I've been to a few different Hollywood Market locations over the years, and they never disappoint -- but the one on Campbell Road in Royal Oak really stands out. The main reason I stopped in was because I heard they were carrying Kole's Flint Style Coney Sauce, and as a big fan of Flint-style coneys, I had to check it out. Not only did they have it, but I ended up picking up some other groceries too because everything looked so fresh and well-stocked. I have to say, it feels like Hollywood Market must have some of the best training around -- every single staff member I've interacted with has been super friendly and helpful, and that was absolutely true at this location as well. It's rare these days to find a grocery store where customer service is consistently this good. This is definitely a great spot, and I'll absolutely be coming back -- especially for that Flint Style Coney sauce! read more

Placed an order for work for over a 120+ fresh hamburger patties. Spoke with Dave in the meat department and told him I was looking for 1/2 lb patties. He told me that they don't have a press for them but would get one. Between each patty was a sheet a paper to avoid the patties sticking together. When I picked up my order, everything was packaged as I had instructed. The BBQ luncheon was a huge success! Employees kept asking where did I get the meat from and my boss (who is a world traveler) told me they were the best tasting burgers he had ever had. He even texted later that day to say how impressed he was with the burgers. Needless to say, Hollywood Market will definitely be getting our business again for our company BBQs. BTW I also ordered their cheesy potatoes from deli department, and I highly recommend them as well. I was a pleasure doing business them. I suggest if you're interested, give them a try. Their store also offers/stocks items not available in the major chain stores which makes shopping there worthwhile. read more

Really Hollwood??? 7:30 on a Friday night, if there were 5 people in the store, that would be an exaggeration!! When I questioned the deli person about when the meat was sliced, I received a smart mouth answer, which one? and I've been slicing all day! You sure have been slicing all day, I can see by the mounds of pre-sliced meat sitting there. Needless to say she pissed me off and no meat was purchased, the list of items I needed, with the exception of coffee, were left behind. In addition, as getting to the coffee, the girl at the meat counters was laughing as she heard me complaining to my companion. In this economy I am shocked, good luck going forward. read more

We go to Hollywood when we are looking for good chicken and beef options, they're better then our local grocery store. Of course that means we're picking up other stuff too. They have a good selection of items but I try to avoid this store for stocking up as their prices are definitely higher then Kroger and Value Center. Guess I'm either poor or cheap. I've also had issues with their produce not being as good as it looked. They also don't have a good fish selection which I would like - but it seems that's a common problem in this area. Coming from Grosse Pointe we had an abundance of places to get decent fish and I miss that. A good option for us if we want to stock up on meat or pick up a few items, but not our go to place. read more

I have been shopping here for years. I have to say in the last few years the produce has been awful. I have purchased items that are rotten when I get them home. I know that it is hard to get produce that is good nowadays but not this poor. Plus the prices are insane for poor produce. They do have a decent organic section but again the lettuce is ALWAYS brown and the potatoes were runny and moldy in the display. I told someone who worked in the dept. and the next week they were still out on display. I know it is hard to get good help these days but I put this on management for not checking over what all their employees are doing. Another thing is if you buy any of their bread if you don't eat it within two or three days you're going to get moldy bread. This is not for basic bread this is for bread that comes from their deli. I had pita bread that was moldy after four days and pita bread stays for a long time. I know that if things get moldy it means they are usually not packed with preservatives which is a good thing but when you bring something back they act like you're trying to pull one over. I spend at least two to $300 every few weeks at the store and I have stopped bothering to take items back that are messed up because I get such aggro from the managers. Any other store if you have an issue they're happy to give you your money back or replace it without issue. Especially, when you have the receipt and it's a day or two after you've purchased it and not trying to scam them. I can add up the times that things have been incorrectly labeled and I have overpaid without complaining so if I actually take the time to complain then there is really an issue. They do have a great selection of Amy's organic and tattooed chef. Also if you do a bit of searching you can find some other vegan and veggie options that are not at the Royal Oak store. Don't get me started on the Royal Oak store. I hate to give such a low rating because I do shop here often and I find great items I won't say good prices but I'll say good items that are nice to have at a local store. I don't usually complain about the prices by any way shape or form because I understand not a lot of people purchase these and they're going to be overpriced but when you overprice your produce and it's consistently bad that's when I have an issue. The only reason I have left this review is hoping that they hear me and they might actually start to do some thing about the produce because not all of Americans live off of beef and chicken. I would say meat and potatoes but the potatoes are rotten so I can't even go there.. Please step up the produce so I can step up my rating. read more

Our neighborhood grocery store! We visit here for all of our grocery, my favorite parts are the meat and deli counters. Here, we've gotten to know many of the employees by name and enjoy seeing them week over week. Mike, Michelle, Rudy, Ross are all a joy to see. Helpful and just great people. read more

Went back to get some incredible Popcorn that I had last time, but this time was very disappointed. It tasted Very weak flavored popcorn and chewy I thought it was stale. I guess you have to get it right from the pot when there making it!! I did get excellent service at the meat counter, although I was getting shrimp and salmon which both were fantastic. (super fresh)!!! My last two times I've gotten steak there I wasn't happy and they were very tough!! Any recommendations for a good steak there my New York strips have not been good ones. read more

5 starts for excellent customer service. I bought a watermelon yesterday and when I cut into it, found that it was over-ripe and mushy. Took it back to Hollywood and, without even seeing my receipt, asked if I wanted a replacement or refund. I opted for the replacement and they actually cut a watermelon in half for me (and covered it in plastic wrap) to make sure that the replacement was okay. I've driven past this grocery store a million times and never stopped. On this particular day I decided to give it a shot. Walking in I was taken back to an old school grocer in my hometown, strangely similar. I feel like this is the kind of store where the employees know your name if you shop her often. Perusing the store they have a nice selection of produce, fish and meats. They have a butcher in store which is always bonus points in my book. They had some good specials on crab cakes and they tasted delicious when I made them at home. Prices are comparable to most other store but they have some great weekly specials. They have plenty of organic if that's your fancy as well. I liked that they had baggers at each check out and the employees were friendly as well. I'll have to add this store to the rotation, I like the "hometown" feel compared to a Kroger or Meijer. read more

I must love this place. I'm here almost every day I'm in town and like everyone else its all about the meat counter. Fruits and vegetables are not as good as say Westbourne or Holiday but they are generally cheaper and they are just fine for me. Since Superior is not too far from me, I tend to avoid the seafood bar, which is fair at best. The meat counter and the beer selection are great and getting better. The meat counter isn't overly high end but they do have very nice cuts of meat at really good prices and they sell so much that it is very fresh. They almost always offer what appears to be a ridiculous deal each week. I believe right now they have 1.79 lb chicken breasts. They recently stepped up their beer game. The build your own 6 pack makes me very very happy. Who doesn't love mixing Moose Drool with Anchor Steam and Bells. I agree the other reviews. The meat counter is absolutely fantastic. I've had them cut 2" thick steaks for me without blinking an eye. They'll also get whatever meat products you require. I ordered a deboned leg of lamb. On the appointed day, it was waiting for me. They also make several types of sausage. I'm also a fan of their bakery. You can get a BIG loaf of fresh baked Italian bread for $1.69. But it's hard to be good at everything. Besides the meat counter and the bakery, everything else is just okay. I often find myself going to Westborn to supplement the groceries because the produce section of Hollywood is often lacking. read more

A huge Kroeger just opened around the vorner, but myself and many locals still come here. The Kroeger is so huge it's a chore just to park and get in. Meat counter = FREAKIN FANTASTIC Everything else = Meh Hollywood is overpriced for a normal grocery store. Every time I go in there I buy as little as possible, yet I still end up dropping at least $60. The meat counter is the saving grace, as they always have fresh ground sirloin, fresh ground turkey breast, and lots of other amazing looking options. I wish they would give some kind of rewards card like Kroger does, but I think they're happy making a re-donkulous profit like they are right now. I admit I go here often because it's close to my house, but I would way rather spend my money at Kroger when I have the time to drive out to Birmingham to shop. read more

Now I see that Holiday market did me a favor (driving me away with their shoddy service) .I can't speak to the meat department (I'm vegetarian) but the store is clean, spacious, well stocked, nicely priced, and has a lovely selection. I will perhaps miss the cheese monger at Holiday, but would only revisit that store if I needed a really esoteric type of cheese that only they would carry. This is still my go-to grocery store four years later. Large selection, great prices and amazing meat counter. I continue to stand by my claim that this meat counter over Holiday's any day of the week. And you don't have to risk life, limb or your vehicle to get in the building like you do over at Holiday. I will also add that Hollywood has some amazing specials if you keep an eye out on their sales papers. I do stock up on basics in other stores, but I have found a few occasions where the savings at Hollywood were significantly better than Kroger or Meijer. And the meat prices are equivalent to any bigger grocery store and the quality is so much better. I don't get why you'd buy meat elsewhere. read more

I rarely ever make it over here but last night I was passing by and needed some ingredients for dinner. I was picking up some citrus fruit, herbs and some veggies. First, I'll admit that, their meat counter is always very nicely organized and well showcased, their produce looks mostly appealing but that the prices here are on par with Holiday Market's while the quality is nowhere near the same for what they're charging. I was happy to pay a little extra to avoid driving through downtown Royal Oak but once I got home I found that the asparagus I paid $5 for had tips that were essentially rotten and stinking which made me very sad since they're the best part. Just a tip for you folks...inspect any produce that's tightly wrapped in cellophane and Styrofoam so this doesn't happen to you. Personally I prefer when asparagus is set in a water bath rather than pre-wrapped and drying out on a shelf waiting to be sold. While I was walking around I also found several items that were priced higher than normal so I grabbed what I needed and decided to finish my grocery shopping elsewhere. read more

Well, looks like the others mostly covered it, but Hollywood is pretty much the only place I go for meat (well... Occasionally I get to make it down to Eastern Market)... I rarely touch Meijer meat any more. They have some good prepared foods as well, and decent produce. They do have a few unique grocery items... But in general, it's gonna be 10-25% pricier than meijer. Super fast checkout (only place I know that still has baggers!). read more

Before moving, this used to be the closest grocery store. I have been there once. The building is old and so is the produce. Everything just has a used look to it. I went with someone around my age. Thought it was a little odd that while purchasing a bottle of wine, the cashier carded us both. We didn't get in trouble.
