I am giving this office one star due to concerns regarding due diligence and billing integrity…read more After checking my daughter in for a routine cleaning, I was informed that there was a $51 balance remaining from her previous visit for a sealant. I explained that I had not been told at the prior appointment that the sealant was not covered by insurance. Because the receptionist was new, another staff member stepped in to assist. I was initially told that insurance companies sometimes list services as covered on their websites when they are not. I was then told the $51 was part of my deductible and that my insurance only covered 80% of the sealant. After receiving multiple explanations, I requested to review the actual paperwork to verify the information being provided. Once the paperwork was printed and reviewed, I was informed that the previous information was incorrect. It was clarified that the office is only permitted to bill my insurance a certain contracted amount, and the sealant was, in fact, covered. Had I not asked to see the documentation, I would have paid a balance that my insurance had already covered. Additionally, I never received a copy of the paperwork I requested. I strongly encourage parents and patients to review their billing statements carefully and request documentation when there are discrepancies. Transparency and accuracy in billing are essential, and patients should not have to advocate this hard to ensure they are being charged correctly.

Children's Dentistry of Hiram - Severe untreated cavity with visible gum cyst and tooth decay after repeated concerns were not addressed by previous dentist.

I raised concerns multiple times about my daughter's cavity, and it was not handled with the urgency it clearly required. Now her condition has become severe--she has developed a cyst on her gum, and the tooth is badly damaged. This did not happen overnight. This was something that should have been addressed sooner. As a parent, it is extremely upsetting to see your child suffer when you trusted a provider to do their job. This experience has completely broken my trust in this office. I would not feel comfortable recommending this dentist to other parents. Please advocate for your child and consider getting a second opinion.

This guy is an unprofessional dentist & more importantly a CROOK. On my 7-year-old daughter's first…read morevisit yesterday, he tells my wife she needs to have 4 teeth pulled. Why on earth does a 7-year-old need teeth pulled that are going to naturally purge themselves from her mouth anyway? My child heard his unscrupulous recommendation and scared her to tears! Not only are his recommendations questionable, his conduct was very unprofessional as my wife shared with me he acted like he and my wife were best friends--I guess this was his attempt to woo her into trusting him. Furthermore, you are a REGULAR dentist dude--not an oral surgeon, not an orthodontist--a PLAIN OLD REGULAR dentist who probably graduated bottom of his class. What this fool doesn't know is, my daughter saw a highly credentialed orthodontist before coming to his office, & she didn't recommend teeth being pulled! Our son is ending his time with braces on and didn't have to have a single tooth pulled. In fact, this orthodontist recommended, "my daughter have some more teeth come out, and bring her back for a second evaluation." It seems he & his practice like to prey on Medicaid recipients. My assumption is, he doesn't think people on Medicaid are very bright. Stay far away from this unscrupulous piece of s--t. Just because somebody has letters in front of or behind their name or they brandish a degree on the wall of their office doesn't mean they're knowledgeable or trustworthy. Stay far away from this person. In my opinion, he needs his license revoked--he doesn't deserve to be called a doctor.

10/10! Wow! What an experience! We just recently moved to the area and numerous people suggested…read moreDr. Shoemaker from a Kennesaw Moms FB page so I scheduled an appointment for my child. The initial phone call was very simple and I was able to schedule an appointment for an initial visit and cleaning and they also emailed the documents to complete prior to my visit so that I could be prepared beforehand. When we arrived, there was plenty of parking available outside. We were greeted by a friendly woman at the front desk and were able to quickly check-in and hang over our paperwork. The kids were able to play with the toys and they lit up once they saw the gaming space (one tv had Minecraft and the other had a Super Mario game.) Every single dental assistant and hygienist was VERY friendly and just so sweet and welcoming. They were so kind to my 3 year old daughter who joined me for the appointment and even included her (she has never been to a dentist just yet). Dr. Shoemaker is awesome! So bubbly and friendly, he came in and greeted us, started chatting with my son and instantly made him feel comfortable. We never once felt rushed or out of place. It was very warm and happy experience for both of my kiddos! My son's cleaning and exam was successful, then they allowed both kids to pick out a prize and even gave them balloons. They were ecstatic! Check-out was very simple and I was able to schedule our next appointments. They provide both text reminder and email reminder about appointments. Absolutely recommend 10/10. What a wonderful dentist office!

She had cavities at a very young age and had to be placed under anesthesia to fill and he made sure he explained the process and we had it at the hospital because he was concerned with the size of her tonsils. Long story short his concern led to her pediatrician (who had to clear her for surgery) sending her to an ear nose and throat specialist. We had her tonsils and adenoids removed and we would have never known the issue existed if it hadn't been for Dr Hicks. I wouldn't go anywhere else. The new office is absolutely gorgeous -

It's by far the most beautiful dentist office I've seen, with a lobby that looks like a Vegas hotel lobby. In the new office, they have a gold coin to give to them where they can pick from several candy ball-like machines as a prize. My daughter literally asked when the next time she can get a cleaning because she wanted another gold coin. Brilliant! Highly recommend!

I reached out to the Dentistry for Children 's Douglasville office today to schedule an appointment…read morefor my child. Unfortunately, I was unable to secure an appointment due to a mistake on the part of the office. This was quite disheartening, especially considering the long-standing history my children have had with this office and their ortho office. All 3 of my children have been patients of this office. While I understand that dental offices can be very busy, especially ones that specialize in pediatric care, I felt that the situation could have been handled better. "Andrea", the person who answered the phone was extremely rude and unwilling to even entertain the idea that her computer could have been wrong (she stated that my child hadn't been seen since 2018, and I know for a fact that she had been cleaning in late 2022 because I sat outside the office. She told me that my daughter would have to find another office as, at 16 - she is considered an adult (?!?!?). Andrea placed me on terminal hold and after what seemed like forever, I finally hung up. She did not attempt to contact me or reach out. Clearly, the level of care in both offices has gone severely downhill as my son has had his braces on since October of 2018. They completely abandoned my son during Covid, and then told him to find an ortho at college, dragging his treatment out for 5 YEARS. (2 years longer than he needed). They refused to see him for cleanings, despite having botched his care (malpractice). His braces are still on!!! Today was the final push I needed to realize that despite my efforts to work with this office and remembering how they were pre- Covid, they are simply not the best place for my children, or anyone else's. Missing records, attempts to abandon patients, zero communication. I hope my feedback will be taken as an opportunity for the clinic to improve its process and care, ensuring a better experience for other families but I do not see it happening.

While…read morethis is a business and meant for profit, their customer service and care for individuals is severely lacking. When I call to make appointments, I wait an average of 10 minutes to speak with an employee. My children and I waited for 50 minutes to be seen in April 2021. Our appointment was at 10:00, and we arrived earlier than the appointment time. I politely asked for an update at 10:25 and 10:40. An employee finally came to get my children for their appointments at 10:50. (We had been waiting in the car due to limited seating inside for Covid-19 protocol.) Of the three people that I spoke with during the wait, only one was apologetic or acknowledged the long wait time past our scheduled appointment time. I called that afternoon to cancel all future appointments and deactivate our account. I mentioned that we did not have a good experience that morning and plan to move our children to a different practice. The employee handling the deactivation did not ask for me to explain or elaborate on my experience. She did not apologize for a poor experience. She simply told me that my account was no longer active and to have a nice day. My family will no longer give business to this company as they do not value the individual person.
