The truffle fries were amazing, but the charcuterie board was okay. The cocktails were fun--my apple pie flavored one was great but I would've preferred it without the whipped cream. The playlist and DJ last Friday was great, but the overall vibes were more chill than expected, maybe because it's still early in the season. The view of the slopes is so nice. We got there around ~2:30 on a Friday and waited over an hour for a table outside, which we didn't mind because we were able to run some other errands in town. read more

We got to Ajax right when they opened. We were seated promptly and our server brought us a high chair and booster seat for our kids. Our server was helpful in finding something that our kiddo with a dairy allergy could have. He had a burger with a sourdough bun! I had the double cheeseburger. My favorite part of the meal was the fries. You can tell they are freshly cut and fried! Delicious! The location and view from Ajax are unbeatable! They have umbrellas covering the entire outdoor seating area which is nice to have with the intense sun. I used to love the place because they had the BEST STEAK SANDWICH ever like omg it was so good. But they took it off the menu!!!! So I got the waygu bolognese which was fine but not anywhere near $40 like that feels like a scam. I get its waygu but i could've gotten the same tasting bolognese at City Market. But I would've paid $100 for that steak sandwich though. Ugh. Petition to bring BACK THE SANDWHICH!!! I'll stand outside Ajax with a sign that says STEAK SANDWICH I miss it so much. My husband and I are staying very near the Ajax Tavern & my brother in law recommended it, so we gave it a try! We were greeted so nicely by the general manager- John, then led to our table and greeted by Katie- our wonderful server! She was very knowledgeable about their menu and helped us make our decisions! We sat outside- which overlooks the Aspen Gondola- so that was pretty cool and the mountains all around are just beautiful!! We ordered a bottle of French Rosé along with the caviar ... we like caviar, but by no means are we experts, but we were very pleased with the CAVIAR REGGIS OVA OSSETRA, served with a Carmelized onion dip and dill potato chips! Yumm!! I ordered the Maine lobster roll and my husband got the Ajax Wagyu Double cheeseburger. We could've upgraded to truffle fries, but we stuck with the regular fries and they were delicious. Both of our sandwiches were so good- very tasty and fresh. It's a beautiful setting for beautiful food. It was definitely a great lunch experience and I would highly recommend it. read more

The burger was way overcooked and average at best. Cp burger far better. The chicken for the salad was undercooked. My son liked the steak sandwich though. You pay for location and ambiance but definitely not the food. The service was average at best as well. Server forgot several things we asked for. We had to wave a server down to get help various times. For the price it's a ripoff in so many ways. Hope they improve dramatically. read more

My family eats at Ajax every time we come to Aspen as it's so conveniently close to the gondolas. My family wanted to call out the amazing service that Ani, our waitress, provided. She ensured that our son (with a dairy allergy) got a burger with sourdough bread to be compliant with his allergies, and she brought a wonderful burger/aoli sauce that was dairy free. The staff also kindly provided a high chair and booster seat. The food came out quickly and the fries were perfectly seasoned. The only constructive criticism I had was that the burger patties (in the adult double cheeseburger I ordered) was a a little dry/overcooked, but maybe they are trying to achieve more of a smash burger style, which if that is the case, the burgers were cooked as intended. All-in-all, the experience was great, and if there are families of young kids, we would recommend getting there right when they open for lunch at 11:30! read more

Solid meal at the base of Ajax mountain. Prices were a bit steep but at least it was good. $31.00 for a Wagu burger...I really couldn't tell if it was any better than a regular burger. The fries were delicious. When in Aspen you expect to pay Aspen prices. My son had the muscles and he said they were really good and it was a good size. read more

Post Aspen Valley marathon lunch was enjoyed at Ajax! I ordered the cheeseburger and truffle fries. Delish! I had about half and later regret tossing the other half outside of the airport when my flight was later cancelled. I was wishing I had the remainder of my meal for dinner. I was seated immediately upon my arrival and service was great! Gorgeous views. Fries - our group shared the perfect appetizer of fries, which easily catered to 2 to 4 people and arrived in a sizable tower.. Pretty tasty highly recommend. Outdoor area - During the summer, one of the best things about Aspen is their spacious outdoor area. I highly recommend sitting outside, as every table is covered and has one to two umbrellas to provide shade from the sun. Tavern/restaurant at the Little Nell, one of the super expensive hotel at the base of Aspen Mountain. Went on a weeknight before 6pm, and the place wasn't too busy. Mid-size indoor space, and also has some outdoor space that's probably open during the day. Menu has the beers, cocktails, and food items from a tavern/sit-down restaurant, but of course a bit pricier since it's a fancy hotel in Aspen. Got the wagyu double cheeseburger, and upgraded the fries to truffle fries. The burger is pretty hefty, with a nice shiny bun. The wagyu beef patties are very flavorful and juicy. The truffle fries were also very tasty. Crispy with the truffle oil, parmesan and herbs, and they give you plenty. Total was $38 before tax and tip. Definitely pricey for a pub style burger and fries, but it was pretty tasty. Service at Ajax Tavern was really good as well. read more

We came here for dinner, not aprés, though if that is your jam, this is the place to be! We sat inside, and it was a lovely atmosphere. The service was friendly and attentive. I got the roasted chayote dish with goat cheese and lentils. It was a great vegetarian option! The romesco had a little kick. The Brussels were delicious. First off, I would say Ajax is a must-do when you are in Aspen. There's something so great about sitting outside right at the base of the mountain, watching skiers and snowboarders. Our server was good - hit the right balance of being attentive without making us feel rushed. We obviously had Veuve, since it would be a crime NOT to have don't at Ajax. The truffle fries were fresh, hot, and delicious. My husband got the burger, which he said was decent but not great. I got the wagyu bolognese, which was absolutely incredible! The pasta was perfectly cooked, the wagyu was tender, and the sauce was flavorful. Highly recommend! Definitely don't miss Ajax the next time you're in Aspen! read more

If you want to sit outside you absolutely need to plan ahead. We weren't worried where we sat but I wanted to mention this because every time I have come here it's several hours wait. Great place to spend an afternoon just plan ahead. This time we sat inside and grabbed a drink. Everywhere in Aspen will break the bank so we know what our expectations were going in. The staff was lovely but didn't understand the menu any better than we did and we ended up ordering head cheese on accident with the charcuterie. They also told us that it came with cheese, which it didn't which doubled the cost of the charcuterie. The whole experience was fun but nothing memorable- except for my mom eating head cheese trying to figure out what it was (fyi, it's meat jelly). There are other options in town that are way better so I think Ajax, especially inside is just ok. read more

The cuisine in this place is above average for astronomical prices. You can get regular French fries with your $27.00 burger or pay $9.00 extra for "truffle fries". FYI there are no truffles in truffle fries. They pour a little infused oil and sprinkle some parmigiana cheese. My main gripe about this place besides the inflated costs is the rudeness of the hosts. There are usually at least three of them and they can be really unpleasant. read more

Very hit or miss. Location is great. Stick to the easy salmon tartar, wagyu carpaccio, burger, fries, and the salmon. Needs improvement is the steak au jus which was way too much bread for the steak. The squash entree -- have to be a hardcore vegan to enjoy it. Service doesn't need to be good which is a lucky thing. read more

Some Aspen locals recommend Ajax Tavern for their burgers. I guess we asked the wrong people. The food was horrible and price was OUTRAGEOUS! One lousy cheeseburger split in half with side truffle fries came to $55 after tip and tax! Can you believe that?! I'd be more than happy to pay that price if it was a premium gourmet burger but their so-called Wagyu beef is nothing like Wagyu. It tastes and smells like the cheapest greasy patty at a burger kiosk selling for $5. Truffle fries were also too greasy and overcooked and almost inedible. Great place to ruin your night. Understood that it's slow season and moreover, it's Aspen- its a pricey town. However this place takes a dive when nobody's around and still happens to charge a premium. I guess when the cats away... We had the red trout and wagyu bolognese. For starters the short rib French soup and shishito peppers. Service was attentive by Jackie- but I will say, I hate nothing more than people standing around, behind bars and hostess desks. It drives me nuts. If the whole experience was perfect and food Michelin quality. Sure. Bolognese was good. Pasta a bit shy of al dente. Trout was done right but the smoked purée was PURE liquid smoke- unpalatable. And the bed of shaved Brussel sprouts was salty beyond salt. The shishito peppers and onion soup were also spot on. Not the best. Regardless of how amazing it looks. I will say- you want a quick expensive lunch? Go for it. You want dinner? Go elsewhere. read more

My wife accidentally left behind a shopping bag containing a brand new pair of sunglasses she had purchased earlier that day. When she returned to retrieve them, our interaction with a server named Carson was deeply disappointing. Instead of simply confirming ownership in a courteous and professional manner, Carson repeatedly questioned whether the sunglasses were actually hers. He kept emphasizing that they were brand new and worth around $600, making it clear that he found it difficult to believe they belonged to her. It was impossible not to feel that she was being judged based solely on her appearance. There is absolutely nothing wrong with verifying ownership of a valuable item. In fact, we appreciate businesses that take lost property seriously. What is unacceptable is allowing assumptions and stereotypes to influence how customers are treated. One lesson worth remembering is that genuine elegance and long established wealth rarely need to announce themselves. Those who have had the privilege of success across generations often feel no need to advertise it with designer logos or outward displays. True class is reflected in education, humility, confidence, and, above all, in the way people treat others. Ironically, Carson's assumptions said far more about his own judgment than they did about my wife. No customer should ever be made to feel that they need to "look wealthy" in order to be treated with respect. We hope management addresses this issue seriously. The mediocre food was forgettable. Being judged and treated with prejudice is not. Every guest deserves to be treated with courtesy, professionalism, and dignity, regardless of how they are dressed or what assumptions someone chooses to make about them.

Now the bad part, managers or owners of Ajax if you are reading...reconsider your front of the house staff. We came in on Wednesday about 8pm. We were seated and drink orders taken. The wait staff decided to stand near our table (empty restaurant) and speak as loudly as they could about how they hope we don't order dinner because they close at 11pm and really want to get out of here. They continued their whining and huffing and puffing so that we could hear what a nuisance we were for being there 3 hours before they are suppose to close. We never got offered another round of drinks...what a surprise! Just a check and the evil eye. We came in on December 7th, just in case you need to review who was on staff. Couldn't even remember the food because the staff was like a bunch of bratty whiny kids without their ipads. This place is NOT recommended. read more

Wow, what a bash by ex-Mayor Willie Brown, an African-American: I really knew I was in the wrong world when I walked into a restaurant called the Ajax Tavern for lunch. There were only two other parties in the place. They sat me back by the kitchen, and when the food came it was colder than my water glass. We were here with a pregnant woman who wanted to sit at an empty table while we waited for a table to open in the heated tent. There were other empty tables outside and they insisted that we get up and refused to take our order for coffee. The hostess was incredibly rude. We asked to speak to a manager who was even worse. I made reservations through Open Table and was pleasantly surprised by the delicious menu and friendly staff. Our server gave us great recommendations on wine and lead us to a better decision on our choice for snowmobiling tours. We had dinner, so the atmosphere was romantic and moody. It came sliced in three so the portion was massive. The chicken had more of a Japanese katsu style breading on it so it was super crispy. The burger was also a solid choice. Great bun to filling ratio and the spicy slaw was a complemented the burger well. The fries were pricey and I didn't realize that they weren't a side but an appetizer, but these fries were super crispy and delicious. You could tell that they were fried freshly on the spot. The creamy sauce it came with paired well with them! Deviled eggs were savory and had a kick from the pickle relish. This was my first time eating creamed corn and I liked it! It was warm and creamy, with a slight kick from the jalapeño slices.
