Terrible experience! Our landlord contacted this company to repair our broken garage door. It took a few days for them to even schedule an appointment. Then on the day of the appointment the technician showed up 2 and a half hours early WITHOUT CALLING and because we were not home (since we were expecting them later in the day) they had to postpone our repairs for several more days. Garage door needed to be serviced and neighbor suggested I try West Coast Garage Door. I checked on various sources and reviews were fine ( a couple of very poor reviews but overall quite good). Interestingly, lots and lots of garage door repair firms got average ratings of 5 stars - West Coast had a slightly lower rating overall. Garage needed springs replaced and a couple of small brackets replaced. Repair work was done fine and the team arrived on time. I was charged $150 for a visit and $395 for the spring replacement or $545 total. Compared to other information on the Internet this seemed much higher than my research suggested. A friend does home remodeling and he also thought the price was high. The job took about 40 minutes or so and garage door springs are about $80 to $100 from Home Depot. I called WCGD to ask why and was told that Ukraine is a big source of garage door springs and as a result the cost of garage door springs has skyrocketed. I would guess a garage door repair installation firm could get the springs at a much cheaper price than the retail prices of $80 to $100 that I found. I also asked them how much the springs cost but they dodged responding to that question. Also, I wasn't told what the service call fee would be when I called to make the appointment. I didn't check the going rate on this but when added to the $395 for the spring replacement / installation - it seems like a very high price. Especially in comparison to the cost of the full installation and door cost a few years back. Given the many garage door repair firms with 5 star ratings, I would not use West Coast Garage Door again without being able to lock in the price up front and be comfortable it is at market. As a minor annoyance, I was also told that I would be sent an updated receipt that includes the $395 for the spring replacement, but after a week I am still waiting. I need to remember to be more careful in shopping for home repairs and the like and to never trust a single recommendation unless I really know and trust the source of the recommendation. read more

I have a 20 year old Genie screw drive. It lately started making very bad noises and struggling miserably. (A couple of years ago I had thought to grease it and at Home Depot asked for the correct grease. I was told there is no preferred grease, just use automotive grease. I did so. Now I could still see the screw was still heavily greased.) It looked however like the screw had a break in its path. I figured the screw and motor were shot. West Coast Garage Door came immediately. The gentleman stayed 10 minutes and in that time I saved many hundreds of dollars and learned a lot! First, if I needed a replacement, my old Genie Unit should not be replaced with a new Genie unit as their quality has gone way down. If I were to replace, Liftmaster is better. Automotive grease hardens over time with temperature change, even in So Cal. There is a correct type grease: cold weather white grease - with additives like lithium. It stays soft. My auto grease had hardened to the point of stopping the unit. He had the right type: Lubriplate (available not in stores but at Amazon 12$. Tube container is most convenient). One line of grease run along the screw unit fixed the problem. The "break" I saw in the screw was just a mend or splice and not a problem. He pointed out two copper contacts, one in the opener limit switch and another in the push-button controller that would work correctly if cleaned. I scoured the copper parts in the units later (easily) which got them working correctly. We noted that while he had a truly local business, most of the ads online were fake locations. In LA he mentioned, a large operation run by Israelis that were anything but local and did not honor promises. He charged me nothing for his time and help. (If there were a 10 star option here, I would award them to this company.) read more

West Coast is a well-established company. This is our second door installed by this company. The first one was over twenty years ago. Be very careful with what you find in your search engine. It's filled with fly-by-nights posing as local businesses. You'll be overcharged and underserved. I have no personal relationship with this company. Good information will solve your problem. Excellent service! These guys were available and accessible. We had a bit of an emergency and they came right out and covered some choices for replacing our opener. Wow! Talk about GREAT customer service and honesty! Problem: Garage door wasn't lowering all the way to floor and had a dent in the middle. Last year I had the same problem but it was fixed, I figured it was time to replace the door. Why I'm so impressed with this company : *My appt was between 8:30-9:30am, they arrived @ 8:20am (showed me they valued my time). *Advised technician ( Bill Pickering) that I was hoping I wouldn't need a new door as I had just spent a large amount of $ on another house repair. Bill fixed the dent in the door causing the problem and some other things ( I left to retrieve my check book). When I returned we tested the door several times and it worked great. He explained the door was fine there was no need to replace it at this time. He noticed the light bulbs needing replacing and took 2 new bulbs from his truck and installed them ( attention to detail). *When I asked how much I owed, he said there was no cost ! I said please let me pay you something he smiled and said just remember West Coast Garage Door when your ready to purchase a new door plus it wasn't right to charge me for such a simple job. I asked if I would need a new motor with new door ( another company had advised me that a new motor was needed) He said no the existing motor was a good quality and shouldn't be replaced ( honesty) I was so impressed with the service that I was going to call and commend this technician and his work. Well turned out Bill Pickering is the owner, but he assured me all his people do great work-I have no doubt ! Needless to say I'm recommending West Coast Garage Door to friends & family . The spring for our garage door busted in half and after several days of putting it off I started calling around to collect repair quotes. West Coast Garage Door (Jason) was very prompt and straight forward. Just by the description I provided him over the phone he was able to quote me a great price to repair our garage door. I asked him to include in his quote the cost to also replace the other spring that was old but not yet broken. He provided a quote to replace both springs at a very reasonable price and I knew that was going to be the last call I made for my repair search.
