I purchased a $25 eyebrow tweezer which, when I went to use it, found it didn't grab onto my eyebrows as an eyebrow tweezer needs to do. So of course, I went back to the store 2 days later, with the original packaging and my receipt to return it. I was told that they don't do refunds on any hair products.... When I commented that this was their most expensive and theoretically best eyebrow product and that it should work, they were dismissive and refused to take it back. I was given the name of the manager who, after 3 tries I did reach and she was friendly and willing to issue a refund. I appreciate that the manager did this but it was a lot of work and I am reluctant to shop there as if there is a defective product, it's a lot of work to set it right. read more

I have to say that, if anything, this place trumps Olympia's in terms of their return policy. As long as you have a receipt, they will accept returns and exchanges without any hassle, and that speaks volumes. Olympia's will but only on very few items that they indicate at the point of sale. Every time I've come here, they always seem busy taking inventory and maintaining a very professional atmosphere, but they always stop to acknowledge and greet you, ask if you have any questions, and happily assist you with finding products specific to your needs. I've read a few reviews about their employees being rude, but I just haven't had that experience here. They may not fawn all over you, but they do let you know that they're available should you need them; and I find that to be a good thing because it allows me to breathe and browse, which I love doing in beauty supply stores. I can't comment on whether they have a phenomenal selection or anything because this really is the only place I come to other than random stops over the hill or in L.A.; and comparing Capitola to Saratoga/San Francisco and L.A. just isn't fair. But I do have to say that they have a decent variety of salon- and more organic-related hair care products here, so there's something for everyone. Plus, they have makeup, perfumes, manicure products, hair accessories, and a salon. Oh, and their store is always so clean, so major bonus. read more

The owner, Patrick, is beyond words fantabulous. He donated generously when I was going door to door for a fund raising event. I actually knew him prior, but he is just a genuinely spectacular business owner. He owns 3 locations, one on River, one on Mt. Herman in SV and this one on Clare's- my fav. Because of all my hang out surrounding shops, Trader Jose, Bed/Bath/Beyond, Zizzos.... But the cool thing here is the gals behind counter are super sweet and the Hairstylist are ALL wonderful. It's like this cozy little piece of heaven plopped down in the middle of the Bulb Ranch ( Is that what its called)? Shopping center. They carry drug store (some) and mostly high-end brand hair, skin & nail products. Oh! and Craig, previously mentioned in my (Rhapsody) review- is here now. Picture, re-attached. This isn't so much a beauty supply as it is a salon with an overgrown selection of hair products. The selection of tools is minimal and not well stocked. To make matters worse, the customer service is kinda shady. I walked in and the person behind the register just stared at me in silence. I stared back until she said hello. I returned with, "hi" but still received no indication that I was welcome to shop there - including no offer to help me find anything, even after I'd looked around for a bit, clearly unable to find what I was looking for. I ended up buying a couple items that weren't exactly what I needed, were somewhat overpriced, and could probably be found at target. read more

I have found there aren't many beauty supply stores in Santa Cruz to find great hair products (unless you go to salons themselves) and this worked great for my needs. I was able to get my shampoo, conditioner, product, and hair dye, all of which I was used to buying at my old beauty supply in LA. The pricing was also decent. read more

Their specialty seems to be hair products, which is great since I was able to snatch up exactly what I wanted (MOP), but they are lacking in the make-up/nail polish department. They have a very limited selection of OPI nail colors and I really wanted Essie or Zoya. read more

I stopped into this shop the other day when I was out browsing! I was very excited to see they carry a lot of the brands that I like to use and usually travel to Sephora for. Now I have a place locally that I can get the same items. And I love to support local businesses. I was interested in buying a new curling iron but decided to wait because the ones they had were a little pricey. I am sure they are good quality but since I am no expert at doing hair I didn't feel I needed anything of that caliber. But I will be back... maybe I need a new nail polish for this weekend :-) read more

Limited supply of everything. Not as many brands as in the past ten years, either. Their inventory has SO dwindled that's it's barely worth the trip. Totally agree with the other reviewer about customer service, too. Management is rude and condescending to their staff and to customers. Will not ever go back after my last few experiences. My daughter has reported mean-spirited customer service when she's gone in without me., "gosh, mom, they're mean to everybody!" I suggest you take your business elsewhere.
