The lady that was in here was especially nice, warm, and welcoming, she told me she baked the donuts for the day and what a job she did! I ordered two custard filled chocolate donuts and you can tell how experienced she is in just the structure and consistency of the donut. Growing up with my mom as a professional baker, I grew picky to desserts, especially, only wanting the finest and well made desserts. This $1 donut reminds me a lot of my childhood, the donuts my mom would make, the custard she'd sneak for me from the bakery. Beautiful. I'll take a dozen more. If Westernco was featured in a cartoon I imagine this would be a place that Homer Simpson would visit. It's a local donut shop and simplicity at its finest. No merch to sell in fancy wired bins or wicker baskets. The times I've been here I've never seen a handlebar mustached hipster order a ham and cheese croissant; never seen a yoga pants soccer mom order apple fritters. Most likely you'll see those types of clientele at the Landing Top Pot. Westernco just offers good old fashion donuts and beverages. I'm sure this place hasn't changed in decades. It's nostalgic. No matter how much is changing around them they've managed to keep costs low. I'm guessing that's the appeal and why they have a constant flow of loyal locals stopping by. read more

Ayeeeee it's National Donut Day! Who would I be NOT to get some donuts?! I tried to stop by Happy Donuts in Kent and was greeted by a "sorry, we sold out," sign. So, I took to Yelp and decided to try WesternCo on my way to Bellevue. We have a WesternCo in Kent as well, but I swear I've never seen it open so I wasn't sure what to expect. It's fairly easy to spot and has ideal parking. WesternCo is definitely kind of hole-in-the-wall, but man, they deliver! There wasn't much of a selection since I showed up at noon on NDD. I chose a dozen, and the woman (very nice lady) discounted the price by $2 because she felt bad that there wasn't that big of a selection. Works for me! All of the chocolate donuts taste the same, I'm assuming. They're very good, but maple bars are always my first choice. I got the last one! It was so good and had these crispy edges mmmmm. Crullers are perfectly eggy and airy, hard to explain but easily the best cruller either of us has ever had. Went here on the way to a meet up in Renton. Really glad I did since I discovered that they have jalapeño ham and cheese croissants. Service was great and dang was that croissant good. Not sure if it was cause I haven't found one since moving to Seattle or it was that good. Nice amount of meat and cheese, they don't skimp like other places, in Seattle. In addition they had jalapeños as an option and they had a good amount of heat. Nice Smokey taste, with enough burn to bring a sweat. Exactly how it should be. This donuts are fresh. The flavor of the lemon was very bright, maybe not made in shop. The gam and cheese was inedible; it was not heated, but the cheese was liquidish and tasted badly. I made a mistake of getting a sweet donut with savory ingredients. It was not a croissant, but a donut. Oops. The chocolate with vanilla filling was bland. The best thing was the good old standard apple fritter with was crunchy outside with a tiny bit of apples. I don't need to do this experience again. Service was perfect! read more

After months of wanting to try the place, I finally did. How I wish I could give more stars, but how I cannot due to the quality of the doughnuts. I am certain that the fresh doughnuts are amazing, but the doughnuts I had tasted like they had been out for more than a day. Let me talk about the good, first. The maple bar was excellent - ratio wise. I don't like having copious amounts of icing on the top; they do a thin layer which pairs perfectly with their airy doughnut. I enjoyed every bite of the top half. Yes.. the top half... my first large bite was very good, but something felt off about the dough. I flipped it over and saw specks of, what I assume to be, mold. Hence why I only ate the top. But, it was a good top! Like, a really good top. Wanting to treat myself (since I did go on a long stroll), I also had a chocolate doughnut with chocolate icing and coconut flakes. I checked the underside, and lo, there were some concerning discolored spots that did not look like they were supposed to exist. I split the doughnut in half and ate the top. Passable. The icing didn't taste as good as I hoped - chocolate frosting from the store would have been better. But, the worst was the cake part. Curiosity made me eat the questionable bottom and my mouth was filled with a sour taste. I've never eaten bread that went bad. This was a bad first experience. (Not that any experience eating something gone bad would ever be good..) Heavily disappointed. The lady at the counter was nice about me being short on change and let me get away with $2 for the doughnuts, but really, I wish the doughnuts could have been fresh.. really wanted to be leaving an awesome review. This was my first alternative to Chucks donuts. I can say that Western donuts was at least open with donuts for sale. They had a very large variety and fast service. They offer coffee and other beverages as well. I think it's a decent place to come and get some donuts and a coffee or a drink before work or at lunch time. The interior is moderately decent. And for a neighborhood donut shop and has everything you would need. I picked up half a dozen around 12 noon and without heating them up they were ok. Probably best to go to any donut place as early as possible in the morning to get the freshest donuts. But overall I would say it's worth giving it a try. read more

Haven't really tried this place because everytime we stop by there's always something happening. Once we came by, the baker was sick. The next, they were closed even though the sign says OPEN. Third one (which is not their fault, obviously) a family emergency. My husband grew up in Renton and had been raving about this place but I can't even agree because of all the luck we're having everytime we drop by. Hopefully I get to try them one day. read more

Donuts were good, however coming to WA from CA I think more than 14$ for a DZ is expensive. This is probably the typical CA donut shop. I do not see that trend here in WA. Stopped in early this morning to pick up a dozen doughnuts for a business constituent. Of course I had to sneak in a Maple Bar for myself, and I don't regret a bit. The doughnuts were fresh and delicately arranged in the display case. For someone with difficult mobility, it may be hard to scope the straggling flavors on the bottom shelf, but most have signs in front. It seem as though the Blueberry Cake doughnut is the most popular here.
