My A/C wasn't working. Western was able to get a guy out within a week, which is pretty good for the middle of the summer. Fortunately for everyone it was an easy repair and I had cold air coming out if my vents again. My only complaint is the lack of updates- you get a 3-hour arrival window but not so much as a 'your technician is on the way' text or email to keep you updated. I am a big fan of of Western Heating and Cooling and it is the only company I call when I am in need of HVAC services. I initially found them with a Groupon and was impressed. They fixed an aging air conditioner and fairly recently replaced my gas furnace and air conditioner. It was 29 degrees the day of service and I offered to postpone the service. They came anyway. They came a year later to do a courtesy check on the furnace and decided to wait for the check on the air conditioner when it would be more obvious that it was working as it should. Before they installed the new equipment I had asked if they would install an automatic cutoff device on the gas in case of an earthquake. They said they don't usually do that and I was okay with that. Then they called and said they had found the device and would be happy to install it. Recently I noticed that I had a lot of cold air coming in the cabinet above the stove microwave. I had had my roof replaced by Evergreen Renovations and Roofing and suspected that they hadn't hooked up the ducting and vent correctly. I had called the roofer and was told it wasn't their responsibility to hook it up but they would do it as a courtesy if the ducting was flexible. Western Heating and Cooling shared my thought that if you unhook somethinbg, you should reattach it. I didn't know who to call but I asked Western Heating and Cooling if they could check it out. While the roofer showed me a photo of a rigid ducting, the HVAC people showed me a photo of the ducting with a large hole in it. Once again, the weather wasn't ideal for them coming out. It was supposed to get to 102 degrees and I was concerned about their safety in my attic. They still came out, fixed the problem and even did some nice work inside the house around the duct in the cabinet above the microwave. I was thrilled. I asked if that job was something they would usually do and was told that, no, it wasn't. but they would do what need to be done to help me. They are polite and thoughtful about my property and keep me updated as to when they are going to arrive and, unless, there is a problem on the road, they have been prompt. I have recommended Western Heating and Cooling to many people and would highly recommend it to anyone needing their services. read more

Our Furnace started blowing clod air on New Years Eve. We contacted Western Heating & Cooling and even though it was late they came out to diagnose & fix the furnace. Unfortunately the part that went bad was one that had to be ordered being that the furnace was 20 years old so the technician left us with some portable heaters till the part could be ordered. Western Heating & Cooling was very proactive and informed us the part was obsolete but could be ordered in a kit that had a bunch of parts we didn't need and was very expensive. After considerable though we thought it best to replace the unit with a new one. Western heating came out the 1st part of the next week and installed the new furnace along with a new A/C unit (as it was the same age). I can't stand companies that are trying to get over. I purchased a home during the inspection I was told that the furnace was installed incorrectly. Specifically "The evaporator is installed on the return side of the gas furnace and is supposed to be installed on the supply side" This company would not provide a quote at ALL. They wanted to come out charge me $105.00 to tell me what I already know and then charge to repair it. Which is fine, however give me a price on what it would cost to fix it so I can determine whether or not I want to even pay the $105 for you to come out and tell me what I already know. TERRIBLE customer service. I paid them to service my heater and replace the filter. 2 months and a week later NW gas told me I need to clean and replace the filter again as soon as possible. I called and talked to the owner she refused to fix the problem and wouldn't do a refund. Then had the audacity to try to sell the service again! She also said it was recommended to clean and replace the filter 3-6months. I called around and a competitor said they have a 1 year guarantee. $109 vs $149. I am upset to pay for the service a second time and plan on contacting Better Business Bureau. They also tried to upsell me an ignitor switch replacement and I was told it wasn't necessary from the competitor. The guy also said it was extremely filthy and surprised some days we were getting any heat at all. read more

Really disappointed in this company. I called and scheduled an appointment t to try to get my oil furnace up and running. I asked specifically ASKED if they work on older units. Yes yes they do. They sent a fellow out, he puttered about and told us he needed to order a new igniter. Fine great no problem. I wait 5 days in a cold house, no update, no return phone calls, nothing. When I finally got ahold of someone I was told that they refuse to work on an old furnaces and I will have to replace it. Okay. How much? I don't know. A new one cost between 6 and 8 grand. WTF? I called another company that works on oil furnaces, again I ASKED if they can work on old oil furnaces. A fellow came out same day to look at mine. Oh golly, a wire is disconnected from the igniter.... oh look he got my furnace up and running. Yes, my furnace is old, yes you probably should replace the blower, yes we have refurbished blowers and new blowers ... oh it won't be more than $1,000, including the cost to clean the furnace and vents in the house. Hey Western, here is an idea if you don't know how to work on older, hell ancient oil furnaces just freaking say so. Don't waste my time or yours. I certainly don't need the grief worry or heartache of being told it will be several thousand dollars to fix something. Thanks for nothing. read more

I recommend that you do not use this company. They are rude and unprofessional. We had an issue where we had a planned service window and no one showed up. We did not receive a call and I had to call them when they were already 20 minutes past the window. They told me it would be another 20 minutes, and when I called back 40 minutes later, they DID NOT apologize and told me the guy was still at least 30 minutes away. I understand that things happen, but a good business calls to keep you apprised of the situation. When the service technician finally showed up he was rude to us and had no explanation for why he was late (we were the first call of the day). Why do my major appliances only break on holidays? New Years Day and the furnace blows cold air. Did some investigating and figured it must be the igniter, which is beyond my skill level. Called several places, including the one that installed the furnace, and either no answer, not until tomorrow, or no time. Called Western and Darcy said, "Let me see if I can squeeze you in. I'll call back in 10 minutes." She did indeed call back and scheduled an appointment window for 1 to 3 PM. At 1 PM a friendly and unassuming fellow arrives. "I'm not out much in the field anymore, but I wanted to give the other guys a break to be with their families today." OK, I appreciate his honesty. He takes the covers off, looks around, probes and tests, spends some time looking over the schematics and installers manuals which fortunately I still have for my 6-year old furnace, then says that indeed it is the igniter. Makes a phone call to be sure of his diagnosis and that he's got the right part in the truck. Tells me what its going to cost (which was reasonable) and asks if I want it done. Well of course, its cold outside, but still, how pleasant! When he's done and I'm writing a check, we chat a bit. He takes the time to explain how and why the igniter broke, and why one of the symptoms I thought was odd still pointed to the igniter. He also asked if I had noticed the odd noise the fan makes when it quits, pointing out that it might be on its way out of this world, but doesn't make a play to have it replaced immediately. He says again that he's not out in the field much anymore and was trying to give the other guys a break today. Seems like its almost an apology for how long it took him. "Is this your company?" I ask. "I'm one of the owners," he replies. Ah, I get it. He's working on New Years Day so one of his employees can have the day off with his family. Now I'm really impressed. But wait, there's more. I call Darcy to get his name. He's Doug, a prince, a real mensch. And Darcy tells me he's not "one of the owners." He is THE owner. Wow. When is the last time you met somebody like that? I'm guessing "squeezing me in" meant that he didn't go home to HIS family at 1:00 so that my family could be warm, as well as keeping one of his employees home with their family. Looking at my caller-ID, it is also apparent that he spent some money on phone technology so that Darcy could work from home on days like today. I had western heating and cooling work on both my old house and on my new one. My new house had the heat pump and furnace unit both die in the first winter that I lived in it. They were circa 1981 and apparently quite good for that period of time, but besides being dead, they needed to get replaced anyways for energy efficiency. I mean the old furnace needed 3 circuits of 20 amps each. Sheesh. Western heating and cooling ordered all the parts, installed them all, and came back to tune the system up. They worked to get me both tax credits a cash back from the govt, a rebate from the manufacturer, and a discount from them. I was very happy with the work and the people. They really made you feel comfortable which is important since they have to be in the house for a few hours to do all the install. I would and have recommended them to my friends! read more

This company is the best. I installed a new programmable thermostat on an old system. It worked. Then it did not work, we discovered the day after thanksgiving, the coldest day of the year in a freezing cold front. We got out the long johns and the electric heater figuring we would not get anyone to come out until monday or tuesday. Western came out within the hour. Though they worked 2 hours, they only charged us for the service call, saving us about $100! Another firm estimated it would cost $250, rather than the $98 we paid Western. I changed the thermostat and my furnace was not running. I looked up furnace repair on yelp apps and I found this company offering a yelp coupon discount. So I called and scheduled appointment. I got a phone call saying the technician could come sooner. So I met the technician and he immediately found out what the problem was, I had a blown fuse due to a short from installing the new thermostat. He replaced the fuse and a brand new filter and I used the $70 for $100 yelp coupon and saved me $30 got a professional job well done. I would use this company for my future furnace needs. Extremely horrific customer service. Did more damage to our furnace ( 4 years old ) and left with it not working on a 44 degree night. Did nothing but blame us. terrible company New Update: My 78 year old mother had another Heating Company come out yesterday after a night in the cold thanks to Western heating. It was discovered that the tech from Western Heating switched out system to "HEAT PUMP" which shut down the furnace. He was extremely inexperienced and he didn't know how to fix what he had broken so he just left. The new company put it back to furnace and fixed the original zoning problem. He did all this after 6PM for $85 and during this whole time Western Heating continues to deny, deflect and somehow blame my 78 year old mom for their Tech's lack of experience even after I shared this information with them last night. Western recently came out to fix our furnace. They were able to come out the same day we called in, assessed the situation and came back the next day with the required part. The tech who came out seemed quite knowledgeable about his trade and he was seemingly honest about life expectancy and options. We were able to apply the yelp coupon to the parts needed, which was generous on the part of the company (as we did not buy the coupon 24 hours in advance). One star off simply because a wire was placed upside down, resulting in partial functioning of the unit for a night until we figured it out. Western was very accommodating and had the tech back out the same day we called. If I could, it would be half a star. Most impressive- this company seemed willing to bend over backwards to get people to our house at a time convenient for our work schedules. I have two thermostats and the upstairs was not getting any heat. I replace the thermostat with a NEST and still no luck. I called another company on the sticker of my furnace but and I'm still waiting for the scheduler to call. I then called Western due to great Yelp reviews and got a same day appointment in the afternoon 12-4p. Next thing I know, Russ came to my door at 11:50am which is unbelievable. On top of it Russ was very professional and informative on all things heating. He looked at my setup and found it to be weird but he kept at it and tracking the issue and found out I actually have two furnaces! I had no idea and 5 mins later the heat was on and everything worked. He also changed my filter while he was up there. Awesome service and great experience. I had gotten an Amazon Local coupon for a tune up of our heat pump. The very nice technician who came out, with another fellow he was training, was on time and seemed knowledgeable. Having said that, the tune up they did was NOT very complete. They did not do many of the items on the tune-up list, particularly the cleaning of the coils inside or outside, and checking the defrost function. read more

WARNING THIS COMPANY USES A BAIT AND SWITCH COUPON DEAL. I purchased a discount coupon redeemable for either an air conditioning or a furnace tune up. When I called about redeeming the coupon to have my air conditioning serviced the woman asked what was wrong. I told her that the air conditioning unit seemed to be operating normally but I was concerned that it might not be operating efficiently and could possibly need some coolant. She said that the person they send out on the initial service call cannot add coolant.
