If you are in the southeastern part of the United States, you are probably familiar with Cracker Barrel Old Country Store. They are a familiar sight just off of the various highways and offer both a store with various items and a restaurant. The srore is always pretty cool and the restaurant offers your usual southern style menu. I would say that breakfast is the best meal that they serve and my go-to is their chicken fried steak and eggs. This location did offer me a first. If you are familiar with Cracker Barrel Old Country Store, the rocking chairs and checker boards in front of the store are a familiar sight. This was the first time that I have ever saw people actually playing checkers at them. Two gentlemen were playing and had quite a few people around them watching the game. So, in New Albany, Mississippi, I got to see this. Overall, the service at the country store was friendly, the ambiance is rustic and today, I just shopped in the store, so I cannot comment on the food. If you are unfamiliar with Cracker Barrel Old Country Store, you should check it out. It is a part of the landscape down here in the southeastern part of out country. Service was good. Food was terrible. Had breakfast with chicken fried steak. It was a frozen patty, not homemade anymore. Biscuits were not homemade, very small and not fluffy. They aren't quality as in the past and have lost me as a customer forever. I have been a big fan for years, make room for me at Waffle House. Pro's: friendly staff, cleanliness Con's: I only wanted one thing on the menu. Fried shrimp with hush puppies. Haven't had either in a while so I was excited to see this on the menu. Ordered extra hush puppies as one of my sides. Only to find out a few minutes later they were out of them. How do you run out of hush puppies?! Then I was brought out my order that had fries instead. Food tasted good. However, service was horrible even though the restaurant was not crowded at all. Maybe a total of 10 tables with customers. Although , the table order was placed shortly after being seated. It took nearly 1 1/2 hours before our meals were delivered to our table. During this time I asked for condiments to go with our meals. 20 minutes later and several times of repeated asking and speaking with the manager our table finally received our condiments and syrup. Also, our table did not receive our complete order as some items were missing . If you go you might expect long wait times but the food is good. read more

I have never been to a Cracker Barrel I didn't like! And I have been going to them all over the middle south and south since the 70's. My favorite dish is Breakfast - biscuits, hash browns, pancakes......it's all good. Next time we'll go further instead of here. We was told 20 to 25 minutes to be seated. I t was an hour and I saw 2 other groups of 2 seated who put in their name after we did. After fi ally being seated, it took about a other 30 to 50 minutes to get our food. We actually sat and watched EVERY table there get their food and eat. So far, very disappointing with this dining experience. The food was okay. Not hot at all, if I had come out any later it would of had been cold. Pancakes were crispy on the edges and that ham was tiny and was NOT the sweet ham. The red sausage was different but good. Need less to say that we never come.in to dine here on a Sunday ever again. We have tried to have breakfast at Cracker Barrel in New Albany twice and will not be back again. The first time we waited 45min for a waitress to just come to the table to get drinks. Horrible experience, terrible food and service! They were not busy, but it was almost an hour to get our food. Chicken & Dumplings were horrible. First off, sent them back because they were not hot. Once hot they were just hlumps of hot mushy dough that tasted like salt. Chicken tenders were over cooked with a strange taste to the breading. Once again plenty of salt. Difficult to get the Servers attention. She was friendly, but appeared to have trouble figuring out what to do next. Will never return! Cracker Barrel is what it is ... except that this one is particularly nice. I've found that they fall along the scale depending on the management and the labor force, and that's top drawer here. Our waitresses Bri and Desiree couldn't have been better. The place - Just about 3 years old, it has an updated look and feel beginning at the front door. No doubt a Cracker Barrel with the old country store look, but the displays are arranged differently, check out is at the back of the store, and the dinning area has been opened up a bit. On to the food-at this tune they're promoting the New Southern Fried Chicken -- it is excellent,as good as any other you'll find at places that say theirs is the best. *** NOTE - if you're coming from the south on 22, you will miss it if you wait to see the sign! i came to eat with my friends yesterday. we got a table and our waiter only checked on us 4 times and that was to get our drink order, bring our drinks out, to get our food order and to bring us our food. as we checked out and left. it came to my attention that the waiter was not happy with our tip and was saying we tipped her $3 dollars. we tipped her $3 dollars in cash and $10 on card. but in my opinion she shouldn't have gotten anything bc she didn't work for it. as a worker you are supposed to check on your tables not set in the back. i've worked here before and i know how it goes. you are supposed to work for your tips not check on your table 3-4 times and set down in the back. so next time i will be sure not to tip her if i get her again. also i understand the manager is supposed to run the store. but me and my friends felt really uncomfortable when the manager standing in the middle of the store watching us eat. read more

Manager had to bring our orders that were ready to serve when waitress took more orders first. One entry had too much salt on chicken/fries. Sauce was not typical Carolina taste . Waited over 20 min for a table. Disheartening that several tables (in the front), needed to be cleaned and were empty. However, folks are waited to be seated. If lack of servers was the issue, that communication should have been shared. But waiting so long for a table......and waiting so long for food to arrive with so many empty tables means poor management. read more

Personally I would give it a better rating if it weren't for the fact that the place is understaffed to the point that you have to wait for your waiter or waitress or worse you get no service at all. Plus the fact that you may not get seated because there is 10 people that have been already seated. We arrived 30 minutes before closing. The manager and hostess happily greeted us and let us know the one thing they were sold out of. All of the staff was very friendly and accommodating. We have eaten at Cracker Barrel's around the country, but this was our first visit to this location. As far as the Cracker Barrel franchise is concerned, I genuinely enjoy myself in such a restaurant. My experience in the particular location falls short of exceptional service and food. Upon multiple trips to this store/restaurant, we have had several occasions of different issues; ranging from poor to rude service as well as cold/undercooked and overcooked/reheated food. Chicken tenders seemed like they were thrown in the oven from a bag from the freezer. My coke tasted like it had cleaner in it. Mac and cheese was superb. Like literally delish. We have driven all day since two hours east of Birmingham. Not one restaurant to be found close to the highway. We saw one in Tupelo, but it was so full we decided to take the time to get further west instead. Came upon this place right after Sunday rush. It's a bit different than other Cracker Barrel's as far as the decor. It seems cleaner more open and more streamlined without loosing the atmosphere. Everyone was friendly and helpful. Food was steaming hot when it came out, the salads were fresh. Our waitress, Jada, was a great waitress and she had a beautiful sweet smile. She didn't get frazzled when we asked to change the sides a bit. If we ever come through here, we will stop again. read more
