Absolutely the best place to take your dog for care!! Dardenne Prairie has the best staff!!! Highly recommend Keera for training!!!! I have a Cane Corso "Kramer", and he has been there since he has been 4 months old and WE have been treated with such great love and care. Kramer has a trainer there he works with Keera, and she IS THE BEST!!! I highly recommend seeing her for any dog training that is needed. She is amazing!!! They really love our pets at Westinn Kennels. They have so many services and trainings available and a really fun play day for the dogs.

We use Westinn often for our dogs when we go out of town. I like that they have special kennels for dogs who are aggressive, as one of my rescue dogs is. They don't charge extra to give medications, and the dogs are always happy to see us when we pick them up. The staff are very caring people and we trust them with our pets. The young gal who is the manager (usually on weekends) is awful. She's so rude. I don't know what her problem is but she always seems annoyed anytime we walk in the door. One day, a couple came in inquiring about care and boarding for their dog. She was so unfriendly, barely answered their questions and actually seemed pissed they were there. If she's as cold to the humans that walk through the door, I can't imagine how she treats the animals? By the way, Cassie is awesome. But that assistant manager or manager is the worst. read more

We started bringing our mini Australian Shepherd puppy to one on one training here back in November due to him being scared of the whole world and very reactive. We are 5 sessions in and have seen amazing improvement in his confidence. He still has a ways to go but I'm very impressed with his progress and how amazing Ashton is with him. Horrible ! The people were nice enough but both my dogs came home SO SICK. Not only did they mess their feedings up and only used ONE bag of food out of the THREE we carefully measured for our dogs in 8 days , our dogs were starving !! They also failed to tell us they developed diarrhea the last two days there . They were incredibly sick upon picking them up and now 6 days later are still sick . They didn't tell us they were sick there until I called and asked . Also a very stressful drop off. Again, the people were kind enough I guess but the dogs clearly got very ill from the kennels and not fed enough and we were not informed at all. read more

Now that I've experienced both of Westinn's locations, I can give a more accurate review. The main thing to take away from this review if you don't feel like reading it all is this: IF YOU WANT TO TRAIN YOUR DOG ONLY USING POSITIVE REINFORCEMENT, RUN AWAY FROM WESTINN KENNELS TRAINING! For this entry, I'll only talk about the experience at the Dardenne Prairie location. For my thoughts on the other location, see that review Compared to the trainers and the situation at the Wentzville location, this one is better. However, it's still far and away from using "Positive Reinforcement". Yes, they do use clickers in class, but doing such things as squirting my dog in the face with water (sometimes when she didn't even do anything) and teaching the students to step on a leash to force their dogs to stay in a down position sort of negate that. "oh, if they thrash, that's okay" they said. Um, no. It's not if you claim to be R+. I saw a woman before class (not a trainer), pop her dog in the face while practicing the "leave it cue". Not the trainer's fault, but it just sheds light on the attitude of the class. The trainers here are a little more friendly, although they're still a bit rough with the dogs in some situations. They encourage things like "POPPING" on the leash to correct behavior, squirting water in the face and stepping on the leash to force behaviors. I feel that Westinn's website is false advertising. They say they use R+ but really don't. They use whatever is fastest and easiest, not what is best for the dogs. Of course, they tell you during multiple classes about all the other sessions you can buy and subject your dog to. It's painfully obvious that they are monetarily motivated and not as much worried about the individual dog's well being, although they are better than the Wentzville location. As for the kennel itself, I can't say although I know they have dogs there, but you never see or hear any of them. Ever, which makes me highly suspicious after reading other reviews. You see the outdoor play areas and dog kennels but never a dog using them. The owner lives around this location and I've seen her there a few times and she's super unfriendly. The only time I saw her even speak to a student, it was about what expensive dog food to buy and how the dog needs to "get over" it's feeding issues. She also told me on the phone in a prior conversation that some dogs can't be trained with all positive reinforcement. Again, that's another red flag that should have sent me running. I didn't know any better back then when I started. I have talked to a REAL positive reinforcement trainer that is a little taken aback by some of the things they did in the Westinn training classes. Please, if you want to build a better relationship with your dog through POSITIVE training methods, RUN from Westinn Kennels. It might cost a little more, but there are real R+ trainers in the same area, not far from Westinn. Check St Charles and O'Fallon. You and your dog will be glad you did. My dog learned nothing from this place. She only knows what I already taught her BEFORE coming to Westinn. It's a shame too, as the facilities themselves are nice. read more

The first problem was this summer when we boarded our two dogs for about 10 days and had grooming scheduled the day after we dropped them off. I called when we were to arrive a day early from our vacation ( 9 days after the scheduled grooming appointment) and they hadn't groomed the dogs still. I wasn't very happy and told them this was unacceptable, so they did a rush job and our standard poodle had clipper burn so bad we had to go to the vet for infection. They did agree to reimburse me for the vet bill so I decided let's give them another chance. We started using Madge and she does a great job, however it takes about 6 weeks to get an appointment. I made an appointment on 25Nov for 09Jan , we showed up on the 9th and checked in, waited about 15 minutes while they took other clients dogs back that checked in after us, I finally asked if they could take my dogs back because I was late for another appointment, a few minutes later I was informed there was a scheduling error and they couldn't groom our dogs, no other appointment was offered, I was very upset and voiced my opinion of the service to them and left. I emailed the company and a manager named Joshua called and said he would look into this and get us another appointment, I told him I wasn't very nice to his staff and he said he understood. He has never called me back. I would recommend the groomer Madge if you can get in to see her, but I never plan on going back because of the way they manage the business. read more

They don't take Akita's or any type of "aggressive breeds" at both locations, I called to verify for each, even though their website clearly says " WestInn Kennels believes all types of pets deserve a chance to run and play and enjoy time away from home." So that's a lie right there. Our dog has been in another daycare since a puppy and we recently moved to Wentzville and tried to call this place. They didn't even give him a chance or let him do a placement test. What a shame when your website is deceiving and you're clearly going against certain breeds. So where was our dogs chance? Really a shame to be shaming certain breeds when everyone knows it's how you train your dog, not the breed! Shame on you guys.. read more

Just picked up my 4 month old terrier from daycare. I was called and told she had some minor "scratches " from another dog. She had 3 puncture wounds on the neck and two on the throat. I don't trust anyone with my babies. But you guys.... they wag their tails they go willingly...they are happy to see me when I come back and they have happy wiggle butts. Your options are awesome and I can spoil them but if it's a tight week they are just as loved. Staff is amazing and I can go on for days about how wonderful y'all are. We have been taking our Maltipoo to Westinn in Weldon Springs for many years. When we pick her up she is never ready to go home. She gives us a quick sniff and runs back to the staff members!! We have always gotten great care for our little girl. read more

We have had to take our dog to the vet 5 times in the last 1.5 years after his stay at this kennel. Our dog was bitten in the mouth during his stay and we have had lots of issues since, as he has a foreign object in his wound. This kennel denied that the dog was bitten during his stay and instead suggested that he is a jumper, and his mouth was impaled by a fence, yet our dog has never once in his 3 years attempted to jump a fence, and 4 vets have agreed that he was bitten. The manager is absolutely in denial that her staff neglects to watch the dogs during play time and never attempted to call us to let us know our dog was injured and did not seek a vets help. Customer service is horrible, the dogs are neglected and I would never recommend this kennel to anyone. When we called to make a complaint manager never called back after we left several messages. read more

Just picked up my fur babies from their first kennel stay at Westinn B & B in Dardenne Prairie. Full disclosure, someone close to me works there but was not there during my dogs stay. The staff is sweet, knowledgeable, and well trained! My dogs both did great, and as one of them is 15 years old, I was extra nervous for her. She was relaxed and happy when we picked her up. If you love your dog, DO NOT BRING HER HERE!! We brought our dog to Westinn for 5 days of boarding and training. We explained that she MUST have her own food and that any other food will make her sick. This is a very simple request since the food is just a dry grain-free kibble. They NEVER fed her the food that we left and returned the exact amount of food that we left for them to give to her. We called every day and was told that she was doing great. Obviously a huge lie, since we brought home a very sick, dehydrated and malnourished dog after 5 days of being at Westinn. I cannot believe that anyone would torture a dog this way! Ella has constant diarrhea and is under her vet's care. We are now 3 days into what we can ony hope will be a recovery from being so poorly neglected and I would even say abused. Why on earth anyone who claims to love dogs would willfully subject an innocent creature to this misery is beyond my comprehention. As a side note that is not even on the same level of horror as the boarding, the training was terrible. We were told that she couldn't be trained with a training collar because she had been abused with one at some point. That is a complete LIE! Ella has NEVER even had a training collar on and certainly has never been abused (that is until her stay at Westinn). We have had her since she was 8 weeks old and has never even spent a single day apart from us. I am sick to my stomach that I subjected my sweet girl to these heartless people! read more

I was thinking about boarding my dog here and went and toured this kennel. When the lady showed us the kennel area she told us the dogs were having nap time and all of lights were off!!! This was like 1 in the afternoon and they had the dogs sitting in the pitch black. This bothered me and when I got home looked and saw another reviewer had the same experience. What are the chances that the dogs are sitting in the dark both times? I do not think it is ok to leave a bunch of dogs in the pitch black all day. The owner is highly knowledgeable in all aspects of dog training and has put together an excellent training team. I want to thank Sharon West from Westinn Kennels for the help and training she gave to me and my puppy. My dog Sparky is a rescue dog, coonhound mix who had issues with resource guarding. She is very intelligent and sweet but also could turn vicious if you got near her food or bones, growling and barking. I was afraid she would bite someone when she got in that guarding mode. She would also guard us against friendly visitors. I had a personal trainer from another company come out to help us for a few months. Sparky picked up on the basics easily but still the aggressive behavior would show up. I didn't know if I would be able to keep her. Then I heard about Sharon West and gave her a call. She met with us and gave us ample time to discuss the problems we were having. She taught me that there is a difference between obedience and behavioral training. Sparky's behavior had to be addressed. She was 7-9 months when we met Sharon. She thought she might be young enough to have better results with behavior training. I followed her instructions carefully and did exactly as she instructed. We met with Sharon a few times, discussed Sparky's progression or difficulties over the phone at times too. The transformation is amazing. Sparky is now 14 months old, I can take her food away , I can grab or move her bowl and I can put my hand in her bowl while she's eating. An added benefit is that Sparky pays much more attention to what I say and follows directions better. Also , Sharon helped me out with other misc. problems I was experiencing with a new puppy in the house. I think being a mother , like other mothers we treat our pets as we do our children and that method though we might be aspiring great mothers to our children , our pets need another type of approach in some aspects and this is where Sharon can help. I learned a lot just from watching her work with her dogs and Sparky. To me she is the dog whisperer of St Charles County. We are so lucky to have her in our community. Our pup stayed for ten days. I thought it was pretty expensive. When they brought him out he was coughing. The handler looked up at me but I figured he was just excited. When I got him home I discovered that he had caught something while there. I called the kennel to let them know. They said that sometimes that can happen. They wanted me to call them back and let them know what my vet said if I took my dog to the vet. I don't know what I expected but we will not be going back there. read more

We have been taking our dogs to the Dardenne facility for eleven years. They took great care of our boys when they were puppies. We were first time dog owners and they gave us extra tips during our beginning training classes which allowed us to be canine good citizens. Now that our dogs are older with serious back issues. They listen to us, take notes and make arrangements to accommodate their special needs. The managers are very knowledgeable but still continue their education. This review is for the Wentzville location. I took my dog there for only 3 nights and when I picked him up, he didn't seem happy to see me.........I soon discovered why. He had contracted kennel cough which had turned to bronchitis within the few days he was there. No phone call to say he was sick, no notification when he was picked up to go home that he was sick either. So we had an emergency vet visit on the weekend which cost $284.00, which did not help his condition. Then a visit with our regular vet, another $95.00. This was a really expensive 3 night stay and coming home to a sick dog. Also, everytime my dogs have stayed there, there is not one bit of dog food or treats left over to bring home, even though ample supplies of both were taken for them. I would not recommend this place to anyone. read more

I contacted the owner Sharon to set up a training evaluation for my dog. We set up a time and date for the Wentzville location. I arrived 10 minutes early and told the front desk I was there for an evaluation. They called the owner who I was supposed to meet with and she told them she could not make it as she was at their other location. The front desk said I could drive to Weldon Spring location if I wanted and acted like it was no big deal that she didn't show up. I took off work to come for the evaluation and did not have time to drive out there. I then called the owner herself who acted like she could care less that she missed the appointment. It was very evident that she didn't want my business or care that she was completely unprofessional about missing our appointment. A simple apology and I would have gladly rescheduled, but I'm sure there are others out there who need my business. read more

I have to tell of my very positive experiences. I have taken two dogs to the Wentzville location several times for boarding. Prior to the first time, I decided to check out the place during an impromptu visit. Crystal, I believe is the assistant manager, took me on a tour without hesitation. She showed me all around and the facilities were very nice and clean. Dogs in the kennel were barking, didn't seem to bother the staff. They appeared very organized. Each time I leave my dogs I feel confident that they are being well cared for. One of my dogs has an issue with recurrent cysts on the tops of her paws that break open at times. During one stay they called me and said it looked like her paw was inflamed and they even went to the vet's office and picked up a prescription for my dog and did not charge me for their time or the trip. Every time I bring my dogs in for boarding (which has been four times now), Crystal enthusiastically greets my dogs by name, get down on the ground and gives them hugs. I just cannot say enough good things about boarding at Westinn in Wentzville. read more
