Jose and his team at Westcoast Waterproofing fixed a balcony at our house. We bought the place about a year ago. One of those not so lovely hidden treasures that some homeowners know too well showed up in the form of a leaking, improperly repaired section of the balcony. Jose came out and explained how the old attempts to fix the balcony actually made the problem worse by going over the top of the problem area with new layers, creating an area for water to collect, absorb, and flow back toward the house! Jose walked me through the process of how his team would repair the balcony by fixing the underlying problem instead just going over the top of it. He explained everything in detail. He answered every question I had. He responded quickly by text when I had a follow-up question. Jose sent me an estimate two days later, which I greatly appreciated. Other deck and balcony specialists were taking more than a week to submit a bid because it was a particularly rainy season. Once Jose's team came out, they worked quickly and diligently, explaining and showing to me what they found underneath the years of shoddy repair work. They showed me how they slightly sloped the balcony floor so water would flow away from the house. They completed the project in a timely manner. They made sure my balcony was sealed tight, replaced a drain, and replaced damaged wood underneath. They had to replace some siding too, which they painted. At first I was very uncomfortable with him coming out so soon because normally it takes weeks for contractors to come out to give you an estimate but I decided to let him come out and I am so glad I did. This is our second time that we used Westcoast for our deck work. We are very happy with the service, from start to finish, and with how great our deck looks. Our deck was showing wear and tear. There were a few areas that were exposed and with the start of the rain, there was leakage into the living room ceiling below. Had a deck leaking. Jose came out and did an estimate. We accepted and they arrived on schedule and did all of the work from the outside of the house (allowed them to come and go as needed). They removed the old coating, replaced dry rotted wood (both on the deck itself as well as a number of pickets in our railing), replaced all of the flashing, and recoated and sealed the deck, and I added in repainting the railing as well (due to the number of pickets with dry rot). The job took a few days longer than originally estimated, but there was a lot more dry rot than we expected and we added in the painting. Overall, I thought they did a great job at a good price and I would hire them again in the future. I have already recommended them to my neighbor. read more

I hired West Coast to resurface a balcony for me. Jose came out and promptly gave me an estimate. He explained the scope of the work needed. The job was completed on time and Jose even accommodated my request for upgraded components. Approximately one year later I began to have some leaks in the same area. Jose quickly came out to evaluate the source of the leak. He worked in conjunction with another contractor to diagnose the reason for the leak. He re-did this area of the balcony just to make sure his work was sound and well sealed, while the other contractor addressed the other potential sources. I usually do not review businesses, however I really wanted to comment on the great job Jose Avala and his team (crew) did on waterproofing our second floor balcony/deck. We had water leakage along the perimeter of the deck flashing and metal posts anchors into our dining room. We had a leak in our balcony deck in the middle of a rainy week in mid December. I was unable to get any contractor to return my call. Jose and his team did a great job in refurbishing my existing 30 year old Dex-O-Tex stairwells and balconies at my Huntington Beach triplex.
