Very disappointing experience dealing with this consignment store through Facebook Marketplace. I inquired about a used executive desk that had apparently been sitting listed for quite some time and politely asked whether there was any flexibility on pricing, which is completely normal when discussing secondhand furniture especially for a large item requiring a long-distance pickup arrangement. I referenced comparable sales I had seen and explained my reasoning respectfully. At no point was I rude or unreasonable. Instead of responding professionally, Joe became hostile and dismissive, replying: "I have better things to do! Go buy one of the cheap ones you found! Wow!" before blocking me entirely from the listing. If this is how potential customers are treated for simply attempting to negotiate on used consignment furniture (let alone on Facebook Marketplace), I would strongly caution others before doing business here. We purchased a pool table and cue rack that were both in great condition and very reasonably priced. Everyone we interacted with was very friendly and professional. The delivery and installation were amazing. They definitely knew what they were doing. A lot goes into reassembling a table and they took their time. They even installed the rack. read more

Julie, the blond that sits at the computer in the back area is the rudest, most disrespectful person I've ever encountered in retail. She dismisses you as the customer and you usually get a rude NO from her. She's so suspicious of everyone without reason. She gave me a price on an item and gave my friend that went in 30 minutes later a totally different price. The front staff follows suit to what Julie does. I feel bad for the owner, Joe Grammatico. Last Thursday, August 1st, I found a signed picture in the second room of the store and wanted to purchase it. There was no price attached. My husband took it to the front counter to ask about the price. The staff said it had just been brought to the store that day, that they didn't have time to price it yet and added that "people should not go into the back room and pull items out." As I said, the picture was in the front of the store; not in the "back room." Sue, one of the women at the front counter, said that she would research the signed photograph, price it and call me the next day to let me know. This never happened. Will we return to the store? I was very disappointed to hear about my mother's experience with the unfriendly staff member named Renee. I was looking at storing furniture here until I heard about my moms experience. My mother was lied to and told her item was going to be donated if not picked up by a certain time when my mother specifically stated a later date that it would be picked up. The consignment store in Jackson reeks of cigarette smoke. It's destroying all the furniture in there. Joe better take care of it or he's going to lose all of his customers. I love visiting this place, and have had much success purchasing some major items, including a coffee table and a dining set. What I appreciate the most is being able to afford very high quality furniture that would be too expensive for me if they were new. The staff has always been very accommodating and helpful. I recently moved to a new home and needed EVERYTHING and wanted some older yet nicer things for character. I had 50's modern chic in mind and got 80's ticky tacky at this store. Prices were set based on what previous owners HOPED to get and then tacks on their margin so prices are ridiculously high. On top of this the quality was marginal for just about everything. Everything was in the condition you'd expect something to be in that was kept in the garage for 10 years after surviving a house full of kids. The women that worked there were very rude and when I asked if there was a discount if I bought $3k+ worth of stuff and they would not even offer that. I would suggest checking Treasure Mart in Ann Arbor if you want antiquey furniture or unique stuff for the home and let these guys keep their unattractive 80's beat up furniture. read more

I shopped there yesterday. Neither the delivery people nor the saleswoman had their masks on. (They did have them around their necks.) When I saw that the owner/manager was not wearing her mask after I entered the store, I raised my eyebrows because I was surprised that she would not be following state law. She immediately started to belittle me. As I turned to walk out, she started to laugh loudly, I guess to let me know how dumb she thought I was. What a way to run a business! Went to the Jackson store this week with my friend . As I browsed around my friend had found several things she like . To the tune of over 2000$ . She was going to put 100$ on it to hold for the next morning so she could arrange a truck to grab the the large dinning table ,couch ,curio cabinet and entertainment center . As the girl that helped us put everything together was adding up the prices some women came from the back saying she wasn't putting anything on hold . Of course there were plenty of sold things marked and sitting around . She never even glanced at the tickets and what the purchases were for . The only reason my friend wanted to wait until the next day to pay in cash and secure a truck and see about the weather . What a foolish way to do business . Twice I have left quality items there, and they've been lost or grossly underpriced. Earlier in the year, I went to retrieve my complete service for 8 silverware because it didn't sell. When it couldn't be found, someone remembered that she saw it in the drawer of a hutch that just sold. They called the buyer at home and he found it inside. How on earth can you expect to sell something that is hidden in a drawer? Now I just came back from the store, again, to retrieve unsold items. 3 of them are once again missing! I came here looking for a dresser, desk/table, and a coffee table or side table. They have a wide selection of items, but the pricing is hit or miss. Some pieces are obviously high quality and are reasonably priced for what they are, but there were some other pieces that were not at all good quality and were priced almost at retail rates. Perhaps the best upscale resale shop in the area. It a treasure hunt, lots of fun & I always find something here! I'd rather find a quality used piece that has personality then to buy cheap crap from Walmart. When you go, take your time shopping, there's lots of gens tucked around the store. If you don't see it that visit, as if you can be put on the wish list or try back again in a week or two. I liked the store and the inventory. The staff was ok with me when I shopped there. So why the low score? I had an issue with something and was put in touch with a man who I think was a manager. The staff told me he'd take care of the issue and that it was no problem...ok. To be clear, I didn't demand anything. I was told to talk to this guy about it. So when I got to speak to him, I merely asked the question. I never raised my voice to him. He was immediately enraged and insulted me throughout the conversation. If I could give this business a "0" I would ... these people do NOT know how to run a business! First I was charged $125 to pick up my furniture a sofa and a coffee table. They did not sign a contract until my furniture was in their possession .... huge consignment fee (50%) and it seems they put all the onus on the customer to keep track of their dealings. My sofa sold right away but had to wait three months for my check ( as per their contract so i did expect this) - When I went out to pick up my check (because they charge you to mail one) I asked about my coffee table. They couldn't find it and told me to walk through the store (think "horder's maze here) to see if i could find it. It was not in the store - meanwhile Kim (the only helpful person I encountered during this business transaction) was on the telephone with their Jackson store and it had apparently been transferred to them (who keeps the records on this business???) and was sold and that i should call back in December to remind her to cut a check. I did this and in enters Chris, i believe the owner of this establishment. She gave me a song and dance about how their system was not capable of cutting a check for less than $25 (this after Kim offered me $50 when they couldn't find my table). I asked Chris how their lack of efficiency of their "system" was MY problem. Chris could not tell me how much my table sold for, only inferring I would receive less than $25. She asked me to email her at the beginning of January (because she was "busy" with the holidays) to remind her to send me a check. I did and never received a response OR check. Still waiting..and waiting. These people should NOT run a business. Totally chaotic and confusing without offering any remedy of relief. Total mismanagement on the owners part. As i stated before only my dealings with Kim were sane! So, they sold my coffee table and pocketed the profits. Gross mismanagement or theft? I can't begin to tell you how disappointed I am with the Consignment Emporium. They are impossible to get in touch with by phone. They have a very detailed contract but once you sign it....they're responsibility to the client is ended. I have no clue as to when my large pieces were put on the floor or even if they WERE put on the floor. I had a good friend check it out and she didn't see any of my furniture displayed. They made the decision that my sofa was not sellable and have no clue how they came to that conclusion. When Julie came to my home, she thought everything was great...sofa included! If I knew that they wouldn't display it....I would never have given it to them. I'm sure someone in the Ann Arbor or neighboring areas would have thoroughly enjoyed it....even Habitat for Humanity would have benefited from it. So consignee..........beware. I don't trust these people at all!! If you do leave anything with them....make sure you follow up as to when it will go on display and make sure you see it on display. They get NO stars from me. I've purchased a few items from this place- a mid-century stereo-console converted buffet, a lamp, a few frames, a ceramic bowl and a terra cotta planter; overall they have a good selection of household items that are more modern than Treasure-mart. The discounts are not great, and many items after 4-5 months will not be further discounted. Over the past year, I find it hard to strike a deal for items that are clearly out of date (have been in store for over 1-2 years). They would rather send something back to the owner than get rid of the inventory. One of the younger girl with dark hair who worked there was very rude one day when I asked for help. She simply ignored me 2-3 times; The middle aged lady is more even tempered and helpful. I had an item shipped from the Jackson store to Ann Arbor; there was delivery mess up and delay for a few days but eventually it came in one piece. Mostly the items are not cheap and many are marked at current retail price. (a set of used pottery barn basket for $100????!!!!) Every once a while you may be able to score something that an owner may desperately try to get rid of. I was able to find a queen sleigh bed frame for a friend for about $250 this past week for instance. In short, hit-or-miss. read more

At best, extremely disorganized and worst, possibly dishonest. Gave them 4 items to sell. Approx 2 months later I go to the store to get update. Saw only one of my 4 items on the floor. It was by far the most valuable item of my 4 items. It had no price tag on it. I asked the manager the price and she told me to make an offer. I then informed her I owned it. I then asked her to please put a price tag on it (where the price drops each month, for 3 months) like all the other items in the store. Then I asked where my other items were. She got on their computer and first said she couldn't find them. Then she said they were sold and I would get a check soon. Stopped by 2 weeks later and asked about my items again with another employee because I was suspicious. Turns out the other 3 items were sitting in the storage room. They hadn't even made it out to the floor! So beware. No one knows what's going on or at least claim they don't know. They like say that they are always overwhelmed with all of the inventory coming in so we shouldn't judge. So if you're willing to risk using them to sell your stuff, be sure you know when they are putting your stuff out on the floor. Then verify they did actually and visit often to make sure your stuff doesn't disappear without documentation. And pick up your stuff before 3 months go by because they then take full ownership and you get no compensation if your stuff sells (after 3months). Finally, the manager can be prickly with customers as can one of the 2 regular employees. Wish they had their act together because I need a good place to consign all my stuff read more

I would give this company a negative rating if I could. They charged me to pick up chairs that I wanted to sell. These were chairs my father had given me and I would not have sold them unless I needed to. They then LOST the chairs but assured me, for over a year, that they would take care of it. The old owner's staff assured me and the new owner's staff assured me. They both promised to get to the bottom of this and remedy it. To this day they have not gotten back to me. I filed a complaint with the BBB and the new owner dealt with that by simply not responding. I will file in small claims court next. DON'T TRUST THEM WITH YOUR FURNITURE. I met Cindy, the owner/manager of Westside Furniture Consignment Emporium this morning for an interview. After making my introduction, she rambled on with a flight of ideas with rapid speech with frequent shifts in topic and it was difficult at first to comprehend. During the interview which she seemed not prepared for at our scheduled time, she displayed prejudiced behavior by being homophobic, berating and sarcastic of my size and displayed ableism after I indicated I cannot lift more than 20Ibs. While she did all the talking, she looked me up and down and then gazed at my portly stomach and proceeded to cackle. Then she was demeaning to her delivery drivers in front of me. The store should probably also be reported to PETA for selling large animal trophies and fur. Additionally, the store website is full of malware and viruses, indicative of unprofessional business practices. If you appreciate equality of inclusive values, then avert your patronage. It was highly inappropriate of Cindy to belittle and humiliate me. Today, I walked out of my interview and she lost a loyal customer. read more

I have been a customer at the Jackson Westside store for a few years now. I find the staff extremely helpful, friendly, and knowledgeable! Also, they have sold many of my own items at a top notch price, even with inclusion of their own profit take!! The items I have purchased there were sold to me at a reasonable price and were of HIGH quality!! Of course, that is the only kind of item they will take for consignment. I Love this store! The salespeople are very helpful and friendly! I bought a great crystal decanter for a shower present and the saleswoman hunted down a matching crystal wine/champagne cooler for the wedding present. Of course, appropriate wines were also included ;-) I was thrilled, with the prices, but more importantly, the bride was ecstatic! I went back later and found a beautiful painting for myself. As with anything, if you do your homework you can find great deals! There's a lot of stuff in there so it's easy to miss the gems. In 2017, we used Westside Consignment in Ann Arbor to consign our 5-piece dining room set. At first, they were enthusiastic about it, saying it was perfect for them to re-sell. About six weeks later, we got a call saying to lower the price so it could sell faster, which we gladly did. One week later, we got a call from the owner and she said that our table needed to be donated because it was a piece of junk. I was spoken to very rudely. I was told to come pick it up almost immediately. I asked why they agreed to consign it if they thought it was a piece of junk. I was told exactly, " Well, the people we send out to evaluate items for consignment don't always have the best judgement." (Uh, really? Whose fault is that?) I could not believe my ears, this lack of professionalism, and the fact that they threw their own employees under the bus. I own a business (not retail, however) and when a company screws up because they sent out employees who make an incorrect judgement....as a business you eat it and make due with it. They are not professional and they "pass the buck" to those they consign with and treat them poorly. Please take your business elsewhere. read more
