We used Westhill in 2015 to do a remodel of two bathrooms, a bonus room above the garage, the kitchen & family room and a half bath downstairs. This was a substantial project and they and their subcontractors delivered an excellent result - I love how the house looks and they did quality work. This summer, we had a leak through the family room ceiling from one of the bathrooms above - it was almost four years after the remodel and I initially called a plumber as it appeared a loose shower head might have caused the leak. When it was clear the problem was more involved, I contacted Westhill's Production Manager with a "Remember me?" email. I expected to have this be a paid service, given the length of time that had passed, but Westhill treated this as part of their warranty - they stand behind their work. It took a little while to diagnose the problem, test that the fix really did work and then touch everything up so you couldn't tell repairs had been done. They have been so responsive and helpful that it's clear why they deserve their reputation as a quality remodeling company. read more

We hired Westhill in February 2014 to remodel and expand our 1979 split-level into a modern home. This work involved pulling two bedrooms about 10 feet over the garage, adding 12 feet to the south wall providing a 3rd car garage and master bedroom above, remodeling the entire kitchen, completely re-designing the floor plan upstairs, expanding the entryway, and changing the roofline. We knew Westhill had a good reputation and lots of experience. We didn't mind paying them $30,000+ in oversight fees to ensure things went very smoothly and would be problem free for my wife and I. Sadly, we were let down. In summary, we spent many thousands of dollars extra for project management and oversight that never occurred. We had to inspect their work and find mistakes nearly every day. This took time, effort, and haggling over a year to resolve. Westhill would often just find the cheapest subcontractor they could find in the phonebook and ask them to show up at our house. Here are some of the events as objectively as we can present them. Yelp won't even let me fit all of Westhill's mistakes on here, I had dozens more to list. - Initial contacts with their sales team went great. Our budget was $250,000 for a completed house. They promised us an accuracy of +/-10% on their bid. In the end, we spent much more than and were left with a framed house and bare studs inside. - Initial architectural designs were rushed off to start the permitting process, but the design was later finalized without consulting with us. We had to spend over a thousand more dollars to finalize the design and have new plans created. - Westhill was unfamiliar with the permitting process. A critical area review was triggered and delayed permitting by over a month. Westhill failed to follow up with the County to understand why. My wife had to take the lead and work with the County to clear the review. The un-necessary inspection still cost us an extra $500. - The Fire Marshall required sprinklers to be installed. We relied on Westhill to ask the County why. Westhill failed to understand the reasoning and resolve the issue, forcing us to spend an extra $1,200 on an architectural scaled sketch of our road and entry to the house (Westhill's solution). My wife had to take the lead once again from Westhill and visit the County office. The only thing that triggered the sprinkler was that the turn-around in our driveway wasn't included on the site plans. My wife sketched it in on-site and the sprinkler requirement was immediately waived. - We provided detailed dimensions of our new kitchen appliances, yet the pantry installed was too shallow for the depth of the fridge. Westhill asked us to eat half the cost, but eventually replaced it free of charge. - We paid $1,500 for "tarp management" but heavy rains during the summer flooded not only the new construction, but our existing house and drywall as well. We had a waterfall going through our main electrical panel. I had to work with framers to tarp the house as Westhill was not present. We spent many nights climbing up on our roof in soaked PJs to reposition and secure tarps. - The HVAC sub made so many errors that we pointed out to Westhill. They opted to ignore us so we had to consult with an independent company that recommended $2,000 in repairs to fix their work. After 6 months of negotiating, Westhill agreed to hire our selected HVAC company to fix the issues at their expense. - Gasline work was done without a permit in place. Westhill didn't know to pull one and didn't even know that the Dept of Health provided these and not L&I. PSE refused to hook up our gas service due to no permit. The first permit inspection failed due to no grounding on the pipes. I personally had to install the ground for them as Westhill refused to do it even though we hired them to relocate our gas meter. - We asked for examples of houses that their siders had done. Westhill refused to provide us with addresses. Other siding companies that we interviewed were happy to do so. - The 2nd lead that Westhill assigned to us called in sick repeatedly and then just stopped showing up. Unfortunately, one of the days was the day of our slab pour. I had to spend the whole day home from work directing the employees that showed up what to do. If I wasn't there to ensure our code requirements were met, major shortcuts would have been taken. They had to rush off that morning to obtain the proper fill and re-mesh... they were planning to pour without it to boost their profits. I wish I could say something positive about Westhill, but I can't. They lack knowledge, provide no oversight or quality checks, and found no issues on their own, we had to point out ALL mistakes. It is truly as if they just flipped through the yellowpages for the next sub and hired the cheapest they could find while billing us beyond the premium level. Avoid this company at all costs. read more

This company was recommended by my insurance company to contract a roofing company. I went this route thinking that it would make the process smoother. What a big mistake. Westhill provided a list of roofing companies and I chose WD Contractors. Another mistake. This company is predatory company and has an "F" rating on BBB. The worker that initially came out to assess the roof damage provided an estimate of $53k for a 1500sqft home. That was excessive and my insurance company denied it. After a couple of weeks of going back and forth with the company my insurance company finally received a reasonable estimate. When I tried to get an appointment to get the work completed that was another challenge. They don't answer or respond whcih is consistent to the reviews for this company. This delay caused the close of my escrow to be delayed by 2 weeks. I was at risk of losing my buyers for my house and still no response. After weeks of frustration dealing with these companies I decided to not do any business with them. I was then contacted by the Customer Experience Manager who asked how could he make this right. I requested that I be compensated for the loss of income due to the delay in my escrow closing. He requested that I provide documentation for the loss of income, which I did, however it was not sufficient to him. So once again I have wasted my time dealing with this company and in the end they did not make this right with me. Additionally, they are still doing business with WD Contractors. These guys are awesome. My wife and I embarked on what we knew would be a very difficult remodel on our beach cabin. We had neighbor issues, land use issues, health district issues, and many trips to the building/planning department. But the folks at Westhill guided us through the whole process and we now have a gem of a cabin on Puget Sound. There recommendations for trim, flooring, ceilings, fixtures all worked out great. We asked them to make our cabin look "better than that one, but not as dramatic as this one" and they delivered. We used Westhill for two projects on our house. The first one was rather small and they came in on budget - $1000 - and on time. On the second project, they bid to do all the work for $2500-5000. We had other bids for a little less but went with Westhill because we liked their proposed approach to the project. At the end of the one week project, after talking every day, they handed us a bill for $18,000. After requesting receipts for everything we found that, among other things, they charged us $50/hr to have their own truck sitting in front of our house every day plus a 30% mark up on it! We spent weeks in negotiations and finally settled for much less than $18K but much more than $5K. If you work with Westhill get something signed saying that they'll eat the cost if they go over. read more

If i could have given a sixth star i would have. Westhill was the best contractor I've worked with, period. What made them so good? They are accurate with their estimates, they are on time with their projects and they are great people to deal with. In addition to that, they are fantastic with kids. My kids were always outside asking them questions, seeing if they could hold tools, you know doing what kids do. They delivered two rounds of gifts to my kids, one was a Westhill play hard hat and some other goodies and the second around was gifts for all FOUR kids after we recently had the fourth child. Water damage from the condo above left me traumatized and catatonic, enter Westhill Restoration Inc.They tore out the old and put in the new. Damage affected guest bath, laundry room, floors, coat closet, ceiling and more. As quick as Westhill was, the process was still long and arduous. Washer and dryer in building hallway, coats under one set of stairs, laundry stuff under another. Oy. Every step of the way their people did what they said they were going to do when they said they would do it. The few times we weren't communicating effectively, as is wont to happen on such a big project, they came in and resolved quickly. I never felt like I was being shoehorned in-between projects. They were all Rock Stars and treated me like one. And I'll name names. Zak, Chris, Justin, Bridgitte, Chuck, Shaka (as in Zulu) and anyone else I came in contact with. Thousands of $$$ later, I could not be happier (who knew?). The insurance company promised to 'make me whole' and Westhill delivered that promise. I loved the way Westhill treated us. They knew that we had small children that would be affected during the renovation. Therefore they made sure to get the job done as quickly as possible. Westhill also made sure to keep us up to date with everything that was going on with our project as well as making sure that every subcontractor that came to our house treated us and our house with respect. read more

We were quoted a price and timeline of one month. The job and design ideas were excellent. They cleaned up every night. We were introduced to each person that worked on the job. Do NOT hire this company!!! Their communication is horrible. I dealt with three different people at the company. All three people stopped answering e-mails and returning my calls during the time they were working at my house. They were rude and very unprofessional. When they were 'finished' with the job - I still had a list of things wrong with my house: that was their workers' mistakes! Yet still, they didn't fix the problems. Less than 2 months later, they were back in my house, because they had set the toilet in wrong which caused thousands of dollars in additional damage! When I contacted the company about the problem, they initially blamed the flooring company and wouldn't take responsibility! I had to fight to get them to fix their own mistakes! I had a severe house fire Sept 2012. I hired Westhill to gut & rebuild my home. They rebuilt my home with no permits or inspections. Huge NO NO!!! Shame on you Westhill. 0 stars While having windows replaced on my house by Intermountain Glass (highly recommended), water damage was found on the outside of my house. The window company took the time to call everyone they knew to find a company to come as soon as possible to do the repair. They landed on Westhill who said they could get started "right away". They sent someone that day to have a look and she said she'd get me a bid so we could get started ASAP. I called that same day and the next to get the bid and was treated like I had no business asking for it so soon and I needed to wait a day or 2. I should have called someone else at this point but I was dumb enough to trust these people BIG MISTAKE! When I did get the bid, it seemed reasonable so I said they could go ahead. I knew at that time that there might be some additional charges based on what they might find when they got going on the project. 10 days later, when they were finally due to arrive to start the work, 3 people showed up at my house and spent two hours talking about the job & arguing with each other. The person who would be doing the job kept telling the girl writing the quote that he didn't think it would be so bad...he didn't think he'd have to take out much drywall, wouldn't have to remove any flooring etc. Bid girl kept changing everything he said and adding more & more to the quote. Stupid mistake #2, I paid in advance and was informed that, again, they would come back to start work. This is now 11 days since the first visit, their version of "right away". I got a call at 4pm that day that they were cancelling, same thing again the next day. They finally arrived 3 days later. The guy was at my house a couple hours, then about 3/4 day the next day. Didn't show up again for a week. Meanwhile, the window guys had to come back to remove a huge atrium skywall so Westhill could continue repairs. Westhill changed the date on the window guys twice, then tried to tell me it was the window company's fault. Thank goodness the window guys showed up when they did and took the time to cover the gaping hole in my house....apparently Westhill thought a little tarp would be fine. Long story long, I got completely screwed financially. They spent a total of about 30 hours at my house over a 6 WEEK period and upcharged me for additional work over 40 hours and tons of extra materials. I have a pit in my stomach forever now at how stupid I was to hire these people. I wouldn't recommend them to anyone, even my worst enemy. read more

This is one of those contractors you have to watch closely and have an airtight detailed contract if you want to use them. We have contracted with Westhill twice, once a few years ago and the project went well and the workmanship was excellent. Last year we had another small project done and it was a nightmare. A 2 day project spanned 4 months. The workman was inattentive and there was always an excuse why he couldn't finish the job. The last straw was him telling us to finish the painting ourselves, as it was not included in the bid. Probably strikes you as odd as it did us. The management of the firm today is not what it was a couple years ago as they did very little to fix the situation. read more

It's been a rough project and has taken far longer then expected, while they kindly adjusted their schedule a day because the contractor up first didn't meet the deadline it turned into a case of endless I'll be there "tomorrow". We chose Westhill over a range of recommended contractors to renovate our new home in West Seattle because we felt they had the most professional, sincere approach, and reasonable estimates for what appeared to be excellent quality work. And we weren't disappointed. Recognizing that all renovation projects are stressful and always more expensive than you initially think they're going to be, Westhill did a very good job keeping us informed about extra costs for the things we were asking for. And and work quality was excellent. The team showed up on time, worked efficiently and were very thorough, they looked for economical approaches to complete the job without compromising the quality we were looking for, and were always flexible and respectful working with us. I used West hill for a water damage issue. They came out quite fast. That was the last fast thing. They were difficult at best with communicating. I placed multiple phone calls to get any answers or follow time line. They then hired some subcontractors to do sheet rock and paint. Oh my they were out 4 times and it still was not ok. I do not consider myself to be hard to please but the joints were awful as well as the texture and paint. When they finally came to look at the job there was no admission of the poor job, along with an attitude! I would most defiantly NOT use them or recommend them . read more

I'm one of those with very high expectations. I don't base my decisions off of advertising - I base it off of 'recommendations from those I respect and admire.' We had some significant things we wanted to do with our home in '13 - including a new driveway, pathways to the house, a deck and hot tub. And I needed someone I could rely on - and someone that could put up with my very high expectations. I asked the question on Facebook and got a ton of feedback. And then I looked closely at who responded and who I thought I related most with in the 'high expectations, no foolin' around category.' They suggested Westhill. I followed up - and simply: IT WAS ONE OF THE BEST DECISIONS AS A HOMEOWNER I'VE EVER MADE. Having one throat to choke was exactly what I needed. These guys/gals were AWESOME! From the moment we started work together - they knew my expectations, and I knew who to talk to throughout the process. Not to mention the high quality of product and service I wanted delivered. THEY WENT OUT OF THEIR WAY to make the experience AWESOME. Our home is our refuge, our private little cabin in the city, a place we love - and so this was a VERY important decision. We now look to Westhill as our 'partner.' They are part of our 'family.' I'm an incredibly busy business owner - and to know that the folks at Westhill are now our partner is such a relief.
