    The worst tee boxes
    Nicholas V.

Proshop staff is great but hotel management refuses to invest in the course and knows nothing about golf. These are the worst tee boxes in LA and the mats are disgusting. Pre covid, the previous team had a sand box for divots on every tee box, they rotated tees and maintained decent greens. Now they just over water (see photo) and under maintain while raising rates. This par 3 could be so much better under different management and some investment in their product.

Westdrift was a great place for a quick Par 3, 9 hole round. Cost for a round was $30. Book in advance. No carts, just walking. Parking lot is behind the hotel. You enter through a small street. Dress code was not really enforced, people were in tank tops. Views were nice. The walking was not terrible, some hills. Course was spread out nicely. Took roughly 2 hours to finish.

While the sprawling greens were beautiful and the land had many small hills that covered the whole 9 holes, it was still a difficult par3 for me as a beginner of 1 year (with lessons). The start of the hole 1 was pretty much a small square landing for the tee off area, which was then surrounded by a cute, small lake complete with flying geese and ducks frequenting that morning's golf game. The first hole was the hardest, as trying to get past the lake shot was tricky. The next few shots were inviting because of the pleasantness of the green landscaping and architectural design of the par3. Some holes were uphill, some went downhill, it was very nice. Much akin to a walk in the park. I would def try westdrift however, it is a bit pricey and I got my tee time discounted to a cool $30 total for one player. That said, make it a special day or the very last of the few challenging par3's in or around LA. The view to eat was excellent overlooking the golf course. The weather of the beach only accentuates the lush, greens. Very inviting. The only negative light I must address is that there was a lot of dog poop around the tee off boxes, esp in the middle and the 9th hole had so much flies I was a bit disgusted by the stench and the amount of unpicked up dog poop on the tee off mats. I nearly fainted at the 9th hole mat.

    Hole #8 in October 2020.

What used to be the best kept secret in LA, is now worse than a public muni course. In 2019, I played here at least 4 times a month. The grounds crew kept this place in tip top shape and you played on carpets. I played in October 2020 and the tee boxes are destroyed (every hole, hitting off dirt), the greens are full of divots and randomly we saw two dead animals on the course (squirrel and raccoon). We heard the hotel is letting people play soccer golf and it shows, this is no longer a great golf course. Even though I have the membership I hate to say I won't be back for awhile, hopefully they fix it soon! I would give it 1 star, but Scott is great and the customer service is always amazing so giving it 2 stars.

    Tee box. Horrible.

Similar to other reviews, I've had the membership card at west drift for two years. I will not be renewing next year. I've never seen a place go downhill quite like this in such a short period of time. The staff is still the same great group but the management seems to be entirely different. Kids are allowed to play soccer on the greens. Imagine teeing off waiting for kids to clear the green with a soccer ball. I'm fine with soccer golf if the place is a real mess, but this place used to be incredible. It's become unrecognizable. It's a real shame, and overpriced for what it is now. Disappointing to say the least.

    Dog friendly
    Brit A.

Came here to golf on a Saturday. It was super easy to get a tee time online. The best thing about this course us that it's dog friendly! So we brought our dog with us and he loved it. This is a 9 hole course and is a 3 par so the holes aren't very long. They could improve on watering the grass a little bit more and cleaning up all of the geese poop. Other than that, its a fun course so amateur golfers. They have a shop with food and alcohol. Every hole has a ball cleaner station and a trashcan. The course is really pretty with palm trees and 2 ponds. Parking is easy as the lot is free but the course is a little difficult to find. It costs about $30/person. There is also a sitting area at the beginning of the course and a putting green.

Fast food for premium price. Go to in and out and save yourself some money and get superior food. Beer was flat as well. Never coming back.

The golf instructors here are very direct, easy to understand and quick to provide solutions and tips to improve your game. Erica at the front desk is friendly and passionate about golf. She knows the ins and out of the simulator equipment and super helpful to guide you through to have the best experience possible. They have huge comfy couches in the check in lobby area and also a putter to practice on with auto return of the ball. They have 5 bays here and you can do a membership to book your times. Customize your simulator experience to calculate distances, play mini games, compete locally or globally, play from courses around the world without having to travel or wait around. All the tech here is top of the line, no lag, no glitch or waiting. It loads fast and responsive. Lots of data being shown - angle of attack, club face, swing speed, ball speed and the list goes on. You can even do instant replays and so much more custom options. Lots of chairs for friends to watch and relax. There is a lot of natural light here so it makes it bright and airy but I would prefer using the bay's that are further away from the windows so the screen looks more vivid.

Just to be 100% clear, this review is for the Golf Tec Studio located inside the El Segundo…read morelocation of Golfsmith. I cannot say enough about Golf Tec, the coaches, and the mission of this business. Really, I know I am paying for this service, but all they want to do is help me enjoy golf, make me better at the game, and to completely (with technology and good coaching) help me to understand the mechanics of golf in relation to MY swing, MY body, and MY intended skill level. I enrolled in the Summer of 2015, and bought a year-long set of lessons, a custom club-fitting, 4 video (on course) lessons, and all the indoor range balls I could hit. It was not cheap. But when you think about it...if I am a 95 average golfer and I wish to be an 80-82 average golfer, I need to shave roughly 15 strokes a round off my game, and no manner of lucky putting, "decent" tee shots, or really lucky bounces will get me there. Only professional instruction, lessons geared to my learning style and physics, and practice will help do that. Since July I have lowered my average by 5-6 strokes. That's almost half the way there in 4.5 months of lessons. I took advantage of the club fitting to get new irons that are customized to my height, my grip, and my swing style (speed)...and DAMN...instant returns. My new clubs help my confidence level, I hit them straighter and longer, and they only build my trust level for this coaching experience. When I signed up, I drew Matt Newby as my coach...as fate would have it. He's a great guy, an avid hockey fan (like me), super personable, very passionate about golf, and he really understands me as a person (my hang ups on the course, my competitive nature, and my athletic physiology). Matt has been paramount in this improvement process and I cannot say enough about him and his teachings. The lessons are fun, and informative. I get instant (and constant) video feedback on the hi-tech monitors that record everything from my body positioning, swing speed, club orientation to the ball, etc...and we get HD video feedback saved to my own personal Golf Tec on-line lesson bank. I can re watch lessons at any time, and go over my sessions and homework on my iphone app or my PC. I can even schedule my own practices at any location, or communicate with my coach when needed. This is amazing in every way, and WORTH EVERY PENNY. You're only going to get better at something with practice, good teachings, a good attitude, and by committing yourself to it. I want to be a better golfer (I'm not old yet, but I know my days of competitive ice hockey are coming to a close). I want to have golf as a recreational sport for many years and I wish to enjoy it thru being decent at it, and doing my best. Matt is helping me through his teaching, GolfTec is helping me through the myriad of tools, and I am helping myself by committing to it. This is TRULY one of the best choices I have ever made.

My assigned trainer (Brian) left the company. I had taken 22 lessons out of a prepaid 40. There was…read morean option to pay a maintenance fee to keep my lessons beyond the end of the 1 year contract. The trainer assured that since he is leaving he will initiate the suspension so there would be no fee and the Director of Instruction would be assigned to me to continue services. Months go by and I reach out. The Director (Josh) informed me that the suspension ended after 60 days (this was never mentioned to me and mind you - no one reached out as promised) and that I had "abandoned" 18 lessons. I shared my communications with Brian to Josh who then said we could "work something out" but then all communications drop off again. I reach out a few more times, at some point asking for the arbitration agreement (they refused to provide paperwork that has contract terms) and have since ghosted me.

Reading the reviews with time and waiting we didn't have to deal wait that as the first group out…read more For the money you kinda expect a better experience and a bit of a nicer pro shop, food, etc. No direction was given it was check in and see you later. The course is very challenging, narrow, long, and unforgiving out of bounds. The greens were in good shape and very fast. To be honest with a decent amount of good rain you would think the course would be dialed, but to be honest it was kind of rough. Tons on divot marks that never grew back, patchy approach areas, and just ok tee boxes. As with many other posters for the same price go to Moorpark or Rustic.

I played here yesterday, and I just had to come back here to Yelp to set the record straight,…read morebecause the current 2.5 star rating just doesn't feel like a fair representation of what this course truly has to offer. I've never played here before, but GolfNow was offering a nice discount, so I decided to take a chance on it despite the poor reviews and low star rating, and I was pleasantly surprised by how far it exceeded my very low expectations. Here's what you can expect if you decide to play here: Pre-Round: - Quality warm-up/practice areas. At the range you're hitting decent quality balls, off real grass (not mats) out into a lush grassy range with nicely visible yardage targets. - Putting practice is on a tight, fast green that's well maintained. Only critique here was there weren't many holes to aim to... I counted maybe 4-5 total, which is not much. - Clubhouse was a lovely Spanish style building, with clean bathrooms, nice pro shop with friendly staff, and a cafe/food window set next to a nice outdoor patio eating area. The Golf: - Walking is not permitted (for pacing reasons, I assume) but the electric golf carts are HIGH-QUALITY, not beat up, cheap public course shame trains. They each have full color screens with GPS enabled course maps, providing you with hole layouts and yardages. They are stocked with complimentary bottled water, towels, and tees. Before you even swing a club, this feels like a premium experience. - The course conditions were beautiful. They're not perfect... you're not playing Augusta National here, but it was well above average for a public course. Tee boxes were level, green, weed free and well maintained. If you're used to playing public courses where you have to dance a two-step around the tee box for 2 minutes trying to find a level spot to hit from, you'll feel spoiled by the beautiful tee boxes. -Fairways are tight, a bit hard (you're in desert terrain) and very green. Didn't see a lot of dead grass out there, but then again it did rain recently. -The first cut rough is pretty well maintained, with some weeds around the edges, but for the most part very playable. -Bunkers has a few large rocks in them here and there, but were pretty fluffy and soft for the most part. One bunker I landed in was so soft, my ball plugged into the sand a good inch or two. -The course design is really interesting and unique, and WILL BE A CHALLENGE for most weekend golfers. You need to be accurate off the tees and have a decent approach game. If not, bring a lot of balls because the desert OB areas are cruel and will mercilessly collect your entire last order of golf balls off Amazon. - The pace of play was actually great. We never felt rushed and never felt like we waited more than a few minutes for the group ahead to finish. We played on Sunday, teeing off just before noon, so you'd expect it to be busy, but it was pleasantly un-crowded. -I appreciated the little details that this course has paid attention to, like areas around the tee boxes and beside cart paths that often have beautiful hard-scape features, like rocks or pavers, which is a classy touch. Other on-course amenities: - Ball washers were regularly placed throughout the course - At least one set of bathrooms was out on the course (thank you very much). - Beverage carts came around at least twice to check on us and offer us food during the round... another premium that you don't get on cheap public courses. One STRANGE experience: We finished our round around 4:30PM and when we rolled in toward the clubhouse, the place was an absolute ghost town. Not a soul was in sight. Pro shops was dark, locked up and closed. Food service window was closed, security cage pulled over the window. There were no human beings anywhere when I pulled my cart up to the cart return--- just felt odd that nobody was around. Other than that, Angeles National served up a great day of quality golf with premium amenities. It's not cheap, but it's also not as expensive as you might expect for a high quality course. With our GolfNow "HotDeal" it was around $120 and I consider it a steal at that price. If that price tag is a stretch, then reward yourself with a round here once in a while and enjoy the incredible mountain views, picturesque desert, and course conditions that far exceed expectations of a public course.
