There's a odd mix of things here, from handbags and key-chains and jewelry, to candles, tableware and specialty foods. Oddly enough, I really liked this store, even as I recognized I'd have no place suitable for displaying any of what it carried. My decorating style isn't quite so formal. I was really struck by how well coordinated things were, the flow of the store encouraged me to keep browsing and led me from one surprise to another. The little dogs made of beads were adorable and as close as I came to thinking "maybe." The manager was as nice as could be and tried valiantly to get me to buy something, even offering suggestions for the bottled artichoke relish. And as tempting as it all was - I didn't want to pack it. So, I left empty-handed. Still, I'd stop here again simply because I can enjoy looking at things more knowing I don't have to clean it, dust it, or figure out where to put it.

There doesn't seem to be any formula for how things are displayed, the bags and jewelry are mingled in varying degrees. I spent far more time here than I wanted to because there was something new on every shelf. For an average shopper with limited time or a texting teen with a limited attention span, the display mix might be ideal as they'll see a little of everything no matter where they look. The items are well displayed, easy to pick up and placed in a way to make it easy to find the pricing. It's mostly a costume jewelry place with lots of unusual pieces, but everything was very reasonably priced. Both the jewelry and the bags were in bright summery colors. Bangles and Bags is enough to cheer you up and that's never a bad thing.

I highly recommend the gift shop part, they have very nice gift quality bamboo plants and I caution you about overusing the noun, gift, as a verb. I understand it's technically correct but this usage should be limited to large charitable donations else we run into uncomfortable confusion when we refer to, say, a gifted child (talented or human slavery?). Here you can find all sorts of nice planter gifts you can GIVE to a friend. I gave myself one. I would most certainly not say I "gifted one" to myself. It's my year, the year of the rat, so I also got a Chinese rat artsy fartsy desk top thing that my cat Scotty immediately knocked off the desk. Some kind of personal affront I suppose, or maybe he thought I "gifted it" inappropriately to him. Anyway, it didn't break in spite of his mighty effort. They also offer a range of Chinese astrological services, and if you're a non-Asian with a little more money than you need you can get some Feng Shui into your environs with their consultation services. Like any good fortune tellers they are actually very observant polite and subtle interrogators. In the process of seemingly casual conversation they quickly discern what it is you want and maybe need to hear. From this perspective I can also recommend them for people who need a little support, a little guidance. Over the years I've noted that occult advisers of various cloaks and genres actually provide supportive therapy, a friendly and sympathetic ear for those who need to get through a difficult time, experience or transition. If they're good that is, and I feel like these two are very good. But if you're just popping in to explore, the banter borders on annoying so be forewarned. You can pay extra for a pro bike fitting by owner Brent Emery, who won a silver medal in cycling at the 1984 Summer Olympics, and is extremely knowledgeable about all things cycling. Even if you don't do that, however, you will be sold a bike that is best for you and we be fitted on it before you go out the door. Brent also has a special affinity for adapting bicycles to those with disabilities, so there is a place in heaven for him because of that!
