I purchased a sofa thats 30% off and got it delivered. Within 3 days the sofa has another $400 discount. I called a few times asking if they could honor the difference and they said no finally. If I really want the difference I should choose to return the sofa and buy another one, then pay the extra shipping fee. I was thinking about buying another table that's worth $600 but the shipping is $100+. Due to this experience I decided to shop somewhere else. After a few days I found the shipping was also free. A few days later I saw bigger discount. I just realized during holiday season, the best way to buy their stuffs is to buy then never schedule a delivery date till you lock the lowest price. read more

I just had two sofas delivered today. I spent 5k. The delivery guys asked me to pay $$ my doorman help them deliver my sofa. I had already paid $250 for "white glove" service. I called the store and the manager straightened him out. But the delivery guy was sooo pissed... I was so uncomfortable being alone in my apartment with two very angry men. They improperly assembled one sofa which now wobbles and the "customer service" rep at the store basically said I had to flip the sofas over and take a picture with a measuring tape of each leg to prove the legs were uneven. My experience here has always been extremely positive. The people who work here are very knowledgeable on the products and customer service has been superb. They are so quick to rectify issues with purchased products. When I was returning/choosing a new rug, Charity and ESPECIALLY David the store manager went above and beyond for me. Dear West Elm - this is a real experience at one of your stores in NYC. Very disappointing experience today 7/27/2018 at around 430PM. Long story below but in a nutshell - Manager has no clue on how to treat customers. I downloaded the Yelp App just to write this review. The long story below: I was at the store on Wednesday evening and my wife and I saw a sofa we liked. The sofa was marked down because it was on display downstairs. We tell the sales person we like the sofa and he tells us the sofa gets an extra 30% discount because the store was on sale putting the sofa a $1,000 even. That price got us really excited. We wrote down the dimensions. We asked the sales person to check the price and he confirmed $1,000. My wife did not want to buy the sofa on the spot as she wanted to make sure the sofa would fit in the space we had in mind. Next day, I go out of town with my family specifically to measure the space where we would put the sofa. It would fit perfectly. I came back to NYC today to purchase the sofa knowing there was a risk the sofa was not there anymore. I got to the store and the sofa was there. I asked for a representative and tell them I want to buy it as the sales person that helped us on Wednesday was not there. She tells me the price is $1,500 not $1,000 as we were told. I asked the salesperson to double check. She calls the manager. I explained the situation and gave them the salesperson name that told me the price was much lower. She wrote the name down and said there was nothing she could do and literally walked away. I tried to explain that I left town and came back just to buy the sofa and pick up other stuff if bought there on Wednesday and she would not even care. Left me there as if West Elm does not care about customers at all. Very bad experience. I am sure they have a lot of people buying expensive furniture there but she made no effort in contacting the salesperson from Wednesday night or even trying to offer a lower price. THE NIGHTMARE STORIES ARE TRUE!! I recently ordered the Hamilton brown leather sectional. The color on the floor and online were different and the salesperson said the floor model was just "worn down" and I should expect the color online. Delivery came on time but upon assembly, the couch and the chaise were completely different colors! (See posted photo) They said this happens 1 in 10 couches ordered!! Apparently, each part comes from different sources so high chance they won't match. For a reputable company, those statistics are horrible! That's way too high for something so blatantly wrong to happen! They said they would bring in a couple more sets for me to inspect before they delivered it. Great. Went in and all 3 sets again didn't match!!! Ridiculous. It's been a month long process and they did refund me, but when I asked about trying to get a matching set again, they said they weren't going to be able to do it. The company doesn't have matching sets?!??? Or they're just too lazy to pursue it further...Has anyone out there actually gotten what the company advertised? I'll be pursuing this at a higher level because I just think this is completely irresponsible. Not to mention, lots of bumps along the road including the credit card that I opened! Alright, I don't know where to start and it pains me to leave such a bad review, because their products are beautiful and have a lovely selection of dinnerware. I'll be definitely coming back to get a few more plates and details for the kitchen. Now, onto the heavy and not so happy stuff: THEY TAKE FOREVER TO DELIVER YOUR ITEMS AND THEY CHARGE A HUGE S**TLOAD OF MONEY TO DO SO. I bought a sofa and a table. The sofa is made on demand, so I do understand that it may take a month to be delivered. Mind you, the month's almost over and they may take 3-4 more weeks to have it delivered. The table: For reasons beyond my comprehension, they sell stuff they don't really have in stock. So, they leave you hanging waiting for the delivery. And yes, of course, they deliver both things together so it doesn't really matter of one of your items is ready to go one week after the purchase. If for whatever reason one of the items is delayed, all of your items will be. How fun is that? As the table is not near to be back in stock, I may need to wait for God knows how long to get both items. Mind again, the delivery IS NOT CHEAP! they charged me almost $300 for the delivery. Customer service (after purchase): awful. They can't help expedite things, or offer any other solutions. I have of course asked to have the items delivered separately. They can't make it happen. My advice? just get and buy whatever they have in the store and you can take with you. read more

Nice designs and but really cold service and cashiers. There is this African American bald male cashier that I've seen quite a few times at the register, not only is he not warm or appreciative at all to the customers, he doesnt even try to be helpful to the other cashiers who are trying to be. He'd cast his judgemental looks on customers to size them up, and then looks as if he has decided "nope I don't feel like serving you", and just turn away. For a store like this that is mainly self help, the cashier could, for many many ppl, be the ONLY touch point in the entire shopping experience. I love the design of west elms product, and have purchased plenty of stuff and furniture, but I've been finding myself taking my business to crate and barrel or room and board, because the icy treatments at west elm. There is just no love for the customers, and no passion for their own brand. And frankly, in their price range, we should be treated better, and there are plenty other stores, within 1 mile radiance, in which we do. Every time I come in here, I kick myself. Yes, the selection is good for housewares and it's a nice place to get away from the cold, but God help you if you actually join the line to buy something. First, the checkout staff is cold--"Could you gift-wrap this, please?" "No, but here's some crumpled-up tissue paper"--and acts as if they're doing you a favor by taking your money. Second, the wait in line is routinely--any time of day!--ten minutes long, because there's always only a maximum of two checkout staff. Today, around 4:00 pm, I watched one cashier arrange a delivery for customers and then try to sell the store card to them for five minutes...while a manager floated by at the other end of the checkout counter and at least three other staffers passed by, apparently oblivious to people in line, who'd been waiting ten minutes. I gave up. Why should I wait around if you clearly think my time isn't worth anything? Walk a block south and you get better quality and better service at Wiliams-Sonoma, where, if they see one person waiting in line, they call someone over and open another cash register...like most reasonable, customer-oriented shops... read more

Top quality! 1) Ordered through the store so we can obtain the unit in 5 days as opposed to 3 weeks online 2) Packaging was great, far superior than crate and barrel and frontgate, was quite impressed that all the nuts and bolts came well organized and laid out in separate packaging on their own 3) Quality of wood feels good, and it's heavy. 4) Appearance is modern, fits well with our apartment decor 5) Customer service was also great, friendly and efficient. I sent the following email and had the following experience with West Elm and furniture ordered. Spent hours on the phone and slow to fix the problems. No resolution for over a month. I am emailing you to confirm the following on the 3 pieces ordered from West Elm where none of them arrived complete or correct: The Henry Sofa arrived without feet and bolts on 9/5 - (Furniture Medic Dispatched on 9/7) Only to find out the Chaise now does not open and close need a full replacement and will not happen until October?!? The Hemming Chair arrived with no hardware on 9/5 - Delivery was refused and it is supposed to be redelivered on 9/14 (new chair from inventory) not unboxed one with no hardware Audrey Buffet - arrived as a Pottery Barn Children's Blue Dresser instead of what was ordered. (need updated delivery asap and not in October!) As discussed we sprung for these items, thinking that because of the higher quality and cost we could expect more. It has turned out to be the complete opposite. I am hoping you can provide updates on the 2 products that needed to be reordered. When we spoke yesterday you told me to expect follow up today. I should have heeded the bad reviews. While their furniture is beautiful, the delivery end of things needs a lot of work! I waited 10 weeks for a couch, only to have to spend 90 minutes on hold (after 2 dropped calls) to figure out when it can be delivered. I have my fingers crossed that tomorrow when the couch arrives, it is as described. There have been two bright spots in the shopping experience, however. The woman at the store who helped me pick out the couch was fantastic! Really patient, informative and gracious. Also, Charles, the last customer service rep I spoke to on the phone, ensured that I got my couch delivered promptly. In the battle of mid-priced modern furniture stores, I would say that Cb2 wins hands down. Great furniture and great customer service. West Elm is missing the latter element. read more

OMFG getting someone to help you in the store is actually impossible. I have been in here a few times (we recently moved...) and each time I had to go hunting for a person who worked there. Sometimes I resorted to asking someone who was already helping someone else to just please find me someone. It is the worst. We bought a bed here. Nothing too special about the experience. We also bought curtains and curtain rods. They had rods in a clearance bin that were missing pieces so be careful with that. Downstairs they have furniture that is on clearance so if you don't mind a few dings, that seems like a good deal. I keep going back to this store because I really think they make quality products but can't they just hire more people?? read more

Don't use West Elm design services. I've gone through 4 designers and different stores for a simple bedroom design and no one finishes anything. Every designer i've met with disappear and stop communicating and never finish. So West Elm, I am impressed! I went to the store about 3 weeks ago and purchased the cutest mid century modern end table (which is all the rage on decorating blogs). The associate who helped me was great, the piece was well made and easy to put together but alas just too small for my living room. I called and was told I have 30 days to return but I couldn't find the email receipt they sent me and I threw out the box. After a quick call to the store - they resent the receipt, and tell me not to worry about the box. I returned it today, 28 days later, as I was out of town for business. They took it back, no hassle, no problems. That's what good customer service is all about, and why stores like West Elm have loyal customers. read more

And there were 2 guys hanging around. One was speaking to another person and one was at a computer. So my fiancée and I waited and waited and waited. Here is a cut and paste of my email to WE, to give you the full picture. The item ordered was the Peggy Mid-century Terminal Chaise Sectional. I will revise my review if West Elm corrects this issue in an acceptable manner. Victoria, The couch was finally delivered (about one hour AFTER the window in which it was supposed to arrive), and the legs for the chaise were missing. In order to reach this discovery, I had to literally seek out a translator, because the delivery men didn't speak a single word of English, and could not even relay the issue to me. It was told to me (through a translator), that the legs were missing and would arrive in two (2) days, and that someone would call me in 15 minutes. Shockingly, no one called me. I called Customer Service several hours later, who then told me the legs would "hopefully" arrive in two (2) weeks. I am currently SIX MONTHS PREGNANT, am being forced to sit on a couch without legs, and can barely stand up after I manage to sit down! Even worse, the cushions are not stuffed enough, and the buttons pop up and turn over every time we sit down. Please have a manager contact me within the next 24 hours to discuss the following: 1) When the legs to the couch will arrive. 2) When someone will arrive to install the legs (and please confirm that they also have the part required to connect the two pieces of the sectional). 3) How we can go about getting replacement cushions with buttons that will remain in tact in the next week. 4) Confirmation that we will receive AT LEAST a 40% discount for this regrettable purchase that we made. This morning I went to West Elm to return the Fair Isle glasses that were sold during holiday season 2014. They were given as a gift from a friend and I loved them! Unfortunately, nowhere on the box did it say that they should not be put in the dishwasher, and after one or two washes, the design started melting off. I assumed that West Elm, being a major company, would have an excellent customer service/return policy. Sadly, I was very wrong. The manager on duty today, Travis, was very rude and in no way helpful, despite the terrible appearance of the product. He offered no alternative, saying that I needed a receipt ("because we can't find out where/when they are from") and was frankly, a bit nasty. I left the glasses there, with no exchange or credit, because their appearance is so bad, I am embarrassed to use them when I have guests. In conclusion, this was a very disappointing exchange at a company who's products I usually like. read more

West Elm sells gorgeous, well-made furniture at reasonable prices -- so lovely that there must be a catch right? Yup, the catch is that if you buy a couch or a sofa seat from this store you better be prepared to sit on the floor of your empty living room, because it will never arrive. I am in the midst of moving to a new home in New Jersey and decided to upgrade our living room. So I went online to the West Elm website. I ordered two Book Nook Armchairs and an accompanying sofa (color Eucalyptus Weave, cost $296 for each chair; Item No 703 4643) and I was told by the operator on the phone that the chairs would ship in "1 to 3 weeks." This is an order that I placed in the last week of August. First week of September, expecting my new furniture to arrive shortly, I sold my current living room furniture on Craigslist. I also ordered a new carpet to match the color of my new furniture from West Elm and paid to have a painting which also matched the hue, framed at a fancy framing shop. By now I am living in a house with no living room furniture, minus a lovely carpet and framed painting in the exact color of the furniture I am expecting to receive shortly. Then on Labor Day weekend I called again to see when it would arrive -- by now I am in week 2, of what they had promised would be a "1-3 week" shipping window. To my frustration the operator tells me that the sofa chairs are out of stock and that I can only have one now and not two (how lame will that look)? And that it will ship Sept 20. So alright -- it's not the end of the world, we decide to wait. Today on Sept 11, I called again to make sure the Sept 20 date is set. Now to my horror the operator says that the furniture I ordered is out of stock and that the vendor "may be ready to ship it in DECEMBER." So basically I am looking at 3 months living in an empty living room. My old furniture has been sold on Craigslist and so I now have nothing. When I protest, he says I can choose another chair online. I go on their website where every item has "1 to 3 weeks" listed as the shipping window. But when the supervisor checks it turns out that all those items too (meaning pretty much the whole store when it comes to sofas and couches and love seats) are on back order and I can expect a "minimum of 10-12 weeks." For the record I spoke to supervisor "Mike" Employee ID 7082011, who kept on saying very nicely that he understand where I am coming from and feels my frustration. Don't order from West Elm unless you subscribe to the Minimalist philosophy of Interior Design -- your living space will literately be empty for months on end as you wait for West Elm to figure out Business 101: How to ship orders to your customers in a reasonable amount of time. read more

Customer service is mixed, majority unhelpful. Online exchange policy weird and unconvenient. Terrible shopping experience. Never will shop at any west elm again. Storytime... We ordered some items online and went into the store to exchange our pillow cases for a smaller size. They didn't have that style in the store so they had to order it online for us and said the shipping would be free. Since we paid with a gift card though, they needed to return the items to their warehouse, process it, send us another card with the store credit (really??? I have never experienced this. Ever.) The sale associate gave us his contact info and said to email him once we get our refund and he will place the order for us. Two weeks later after we receive our credit, we place the order and got an email confirmation with the receipt. Turns out they charged us shipping even though it was suppose to be waived. We replied to his email and didnt get a response. We called the store directly and the manager told us to go into the store to have it be corrected. Unsatisfied with that answer, I called the toll free number and they were able to resolve the issue. Shopping experience aside-- Their stuff is really cute but I would expect better quality for how much we paid. Four stars for the associate who helped me and two stars for West Elm's terrible availability and ridiculous order times and shipping costs. I highly recommend going to the store because orders placed in store have higher priority (according to a sales associate I spoke with) plus you can get free design tips. I worked with Kevin and as soon as I showed him pics of my apartment he immediately knew exactly the pieces I would need. Unfortunately the sofa I wanted would take too long to deliver so I had to forego that as well as other furniture I liked (sorry but I can't wait 2 months until I get furniture)! Plus the shipping and delivery charges are so high an additional $130+ at least depending on the availability. Kevin was great though he definitely advised me on what I should buy at west elm versus other stores. Also push for a 15% discount on everything you buy especially if you just moved. It's critical you get a great sales associate because some associates (uhm Chelsea location snobs) will tell you that you need to bring in a code while other sales associate can just give you that new mover discount. Love their stuff hate their crazy fees and order times so shop with caution. read more

I actually read reviews before my way to West Elm to purchase my furniture. I understand that people had bad experiences, but after careful review, I tried my best to prepare our adventure to the store to make sure everything went smoothly. 1. I went in the morning in the middle of the week, and frankly the staff was great and I did not have to wait around for anyone to help me. 2. The lady was helpful and helped us find ALL our furniture (to match our colors and cabinets, on top of that). We moved to a new place and left all our old furniture behind, so if she gets a commission, she got the jackpot with us. Maybe that is why she was so helpful?! 3. We did have to get the delivery... I was a little nervous about that but apart from having to wait, everything came and they helped us get everything set up. I was surprised! Everytime I come into the store they are jammed packed so I had expected that when I had an order screw up it would be a nightmare to get it resolved. I was super-wrong. Not only did someone answer the phone and patiently listened to me while it was obvious that it was busy in the background, they also found a solution. Corina, was so incredibly helpful to us. She had a calm and friendly demeanor and she had at least 3 or 4 different solutions. I can't tell you what a relief it was to get her to take care of us. Do not buy from this horrible business. In-store customer service was terrible, waited forever, and when I finally placed the order for 4 items, from there everything got completely screwed up. 1 item was defective and needed to be returned and replaced. I spent HOURS on the phone with customer service at least 7 times to correct an incorrect method of return (first they said UPS pick up, then they said West Elm pickup, etc.), incorrect address of pickup, and incorrect delivery of the replacement. After spending 2 hours on the phone with customer service on one night (after hours already spent over the week prior) to confirm the correct delivery of the replacement item, I found out it was STILL being delivered to the wrong address. The last item was on back order and remains on back order weeks longer than originally promised. This company has no respect for their customers' time, and is horribly incompetent. I've never dealt with a company that made so many mistakes over and over again, despite my attempted hand-holding the entire time. I WAS going to purchase another $1600 item from them, but at this point, no way. They cannot even remotely deliver on what they promise. Awful, arrogant, incompetent people. read more

I had just been across the street at Pottery Barn and was completely underwhelmed by the lack of products available in store, and also the grumpy employees, one in particular who didn't seem like she wanted to help me...so needless to say I was thrilled when people offered to help and delivered. Very good experience ordering furniture from this company. I have had pleasant helpful employees in the store. I had a problem getting an insurance form for my building. I called customer service and after speaking to a clueless rep I received an email from the supervisor who was excellent and followed my order until delivery. I had another problem with the delivery scheduler who told me that the legs to the sofa being delivered separately which was not the case. I spent Endless waiting on hold without success to speak with representatives. I finally contacted the supervisor who assured me that the legs would be delivered with the sofa. I ordered a sofa online. A week later i received a call to schedule delivery. Delivery was scheduled in a matter of days and the delivery men showed up earlier than expected. The only problem was that there was an odor with the sofa. I called the delivery rep who was very efficient and told me that they would remove the sofa within a week. I am waiting to hear about the date for them to pick up the sofa. All in all a very stressful experience dealing with this company. Im not ordering anything I can't carry out of the store. read more

really like this store, I almost buy everything in it; great stuff and not overly too expensive, I think it was reasonable. The staff was not all very friendly and that can put anyone off, they have a bunch of hippies trying to convince you that assembly at home it so easy; when you can tell it would take some time and patience to put some of their stuff together. Josh, the associate or manager I had at the register at the UWS West Elm location, went above and beyond in customer service. Earlier in the day, I had purchased dishware in store. When I got home, I saw that it would have been cheaper if I bought the set online. When I returned to the store, Josh informed me that there is currently no code for "sets" in store, meaning I could return the dishware and purchase online. (West Elm - please get on this.) I was ready to return the dishware when Josh said he'd see what he could do. He worked his magic and was actually able to accommodate my request. Josh's positive attitude made my New Yorker negativity melt away. Working in customer service and retail isn't an easy job, and he really went above and beyond to help me out. I will be a repeat customer, for sure. read more

The worst customer service of ANY store ANY company I have ever dealt with. They duplicate orders and you can call 50 times to cancel...they never do. I finally put my credit card charge in dispute. Be prepared to call customer service multiple times on hold for 20 minutes or more "to try" and get mistakes corrected...but they never get corrected. Do not buy furniture from West Elm ! read more

I like West Elm, I like this location, and I have never had any issues here. The customer service has been fine. Go in expecting some items may not be in stock at the location and could be on backorder. We happened to order a sofa that was out of stock, but they called to set up a delivery about 15 days earlier than expected. Yay! The delivery team came within the time window and put together the sofa in under 15 minutes. A couple of their floor pieces do look a bit worn and torn, but overall, the store can give you some good design ideas. read more
