Food and drinks are hit or miss here. Today it was my Mediterranean salad. - No Dolmas, - They used large green olives with pits, - Cucumber was unpleasant and too bitter to eat. I was looking forward to dolmas and some kalamata olives (like the picture shows online). At least with kalamata olives the pits come out pretty easy. These green olives can't be eaten with a bite of salad. I threw out the cucumbers because the bitterness overwhelmed everything else. Not the end of the world, but it leaves me disappointed when my food and drinks aren't what I'm expecting :( read more

Prices are a little cheaper, and you I don't quite feel obligated to leave a big 20%+ since it's not full service. $8.50 Breakfast burrito with bacon...a perfect sized burrito filled generously with eggs and protein of choice. Great for the price! And perfect if you're. Or looking for a giant brunch food coma. $6.50 Green Monster smoothie...a big 22oz glass fulled with fiber, vitamins, and other good stuff. Best cafe on the west end-- outdoor is dog friendly, and the patio is a gem. The food is delicious-- leaning toward specialties in breakfast and brunch type food. Large coffee is really large, which is nice-- and it's always bustling and fun to come here. The farmers market is very close and they benefit with really fresh fruit and produce-- their smoothies are a speciality-- but so are the omelettes and huevos divorciados. Truly, Wescafe is a local institution. Wish they would stay open just a few hours later! The back patio is heavenly, with dogs and babies and locals gathering around the bubbling fountain, under the sun. They also have outdoor seating on Webster so you can watch the locals stroll by. Lox bagel was completely inedible. It had massive chunks of tomato (yes, not slices), old cucumber, and.... White onion??? The lox was essentially torn up scraps and only on one side of the bagel. It also smelled old. Bagel was crunchy and the cream cheese was like plastic. read more

Counter person was ok, but the guy bringing our food to the table was kind of abrupt and he pulled our silverware out of his jacket pocket...pretty sure that's where the stuff on my fork came from. We got a chocolate croissant and a bagel and neither were anything special- the croissant had a weird taste and was overly sweet, and the bagel was burnt in spots. The restaurant was pretty noisy by the time we left, so all in all not a place I'd recommend or return to. read more

This was a great stop after going to the Tuesday farmers market. It was a bit chilly out so we came for hot drinks and a chorizo breakfast burrito. It comes with tomato, cheese, beans and sour cream. We opted out of the beans and we asked for potato instead. We wanted to share it. They gladly said they would cut it. They made the hot drinks and gave them to us in glass mugs before we went to get seating. So nice. Con: For some reason it took over 15 minutes for it to come out. The two customers before us had take out coffee. So It was strange that it took so long for a single burrito assembly. A customer who came in 5 minutes after us got their plated meals immediately after ours so it leads me to believe they started all the meals at the same time or they put extra love into their cooking. Just a little too long for the wait when it wasn't busy in my opinion. Positive: Great meal. Filling burrito that was shared, so good quantity. The coffee was strong enough without asking for an extra shot. The hot chocolate was fine according to my wife. The ambiance was very nice and the seating in the back patio with soft instrumental music with water feature sounds made for a very relaxing time. I'd come back for sure. I love Wescafe! The employees are always so friendly and helpful. I love the choices of smoothies that they have. They are so delicious and immunity boosting. They also have great coffee with options for dairy or non-dairy creamer as well as different sweeteners like agave or regular sugar or honey. Their quiche is so tasty too and well as their breakfast burritos. Portion sizes are good for you the price. I go away feeling satisfied. They also do not discriminate giving accommodations to customers as needed. There's a beautiful garden in the back that is easy to access from the back gate or through the restaurant itself. As a SoCal native, Lucky Boy breakfast burritos were a mainstay in my home town of Pasadena. Zip codes have changed but the yearning for some hometown comfort food never goes away (especially after a night of moderate drinking). My first effort to find a suitable substitute was a success. As a whole the ingredients were pretty standard with one expection. This breaksfast burrito had sour cream. I was pleasantly surprised that sour cream could add an additional flavor dimension to a breakfast burrito. In addition, I found the quality of the tortilla to exceed the high standards set by my beloved Lucky Boys. This was a quality breakfast burrito. I'll go back for more. Cons: Parking in that area of Alameda is less than ideal on Saturday mornings. And more pricey than I'm accustomed to. But Nor Cal will be priced by Nor Cal standards. read more

An update to 5 stars from a couple of years ago. This place has become one of our favorite breakfast/brunch spots over the years and we even have to drive to get there. Places closer to us just don't want to open early with prolly one exception. They have indoor dining, tables on the wide sidewalk that are actually protected from cars with concrete instead of these flimsy parklets situated in the middle of traffic. They also have a great patio or back. My partner was holding out on me about the patio for months when she finally said "Let's suit on the patio". I'm like what patio? Still a great selection of food, fresh juices made to order, beer, champs and wine. Oh, and coffee, lots of coffee drinks to start your day rolling after the previous night. This is a fairly good-sized cafe with an extensive breakfast and lunch menu. I was in the mood for a light meal, so I ordered yogurt with granola. The service was astonishingly fast, and they brought my order to moe in about two minutes. It was quite a nice dish with lots of fruit on top of the granola. Just what I wanted! One of the servers was kind enough to explain the history of the trolley car along Lincoln Boulevard. That explains the train motif in several restaurants in this area. There are quite a few tables inside as well as more outside. It was pretty busy this Saturday morning, and parking can be really tough, especially when the farmers market is active. I had to drive around to find a spot. The meter was broken so I guess that means I get to park for free! Here's a special secret just for you Yelp people so don't tell anybody else: They have a secret garden in the back that seats about 30 more people. Remember, don't tell anybody about that! The morning I was here, the place was busy as a bee hive! It's obviously a very popular place with locals, as well as tourists looking for a bite. Hello. This meal was extremely disappointing. The pancakes and waffles were bland and we were given no butter. The eggs were unseasoned. We ordered a mocha and hot chocolate, both ended up being mostly hot milk. While I do appreciate one of the employees running out the door behind me to give me a part of my order they didn't put in the bag, the meal itself was so bland I almost wish he didn't bother. I love Wescafe. Being going for years. I started with them when they were up the street in a smaller space. The welcome to me is like "Cheers". Which is what I love. The care and suggestions on what I should order was wonderful. I ended up with the english muffin breakfast sandwich with bacon, egg, and cheese. It was fresh and hot. They even went as far as to bring me a tall glass of water with lemon in it. The personal touch was amazing. Was given the suggestion to get jalapeños on the sandwich next time because I do like my food spicy. I stop in whenever I am around or during my walks. read more

I would not recommend coming here for the food, specifically the pastries. I bought a coffee cake and a brownie, both which were about 5 bucks and BOTH were stale and dry. It makes no sense to me at all why they would sell this crap to people. I took the brownie home to eat later but once I touched it I could tell that it was going to be dry and awful! It went right into the trash. I was really hungry and got the coffee cake on a plate to eat while I was there and it was dryyy. I only keep on eating it because I was soo hungry. It was a totally waste of $10. The only reason why I'm giving this place 2 stars is that I was trying to work at the time and my computer battery was low and I was able to sit at a table, charge my battery and work which was nice. read more

I tried the "Gold Coast" and my wife had "Hipster Hash." So delicious!!! The Hashbrowns, the featured ingredient, are perfect. They are crisp and delicious, and fulfilling! They add special spice and ingredients, without being overbearing, or burning your mouth. The cooked beef of the burger patty, was delcious, not salty, and hot. So good, mixture of eggs and beef together, make a delicious combination! I too side with other reviewers, who say this Cafe deserves 5*, and certainly not 3* or less. RECOMMENDED!!!!! read more

The tuna sandwich was probably the best I have ever had ... it wasn't soaked in Mayo it was just right balance of Mayo and mustard and while I am not a huge fan of mustard this sandwich was heavenly . Better than the tuna sandwiches I had in Maui. The staff Was so accommodating and friendly and in talking to them they let us know that one of the owners was actually in the back making all of these delicious creations... I use to love Wescafe and up until today have never had any trouble with any of my orders. I have been coming here for years. Well, today my entire order was off. I ordered avocado to my sandwich ( didn't get my avocado), I ordered a mango smoothie ( it was completely liquid and taste like water), I ordered a Chi tea latte that only taste like milk, I ordered French fries ( that were warm and stale) My card was charged 29.40 when my total was 24.50 ( I hope that this is just a bank error or temporary hold). I went back for more Chi, fresh fries, and another smoothie still wasn't impressed. I am not sure what happened to Wescafe but it does sadden me because I absolutely loved this Cafe. read more

This place should be shut down. Food is overpriced and mediocre, the service sucks, and the kitchen staff don't wear masks. I met a friend for brunch today and we decided to get our order to go because this place was packed and there was an empty parklet down the street. We ordered an impossible hash, a Belgian waffle, and two iced lattes. My friend was very clear about the iced lattes, because she said pretty loudly to the young woman behind the counter "I usually like mine hot, but today I need an *iced* latte." The young woman asked my friend for her name and didn't give us a number, even though I could hear them calling out numbers as food was coming out. The lattes came out hot. When my friend told the guy that we ordered two *iced* lattes, he argued with her and said "well, she says you never said *iced*," referring to the young woman who took our order. My friend pushed back. He made them iced. Then we waited more than 45 minutes for the food, getting very cranky, watching the kitchen staff walking around the restaurant with their noses uncovered, or their masks down around their necks. I was about to just leave without my food, when my friend went up to the counter to ask about the order. The young woman who took our order asked my friend what our number was. My friend said "you didn't give me a number, you just asked for my name," and she told the young woman her name. The young woman responded, "Oh yeah... I remember that name..." and went looking for our order. She found the hash sitting under a heat lamp, but there was no waffle to be found anywhere. She said it would take five minutes. We waited ten. In the meantime, one of the kitchen staff who'd had his mask around his neck the whole time we were there delivered some food to a table of guests next to where I was standing. I said "you know it's illegal to be indoors without a mask on, right?" and he replied "oh it just fell down" and walked away without pulling his mask up. When my waffle came out, the cook who handed it to me had his nose exposed and I said "please pull your mask up over your nose" and he ignored me. Wow. I'll be making a phone call to the county on Monday morning. read more

This is a nice cafe with good lattes. I've tried their spanakopita a couple of times - the first time, I was starving and it tasted so good. Second time was so so. Maybe because the first time I had it right when they brought it out of the oven. It's a bit noisy to work or study because their blender is constantly going. I don't know how my husband studies. Wow! This place gets crowded on weekend mornings. I think all of Alameda stops in for their morning pastry. The first thing that caught my eye was the bacon quiche. Its topped with strips of bacon and has bacon throughout. If you have high blood pressure, I would not order the bacon quiche. However, everyone else must try it. PRO-TIP: Even though this is morning spot, they make a descent hamburger and fries. Be sure to ask for the fries crispy (even if you do ask, they often ignore your request which is frustrating). Its not obvious from the menu, so you have to ask for it. Its $9.95 without cheese. Finding a seat for a party of more than 4 can be difficult on the weekends because this place gets packed. Every other day of the week, its no problem. They have a nice patio out back and nice area on the sidewalk where you can sit and drink while people's dogs sniff your shoes. Its lovely. read more
