We stopped at this place after a long drive from NY-hungry, cranky and tired. The place is small but has a nice outside seating area. It was a beautiful evening so many sat outside while we grabbed the only table inside. We ordered everything from burritos, cheeseburgers, ribs and pulled pork. Unfortunately, several large parties had sat right before us and we wound up waiting over an hour for our food. The waitstaff was really great and apologized for the kitchen backup and offered us several Complimentary options (free beverages, desserts, etc.) to accommodate our wait. The food was fantastic-all of it! They even brought out a complimentary chocolate lava cake with a candle in it for a family members birthday! Let me just add that I've seen a few reviews that refer to the bbq sauce as sweet. I really don't find it sweet at all actually. It has kind of a super mild kick to it that I find addicting. I put it on my brisket. I put it on my fries. I put it on my shoe... But I digress. My husband swears by their hamburger, which he gets with bacon, cheese and a fried egg on top. Let's start out by saying I've never had classic southern style BBQ. Texas style, St Louis style, Appalachia.... Never had classic BBQ in the southern states, so take this review for what its worth. For central MA, its awesome. Food is delicious and the ribs fall off the bone. Sides are decent. Stay away from the sweet potato fries. They're not all that. Also, no Mac and cheese side, so I don't know what that's about. Potato salad has egg in it, which is a plus. I know they probably use some quick heat method for a lot of their food because its so small, but that's fine. Prices are OK. Expect to pay about $15-20 per person but you may end up with leftovers. read more

They have plenty of outdoor seating, Friendly staff, and a large menu that features more than just barbecue. You can get anything from salad to a burger to more traditional BBQ fare. I opted for a combo that came with hot chicken wings, pulled pork, and ribs. My favorite item was the wings, and I will be going back to try other s flavor options. I also added baked beans on as a side. There was so much food for 15 dollars that I took half home to enjoy the next day (and I'm not the kind of person who typically leaves food on her plate). This review is a combination of 2 separate times I ate here. Honestly I have to say I'm amazed at all the good reviews. Maybe this is just bad luck for me but the first time I went there I waited over 2 hours! They told me repeatedly that they were extremely busy...the place wasn't even half full. So I am used to waiting a long time for my food but I expect the longer I wait the better the food. That's the BBQ way I suppose. Slow and low... This was not the case. You could say there food was mediocre at best but for the time that I waited it was horrible. Pulled pork that tasted like it came from a can. Chicken dry. Brisket o so bland. Very little thought went into the spices in any of our foods. After such a long wait, boring food, and a very apologetic waiter we got our $70 meal taken care of. The only reason I can give two stars is because they had the decency to do that. I hate writing places off from one bad experience. Maybe they were busy, everyone has an off day. So lunch break two months later I tried their steak burger. After standing around waiting for someone to knowledge a customer is standing in the front to pick up his order I'm ready to chow. A slab of steak, cheese, bulky rolls! How can you go wrong?......what was I thinking. Dry and tough like leather. :( disappointment. So in closing...A barbecue joint like this does serve a purpose however. it is BYOB and very close to college housing. the prices are also cheap. This restaurant is a must visit if you are in Worcester. They have excellent barbecue, mostly Kansas City style, meaning they do the low and slow cooking in a smoker, then add sweet and smoky sauces. I have tried many things from this place and have always been satisfied. The service is very professional, friendly, and welcoming. I highly recommend stopping in and trying them out. My favorite item on the menu is the West Side combo, which gets you 2 pulled pork sliders, 2 ribs (you can choose lean or fatty), and 2 wings seasoned the way you choose. I've only tried one dish at West Side Barbecue, which is the pulled pork sandwich. I use this as my standard to which I measure all BBQ I go to. I've ordered it several times and the meat is always tender and juicy, with just the right amount of sauce (not dripping, but not dry). The sweet potato fries are a must! This place opened up a few years ago not too far from where I live. I usualy get a combo plate. It is HUGE. Comes with 3 meats (I usualy go with ribs pulled pork and chicken) and like 5 or 6 sides.I split it with my wife and have leftovers for lunch the next day. Its awesome and not too expensive. The place is byob and right next to a package store. The best part is the employees. They are very nice. I know what you are thinking, all waitresses are nice cause they work for tips, but these people are just genuine kind people. I think it is family run. Tonight, after at least 5 years I gave this establishment another chance. I ordered 1lb of pulled pork to go. How can one screw this up? It took 20 minutes, which I was hoping was a good sign. I got home to find a microwaved 14ozs of BBQ sauce ladened pork, clearly not 16ozs. It was $15 to boot. Do yourself a favor and head across town to the other BBQ joint in town. West Side is a hidden gem of Worcester. I typically get the West Side Combo, which includes pulled pork sandwiches, ribs (your choice of regular or the leaner St. Louis style) and chicken wings (choose between buffalo, bbq, and more flavors). All of their meats are out of this world. The pulled pork, chicken, and ribs are all very lean, tender, and delicious. The fries are great too. If you aren't a fan of meat, I've heard great things about their tacos though I've never tried them myself. I can't go here without ordering the West Side Combo, because it is one of my favorite meals ever. If you're a fan of meat and protein, you're going to love this meal. I've sat down in the restaurant before although I consider it more of a take-out place. The staff is always friendly and the food is always hot and ready when I get there. I'm a BBQ fanatic. Any time your pulled pork is served drowned in sauce - it's a bad sign and you're likely trying to hide something. Serve me up some quality meat and let me sauce to taste. Over-priced for what was the equivalent of Lloy'ds from the grocery store. The sauce recipe is lack-luster, which made the fact that my sandwich was drenched in it all the worse. So when I found this place I was excited because I usually have to cook it myself up here in Worcester. But that excitement quickly changed once I tasted what they served me. We ordered a rack of the St. Louis Ribs, some hard shell tacos, beans, and cole slaw. The ribs not only tasted like cardboard but also felt and smelled like it. EXTREMELY DRY MEAT. The tacos were even worse. The shells tasted like play-doh which ruined the whole thing obviously. Not much to say about the beans or cole slaw, nothing special at all. This is NOT a Worcester gem like some have said in reviews before me. I also don't usually give such a low rating but they gave me nothing to work with. This place was a very pleasant surprise. My husband and I live within walking distance and enjoy taking a Sunday afternoon stroll to get some great BBQ. Their pulled pork is tender and delicious and their cornbread is also very well done. My husband is a big fan of their macaroni salad and cole slaw slides. He also loves that it's BYOB and there's a liquor store right next store. When my mom came to visit from NY she purchased a pound of pulled pork and a bunch of slides to take home with her...she loved it! Overall it is very reasonably priced and service is very good. Only downside is there's no AC in the summer. There is outdoor seating, but I don't like sitting outside where the smokers are. I think it's definitely better than Smokestack Urban BBQ. And in my opinion the pulled pork is better than BT's Smokehouse in Sturbridge, but BT's beef brisket can't be beat. Enjoy! read more
