Do not let CarStar touch your car if you need a functional vehicle. I now have car that is two weeks old that runs rougher than my other car that is 25 years old. Here is the service you can expect with their guarantee. My new car was involved in a low speed accident in a parking lot that damaged the frame, a tire, and some side panels. All cosmetic damage has been successfully repaired. However the car idles very rough to the point of vibrations in the dashboard. Carstar was unable to diagnose the issue so I took it to Subaru. Subaru reports back that the transmission mount is bent and as is part of the frame. I bring it back to Carstar to have it fixed but Carstar still won't fix the issue since it passes their tests. I've lived near this auto body shop for 10 years but haven't needed service there because for the past 19 years I have worked in a body shop myself, as an estimator. Recently I took a job that has me on the insurance end of the repair process and I found myself needing auto body service so I figured I would give them a try. My window regulator broke and my window wouldn't stay up. Pros: they were nice to me when I walked in without an appointment and asked for help. They also duct taped my window up until I could figure out what I was going to do with my window. I would have had it fixed there if they were fair to me because they were nice. They recently became part of the CARSTAR network which is a step up and something that they should be proud of. Cons: As an estimator myself I KNOW that replacing a window regulator is a BODY operation, not a mechanical operation. If they asked an insurance company to pay them mechanical rate ($90.00 per hour) to replace a window regulator they would be laughed at. It would never happen. That's what they tried to do to me. When I explained my background and that I've worked in a body shop for 19 years and according to their estimating system, it should be body rate, he told me on small jobs he always charges mechanical, even on mirrors. (this can ONLY happen to people who pay cash by the way, because the insurance would never allow this!). He said that "he would never make any money". So basically unless your insurance is there to fight for you he will take advantage of you. A "mechanics knowledge" isn't needed to replace the mirror, nor the regulator. A body technician can do those operations, hence, the "body rate" vs. "mechanical rate". Mechanical rate is reserved for suspension components, alignments, air bag components, etc. Things that require additional technical knowledge. My car is a 2001 and I wanted to purchase a used regulator, or an aftermarket one to save myself money. He told me I would have to buy a complete used door to obtain that part. Again, a LIE. You can purchase it separately, I have a 4 door and have to do this more than once and have never had an issue buying one single used part. I offered to buy the part myself and pay him his labor. I wasn't expecting any type of warranty or anything on the part - that would be my responsibility, I know this. He didn't seem interested in my small repair. I did appreciate the duct tape, for real, because today it's raining and my car would be all wet so I gave them an extra star for helping me with that. I am disappointed that he tried to overcharge ($135.00!) for something that literally takes 30 minutes. I was fine even paying "book time" which is approximately 1.4 hours x their labor rate of $48.00, which is about $70.00. If I ever get into a major accident I will choose somewhere else because to me they seem dishonest. Wherever I worked, I tried to help the people who were paying on their own and I gave them the same discounted rates we would give the insurance company. And when you're nice to people and you help them out by being fair and honest guess what happens when they get into a big accident? Yep, they remember you and come back so that you can help them again. They trust you! I gave you a try West-Hill and you disappointed me. I am bummed because you were so close to my house, but I don't mind driving a little further to deal with honesty. Even when I made you aware that I knew better you kept trying to lie. Car had 'check engine' light on and was making a noise. Per Google, the code had something to due with the engine. Called and made appointment for Westhill Carstar Auto Body (Hillside, IL) was told $45 to check it out. Per Westhill, suggested new engine. Could rebuild original but most likely cheaper to buy new engine. Asked what was wrong with the engine. He said he didn't know, but if I wanted him to look at it, he would scheule another appointment to look at the engine. Ask how much for new engine. He said if I'm interested, he would work up estimate and cost of labor. Then he mentioned he saw the sticker on the windshield for past oil change, and asked if I wanted an oil change. I asked will that fix the engine? He said no. I asked why would I want an oil change if I was to get a new engine? This place is a rip off. I paid $45 to Westhill when I got the same info for free from Google. Westhill did not do anything for the $45. No estimates, didn't look at engine and tried to scam me into getting an oil change. When I picked up my car, told girl who took my money that I was going to write a bad review, she said: whatever. read more

I couldn't say a bad word about West Hill if I tried. My Volvo was in an a bad accident over the winter and I had it brought here because a relative had repair work done here in the past, and I knew they were stand-up guys. Anyway, I made a phone call, had my car picked up on a Saturday by a friendly driver (even though the shop is closed on Saturdays), and contact between them and my insurance company commenced immediately. They took care of so much that there wasn't really anything for me to worry about other than just waiting until it was finished. They did a great job on the car - it was close to 5 figures worth of damage and you'd never ever be able to tell it was hit. The amount of work these guys must have done to the car was extensive and there isn't a single thing wrong with it after 2 months of driving it. I'll just add that the whole staff is pleasant to deal with as well. read more

Worked with Joe here, had a shattered sunroof and he fixed it overnight. Then scheduled a follow up to fix the related dent in the roof. Work was very good and they were very friendly with their communications. Haven't had too many problems with my car thus far, but I would certainly recommend them for any other issues, especially relating to body damage. I brought my 09 dodge charger in to this auto shop 2 years ago and I'm still having problems. 1st they told me i needed to replace my fuel pump. Ok that's a little over $500 bucks. Then a week later my car stopped on the expressway in the middle of my morning commute to work. THAT WAS TERRIFYING!! BTW, there was construction going on and it was hard to get to the shoulder. Got the car towed back to them. I was told I needed another fuel pump. WHAT!!!??? I was told by them that my car comes with 2 fuel pumps and they didn't know that. Ok, that's another $500 bucks! Got the car back and then the engine light comes on and off, and the fuel level sensor stopped working. Bring the car in, light goes off. Car stops on the way to work 3 or 4 more times. I was told there was no gas in my car all those times. Mind you all these times in paying for towing. 2 years later, I'm told I have to replace the fuel pumps to fix the fuel level sensors, and guess what? The warranty is expired with this auto shop and I have to pay another $1000 to get my car fixed. I was told they didn't even replace my fuel pumps, they just tried to repair the old ones...... and failed DO NOT USE THIS AUTO SHOP!!!!!! read more

I had a very good expereince at west-hill. My 2 month old car was in a minor fender bender in a aparking lot, I chose west-hill because they have a great reputation. They completely fixed my car and it looks like new again. I was so happy that they allowed me to pick up my car on Saturday (they are closed on the weekend) they had someone come in just for me. Insurance paid for everything. I just wish they would have done a better vacuum job on the inside of the car afterwards, but hey they arent a detail service. read more

West-Hill is amazing! Twice in the last 12 years I've had to take my car in to their shop for body work. Twice they have mde my car look brand new! I cannot speak highly enough about their work. They are attentive to detail and concerned about their customer. I brought my car in for an estimate after an accident and what I thought was fine, just cosmetic, apparently was not. They informed me that while I could still drive, my inability to actually open my hood could be very dangerous and took my car on the spot (thank goodness for State Farm, too!). I came to West Hill after reading many good reviews and being recommended by a co-worker. I have a 1984 50th Anniversary 300zx. This car means a lot to me and I was trying to get it partially restored. I wanted a shop that had a lot of experience. I wish I had never come here. I talked to John and he made me feel like they knew what they were doing. He spoke of doing things right and well. Initially I had them re-seal rear quarter windows, tail lights, and side markers. I also had them repair rust in trunk and under rear bumper. First they were unable to properly get my windows in right. They scratched the tint very badly on one side. He kept saying over and over again he was going to fix them(but he never did). He fixed one side later but then would not fix the other side. He just blamed it on it is an old car . The rust repair was of very poor quality. The repainting of said areas had poor coverage and was very rough. They repaired rust damage around trunk top and managed to hack out a chunk of metal along the trunk rim. It is covered by the weather seal so they just left it. When I asked if they would do something about it, they would not. I guess they thought I would not see it. LOL. When the car was returned to me the first time it was FILTHY! There was grinded rust everywhere! They also attempted to repair rust underneath rear bumper with also poor results. I have primer over spray all over my side skirts. The bottoms of the fenders they painted with a paint brush and it looks horrible. Again I don t think they thought I would look under the bumper. When I looked right in front of my face was a surface that clearly still had corrosion that they supposedly fixed. When I showed them this he started trying to say that he had only said he would repair corrosion head on viewing the rear of the car not under it. Sounds crazy right? I asked him why if I paid for them to do that area they had not. Again he began answering in circles. Quite possibly the worst part though, was when I returned it to them the first time. An hour after dropping it off to them, I received a call from them saying that my car had been hit in their parking lot. Wow. That is all I can say. So they hit my car and it needed a new bumper cover. The Anniversary paint is very special. I asked them if they knew that they could replicate it and they said they could. Basically they kept my car for over a month, and the job is horrible that they did again. They couldn t get the line of paint level, the pin stripes were off level, the paint is very bad, there are many spots where it looks like they tried to sand it but left crazy scrapes in the paint. They also tried to repair my front fender bottoms. They left primer on the edges where they didn t cover with the paint. When I asked them to fix the fenders they told me a different story than what they gave me back. They said they were going to weld new metal and then make it look like new on one side. The other they said they were going to grind it and fill with fiber glass to make it thicker. None of this was done. They grinded the metal and then epoxyed a piece of metal onto the back of the fender. WOW! My car also has many new dents in my driver door as well as other places it did not before I gave it to them. The amount of money givin to this shop did not in any way reflect the work that was given back to me. This shop falsely represents it abilities. If you have a car that is important to you, then stay away from here. I gave my car back to them 3 different time due to poor workmanship. After the third time of returning it, I knew they were incapable of doing auto body repair work. This place has no eye for detail, which makes no sense if you are trying to repair people s loved cars. I would give 0 stars if I could. Each time I returned the car to them, they kept saying we can t believe the things you notice . Sounds like a great place huh?
