Previously he saw me and ignored me knowing I was waiting then helped another customer that just walked in. Very bad experience and maybe because I wasn't a local. Went into West Marine with my brother to buy a pair of shoes. We were cramped for time so we went here instead of driving to the mall or Harbor Center. This store was amazingly exciting inside. It was very clean and well appointed with staff. I have been around boats my entire life and they have everything needed from rope to radar. There was a line waiting to check out but staff members walked from the back to assist us and helped us check out at another cash register on the side. The location is fantastic, near the marinas on Edgewood Road and next to Quiet Waters Park. There is a wide variety of clothing and shoes offered at this store as well. Many items on clearence or deeply discounted. The prices weren't too bad for a high-end boating store. read more

This is a long overdue review while in quarantine that I've been meaning to post: Great store geared to the outdoors aficionados. Geared more specifically to the waterman: boat equipment, kayaks, nautical gear, SUP, etc; however they carry some hiking gear for men and women alike, they even sell Halley Hansen & Sperry. Two stars for the flagship Annapolis West Marine makes me sad. Since the renovation they have beefed up the staff numbers. Unfortunately not only is marine knowledge lacking they don't even know how their own systems work. I should not be able to find their part number for a part on my phone faster than they can with Spyglass. It should not take twenty minutes to find a product that has been prepaid over the phone. If this is what a West Marine Pro (nee Port Supply) experiences what about regular boaters who can't tell how bad the advice is? read more

This Annapolis location is horrible. Let's start off after the greeting from the cashier when I entered. I asked for the location for gas caps - mind you, I'm a new boater so I didn't know to ask for "deck caps" BUT no big deal. Once I noticed I was in the wrong area, I walked around and found an associate (young guy) and asked for the right aisle. I also asked for assistance since I didn't know what I was really looking for and was told "They want me in back" ... wow, ok, didn't know customers came second. However, he did offer to "send" someone over so I walked back over to the wrong gas cap isle to wait for someone. After several minutes passed, I walked up from to ask the cashier who greeted me if she could provide assistance for gas caps. She spoke with another associate who accompanied me to the correct isle. I told the associate I was new to boating and didn't know what I was looking for ... this associate seemed put off by the many questions I was asking and didn't really provide any guidance nor real assistance and kept trying to walk off. So, once he walked off, I walked over to another associate near the batteries and asked for assistance again and if he could look up the correct size that I needed. Although he did lookup the information, it seemed like it's a bothersome process for employees to really assist customers. After purchasing and leaving with what I found out later to be the wrong part/size I didn't bother going back to this store and urge other "newbies" to stay away as well. A training day is definitely in order for this location. read more

I can't tell you enough how cognitive, receptive and knowledgeable your associate Richard B. is, and rare to find in the retail stores today. I've learned a great deal and been recommended what to purchase and what I needed. He has always spoken of the entire staff as a team and that anyone can help me anytime as well, and he's gone out of his way to find items and let me know. He's one of the, most knowledgeable and passionate about boating, receptive and reactive people I've ever met, wanting to help and getting things done Richard B. in the Hillsmere Dr Annapolis MD store, has from the start of me quickly walking into the store one summer Friday evening straight to an accessory aisle toward the middle of the store..we only exchanged glances upon entering the store and greeted each other, but he NOTICED I needed assistance as I remained quickly walking. He REACTED, greeted me, and paralleled me walking himself back to the aisle I was in and met me there; listening to my needs, letting me talk, assisting me with an item way up high on the top shelf, he's tall as well, understanding my urgency, and making suggestions. read more

Go to Fawcetts. Just down the street. Local business. Much more knowledgeable. Actually customer service oriented. Associates will actually speak to you rather than avoid you like they do at West Marine. I was literally bumped into today by an associate to help someone else that had walked up to the service counter after me. Then skipped by another employee after that to lead someone else up to the counter and put them in front of me in line. From now on, I'll go to Fawcetts. Even if I have to order something from them that may take a couple of days or pay a couple of dollars more. read more

This store had very young and unprepared workers for this business. Their lack of knowledge at even knowing what a crescent wrench is and then hiding a customers bike and pretending it was gone (because they thought it was funny) was beyond my comprehension. Thank goodness Fawcetts Marine is around the corner. read more

Their rigging shop is top notch, you simply won't find a better one anywhere for any amount of money. I mean this, if you need rigging work, come here and no where else. Their staff is helpful and courteous, they will bring out catalogue after catalogue to see if not only can they fix your broken part, but potentially save you money by going directly to the manufacturer and seeing if they can order just the bit that's broken. They stand behind everything they sell. If you have a little kid who wants a fishing pole, and you know they will break it, my advise is to go to West Marine, get the cheapest pole they have and the best warrantee. They will replace it quickly without a fuss. You can also look up the price on Amazon and if it's cheaper there, they will match it. read more
