The gym has a mix of cardio, weights/lifting, and functional movement. I would say the variety of the classes is the best because sometimes you walk away feeling exhausted and others more just sore. There is a program That rotates every few months and has a certain theme , but for the new or casual gym goer you will Not get lost in the weeds because the coaches help or scale workouts to make it more approachable. The atmosphere is upbeat and positive . The gym hosts social events and tournaments which keep things interesting and fun. There are many class times and singing up and canceling is simple. I have been to a few group class style gyms in Dallas and by far this is the best. If can get to a few classes a week I almost always feel better in mind and body.Lastly, the instructors and in particular the owner Zach go above and beyond to make sure everyone feels welcome and is getting something out of their workout. As someone who is very self-critical, and competitive with myself, I found the environment to be inclusive, friendly and non-judgmental....just what I needed/wanted. The workouts are well structured and easy to scale for all fitness levels. I love the mix of cardio, strength training, HIIT, movement exercises, etc. The owner, Zach, and the coaches are very helpful and knowledgeable which is something I was looking for because I tend to ask a lot of questions. They are happy to help you reach personal goals if you're like me and appreciate that kind of support and feedback. They are passionate about health and fitness - they often participate in the workouts which is encouraging when you're in the middle of a tough workout knowing that they've already been through it. I can't say enough good things about this gym and these people. It's also a bonus to have physical therapy available, on-sight. Jess is amazing and helped me with my hip mobility and recommended scaled movements specific to upcoming workouts (she is also a gym member which is awesome because she knows exactly what's going on in the workout cycles). Thanks to Vickery, I am in the best shape I've been in since college. I have to give Zach, Stefan, Rachel, and all the coaches credit for helping me get my life and confidence back. Each class is 30 minutes in length with a focus on both strength and cardio training. The fast paced 30-minute format is divided between 6 stations with 6 rounds at each station in 30- second intervals- with 10-second breaks in between rounds. You will break a sweat- but you will gain muscle as well as endurance. I started to have more energy within days of keeping up with the routine. Classes at Edge are small by design- 15 people max, ensuring that everyone receives individual personal training- with a focus on correct form. William, the owner and one of the instructors has a masters degree in kinesiology-so he always pays attention to the participants, making adjustments as needed to make sure that no one gets hurt- and that you get the most out of your workout. Men and women, young and old. So cool! Karen Sanzo, who founded the studio, teaches the best beginners class in town. She is also a physical therapist so she is able to customize for each student's physical needs - I have back/abdominal injuries and there are often others with injuries who take her classes and she is so helpful. Also, I have taken many Pilates classes over the years at studios and gyms, with DVDs and on-line and her instruction by far is the bast language I have ever heard to explain proper form, which is so essential. She is better at explaining than anyone, it has really helped me to finally find the benefit of Pilates that I have always heard about. And, the advanced classes seem very challenging - both mat and equipment, reformer, etc.

Separate pools for lap swimming and water-walking or water aerobics instruction. Hallelujah. 2. Pool lanes are quite large, so sharing wouldn't be difficult at all. That said, at the day/time I was there, I didn't have to share. 3. Towel service (hint: the large towels are inside the entrances to the locker rooms). 4. Garage parking underground is a super nice perk for a rainy day. 5. Friendly staff (but that seems to be all YMCAs). Cons: 1. Shower situation was shockingly poorly planned, given that this entire building is relatively new construction. I guess showers don't need benches where you can put your stuff? In the women's locker room, people had pulled chairs over into the shower area to "solve" this problem, but it wasn't great. 2. For anyone who's uncomfortable in a public locker room for any particular reason (I can think of several), there are very few (only two) private shower/locker rooms available relative to my home YMCA, and they're labeled with rather unfriendly signs saying that you shouldn't use them unless you're a family or a disabled person.

He, instead, chose to ridicule me on the phone, while his assistant, a woman named Micah, listened on but didn't say a word. I shared my story at a presidential center, soon thereafter, was the keynote at UH, wrote for two newspapers and I'm currently writing a book. I am not suicidal, but words matter and how management handles customers. At the time, during Covid lockdown, there was sexual misconduct with lifeguards, a swim director selling, and a lifeguard fired for marijuana use. All this at the squeaky clean Y!! I attended their weightlifting workshop this morning and was really impressed with their coaches…read more Superior knowledge, patient, and excellent at explaining the movements and mechanics/reasoning behind the lifts. Of the class I was definitely the least experienced and worst at picking up the complex movements, but I never felt uncomfortable or out of sorts thanks to the coaches. I can't stress this enough... these coaches are amazing. You can go anywhere and lift weights. You can buy a bench and some weights and do your own thing at home. You can go to another type of gym where the "coach" gives you 10 mins of "instruction" and then lets you to do 25 reps of a complex movement you have no business doing... with WAY too much weight. What you're not going to get from a book or YouTube or anywhere else is the knowledge these guys impart on you. Class act all the way around. Final thought (and another thing that I was really impressed with), this was a true seminar, with direct one-on-one coaching. I was worried that I was signing up for a "5 hour Dallas Strength and Conditioning commercial". That couldn't be further from the truth. Well, I felt right at home here. This is a strength gym. This is a place where you won't find any…read moretreadmills or ellipticals. This is a place where you learn how to move weight around. This is a place where you go to learn just how strong you can actually be, both mentally and physically. This is a place where you go to make friends who also want to better themselves through the hardship that is known as strength training. This is a place that offers more than just barbells, you have prowlers and sandbags and all other kinds of toys to play with. I feel that once I get my body recovered from a couple joint sprains and muscle tears, I can see myself becoming a member here. The Layout This place is simply an open room with racks and weights and platforms. There was a PA blasting Nirvana and fans blowing the air around. This place was clean and fresh, the owner takes good care of the facilities. It's a simple layout, because with this place it's what you do in the space, not what the space does to you. The Experience They have at least two different teams here: a powerlifting team and a weightlifting team. I could have sworn they also had a strongman program (I believe they have atlas stones) but upon looking at their website that doesn't seem to exist. They also have kettlebells, fitness, and a strength and conditioning programs. I attended the powerlifting program, as my body isn't ready yet for work on explosive strength. The day me and my friend attended happened to be bench day. The owener/coach Chris is a beefy, likeable dude. He was able to help out me and a friend of mine with our bench press technique. ...Barbell lifts really are technique intense, and it's amazing how much better you feel when you lift with correct form. I can only imagine how much Chris could help me with my deadlift. The template seemed to kind of follow Wendler's 5/3/1 program a bit, and I mean that in a good way. I could sense a purpose with everything, and that this day was part of a master plan, not some random thrown together workout designed to make you puke. I wish all gyms were like this.
