwich, soup and brownie from them. The sandwich was nothing special and had an overwhelming amount of Mayo and mustard on it. After finishing it, I had an itchy throat. Showed up to the Alameda County Recorder's Office a little too early because I wanted to avoid morning rush hour traffic. The doors are open, but only for employees. So I walked around the block. $4 later and with a mocha in hand, I walked the rest of the way around the block, back to my original destination. Didn't try a sandwich (which sound delicious by some accounts, not so good by others) that early in the morning (7:30am) but if I ever have to go head back that way, that's my next order. Got the Civil Service call of duty at the neighboring courthouse. I just smelled the place day one on the walk from BART. Day two bought probably the best pre-prepared SW Chicken salad ever. On day three, I stopped and got a pretty darn good breakfast burrito and cup of Hawaii'n Hazelnut Joe. But the best part on my exchange with the shop keepers was when I got on BART that morning and discovered my phone didn't charge. After asking where the nearest place I could find a wall charger and receiving excellent directions to a local CVS, the cashier then simply unplugged his phone and offered me a free charge while I enjoyed my breakfast. Huge hugs and thank you as this random act of kindness and senseless beauty gave me enough phone charge to get a ride home post trial postponement that same morning. If called for duty, I will be stopping by to pay further respect. That and another yummy SW Chicken Salad!!! As for their coffee... literally no body to it; tried their macchiato - tasted like bitter hot water. No thank-you, I'll bring my own coffee to work from now on. If I was comparing Eden Plaza to Brown Couch Cafe they may have received a 2 star rating. But they are not trying to be a coffee shop cafe. They are a small cafeteria. Not a deli coffee shop. They have numerous breakfast and lunch options. From premade yogurt and granola, southwestern grilled chicken salad, fruit, etc that can be purchased and have you back at the office in 5 minutes. Or you can order made to order sammies, burritos, salads, and breakfasts. I think the reviews were unnecessarily harsh- not that it matters because the place is always hopping and everyone always looks happy because no matter how busy it is, the counter girls are friendly, quick, and efficient. Everything is inexpensive, the portions are huge, and you're eating within 5 minutes of walking in the door. So on a 30 minute lunch break that is awesome. Plus it is so much better for you and tastier than MC Donalds or Subway- which are only steps away. My favorite thing to order here is the bagel and lox with avocado instead of cream cheese~ $6.25. It comes with tomato, onion, and capers. With a soda and $2 tip I'm out the door for $10. Today they were out of bagels at lunch time but still made me my sammie on sliced sour dough toast. Only problem is the toast is way bigger than the bagel. So they gave me a lot more salmon and fixins for free. And were nice about everything. I ate, typed this review, an since Madison dozed in my lap without issue I knew I had to give them the extra half a star! Cool little bodega near the government offices in Oakland.. I had an egg muffin sandwich with bacon and cheese, and it's definitely not like the ones at McDonalds. The egg was really fluffy! I had to use utensils to eat it. Next time, I'll ask them to add tomatoes, and also if they have tobasco (they only had Tapatio). I stopped by this morning, perhaps the third time in as many years, and splurged on a lox, cream cheese, etc., on a toasted everything bagel, and medium decaf drip. Coffee was delicious. I was expecting a bagel wrapped in paper, easily eaten w/one hand. Instead I got two toasted halves, each with as much lox as another place might put on a single sandwich. I park in the museum parking garage and stroll across the street to Eden Plaza. It's a tiny place, so, don't think you'll stop here with a group. But, the green enchilada sauce is to die for. And if enchiladas aren't really your thing, it's an eclectic menu: from Mexican food to soups and salads. ....first let me agree with other reviewers, there are 8 places that come up on yelp.com if you type in eden plaza cafe. 3 are within a couple blocks of each other...then I write this same review that follow on the wrong one, and the owner bitches about how I reviewed the wrong place, and crying that I needed to take it down if it was wrong, which I did, but it didn't matter, all the rest of his reviews where just as bad! Now...for the review! If it wasn't for the service I received at during my 1.5 hour break from jury duty, I would have probably given more stars. The sandwich that I ordered was OK. Mediterranean Chicken with feta and sun dried tomato...Really I would not have called it Mediterranean, is it OK to use that as the name just because it has feta? Anyways, for a bit over 9bucks, for a sandwich and a drink, I was disappointed with the service. They sandwich makers where putting together some rather large platters, so cool, at least look up and say it will be just a minute. Ignoring me almost made me leave. I think I've eaten here twice. Both times were lackluster. I had some kind of chicken avocado sandwich. It was so dry...I think maybe they had a bit of mayo on it and everything else was bread, cheese, chicken, veggies etc...It needed something to bring it all together and not make it so dry, but it was still alright tasting. I also got a couple of pastries from the counter and white hot chocolate which was EXTREMELY too hot! I burned my mouth...waited 15 mins and it was still too hot to drink!
